  There used to be a check-box in preferences in Excel 2003 to disable moving down on Enter key after you edited a cell. Where could I find that setting in Excel 2007? <whining on>It drives me insane how microsoft trashes users skills and "fingers" memory to make what their new users may be will find easier. What about us, using these products for ten years?<whining off> I want to control moving around with arrow keys, and Enter to only return me from the cell editing mode to navigation, not moving down. I'm not in a data entry business!! I'm analyzing data, editing just few cells time-to-time.

• Is it possible to use a static IP assigned by my ISP for an offsite web server on a VPS (different ISP)?

  I have a web server on a Virtual Private Server with a hosting provider. Unfortunately, they are really stingy with IP addresses and I need to run several SSL certificates on my server, so I will need a few more than I have. I have a block of 5 static IP addresses on a business package through a different ISP and I am only using 1 of them for connectivity in the office. What I am wondering is if it is possible to use the 4 unused static IP addresses from this ISP on my VPS, which is hosted by another ISP? The VPS (web server) is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Web Edition. If this can be done, please let me know how to configure it.

• Dead-simple USB-based Windows partition cloner?

  Clonezilla is a fine open-source tool, but it requires going through several screens. Since I need to save/restore the same Windows partition, I was wondering if someone knew of a tool (open-source or not) that is easier to use and boots off a USB keydrive. Ideally, it'll save the two commands to save/restore a partition, so I just need to boot the host from the USB key, choose the command, and it'll take care of business. Are there solutions that look like this? Thank you. Edit: Here's one among other articles that shows how to tell CZ to run a script to avoid the multiple screens.

• Does Windows notice when a VM is moved around?

  I'm thinking of migrating a Desktop machine (Windows XP) to a VM solution (VirtualBox or MS Virtual PC). The reason is that I need a new hardware anyways and I don't want to (cannot properly) reinstall all the "business" apps on there. So my plan goes as follows: I'll pull an image of the machine and restore it to a Virtual Machine using Acronis Universal Restore or some other tool that can restore to dissimilar hardware. (The process is largely irrelevant for this question I think.) Once I have this virtual machine properly running I'll move it to a new PC. So the question now is. Are there any caveats wrt. to Windows (XP?) being installed in a VM and the VM machine being moved around on different host computers? Can anything break in the OS inside the VM? Will there be troubles wrt. to Windows activation?

  When I open up Active Directory Users and Computers from my workstation, I receive an error: Naming information cannot be located because: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly configured and is currently online. If I log in to my workstation as somebody else, it works. If I log into a different workstation using my account, it works. All the workstations in question are running Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit) or Windows Server 2008. The domain controller in question is running Windows Small Business Server 2008. Everything else (that I tried) in the Remote Server Administration Tools runs just fine. Any thoughts? Edit: I just tried reinstalling RSAT. No such luck.

• Our server hosting provider asked for our root password

  I work at a company that develops and hosts a small business critical system. We have an "Elastic cloud server" from a professional hosting provider. I recently got an email from them saying that they've had some problems with their backup solution and that they needed to install a new kernel. And they wanted us to send them the root password so they could do this work. I know that the email came from them. It's not [email protected] or anything like that. I called them and asked them about this, and they were like "yep, we need the password to do this". It just seems odd to send the root password over email like this. Do I have any reason to be concerned?

Does it need the mydb_full.bak file to do its business? If I wanted to save disk space, could I zip up the mydb_full.bak file to a .zip file after it's created without adversely affecting the differential backups, and if I needed to restore, just unzip the full backup before starting?

  We have a business web application in ASP.NET + SQL Server 2008. In the beginning, SQL Server and IIS were on the same machine. Now we bought another machine. Current configuration is IIS machine plus SQL Server machine, and they are connected by a 1gb LAN connection. With this configuration our web application is slower than before. Max bandwidth is 1-2% of network, about 15mbps. When we use another threads to the same SQL Server from the same IIS machine, network use is higher. So this is no problem with SQL Server. Ho we can make higher bandwidth for this SQL connection?   Hi all, Problem description: -I'm running Windows Server 2003 and I'm trying to install the FTP service following this procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323384 -At step 7 of the above procedure I provide Windows Small Business Server 2003 disc1 and the installation completes successfully (note: the installer looks for 'ftpctrs2.dll' but the disk contains 'FTPCTRS2.DL_' and seems happy with it as per allowed file types). -However the installation silently fails because if I go back to the list of windows components, FTP is still unchecked, and if I open IIS, the FTP sites section is missing. Question: -How can I force the installation of FTP? Additional info: I don't think this is related but will mention it in case I'm wrong and it is: before I could attempt to install FTP I ran into, and fixed, the issue described in this solution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838860 Thanks.

I've been following the depletion of IPv4 addresses for some time and realize the "crisis" has been going on for many years and IPv4 addresses have lasted longer than expected, however... As the systems administrator for a small SaaS / website hosting company, what steps should I be taking to prepare for IPv6? We run a handful of CentOS and Ubuntu Linux systems on managed hardware in a remote datacenter. All our servers have IPv6 addresses but they appear to be link local addresses. Our primary business function is website hosting on a proprietary website CMS system. One of my concerns is SSL certificates; at the moment every customer with an SSL certificate gets a dedicated IPv4 IP address. What else should I be concerned about / what action should I take to be prepared for IPv4 depletion?

• How can we implement network search for Windows AND OS X clients?

  We have a network with Windows 7 and OS X (10.5 and 10.6) computers. Our servers run on Windows Server 2003 (1 Small Business Server, 2 Standard). We need to be able to search through about 15.000 - 30.000 documents in our archives. The best solution would be if users can search directly from the Windows menu (on Windows 7) or the Spotlight menu (on OS X 10.5 and 10.6). Also good would be if users can search directly from the search bar in their browsers, or by first visiting a site with the search form. In case the users search through the browser, it's important they they are able to open a file in the search results just by clicking on it. I have tested Microsoft Search Server Express, but it doesn't meet the requirements (no OS X support, results in the browser can't be opened by clicking in anything but Internet Explorer). I have looked at Spotlight server, but that only supports OS X. Thanks!

  Hi, First of all, I hope my post are is posted in the right section . Below are something i got confused hope you one can help. My business partner 's IP server are in: Sanjose, CA , and I am looking for a datacenter which give the least latency to that IP. I found 2 . 1st datcenter is in San Francisco, CA . 2nd data center is in Newyork. Then I do the ping from each datacenter to the my partner's IP. 1st datcenter's result: 75ms 2nd datacenter's result: 2ms I 've done multiple time, 2nd datacenter always give better result. Now my question is: Isn't the 1st datacenter suppose to give better result, since their location are closer ? How come the result produce different, what is the accurate way to check latency ?   I own a small private security services business. Some of my clients require 2-10 security officers per location. I'm trying to think outside the box in order to solve my communications problem. I'd rather not buy or lease hf radios or voip systems at the current rates. • Can not find the source of Grant permission on a folder

  I have a security mystery :) Effective permissions tab shows that a few sampled users (IT ops) have any and all rights (all boxes are ticked). The permissions show that Local Administrators group has full access and some business users have too of which the sampled users are not members of. Local Administrators group has some AD IT Ops related groups of which the sampled users, again, appear not be members. The sampled users are not members of Domain Administrators either. I've tried tracing backwards (from permissions to user) and forwards (user to permission) and could not find anything. At this point, there are two options: I've missed something and they are members of some groups. There's another way of getting full permissions. Effective Permissions are horribly wrong. Is there a way to retrieve the decision logic of Effective Permissions? Any hints, tips, ideas?

• Aligning Numbered Bullet Points in Word 2007

  Hello, I am putting together a very large business manual which incorportaes numbered heading, steps to follow, diagrams, etc. When using the bullet points, they align perfectly as I work through the processes. However when I include a diagram, or something different from the "norm" of text, the alignment changes. I would like all the bullets points to be aligned in the whole document regardless of where they appear in the document. Is there a way to save the settings so that the bullets always appear in the same position? Currently I am having to reset the indents by dragging the tabs on the ruler. This will be a large document, so I don't want to manually adjust the numbered bullets every time. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

• Applications starts very slowly from a network path

  Hi We have a windows 2008 server which hosts the network share \\srvcompany\lib. This share contains several applications needed for the daily business. Every client/user (all win xp) has shortcuts on the desktop to these apps. We have the problem that at several (but not all) clients the apps starts very slowly. If I copy the application's programm files to a local folder then they'll start fastly. When I watch the memory usage in the task manager on such a "slow" machine while an applications starts I notice that the memory usage grows much slowier than when I start the app from a "fast" machine. But when I copy files with Windows Explorer from this share, the speed is nearly the same. I've also checked the network driver, both tested clients have the same network card with the same driver version. Has anyone an idea where or what I should check next to solve this problem? Recently we got most of emails bounced back and some bounces describes a reason as greylisting, others - just general failure. It is ruining our business because clients are calling that they didn't get the emails with confirmation and invoices. How to get off greylisting, and to not be greylisted? What actions should we do?   As a junior technician I've had to deal with (or will have to deal with) some problems in the past and only being a junior technicain I don't have the confidence or respect from management staff to speak up. For instance, we're having a entirely new system. From Server 2003/XP going to Sevrer 2008 R2/Win7/VMWare/Digital Signage and the current amount of time dedicated to the training of the IT support department currently stands at 0. They seem to think that all it systems are the same and are going to get a bit of shock when I can't help them. I think there;s some UK legislation saying a school/business have to put money and time aside for training, but I'm not sure. What have you had to deal with?

• What would cause a single working website to not work on 1 out of 5 devices on a network?

  There is a specific website that loads up without problem on all machines on my network (both wired and wireless) except one laptop. This laptop is a Windows 7 machine that was just recovered using the recovery partition, so it is fresh. The site will not load in Firefox 3.6 or IE 8. The website is http://www.weightwacthers.com The site loads fine on my desktop, iPhone, and Droid, but not the laptop. In all my years in this business I've honestly never seen this happen. Also, 'Is it down for me or everyone' reports that it is indeed only me. What would cause this to happen?

  I'm about to throw in the towel on this one. Running SQL Server 2008 enterprise on Windows 7 x64. Can't get past this issue. When I try to Import / Export Data from databases through SQL Server Management Studio I get the following Error. Error: TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard ------------------------------ The SSIS Data Flow Task could not be created. Verify that DTSPipeline.dll is available and registered. The wizard cannot continue and it will terminate. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Cannot create a task with the name "STOCK:PipelineTask". Verify that the name is correct. ({0194F10C-9860-4A4F-AF8B-DE7EFD89859F}) I have tried many solutions found via Google, but none of them have worked. A side issue that may be related is when I try to create an Integration Services Project in Business Intelligence Studio I get a 'project creation failed' error.

• exim sending mail to wrong mail server

  I have recently taken over management of a server running centos and whm. It has several websites and domains running under reseller accounts. Email has always been on a server at our actual office. I have recently changed our email from our local email server to gapps for business (our local email server was pretty archaic). However, when any email is sent from the web server (such as wordpress etc) to our domain - it still routes it to the IP of our old email server. I am not very familiar with WHM or exim so don't really know how to address this. Email to other domains works fine and the gapps is working perfectly. Any help is much appreciated.

• Compiling Apache 2.2.11 on AIX 6.1, .so files not genereated

  I am compiling Apache 2 (2.2.11 yeh, Its old...but its a requirement) on AIX 6.1 with GCC 4.2.0. I am using the configure options: ./configure \ --enable-module=rewrite\ --enable-module=log_referer\ --with-included-apr \ --enable-proxy \ --enable-ssl=shared \ --with-ssl=/usr \ --prefix=/PATH/apache \ --enable-so \ --enable-mods-shared="proxy proxy_http proxy_connect headers mod_proxy mod_ssl" The configure, followed by the make/make install processes all run without error of any kind. However, when I look int he modules directory for the /PATH/modules directory there are no .so files created. Sadly because of the nature of what I am doing, and the business I am in, I am locked into the software versions as described.

  We host VPSes for customers. Each customer VPS is given an LVM LV on a standard spindle hard disk. If the customer were to leave, we zero out this LV ensuring that their data does not leak over to another customers. We are thinking of going with SSDs for our hosting business. Given that SSDs have the "wear levelling" technology, does that make zeroing pointless? Does this make this SSD idea unfeasable, given we can't allow customer data to leak over to another customer?   I'm in the midst of resolving a bunch of security issues on a clients server to get them compliant with credit card laws and such. The first order of business is getting php from 5.2.14 to 5.2.16. Is there something similar for CentOS? This output makes it look like it's ignoring all the main package repos as well.

  Before I pose my question, I will give some insight as per my scenario: I work for a small business (cost is an important factor) Our bandwidth is limited and would not support an in-house FTP server We need to share files (mostly pdf, inDesign, Illustrator documents) to our clients, and as we expand, we are finding that our current locally-hosted FTP solution is too slow and is becoming a detriment to our sales team. What we need is a remotely hosted solution to share files with our clients, specifically with the following features: Greater than 100gb of secure storage The Ability to distribute unique log in credentials to clients, granting access to a personalized directory or folder, while limiting access to other files on the server. A relatively simple web-based UI for clients with limited computer knowledge We have considered a dedicated remote server, and web-based services (box.net, yousendit.com, onehub.com, filesanywhere.com) but I am unsure as per the direction we should be taking - have I left another solution out?
