• JTable's and DefaultTableModel's row indexes lose their synchronization after I sort JTable

The code I wrote above works fine except when: I use the sort of the GUI (click on the field name I want to sort on the table) The table is properly sorted but after that when I select a row, it gets the value of the row that was there before the sort. This means that after sorting (using the JTable's GUI) the 'myModel' and 'resultsTable' objects have different row indexes. How do I synchronize those two?

• Optimize SQL databases by adding index columns

  This might be implementation specific so the question regards how SQL databases is generally implemented. Say I have a database looking like this; Product with columns [ProductName] [Price] [Misc] [Etc] Order with columns [OrderID] [ProductName] [Quantity] [Misc] [Etc] ProductName is primary key of Product, of some string type and unique. OrderID is primary key and of some integer type, and ProductName being a foreign key. Say I change the primary key of Product to a new column of integer type ie [ProductID] Would this reduce the database size and optimize lookups joining these two tables (and likewise operations), or are these optimizations performed automatically by (most/general/main) SQL database implementations?

• C# Winforms ADO.NET - DataGridView INSERT starting with null data

  I have a C# Winforms app that is connecting to a SQL Server 2005 database. The form I am currently working on allows a user to enter a large amount of different types of data into various textboxes, comboboxes, and a DataGridView to insert into the database. It all represents one particular type of machine, and the data is spread out over about nine tables. The problem I have is that my DataGridView represents a type of data that may or may not be added to the database. Thus, when the DataGridView is created, it is empty and not databound, and so data cannot be entered. My question is, should I create the table with hard-coded field names representing the way that the data looks in the database, or is there a way to simply have the column names populate with no data so that the user can enter it if they like? I don't like the idea of hard-coding them in case there is a change in the database schema, but I'm not sure how else to deal with this problem.

  How can I improve this code? What has made this long winded is the fact that I can't use string.IsNullOrEmpty on a data row and instead I have to use a dr.IsHOUSENUMBERNull method AND the string.IsNullOrEmpty to check if it is empty. Why is this? The column in the database is sometimes empty and sometimes NULL.   I have an update panel within which a sortable grid is present. While sorting, I have to change an image which shows the sort direction. The sort is an ajax operation initiated by a linkbutton for each column. Everything works fine except the image control. I am able to toggle visible property to show and hide it but, not able to change the ImageUrl property. imagesort.ImageUrl = "~/images/asc.jpg"; imagesort.Visible = true; The above code shows the image but the image is always the imageurl given in the markup not what is set in the code. If imageurl is not specified in the markup, no image(broken image) is shown irrespective of the above code.

  Hi! I can't seem to find a way to reference the value in a column in the grid, in my case it is the StatusId. Based on the cell value in this row, for the StatusId, I need to return a true or false to the method ".Visible(???)". It would be nice to find the answer in the documentation online but I haven't been able to. I find it hard to believe that I would be the first person who ever needed this functionality. • How can I make two "user" editable areas in Wordpress?

  Hi all, is there a way to have two posting areas in Wordpress, for clients who can not go into any HTML? Basically the template has 3 columns. One is vertical nav, thats no prob. Second is like a "sidebar" but where the main post will go, a skinny column. Third is large, "main area" size, but will also be user editable content. Does that make sense? Only error I am getting is line XX column YY - Error: required attribute "ALT" not specified I know the significance of "alt" attribute and I have omitted that where it is unnecessary .. (to be more elaborate .. • Fast block placement algorithm, advice needed?

  I need to emulate the window placement strategy of the Fluxbox window manager. As a rough guide, visualize randomly sized windows filling up the screen one at a time, where the rough size of each results in an average of 80 windows on screen without any window overlapping another. It is important to note that windows will close and the space that closed windows previously occupied becomes available once more for the placement of new windows. The window placement strategy has three binary options: Windows build horizontal rows or vertical columns (potentially) Windows are placed from left to right or right to left Windows are placed from top to bottom or bottom to top Why is the algorithm a problem? It needs to operate to the deadlines of a real time thread in an audio application. At this moment I am only concerned with getting a fast algorithm, don't concern yourself over the implications of real time threads and all the hurdles in programming that that brings. So far I have two choices which I have built loose prototypes for: 1) A port of the Fluxbox placement algorithm into my code. The problem with this is, the client (my program) gets kicked out of the audio server (JACK) when I try placing the worst case scenario of 256 blocks using the algorithm. This algorithm performs over 14000 full (linear) scans of the list of blocks already placed when placing the 256th window. 2) My alternative approach. Only partially implemented, this approach uses a data structure for each area of rectangular free unused space (the list of windows can be entirely separate, and is not required for testing of this algorithm). The data structure acts as a node in a doubly linked list (with sorted insertion), as well as containing the coordinates of the top-left corner, and the width and height. Furthermore, each block data structure also contains four links which connect to each immediately adjacent (touching) block on each of the four sides. IMPORTANT RULE: Each block may only touch with one block per side. The problem with this approach is, it's very complex. I have implemented the straightforward cases where 1) space is removed from one corner of a block, 2) splitting neighbouring blocks so that the IMPORTANT RULE is adhered to. The less straightforward case, where the space to be removed can only be found within a column or row of boxes, is only partially implemented - if one of the blocks to be removed is an exact fit for width (ie column) or height (ie row) then problems occur. And don't even mention the fact this only checks columns one box wide, and rows one box tall. I've implemented this algorithm in C - the language I am using for this project (I've not used C++ for a few years and am uncomfortable using it after having focused all my attention to C development, it's a hobby). The implementation is 700+ lines of code (including plenty of blank lines, brace lines, comments etc). The implementation only works for the horizontal-rows + left-right + top-bottom placement strategy. So I've either got to add some way of making this +700 lines of code work for the other 7 placement strategy options, or I'm going to have to duplicate those +700 lines of code for the other seven options. Neither of these is attractive, the first, because the existing code is complex enough, the second, because of bloat. The algorithm is not even at a stage where I can use it in the real time worst case scenario, because of missing functionality, so I still don't know if it actually performs better or worse than the first approach. What else is there? I've skimmed over and discounted: Bin Packing algorithms: their emphasis on optimal fit does not match the requirements of this algorithm. Recursive Bisection Placement algorithms: sounds promising, but these are for circuit design. Their emphasis is optimal wire length. Both of these, especially the latter, all elements to be placed/packs are known before the algorithm begins. I need an algorithm which works accumulatively with what it is given to do when it is told to do it. What are your thoughts on this? How would you approach it? What other algorithms should I look at? Or even what concepts should I research seeing as I've not studied computer science/software engineering? Please ask questions in comments if further information is needed. [edit] If it makes any difference, the units for the coordinates will not be pixels. The units are unimportant, but the grid where windows/blocks/whatever can be placed will be 127 x 127 units.

• JTable custom header renderer that looks like other headers with nimbus look and feel?

  Any time I create a custom header renderer for a JTable it ends up not looking correct with the nimbus look and feel. The default table headers have a silvery gradient, custom renderers do not look that way. In the past I just avoided creating custom header renderers. Is it possible to copy the default look onto my new custom renderer? Basically I want to add a checkbox and have the area around it look like a normal column header, not just gray. I do know how to add the checkbox though and make it click-able. Thanks

• Query and/or Search for SharePoint Document ID

  We have the sharepoint 2010 environment with Document ID's enabled. Given (part of) a Doc ID, we want to programmatically retrieve the document(s) matching that ID. The problem seems to be that this column is rather special, in that it might need special handling. Using an SPSiteDataQuery, fetching the _dlc_DocId field as part of the viewfields works fine. However, including it as part of the where query never results in any documents being fetched. Using the Search API has gotten us nowhere at all. Has anyone pulled this off, or any suggestions on how to tackle this problem? [Update] Looks like DocumentIdProvider.GetDocumentUrlsById might be used for this purpose. If necessary, the matching SPListItem can then be found by querying on the URL. However, the MSDN documentation doesn't document the documentId arugment properly, so I'm unsure whether partial ID's are allowed and in what format.

When a user visited a question many times, the view_count should be increased only 1. So I have to record which user has visited which question, and I think it is too much expensive to save them in the database, because the records will be huge. So I want to keep them in the memory, and persistent the number to database every 10 minutes. I have searched about "cache" of rails, but I haven't found an example.   I need to build a DSL Solution using MsBuild and want to be able to transform the TT files, I have tried the guide on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee847423(VS.100).aspx but I am getting the following errors: Failed to resolve include text for file:{0} and also Loading the include file '{0}' returned a null or empty string. There is a page on MSDN which has these issues and there resolutions : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb126242(VS.100).aspx but don't really give me enough information to resolve the issue. One thing to note in the error it has the following path: Error 72 Failed to resolve include text for file:C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\Dsl\ToolboxHelper.tt. EffectiveDatedAttributes contains a foreign key to PartyRelationship called ProductAuthorization. If I run this: select unique eda.productauthorization from effectivedatedattributes eda inner join partyrelationship pr on eda.productauthorization = pr.ID where pr.class = 'com.pmc.model.bind.ProductAuthorization' it returns a list of ProductAuthorization IDs. I need to take this list of IDs and insert a new row into EffectiveDatedAttributes for every ID, containing the ID as well as some other data. How would I iterate over the returned IDs from the previous select statement in order to do this?

  Ok, so the initial search in StackOverflow shows nothing related for this question. So here it goes: Let's pretend for a moment that you're just getting started in a career in computer programming. Let's say that, for whatever reason, you decide to use the .Net framework as a basis for your programming. Let's also say that you've been exposed to some programming background, but not one in .Net, so it seems foreign to you at first. And lastly, you don't have the benefit of 25 years of exposure to the Win32 API, which explains why it seems so foreign to you when you start looking at it. So the questions are: What is a comprehensive overview of what .Net is? It appears to be a combination of a runtime environment, a set of languages, a common set of libraries, and perhaps a few other things...so it's about as clear as mud. Specifically, what are the key components to .Net? What is the easiest way to understand .Net programming with regard to available APIs? Which language would best suit beginning programming out of the "stock" languages that Microsoft has to offer? (C++, C#, VB, etc.) What are some differences between .Net programming and programming in a procedural language (aka Pascal, Modula, etc.) What are some differences between .Net programming and programming in a "traditional" object-oriented language? (aka Smalltalk, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.) As I currently understand it, the CLR provides a foundation for all of the other languages to run on. What are some of the inherent limitations of the CLR? Given the enormous amount of API to cover, would it even be worth learning a .Net language (using the Microsoft APIs) given that you would not have prior exposure to Win32 programming? • Debugging dynamic sql + dynamic tables in MS SQL Server 2008.

  Hi, I have a messy stored procedure which uses dynamic sql. I can debug it in runtime by adding print @sql; where @sql; is the string containing the dynamic SQL, right before I call execute (@sql);. Now, the multi-page stored procedure also creates dynamic tables and uses them in a query. I want to print those tables to the console right before I do an execute, so that I know exactly what the query is trying to do. However, the SQL Server 08 does not like that. When I try: print #temp_table; and try to compile the S.P. I get this error: The name "#temp_table" is not permitted in this context.
