  • Would you make use of "Google 20%" time if your employer encouraged and funded it?

    - by ChrisB
We know about Google's 20% projects, whereby a developer can spend up to 20% of their time on a personal project which interests them. If your employer let you spend 20% of your time on a project that wasn't part of your day-to-day work, would you make use of it? I can think of a couple of reasons why not: It would make your normal work take 20% longer (extended deadline) You might want to keep your personal idea "personal."

Google's latest output, Social Search, allows users to search for information via their personal connections on Twitter and other networking sites. • What is the best IDE to develop Android apps in?

    - by Jamey McElveen
I am about to start developing an android app and need to get an IDE. Eclipse and the android eclipse plugin appears to be the natural choice. However I am familiar with intelliJ and re-sharper so I would prefer use intelliJ. Has anyone used http://code.google.com/p/idea-android/"http://code.google.com/p/idea-android/? Is this any good? Should I just bite the bullet and learn Eclipse?

  • CA SiteMinder Configuration for Ubuntu

    - by Matt Franklin
I receive the following error when attempting to start apache through the init.d script: *apache2: Syntax error on line 186 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 4 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/auth_sm.conf: Cannot load /apps/netegrity/webagent/bin/libmod_sm22.so into server: libsmerrlog.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory* SiteMinder does not officially support Ubuntu, so I am having trouble finding any configuration documentation to help me troubleshoot this issue. I successfully installed the SiteMinder binaries and registered the trusted host with the server, but I am having trouble getting the apache mod to load correctly. • How do I rate limit google's crawl of my class C IP block?

    - by Zak
I have several sites in a class C network that all get crawled by google on a pretty regular basis. Normally this is fine. However, when google starts crawling all the sites at the same time, the small set of servers that back this IP block can take a pretty big hit on load. With google webmaster tools, you can rate limit the googlebot on a given domain, but I haven't found a way to limit the bot across an IP network yet. Anyone have experience with this? How did you fix it?

  • Do Apple and Google ask for a share if custom payment is done in a free app?

    - by user1590354
I have a multiplatform game (web/iOS/Android) in the making. In the free version the core game is still fully playable but people who choose to pay will get more social features (and no ads, of course). I was thinking that rather than having a free and a paid version for all the platforms I may release the apps just for free and if the users want more, they have to register and pay a one-time fee (through a payment gateway or PayPal). The extra content would then be available in all the clients they have access to. Theoretically, this means a better value for the players and less maintenance and headache for me (obviously I have to handle all the payment troubles myself). Does it fit into the business model of Apple/Google? Or will they still claim their share of the registration fee?
