  • Java fatal error, don't know what it means

    It happens at the same place in my code (albeit not the first time the method is executed) but I can't make head or tail of what is wrong. (Doubly so as it's code for a robot). Be most appreciative if someone can give me an idea of what kind of problem it is. I assume it's to do with threading (multi-threaded app) but I don't really know what?!? Worried as deadline for uni project is looming!!! I'm also not entirely sure how the return value testing works- I've got a manual that briefly covers bash, which says that the meaning of $? is "match one character", and I'm not entirely sure how that grabs the return value. Should I be using -eq or = for testing the return value? From what I can tell -eq tests strings and = tests numerals, but I'm not sure what the type of the return value is.

    When I connect an USB drive to an Ununtu Hardy and Jaunty system, the system mounts the partitions found on the drive, and opens a Nautilus window for each mounted partitions. Within Nautilus, I am able to unmount partitions. What I need is a command or action which forces the system to rescan the available drives and partitions, and automount each not mounted partition, including those which I've manually unmounted from Nautilus. sudo /etc/init.d/udev restart or ... reload doesn't do this. As of now, I just unplug the USB drive, and commect it again, which will force a scan and a mount on that drive. But I want to do force the rescan and remount without unplugging anything, preferably without the user having the know device or drive names.

    For example I want to install the latest version of "numpy". I type the following: "sudo apt-get install python-numpy". When I type this the first time it installs something and if I type this the second time it writes that I have already the latest version of numpy. However, I see that my version of numpy is 1.1.1. and I know that it NOT the latest version. Why it happens and how this problem can be solved? I can find the *tar.gz file with the latest version, I can extract files with the archive and than I need to rune one of the scripts which will be somewhere among the extracted files. But I do not like this way. It is too complicated. I do not know where I should put all these files, I do not know which dependencies I should install before I run the script for the installation of numpy, I do not know where numpy will be put after installation and so on. Is there an easy way to get the latest version of numpy?

    I'm in the process of moving my CD collection into my Amarok library. Mostly, it works great. Sometimes however, the process just hangs forever. The problem seems to occur at random (i. e. often, but not always at the same disk/track) and the consequences range from none (successful after cancel/retry) to Amarok's internal db becoming completely messed up. I would like to investigate and file a proper bug report or find a fix / workaround, but I don't understand how Amarok does the ripping. When all is working, there's a lame process encoding to a temporary file, which appears in my collection once it's finished. When the process hangs, that lame command is still there, but waiting forever for data on stdin, which seems to come from a third process. That seems to be kio_audiocd, but I don't know whether that's correct and what it's supposed to do. What's going on?

  • How to restart RoR services after server has been rebooted

    Update I have been searching around to see what services would possibly need to be restarted in my project after reboot. One of them was thinking sphinx, which I finally got to the point where it logs: [Fri Nov 16 19:34:29.820 2012] [29623] accepting connections But I still cant run searchd or searchd --stop because there was no generated sphinx.conf file in the etc/sphinxsearch for more info refer to this open thread on thinking_sphinx after reboot I then turned to looking into restarting unicorn or thin based on some insight I got. The issue is when I check my gems I see one for thin AND unicorn. But when I try to start either one of them they have no file residing in etc/init.d/ where the nginx and sphinxsearch files reside... Would rebooting totally erase the files for an app server like thin or unicorn? We are hosted on Rackspace running ruby 1.9.2p290 rails (3.2.8, 3.2.7, 3.2.0) nginx/1.1.19 notice that there are gems for unicorn and thin but there is no unicorn.rb or thin.rb in my config folder for my app... I am still super lost if any one can give me some insight on some steps to take to figure this out I would really appreciate it. I made some modifications to a constants file in the config folder (changing some values for arrays that populated some drop down fields), but the app had to be rebooted before those changes would be recognized. The hosting is through Rackspace, we rebooted through the option on their site. I contacted them and checked the status of our server, the port is open and operational. The problem is the app is not running when you go to the address for the site. Then when I put in the ip address of the server it just says "Welcome to Nginx". But in a log files I see: [Thu Nov 15 02:34:37.945 2012] [15916] caught SIGTERM, shutting down [Thu Nov 15 02:34:37.996 2012] [15916] shutdown complete I am not very versed in server side set up. I have also never worked on a Rails project that had to have specific services started before the application will start. Any insight as to how to figure out what services need to be restarted and how to go about restarting them would be greatly appreciated. I feel kind of dead in the water at this point...   • How to get the Three.js import/export scripts into Blender on Ubuntu?

    I have been working with 3D primitives in Three.js, but now I want to import some models. I plan on using Blender, which I have just downloaded with: sudo apt-get install blender However, I was instructed to put the import/export scripts in the .blender/2.62/scripts/addons folder, but it does not exist! .blender/2.62 does exist, but it only has a config folder. The next thing I did is manually changed the script search path in Blender's preferences from // to my homefolder/scripts, which contained the required io_mesh_threejs folder (which, in turn had the .py scripts inside). I saved the changes, restarted Blender, but still nothing: in the menu there is no mention of Three.js at all! What do I do? It would be great if I knew the installation path for Blender, because maybe I could put those scripts there manually. Where should it be installed? He can access most sites but not Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, groups.google.com, etc My server.conf is: local x.x.x.x port 1194 proto udp dev tun ca /etc/openvpn/keys/ca.crt cert /etc/openvpn/keys/server.crt key /etc/openvpn/keys/server.key dh /etc/openvpn/keys/dh1024.pem server 10.8.0.0 255.255.255.0 push "redirect-gateway def1" push "dhcp-option DNS 8.8.8.8" client-to-client keepalive 10 120 comp-lzo persist-key persist-tun status /etc/openvpn/keys/openvpn-status.log verb 4 I can access Youtube etc using SSH Tunnel + SOCKS Proxy, and the Ubuntu server can access all sites. so nothing is wrong with the Ubuntu server. With little information I can provide, I am not looking for a quck solution. How can I debug?
