  • Strange WPF Behaviour With WCF Async calls

    I have a WPF application calling WCF via Async calls. The application has four tabs in which each are loaded from seperate async calls, each tab has a busy indicator. The problem: When running within Visual Studio I can click a refresh button on each tab and each tab's busy indicator starts and the data is retrieved from the WCF service. As each tab's data comes back it is refreshed. When I deploy the application via one click the application's UI hangs after only two tabs start refreshing. So in this case I press refresh on tab one, then on tab two and the application hangs until one of the two tabs data comes back. I thought at first that it was something to do with the WCF service throtteling and that was not the case as both the Visual Studio and the One Click deployments of the application point to the same service. Anyone have any ideas on where to look? I cannot reproduce the hang issue within Visual Studio?

  • Eager loading in EF1.0

    I have a many-to-many relationship: Application - Applications_Servers - Server This is set up in my Entity Data Model and all is well. My problem is that I'd like to eager-load the whole graph of Applications so that I have an IEnumerable<Applications>, each Application member populated with the Servers collection associated by the many-to-many relationship. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but according to my research there must be a navigation property between Application and Server. This is not the case for me because my Applications_Servers join table has more in it than just the two keys. Therefore, there is no navigation property directly between Application and Server, and this doesn't work: var apps = (from a in context.Application.Include("Server") select a).ToList(); I get an error saying there is no navigation property on Application called "Server", and that's correct, there is none. How do I write the query to eager-load my Applications with their Servers in this case?

  • A peculiar problem

    I have an application on a pen drive, which executes some flash files on the same USB flash drive. when i run the application with in the drive, the application just keeps running in the back ground without running the flash files. When i copy the application on desktop, it runs the flash files in the USB. Also i programmed the app to write log file, when i run the application with in USB, the app is running but the log file is not getting written, when i remove the pen drive, the file gets written. What might be the problem, I am using VC++ , VS 2008 to build the application.

    I have a Dell Studio 540, 64 bit OS Windows Home Premium. My CPU is supports Intel's virtualization technology, but I don't know how to enabled it on my machine. I saw that you can do it via the bios, but I didn't see this option when going through my BIOS. Is there another way to enabled this feature? Please let me know.     Hello, I am saving the image at this location :- private static String photoGalleryPath = "/Common/PhotoGallery/"; In PhotoGallery. I create userid wise folders and save images. Everything works fine. But when i clean and build my project. The whole folder of PhotoGallery gets deleted. This looks very funny to me :). Why does it delete my whole folder everytime? And what more should i do to tell the extra smart Glassfish to not to delete my folders?

  • Haskell function composition (.) and function application ($) idioms: correct use.

    I have been reading Real World Haskell and I am nearing the end but a matter of style has been niggling at me to do with the (.) and ($) operators. When you write a function that is a composition of other functions you write it like: f = g . h But when you apply something to the end of those functions I write it like this: k = a $ b $ c $ value But the book would write it like this: k = a . b . c $ value Now to me they look functionally equivalent, they do the exact same thing in my eyes. However, the more I look, the more I see people writing their functions in the manner that the book does: compose with (.) first and then only at the end use ($) to append a value to evaluate the lot (nobody does it with many dollar compositions). Is there a reason for using the books way that is much better than using all ($) symbols? Or is there some best practice here that I am not getting? Or is it superfluous and I shouldn't be worrying about it at all? Thanks.

  • Unexpected cross threading issue

    I'm trying to do something very simple in principal, but I keep getting a cross-threading exception which has me stumped because I'm not setting out to use multiple threads. I have a Windows Forms application. It launches another Windows Forms application (using the System.Diagnostics.Process class) , and catches the Exited event when that application is closed. My application event handler then tries to copy text from the clipboard to a control on the current displayed form. At this point a Cross-threading exception is thrown. I assume that the problem is that the event from the closing application is in another thread (I'm outside my comfort zone here, so bear with me), so the question boils down to "How do I prevent this exception?" I'm somewhat constrained into having to copy from the clipboard, but I could launch the other application a different way if that would solve the problem.

For example: there are tabs for mail, calendar, contacts etc. When I right click on these tabs brings up no menu.   • If my application doesn't use a lot of memory, can I ignore viewDidUnload:?

    My iPhone app generally uses under 5MB of living memory and even in the most extreme conditions stays under 8MB. The iPhone 2G has 128MB of RAM and from what I've read an app should only expect to have 20-30MB to use. Given that I never expect to get anywhere near the memory limit, do I need to care about memory warnings and setting objects to nil in viewDidUnload:? The only way I see my app getting memory warnings is if something else on the phone is screwing with the memory, in which case the entire phone would be acting silly. I built my app without ever using viewDidUnload:, so there's more than a hundred classes that I'd need to inspect and add code to if I did need to implement it.

    Scenario I want to parse a large CSV file and inserts data into the database, csv file has approximately 100K rows of data. Currently I am using fgetcsv to parse through the file row by row and insert data into Database and so right now I am hitting database for each line of data present in csv file so currently database hit count is 100K which is not good from performance point of view.     hi my problem is how to create footer image in this video screen while playing.... how to create this format. now i am give my description: • 1) Header image, a stretched background image. The location of this external image comes from the application xml; • 2) Footer image, a stretched background image. The location of this external image comes from the application xml; 2.a) the copyright, disclaimer and buy block, this block contains links to popup windows that contain a copyright and or disclaimer. And an option to buy the application for the advertisement less version. The content of this block is fed trough the application XML feed. The color of the text is fed by the application xml plus the popup links and texts itself; • 3) Carousel image, a stretched background image. The location of this external image comes from the application xml; 3.a) the carousel contains objects that can flow from right to left, possibly trough a animation (a soft break of the slide). The first object is centered in the middle of the carousel. This is the first element in the video feed. All the subsequent video object are added to the right of the centered object; 4) Total Video object, this object links to window two with the corresponding video of this object. This object is visually build out of the following sub parts:o 4.a) Thumb object (possible playing video thumb); 4.b) Reflection of the Thumb; 4.c) Textual Explanation of Thumb. 1) Video stream, this is the video stream coming from a external server streamed to the television (maybe up scaled) as 720p stream; 2) Advertisement, the type of advertisement shown overlaid on the video is based on previous settings in the video feed. This could mean that Admob, Adsense or a third party image plus URL could be shown. When the advertisement is selected trough navigation (it will highlight in a different color as a border around the advertisement. The color an thickness can be managed trough the application xml), when clicked a browser will open with the associated site (the application will be pushed to the background process, when the user is finished it will return to the app); 3) A back button, an image and navigational element. The location of the image comes from the application xml. The button is only shown when a cursor is moved (a button is pressed on the remote) it will highlight when selected and when pressed will forward the screen to the main window. When the main window is opened the video will be removed from cache and memory and cannot be start from the point it was exited. please give me your idea....

  • Attach 1 or more (non image) files to rails application, with having to install an image-processing

    Hi all, I'm currently learning rails by creating a simple project management app. I've gotten to the point where I would like to be allow a user upload multiple files - pdfs, docs, xls etc. The user only needs to be able to attach one file at a time, but the possibilty to have multiple documents associated with a project is a must. I've spent quite a lot of time researching my options, and it appears the two main plugins are attachment_fu and paperclip. From what I've read though, these appear to concentrate specifically on the upload and subsequent resizing of images, something I couldn't care less about. Is there a simpler way to achieve what I'm trying? Thank you all in advance.
