  • Which icons/buttons to use for help, about, info?

    I use the info button to display a settings page. This page is a modal. I need another button from here to display "About" info, since I've already used "info" for something. I have a search form that is accessed only from the modal. On the search form, I need a help icon. I can use the info button but that seems confusing, since I already use the info button from the main view to access the modal. What else can I do for help and about icons/buttons?

    I create windows like this: var obj = document.createElement('div'); obj.className = 'window'; obj.style.width = 300 + 'px'; obj.style.height = 200 + 'px'; obj.style.left = 30 + 'px'; obj.style.top = 200 + 'px'; //and so on and what I need is to attach some data to each window. The data will be grabbed via Ajax and displayed in the windows. How should I do it so that each window hold its own unique data? I don't need to display the whole data every time and this data would need be organized before being displayed, so I can't just add it with innerHTML. I need a way to hold it somewhere else where I could easily get it and then display it with innerHTML.

    I am trying to use the ModelForm to add my data. It is working well, except that the ForeignKey dropdown list is showing all values and I only want it to display the values that a pertinent for the logged in user.     i am not an android developer, prefer C# but i want to play with andorid a bit since i have a android device, apologize in advance for it. i want to make a simple app in android with the basic CRUD functions (create, read, update and delete) while the basic option is to use SQLiteOpenHelper i've seen DAO generators (like greenDAO) that make life more simple as i see it. so the first question is what DAOgenerator to use (if it all)? next is how to properly show it, while i know i need listview i still don't figure out exactly how to bind the database to it and to the querys i'll make for proper display each time i make a new query from a "search" screen, to the main "list display" screen

  • inner workings of PHP (really long PHP script)

    I have a really long php script for just 1 page i.e. something like: mywebsite.com/page.php?id=99999 I have about 10000-20000 cases of the id, each with a different settings. Will this slow down my website significantly? i.e. my question is really along the lines of, what happens when php is executed. does the server execute it and display the results, or does the client's computer download it, execute it and display the results. if its the latter, does it mean a really slow load time? each of the 10000-20000 cases has about 20-25 lines of code after it. thanks, xoxo

  • SSH copying folders

    I have a folder on my server that I'd like to copy to another directory. However, after I copy it and navigate to the new folder, some of the directories are RED and I can't navigate into them. I think this has something to do with them creating links instead of actually copying the folders. cp -a site2.com/httpdocs site1.com/httpdocs But then some of the sub folders from site2.com/httpdocs are setup as invalid links into site1.com/httpdocs and I cannot navigate to them nor can the webserver display them. Additionally, I have a permissions error where the copied files have their user set to site2.com but even after CHOWN I cannot get site1.com to display them.

  • How to handle redirections with codeigniter?

    Hi, im having problems starting a codeigniter project, the problem is that when i do something in a controller and then i want a page to display the result, an example: i have a form to add a item to the database, i get all the data in the controller and save it to database and then i want (if all went well) to redirect to the main page with a success msg, i was doing this with $this->load->view('admin', $data); the problem is that the url keeps saying admin/addItem so everytime the page gets refreshed it adds another item, now i found the: redirect('admin','refresh'); but this only helps me when i dont need to display any msg because this function dont allow to send a $data var. Any ideas? Probably this is really easy to fix but i cant find a way to handle the flow of the application the way i want, any help is apreciated. thanks ;)

    I have two png image files that I would like my android app to combine problematically into one png image file and am wondering if it is possible to do so? if so, what I would like to do is just overlay them on each other to create one file. the idea behind this is that I have a handful of png files, some with a portion of the image on the left with the rest transparent and the others with an image on the right and the rest transparent. and based on user input it will combine the two to make one file to display. (and i cant just display the two images side by side, they need to be one file) is this possible and how so?

    I've got an issue where I was tying to center images using the jQuery Cycle plugin. I found this solution, but it wasn't working on single images (there isn't always 2 images), so I wrote my own little bit of code, which seems to be working, except it sometimes doesn't subtract the height of the image from the height of the div, and so i end up with a margin of 310px. var $image_cnt = $("#images > img").size(); if($image_cnt < 2) { var $single_img = $("#images").children(':first-child'); var h = $single_img.height(); $single_img.css({ marginTop: (620 - h) / 2, }); $(".next").css("display","none"); $(".prev").css("display","none"); } I haven't used jQuery much, and just wanted to know if I'd missed something simple, or had written something wrong, which is why the marginTop wasn't playing nice.

I've said that doing so would mean that any clients wishing to display the objects would have to write their own code to convert the object to string, but that was answered with "yes they would". Now specifically, the objects in this system are graphic elements like rectangles, circles, etc and the current representation is to display x, y, scale, bounds, etc... So, where does the crowd lie? When should you and when shouldn't you implement toString?

    I have 3 tables, 'u' 'd' 's' 'u' has userid divid 'd' has divid divname 's' has sname primaryuserid secondaryuserid Now what I'd like to do is display a table with rows of the following format userid, divname, sname Plus figure out a way to decipher whether userid is a primary or secondary for this sname table. I'm able to show userid and divname using a left join, but I don't know how I would add a third table? To make it trickier, there can be more than 1 snames for each userid, up to ~20. Is there a way to display 0-20 snames depending on the userid, seperated with commas?

    I have such div: <div class="box"> <div id="myid" style="display:hidden;"> <p>some stuff here</p></div> </div> when I do $("myid").slideToggle("slow"); , if the content of has bigger height over box, my content overflows from the bottom of the "box" class, weirdly this doesn't happen with other browsers but IE8 How can I fix this issue so that when "myid" starts to display content, height of the .box resizes itself to fit the inner div.

    Okay so have a database that uses the time functions for a list of events and then displays the data as: echo "<b>Time Frame:"; echo "$time_start"; echo "&nbsp;-&nbsp;"; echo "$time_end"; Although that displays the time as 11:00:00 if i want the time to be 11:00 am. Is there anyway to make this time display as a standard "11:00"? and also if in the mysql datababse enter it as military time (ex. 13:00) to make it display 1:00pm? I have tried many things.     I have to store hindi text in a MySQL database, fetch it using a PHP script and display it on a webpage. I did the following: I created a database and set its encoding to UTF-8 and also the collation to utf8_bin. I added a varchar field in the table and set it to accept UTF-8 text in the charset property. Then I set about adding data to it. Here I had to copy data from an existing site. The hindi text looks like this: ????????:05:30 I directly copied this text into my database and used the PHP code echo(utf8_encode($string)) to display the data. Upon doing so the browser showed me "??????". When I inserted the UTF equivalent of the text by going to "view source" in the browser, however, ???????? translates into &#2360;&#2370;&#2352;&#2381;&#2351;&#2379;&#2342;&#2351;. If I enter and store &#2360;&#2370;&#2352;&#2381;&#2351;&#2379;&#2342;&#2351; in the database, it converts perfectly. So what I want to know is how I can directly store ???????? into my database and fetch it and display it in my webpage using PHP. Also, can anyone help me understand if there's a script which when I type in ????????, gives me &#2360;&#2370;&#2352;&#2381;&#2351;&#2379;&#2342;&#2351;? Solution Found I wrote the following sample script which worked for me.   • Weird vps server issue

    I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop.   • Ubuntu: Failure to login with multiple video adapters

    Forgive my ignorance, for I am a complete linux noob. I have a computer with three video cards and six monitors. Works great on Windows. Trying to get it to run Ubuntu as well. It loads fine when I have it configured to run on one adapter; detects both screens, runs ok. But I want to turn the other 4 monitors on and run the whole thing as one extended desktop (one session, etc). So I downloaded and installed the newest ATI driver for Linux, which seems to work, kinda. I ran this to set up the screens: aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f Now when I boot, Ubuntu seems to turn on all the screens (3 viewports, each with two cloned displays from what I can tell). When I enter my login info OR move the mouse off the main screen, the screens freeze and the kbd/ms become unresponsive. aticonfig generated xorg.conf included below. Have tried the following: aticonfig -initial -f - works, but only detects the primary adapter and 2 screens aticccle - Tells me I have to reboot after enabling the other cards. Then goes into above described freezing state. aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f - see above Manually editing xorg.conf file with my limited knowledge - Was able to get two adapters running, but only the second adapter initialized while the primary stopped at the Ubuntu boot screen. Was unable to see the login prompt. Froze after I logged in blindly (was able to hear the login sound). Using generic "radeon" driver instead of ATI Proprietary driver with the above init attempts Toggling xinerama Various combinations of the above Hardware: Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 8GB DDR2 (3x) ATI Radeon HD 4680 5 monitors (21W, 21W, 22W Portrait, 22W Portrait, 19")and an HDTV (26"W, HDMI) in a horizontal arrangement I know next to nothing about Linux/Ubuntu aside from basic filesystem navigation, editing text files, and accessing my local and networked Windows stores and shares.   • TV not detected by Windows/VGA - when there is a WHDI device in the signal chain

    I'm at my wit's end with this one... I had an EVGA GTS 250, and I used to plug it's HDMI out into a WHDI sender, which transmitted to its corresponding WHDI receiver 15ft away, which then connected to a Samsung LN40D LCD TV through another HDMI cable. PC/VGA < [hdmi cable] < WHDI sender <[air] WHDI receiver < [hdmi cable] < TV It was perfect, stable, no perceivable latency. I just plugged everything the first time and it worked instantly. It sent 5.1 audio, and Windows/nVidia Control Center detected the TV by its name. The WHDI device is this one: http://goo.gl/Q8iWI5 Now I bought an EVGA GTX 650, and WHDI doesn't work anymore. Both Windows and nVidia Control Center won't detect the TV, only the monitor that's connected via DVI. The TV screen shows "TX202913 connected. Check video signal." on top of a black screen. Though the device is not the problem itself, just the fact that it's not allowing direct connection between PC and TV. I would bet that if put an AVR in its place I'd also have this issue. The HDMI on this new card works with other monitors. If I put the older card back, WHDI works normally. I have googled this for 5 months on and off. Once I bumped into a page that showed how to force a display device to always-on through registry edit. Once I restarted windows, the Tv (through WHDI) displayed my expanded or duplicated desktop at 1024x768 ONLY, and listed the display as "digital display". I could not change the resolution and it wouldn't playback audio (although the option was available at nVidia Control Center HDMI audio options, but did not work). This proves that there is no conflict between the devices, except that software-wise, Windows cannot, for the life of it, understand that there's a TV there to send video/audio to. Since this won't do (no audio, poor video), I reverted this regedit. It's also not an EDID problem within the TV, since when connected directly it works. The last weird bit of this saga is that today, I reminded of Windows' "Add Device" dialog, gave it a go, and a "Samsung Generic UPNP TV" showed up, which I promptly installed the drives for, rising to a climax of... ...NOTHING HAPPENING. As far as I can tell, it really didn't change anything other than using up a few kb in my main disc. I should also say that I looked a LOT into handshake problems and nothing applied either. Do any of you have an idea of what may be going on? I can't stand the thought of having a us$200 device not working because of the addition of a newer graphics card, when the much older one had no issues. There is absolutely NO REASON for this to happen. There is NO documentation on WHDI online. Apparently no one buys this stuff. For the same reason, no one responded to this same plea for help on NVidia and EVGA forums. Worst case, this can be a warning about this setup for people in the future. Thanx in advance.

  • How do I make an external hard drive keep the same drive letter permanently?

    I have a desktop PC (2002 vintage) running Windows XP that I turn on about 2 or 3 times per week. I have a mains powered 250Gb Western Digital hard disk connected to it via USB. I always turn the hard disk on before the PC so it's up and running as the PC boots. When I first connected the external hard disk, the PC assigned it a letter ('i' if it matters) and I've installed software to it, created shortcuts to various files and folders on the disk using that letter. For years everything was fine then I would boot the PC and the hard disk was assigned a different letter. I'd then have to go into 'my computer/manage/disk management' and manually change the letter back to 'i'. If I then rebooted the PC, the hard disk would usually still be 'i' but after the next reboot would be some other random letter and I have to manually change it back to 'i'. This would go on for some time then there'd be periods when the it would always be 'i' then, for no apparent reason (no new devices added, for example), the drive letter would start changing again. At the moment it's in random drive letter mood so I thought I'd ask the following question... How do I assign the external hard disk to be 'i' permanently? Answer: Thanks Molly that seems to have done the trick (after a little fiddling) - slightly disappointed there wasn't a way to do it within Windows without installing something else though. For anyone else trying this, it wasn't completely straightforward so here's what happened with me. I installed USBDLM as per the instructions on its website. I guessed that I had to assign the first USB letter to i so replaced the 'Letter1=' lines to 'Letter=I' in the ini file. To test it, I rebooted the PC only to find it came back up with the display set to 640x480 in 16 colours. After some investigation, I re-installed the display drivers and rebooted and set the display back to its usual setting. The external hard disk now gets set to 'i' but I found I had to re-apply sharing status to it so it was seen from my laptop which is on the same network. The end result of all this is that it now does what I wanted although it does act as though the hard drive has just been plugged in a few seconds after the Windows desktop appears i.e. the little box appears with a progress bar as it searches through the contents of the 'new' hard drive and I eventually get a dialogue box saying 'This disk or device contains more than one type of content. What do you want Windows to do?' and lists options such as play media files, print the pictures or open folder to view the files. This is a tiny pain I wish didn't happen but not exactly a huge price to pay. Other than that - it seems to work fine :) Looks like a spoke too soon... Every time I reboot, I have to re-share the 'i' drive (which I didn't have to do before) so it can be seen by my laptop on the same network. Any ideas how to make that permanent?
