  • emacs and putty on windows 7

    My workstation was recently updated to Windows 7. I've downloaded putty and have configured it to the same settings I had under Vista. Whenever I ssh to a vm running Centos 5.4 and try to run emacs on a file, I'm getting an error about a connection to an X server: [ecto1 ~]$ emacs foo.bar Connection lost to X server `localhost:10.0' I never received this error message when I had Vista. I can get around it by aliasing emacs to 'emacs -nw', but I don't feel that I should have to do this. My co-worker has the same hardware that had the same upgrade and his sessions do not seem to be doing this. Any advice? I can't find anything on google and don't know where else to start.   • Why "Finalize method should not reference any other objects" ?

    I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Does anyone know the right answer ? thanks, mishal

  • IPHONE DEVELOPMENT PROFILE EXPIRED - I TRIED EVERYTHING AND YES, I READ THE DOCS

    I really combed this site and others. I read and re-read the related links here and the Apple docs. I'm sorry, but either I am obviously missing something right under my nose, or this Apple profile/certificate stuff is a bit convoluted. Here it is: I have a product in the App Store. I have updated it several times and users like it. My development profile recently expired just when I was improving the app for its next release. I can run the app in the simulator. I can compile and put the distribution build on my iPhone just fine. I went to the Apple portal and renewed the development profile. I downloaded it and installed it in Xcode. I see it in the Organize window. I see it on my iPhone. I CANNOT put the debug build on my iPhone to debug or run with Instruments. The message is that either there is not a valid signed profile or it is untrusted. I subsequently tried to download and install the certificate to my Mac's keychain. Still no success. I checked the code signing section of Project settings and also for the target and the root. All appears to indicate that it is using the expected development profile for debug. Yes, I had deleted the old profile from my iPhone, from the Organizer. I cleaned the Xcode cache and all targets. I have done all of this several times and in varying sequences to try to cover every possibility. I am ready to do anything to be able to debug with Instruments in order to check for leaks or high memory usage. Even though the distribution compile runs fine on my iPhone and plays well with other running processes, I will not release anything without a leaks/memory test. Any ideas will be appreciated. If I missed something obvious, please forgive me - it was not due to just posting a question without searching for similar postings. Thanks!

  • How do I SCP/FTP to a Coraid SR2421

    I need to save data to a Coraid SR2421. I am no expert and I'm trying to understand how this costy piece of hardware works. All I have is a Ethernet cable connecting my laptop and the coraid to a switch and the coraid's console with cursor blinking. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. edit and further explanation: I've tried using software on the coraid website but It's not working. So I've contacted the support and they sent me a file to upload on the coraid. It looks like if I upgrade coraid's firmware then I'll be able to use the coraid software on the windows side. That's why I'd need SCP/FTP or any kind of solution to copy a file in the partition that can be read from coraid console command line so I can launch the update command as requested. I hope I was a bit clearer now.

I'm trying to build a dynamic query in which I'd like to let the user remove a filter, without the backend having to reconstruct the criteria from scratch. Thank you

    I am considering getting an HTC phone running Android from Verizon Wireless when I next upgrade my phone. I also have an online account with a music vendor, where I have rights to listen to my collection, but not download the MP3s. Further, I have an unlimited data plan and Wi-Fi, so I have full access to bandwidth volume without any concerns. I am especially interested in mounting my phone in a car kit, and streaming my online music to my car's sound system while driving. If you are experienced in this scenario, or have tried this scenario - Is is reasonable to expect my HTC Android phone to provide me with streaming music via my cell data plan anywhere I get cell service?

    Questions needing answers : Does the finalizer of the client side ServicedComponent call ServicedComponent.DisposeObject or Dispose? How should destruction (release of memory) occur in the com server in realtion to its usage in the client? Basically - we are reaching a 2 gig limit on process size (memory) of the COM server as memory is not being released - is the solution to call explicitly call Dispose or use the using statement in the client?

  • Windows 7: Server disappearing from Network window

    I am running a small (three computer) network on a Windows Server 2003 domain. All of the computers were just upgraded to Windows 7. Since the upgrade, the icon for the domain server periodically disappears from the Network window on all three computers. It doesn't happen at the same time on all computers--the icon typically disappears from one machine, but not the others. And it's not always the same computer. The network connection is still there--I can type \\myserver and get to the network shares. It's simply the icon that's disappearing. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for a fix?   • Updating DetailViewController from RootController

    I'm trying to create an iPad application with a similar user interface to Apple's Mail application, i.e: RootView controller (table view) on the left hand side of the split view for navigation with a multiple view hierarchy. When a table cell is selected a new table view is pushed on the left hand side The new view on the left side can update the detail view. I can accomplish both tasks BUT NOT TOGETHER. I mean I can make a multi-level table view in the RootController.(HERE you can find the working source code). Or I can make a single-level table view in the RootController which can update the detailViewController (here there is the source code:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D6L0463G). Can anyone tell me how to make a multi-level table in the RootController which can update a detailViewController?   • Broken web interface in WRT54G router

    I flashed my WRT54G (v3) from a custom firmware to the lastest Linksys one (v4.21.1) Now the internet/LAN works fine, but the web interface (http://192.168.1.1/) shows broken pages. I tried to manually navigating to the firmware upgrade page (by entering its URL), but it is broken too and not working. I tried a 30/30/30 reset twice, but the broken web interface still shows up. I tried to flash using the tftp2.exe application, which told me that the router didn't respond to the request. I tried to flash using the Windows commandline TFTP protocol, but I don't know how to supply a password on this prococol. (there is a factory default password ("admin") which I can't remove since the web interface is broken)

  • memory leak on mdi with blank child form

    Hi, I've created a blank application with a mdi parent form opening a blank child form from the menu. When the parent form of the child form is set to the mdi - it appears the system does not release memory - thus a leak. When the parent form is not set, the child form is removed. Does anyone know why this apparent memory leak can be resolved? I've been using the ants memory profiler. Bob.

  • MySql calculate number of connections needed

    I am trying to figure my needs regarding web service hosting. After trying Azure I have realized that the default MySql they provide (through a third party) limits the account to 4 connections. You can then upgrade the account to 15, 30 or 40 connections (which is quite expensive). Their 15 connections plan is descirbed as: "Excellent choice for light test and staging apps that need a reliable MySQL database". I have 2 questions: if my application is a web service which needs to preform ~120k Queries a day (Normal/BELL distribution) and each query is ~150ms(duration)/~400ms(fetch), how many connection do I need? If instead of using cloud computing, I will choose a VPS, how many connections will I be able to handle on a 1GB 2 cores VPS? Thank you!

  • Should I limit end-user gigabit ports to avoid saturating uplink/trunk connections?

    We have a campus with 16 buildings and older 850nm 1Gbps fiber links between the buildings, that all come to a core switch for our servers that also uses 1Gbps ports. We're finally starting to replace our aging 10/100 end-user switches, and much of what we're looking at are 1 Gbps units. My question is, since the trunk/uplink lines are still 1Gbps, if I were to install 1 Gbps switches for end users, should I limit the ports to 100Mbps until I can also upgrade the trunks to avoid allowing a bad-behaving host to saturate a trunk line (since we're a college, we have plenty of mis-behaving hosts) and thereby create a DoS situation for a building, or will TCP congestion control typically take care of that for me? What if we have a lot of UDP traffic (games, video chats, even a small amount of bittorrent)?

  • PC with 2 RAMs of different frequencies (1GB 533MHz + 2GB 667MHz) showing only 2GB RAM

    I have 6 years old PC with 1.25GB (1GB + 256MB) of DDR2 533MHz RAM. As computer has become very slow and memory usage reaching its limits most of the times, i decided to upgrade RAM. But unfortunately, im not finding retailers selling DDR2 533Mhz RAM near my area. Since I was not sure mixing up RAMs of different frequencies, i searched in web. Most results said they can be mixed but computer would run at lower frequency of the 2 RAMs. So I bought 2GB DDR2 667Mhz RAM expecting my pc to have 3GB RAM running at 533 MHz. But computer properties page shows only 2GB RAM. BIOS settings too show the slot with 2GB 667MHz as ACTIVE and other slot with 1GB 533MHz as "NOT INSTALLED". When I removed 2GB RAM, they computer shows only 1GB RAM. So for some reason, 1GB RAM is not getting detected/used. What is the problem here? thanks in advance.

Now, the Package manager isn't showing any update of the following package and some others too : SGML::Parser::OpenSP version 0.991 required--this is only version 0.99 at C:/www/validator/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 61. Q : How can I download the latest package for OpenSP ? Q : Would It be just a matter of click and install the package? If someone can provide a step by step that would be very helpful, I am not fluent with building perl packages. Thanks and Regards

    I am being told that some limits on some HP servers can be crossed. Do any of you have any experience with that? A ML150/G6 is limited to 48GB RAM but I have been talking to a German company that guaranties me that this server will be able to be upgraded to 384GB RAM (using 32GB memory modules and 2 CPUs) http://www.compuram.de/en/memory,HP+%28-Compaq%29,Server,Proliant,ML150+G6.htm Can this really be true? The server that I have is using E5504 CPUs but will I be able to upgrade to any CPU that is using a LGA1366 socket?   • Motherboard RAM question.

    Firstly I'm new at this. Not a very computer-ish person. So I very much apologize if this is not the right place, but here it goes.. My Motherboard is an Asus P5LD2-SE. I'm running in Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit(x86) OS, 1GB RAM (2x512 MB). I'm planning to upgrade my OS to 64-bit and because I know my Motherboard is a dual-channel, I bought a dual-channel 2 GB RAM (2 pcs). My question is; am I still able use my old RAM ones, since it is 4 slots..? Which in the end will show 5GB. Is it possible? Thank you for your time. =)
