• Hide script extension

  I have a html form that posts to a python script test.py. If someone tries to access the script directly, it redirects them to the form. I not using a web framework, just straight python cgi programming. My website is hosted on a shared hosting provider that allows me access to a .htaccess file. I wanted to know if there was a way to have the form post to the script and in the address bar show mydomain.com/test/ and not mydomain.com/test.py ? Thanks.

  I desperately need source control to manage projects between more than one developer. A long time ago I used Visual Source Safe and it worked quite well. Can anybody recommend a free substitute? I have the following basic requirements: I need to host the repository on my own server. I do not want extra clutter within my source files, like CVS does. I need proper check in / check out, so that nobody can change a module until I've checked it back in. I don't want / need source code merging / branching. We use Delphi for web development, so many html files, images, sql files, etc. Any recommendations?

  I have a multi-threaded application in C# which tries to write to a TextBox in a Windows.Forms created by another thread. As threads cannot modify what has not been created by them, I was using InvokeRequired as shown on the code below, to solve this problem. public delegate void MessageDelegate(Communication message); void agent_MessageReceived(Communication message) { if (InvokeRequired) { BeginInvoke(new MessageDelegate(agent_MessageReceived), new object[] { message }); } else { TextBox1.Text += message.Body; } } Now I need to do the same for a TextBox in an ASP.NET app, but apparently neither InvokeRequired nor BeginInvoke exist for TextBox in a Web.UI. • Mobile iPhone - Multiple buttons in a row

  Hello all: I'm an iPhone developer, but new to web development. I've done some basic HTML websites and made one in iWeb as well. I'm trying to branch out to actual mobile development now, so I checked out Dashcode. Anyway, I'm trying to put a Call Button, Mail Button, and Map Button in horizontal alignment. I realize that I can add a Column Layout and have two buttons in a row, but that's the most I've gotten. Any ideas? Thanks! Thomas

• How to inform users that webapplication does not support IE6

  I have web application and I do not really care about IE6 users. However I would like to have some kind of feautre that would informe users that they are using IE6 and that their browser is not supported. I was thinking about two possible solutions: pop-out window (probably Javascript) with text informing the user on every page he enters some special page with information, that user would be redirected to whenever he tries to access my application Both solutions will be sufficient, however I would prefer the second one. Probably some magic javascript needs to be involved, can anyone could please provide a solution to this?

In other words When I add widgets to an interface I need them to talk to each other. For example A Click event in one widget should trigger an event in some other widget. • Creating a web-service client directly from the source

  Hi, I am trying to generate the WS client jar directly from the @Webservice class(es). Let's take this example : package com.example.maven.jaxws.helloservice; import javax.jws.WebService; @WebService public class Hello { public String sayHello(String param) { ; return "Hello " + param; } } I can generate a war file and use glassfish to serve this webservice, and from there I can use the glassfish WSDL URL to generate the client sources. What I am trying to do is to skip the glassfish part. From my maven project defining the webservice, I would like to use the jaxws-maven-plugin to create the client classes but I cannot find any way to specify the actual URL of the webservice. • JSON webservice response compression in IIS 7

  Hello! I have trouble with JSON response compression. I look to response headers after uploading website to production server (Windows 2008, IIS 7) and found uncompressed response. Turning on "Enabled static compression" and ""Enable dynamic compression" in IIS control panel does not effect. ASPX pages was responsed gzipped, but webservice response uncompressed. I looked to google, but no answer found about this trouble. Also, I try this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2405595/json-ihttpmodule-compression way (and adding to web.config this module) - but this source is excellent working at development machine with ASP.NET development server (and have seven times response size reduced) and totally ignored at IIS7.   hello, I got a situation over here. We have a .Net application running on intranet ServerA(database/application server). Now we have also implemented the application on a other machine ServerB (application server only,windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0) database is pointed towards serverA. Everything works fine but the problem is we have some web forms where we are allowing some users to attach some files like documents , pdf etc. But the Public users are facing problem with the attachments. • iPhone - Using javascritp to increase font of web view

  i've a webview in my app. It has + and - buttons to increase and decrease the font. When I start the view, the text occupies whole 320 pixels width. I'm following the way mentioned in "http://stackoverflow.com/questions/589177/how-to-increase-font-size-in-uiwebview" I'm seeing the increase and decrease of font. But once the font size increases, text is not occupying full view. It won't occupy whole 320 pixels width. As and when text size increases, the width of final text in web view decreases slowly. Why? How to avoid it?

  I have few web applications run on the Tomcat server. Each application contains its own log4j library copy inside its own war. This allows for separate, flexible logging configuration per application. I also have few shared libraries (kept in Tomcat's shared libraries directory). I would like to have shared library loggers output among with the application (which uses them) loggers output (for example: if application A logs to file a.log, and uses library b.jar, I would like b.jar to log also to the a.log file). The problem is, that the shared libraries are loaded by the shared classloader, which causes that they can't access loggers defined by the applications. Is there any solution for this issue?

  Hello, I have looked for months now, for JavaScript-based HTML editor I can embed onto my web pages to replace a TEXTAREA, but to enable me to edit CODE in a friendly, closer to a real editor, way. All editors I've tried (RadEditor from Telerik, FCKEditor, TinyMCE, etc etc), do not trap the TAB key, very useful when editing HTML code onto a page, to help format the code properly. I'm not talking about syntax highlighting, as that would be an awesome plus. But I am mainly wondering if there is such an editor. I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

  In the past I have primarily built all my web applications using an N-tier architecture, implementing the BLL and DAL layers. Recently, I have started doing some RoR development as well as looking into ASP.NET MVC. I understand the differences between the different architectures(as referenced by some other SO posts), but I can't really think of any reasons why I wouldn't choose an MVC model going forward. Is there any reasons/times in your experience when an MVC architecture would not be suitable, or any reasons why you would choose a BLL/DAL architecture instead?

  I'm not a .NET developer, and I have a feeling this would be trivial for someone who is: I have a C# web application that makes user of the user credentials of the logged in user. Currently it uses the SID which comes from System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().User.Value I need to get either the users UPN login or email address (as defined in active directory) instead of the SID. GetCurrent() returns an object of type WindowsIdentity; looking in the details for WindowsIdentity Members: MSDN: WindowsIdentity Members I can't see anything that looks like it would give me either the UPN or email in there. How can I pull up that information to use, either by feeding the SID into some other function or calling something different in the first place.

• Free internet radio station server software with remote broadcasting?

  I am in the process of creating an internet radio station, but the two djs I have for it are not able to be in one place. I need for them to be able to login to a web based broadcasting session that still has full functionality. They need to be able to broadcast thier live shows with talk and music. The music will be stroed on the server. I have checked out the Broadwave media streaming server from NCH, but ti does not have the ability to login as a dj from a remote computer. I don't have any money for this, so I need it to be free. If this is not possible, I need it to be cheap!

  I'm currently trying to scrape a website that has fairly poorly-formatted HTML (often missing closing tags, no use of classes or ids so it's incredibly difficult to go straight to the element you want, etc.). I've been using BeautifulSoup with some success so far but every once and a while (though quite rarely), I run into a page where BeautifulSoup creates the HTML tree a bit differently from (for example) Firefox or Webkit. While this is understandable as the formatting of the HTML leaves this ambiguous, if I were able to get the same parse tree as Firefox or Webkit produces I would be able to parse things much more easily. The problems are usually something like the site opens a <b> tag twice and when BeautifulSoup sees the second <b> tag, it immediately closes the first while Firefox and Webkit nest the <b> tags. Is there a web scraping library for Python (or even any other language (I'm getting desperate)) that can reproduce the parse tree generated by Firefox or WebKit (or at least get closer than BeautifulSoup in cases of ambiguity).

• Is JAX-RS suitable as a MVC framework?

  JAX-RS has some MVC support, but I wonder if JAX-RS is really a good choice to build web application for human use. If a user enters wrong or incomplete information in a form, it should be displayed again like with Grails or Wicket. Is there a comfortable way to do this with JAX-RS? As far as I know the URI mapping doesn't work correctly, if not all required parameters are given or there are type conversion problems (with Date for example). Is that correct? Is there support for internationalized templates?

  for development of interactive 3d web applications, which engine is recommended? I am aware that WebGL has been anounced to become standarized for all browsers in the near future (1~2 years). I am afraid that by investing time into a proprietary game engine such as Unity, torque would be not great once plugin-less open source 3d engines appear (webgl & 3D javascript).   I am working with a web page (ASP.net 3.5) that is very complicated and in certain circumstances has major performance issues. It uses Ajax (through the Telerik AjaxManager) for most of its functionality. I would like to be able to measure in some way the amounts of time for the following, for each request: On client submitting request to server Client-to-Server On server initializing request On server processing request Server-to-Client Client rendering, JavaScript processing I have monitored the database traffic and cannot find any obvious culprit. On the other hand, I have a suspicion that some of the Ajax interactions are causing performance issues. However, until I have a way to track the times involved, make a baseline measurement, and measure performance as I tweak, it will be hard to work on the issue. So what is the best way to measure all of these? Is there one tool that can do it? Combination of FireBug and logging inserted into different places in the page life-cycle?

• Web setup project removes files after upgrade from VS2008 to VS2010

  I have a web setup project built using VS2008. I've converted my solution to VS2010 and now when I build my new installer and run the install from the MSI it installs fine, then at the last step, removes all the files it's just installed. I have RemovePreviousVersions set to true. If I turn this off the files remain in place (but I get multiple instances in the Programs and Features in the control panel). If I run the install again, the files reappear. From then on, the files always remain, even when installing another version. So, the problem seems to be with running an installer built using VS2008 and then running the same installer built by VS2010. The upgrade GUIDs on each installer are the same. What is the cause and how can I fix this?

  Web app runs on Tomcat. Datasource is configured with Spring configuration, and is used by Hibernate. If we cannot use JNDI, what would you suggest to use as a DataSource? org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource will be ok? It's not very good, but sincerely speaking, it can be used on production server, right? Just a bit of headache with too frequent connection reopening. Also, we can use BasicDataSource from Apache. It's much better of course, but here's the question. IF WE DON'T USE JNDI, THEN: If every instance of an app will create its own copy of a DataSource, and every DataSource can have 5 open connections, what do we get? Num_of_running_apps * Num_of_max_active_connections = max active open connection on a DB for this user? Second question: from the perspective of Hibernate, is there any difference about what datasource implementation is used? Will it work with no matter what datasource perfectly and in a stable way?

Both allow you to build your application from components in Java. They both look very similar to me. What are the differences between those two frameworks? Has someone experience in both? Specifically: How is their performance, how much can state handling be customized, can they be used stateless? What is the difference in their component model? What would you choose for which applications? How do they integrate with Guice, Spring, JSR 299? Edit: I have read the documentation for both and I have used both. The questions cannot be answered sufficently from reading the documentation, but from the experience from using these for some time, e.g. how to use Wicket in a stateless mode for high performance sites.
