• MathType and LibreOffice Math comparison

  In my office my team and I are going to type texts in the future which will include mathematical signs. Two programs are being proposed: LibreOffice Writer + Math or Microsoft Office + MathType. I would like to advocate for the first solution, but I need to know what technical advantages and disadvantages each program has. Compatibility with Ubuntu is an evident and important characteristic for LibreOffice, but could you give some other aspects? As a side question, do you advice any other program, even if not WYSIWYG and thus not my preference in this case?

• 14.04 LTS, 32-bit, Software Updater error "Failed to download repository information: Check your internet connection"

  There isn't much to say about this one: when I run Software Updater, I get the above error message. That can't be good. Interestingly, when I click on "Settings..." and then close the settings dialogue that pops up, all of a sudden Software Updater successfully finds updates and installs them. I thought I should bring this to the attention of the Ubuntu community. sudo apt-get update returns the following: W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ppa/ubuntu/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I have screen captures, but I don't have enough reputation points to post them.

Few examples of culture differences: From "Spent a day on trying to map database query with five complex joins in NHibernate" to "Wrote a SQL query and used DataReader to pull data in" From "Wrote super-fast JSON parser in C++" to "Used Python to parse JSON response and call C++ code" From "Let's use WCF because it supports all possible communication standards" to "REST is simple text-based format, let's stick with it and use simple HTTP handlers"

• How to avoid mediocre CV.

  Though in every project we (testers) face different set challenges, when it comes to CV, more or less we have same responsibilities. For example responsibilities like understanding requirements, preparing and executing test cases, creating defects, liaising with dev, BA teams will be repeated for every project we involve. If we keep writing same responsibilities for every role, CV becomes mediocre and a yarn. In fact most of the testing resumes I have come across are like that. How do I avoid repetition of responsibilities in my resume and make it more interesting? If this is not the correct forum for this question let me know. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The reason i ask is i'm interested in QA as my career and am learning tools like JUnit , TestNG and couple of frameworks. I just want to know until what level of unit testing is done by developer and from what point QA engineer takes over testing for better test coverage ? • recover data in linux removed with rm

  Today i deleted my home directory (in wrong action) with: sudo rm -rf * And when i use extundelete i get this message: root@ubuntu:~# sudo extundelete --restore-directory /home/hamed/ /dev/sda2WARNING: Extended attributes are not restored. Loading filesystem metadata ... 746 groups loaded. Loading journal descriptors ... 29931 descriptors loaded. Searching for recoverable inodes in directory /home/hamed/ ... 498 recoverable inodes found. Looking through the directory structure for deleted files ... 498 recoverable inodes still lost. No files were undeleted. why it can't recover? Anyone can help me to return my Desktop, Documents and etc? I have ubuntu 14.04.

• Dual Boot 10.10 and 11.04 can't boot into 10.10 after an update.

  I've been dual booting my system with Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) and 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) but today after an update, I can't boot into 10.10, there's only option to boot into 11.04 and Grub also looks a bit different. Before this update, I used to see first option for 11.04 and an other option called /dev/sda1 for 10.10 but now there is a new option called Previous Linux Versions, but when I Enter into that menu, there is no option to boot into 10.10 all the options take me to 11.04 now it looks like this... And when I click on Previous Linux Versions...

• Is agile about development or management?

  On a debate over what Scrum is all about, I found that perhaps I totally misunderstood the agile thing. It appears to me that Scrum (which is certainly considered an Agile process) is all about managing features and sprints and roles and stuff with nothing to do with TDD, pair programming, CI, refactoring and other developer centric techniques and practices that I though (until now) are the heart of agile. Now I am facing a difficulty ! 1) Is Scrum agnostic to whether developers do agile practices? 2) Can you implement Scrum in a team that does not utilize automated tests? does not perform refactoring or does not adhere to the agile programming practices?

  You may have noticed that Weblogic Server (WLS) 9.2.X and WLS 10.0.X releases have been removed from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. The Delivery Team has been asked to remove or update any product pack or product that embeds WLS 10.3.2 or earlier versions. This is consistent with general Oracle practice of removing old product versions from public distribution systems, and encourages customer usage and adoption of newer product releases such as WLS 10.3.3 or newer.  For the convenience of existing supported customers, a media request SR on My Oracle Support can be entered to obtain any removed media.  Information on how to open such an SR can be found on  MOS Doc ID 1071023.1 . OTN will also be reviewed and similar modifications may potentially be done.  The following media packs will be removed from E-Delivery this week, as of the above reason. • How can I get a USB floppy drive to work?

  I have a Toshiba USB floppy drive that I need to use under Ubuntu. When I connect it, and insert a floppy disk in it, I do not see anything mounted under Ubuntu 10.10. I was suspecting the hardware and/or the floppy disk to be defective, and so I tested the floppy disk as well as the floppy drive itself under Windows XP, and everything was just fine. I was able to find the following instructions: Add the following line to the /etc/modules file: floppy Enter the following shell commands: mkdir /media/floppy mount -t vfat /dev/sdc /media/floppy -o uid=1000 This will mount the floppy, but I would like this to happen automatically, so when I connect the drive to the USB port, it automatically mounts the floppy. How can I make this work? Or does Ubuntu only work with internal Floppy drives?

• 50-synaptics.conf options not working

  How does Ubuntu come up with the default synaptics settings? I've got Ubuntu Netbook 10.10 installed on an Eeepc 900. Out of the box TapButton2 was set to 3, and TapButton3 was set to 2. I have several custom synaptics settings I want as system wide defaults. Right now I use a script with synclient commands I have to run every boot or wake. Pita. It used to be everything went in xorg.conf..which no longer exists. I'm trying to learn the new way, which is apparently conf files at /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. I edited 50-synaptics.conf to look like: Section "InputClass" Identifier "touchpad catchall" Driver "synaptics" MatchIsTouchpad "on" MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*" Option "LockedDrags" "1" Option "TapButton2" "2" Option "TapButton3" "3" EndSection But my next X session (startx -- :2) doesn't have the options configured.

• Release Notes for 11/28/2012

  This week we wrapped up a set of work to improve the actions and navigation within the project tabs. Now each tab in a project has a more consistent interaction experience. The navigation and filter activities are on the left side and action based links on the right. For example, on the Issue Tracker tab, the Basic and Advanced filters are on the left and the ability to create a new issue and subscribe the project are on the right.   Have ideas on how to improve CodePlex?
