• Does Windows 7 RC handle non Windows Media Center remotes yet?

  I'm mostly a Linux geek, but while I will be trying to make my first Arch Linux installation in a virtual machine to learn and make my installation script for the true install, I need a simple OS and Windows 7 was better than Windows XP Media Center cause Media Center is outdated on XP. I tested it has a beta but my Hauppauge wintv-pvr usb2 remote wasn't working but the tv-tuner worked well and I haven't tested Windows XP Mode and my printer Epson Stylus Photo R300. Do someone know this hardware and if the XP Mode is easily supported?

• APC switched rack PDU: Startup outlet state

  I have an APC Switched Rack PDU powering a number of servers in a remote datacentre. After a recent power outage, I noticed that the outlets did not automatically default to the On status once power was restored. Having reviewed the Web UI, I cannot find this option. I'm not certain of the model number (it doesn't appear to be visible in the Web UI), but I think it's this one. Is it possible to configure these PDU units to automatically power outlets after a cold start?

  I have lighttpd setup on a machine (say ip is 10.107.105.13) with following details. inet addr : 10.107.105.13 Bcast : 10.107.111.255 Mask : 255.255.240.0 I can access my site on this computer by using firefox http://localhost/index.html. Now I am trying to access this site from another computer with following details inet addr : 10.14.42.7 Bcast : 10.14.42.255 Mask : 255.255.255.0 But it says 'access denied'. nmap 10.107.105.13 gives the following output. • Logitech Optical Mouse Frozen In Middle of Windows XP Pro Screen

  I have a Logitech Optical Mouse/Keyboard. I have been using them just fine with the system drivers for almost a year now. I recently updated my Kaspersky software and rebooted. Now the mouse is frozen in the middle of my screen. I am not able to login to the Windows XP Pro box that has the frozen mouse (because i can't work the mouse) but am able to remote desktop to this computer. Things I know / have tried: When I boot on the problem computer, I am able to use the keyboard, but not the mouse. I have installed the latest version of Logitech's SetPoint (with the updated drivers) on the problem computer (via remote desktop) and that didn't seem to matter. I bought new batteries for the mouse and that didn't matter. I have tried the mouse/keyboard on another computer and the mouse works just fine there. My suspicion is that the Kaspersky install has overwritten a driver of some sort. Things I have not done (and would appreciate detailed steps if you feel this is the way to go): 1) Uninstalled all the mouse drivers on the machine and reboot. Then, reinstall. Note: When I get to the Device Manager I don't see an option for Human Interface Devices (where the mouse device is). Here are my options: Computer, Disk Drives, DVD/CD-Rom drives, Floppy controllers, IDE ATA/ATAPI, Imaging devices, Network Adapters, Other devices, Ports, Processors, Sound, video, and gaming, System devices, USB controllers. Also, I should point out that Video Controller is the only thing under Other devices and it has a yellow exclamation mark. The same is true for all the items under Universal Serial Bus controllers. I think this means I have to update my BIOS but, since my mouse was working just fine without doing that, I don't think that is my problem. So, how do I get to my Mouse Device? 2) Update my BIOS. Note: As pointed out above, I don't think this matters as my mouse was working just fine under my computer's current BIOS version. Thanks for your help.

However Administrators (this includes Domain\Domain Admin also) should not be affected by this. They should be able to connect to terminal server with out any interruption.   We are getting this exception when we start our cluster (2 managed servers, 1 admin), we have deployed only the ears corresponding to the OBPM 10.3.1 SP1 in a weblogic 10.3. When the server cluster starts, one of the managed servers (the first to start) get overloaded and ran out of connections to the directory DB because of this repeatedly error.   Does anyone know of a program that would allow you to control multiple IR cameras via usb (computer jack) to rs232 (camera hardware)? We have a cameraswitcher, very low key, that I can press buttons and it willswitch the view of the camera from one to the next. currently I control the cameras by sellecting the cameras via a remote control for change of angles. • XFS and loss of data when power goes down

  Each time electricity goes down, my desktop (without UPS) loses some temporary information. Opera can lose settings, history, cache, or mail accounts (Thanks heavens I was wise to use IMAP). Partially or all together. a whole file (complete and save) in Geany appeared empty (and I didn't commit it to Git) rhythmbox lost all podcasts subscription data I'm afraid there are other losses I just didn't see. What's the reason? A memory files cache, a mem-disk? Or non-atomic file writes in xfs? I have Ubuntu 9.10 and XFS on both / and /home partitions. Is ext4 safer in such circumstances? I've seen ext3 is faster. Is it as safe as *4? Given that the apartment I rent is connected to a common bus and 1 safety switch for several apartments, and the neighbors - alone or together - overload it at least once every week, the lights go down often enough for this to be an issue.

• Deploying new code live

  What's the best practise to deploy new code on a live (e-commerce) site? For now I have stopped apache for +/- 10 seconds when renaming directory public_html_new to public_html and old to public_html_old. This creates a short down-time, before I start Apache again. The same question goes if using Git to pull the new repo to the live directory. Can I pull the repo while the site is active? And how about if I need to copy a DB as well? During the tar (backup purpose) compression of the live site I noticed that changes occurred in the media directory. That indicated to me that files keep on changing periodically. And if these changes can interfere if Apache is not stopped during deployment.

  I need to start using GIT for my projects from now on and I need to use some UNIX commands. but no matter what I do, I always receive "command not found" error.   I am trying to compile file-roller from git, but running autogen.sh gives me this error configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-3.0 >= 2.91.1) were not met: No package 'gtk+-3.0' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GTK_CFLAGS and GTK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. I am running Ubuntu Maverick and don't wish to completely replace my current version of gtk, glib, etc. I have tried to compile GTK using the --prefix argument of autogen.sh, but this gives me a similar error about my version of glib. How can I successfully compile file-roller using these new libraries without borking my install?

I have come across a Windows XP machine that is sending unwanted p2p traffic. I have done a 'netstat -b' command and explorer.exe is sending out the traffic. I have had a look into the messages explorer.exe is sending in Spy++ and the only related ones I can see are socket connections etc... My question is what can I do to look into this deeper? What does malware achieve by sending p2p traffic? I know to fix the problem the easiest way is to reinstall Windows but I want to get to the bottom of it first, just out of interest. Edit: Had a look at Deoendency Walker and Process Explorer. Both great tools. My doubt is if I create a shared folder on domainA with read access to everyone for e.g., \\server1.domainA.net\sharedfolder. I can also ssh to other (non-Solaris) machines on that network fine so I don't believe that it's a network issue (though, since I'm a few hundred miles away, I can't be sure).
