• Can Windows-Security-SPP block execution of .exe?

  We're seeing a strange situation, where some executables won't run from a Windows command prompt (running as admin). Just running the command (say, filename.exe) gives no response on the console. No errors, no output, nothing. If we copy over the same Windows .exe from a different folder, it "magically" starts working, and we see the default console output. (Happens both on Win7 x64, and Win2008R2 x64. Application is running as 32-bit process.) At the time when it accesses the .exe, I can see events in the application and system logs regarding Windows-Security-SPP, and it makes me believe that the .exe is being blocked from execution. Does this sound familiar?

• What is this jumper for on my new motherboard?

  I am building a new PC, I just got my motherboard in the mail today. It is a ASRock X58 Extreme 3. I am reading over the manual for it and one of the jumpers says this. There is a 3 pin jumper labeled 1 2 3, with pins 1 and 2 shorted by default it is "+5v" If I manually change it to short jumper pins 2 and 3 instead of 1 and 2 then it will be "+5vSB (standby) for PS/2 or USB wake up events. So I am confused as to exactly what this is for. Can someone explain what it means, why I would want one other the other?

  I'm not really an Office Communications Server expert, but just trying to resolve some seemingly minor issues with a new install... The following error is occurring in the OCS event log, and when I try to visit https://servername:444/LiveServer/MCUFactory in Internet Explorer to test the address, I just get a "page cannot be displayed" error. I can telnet to port 444 on the server and verify that the port is open and listening. Any ideas? • Default Document not posting for IIS 7

  I am using URL rerouting in Asp.net 4.0 and my default page for the site is \home where user's can log in the app.So when the users type in my site's url i.e www.domain.com cause of the defualt page config which I have it gets redirected to my home.aspx page which is mapped on my global.asax as \home. Now all the log in request i.e Post request coming from www.domain.com are failing no events are being fired on the server. Where as if I try www.domain.com\home then things starts working I am able to log on. I had read a similar issue but still am confused about the solution http://forums.iis.net/t/1164877.aspx , this used to work fine on IIS 6 but on IIS 7 such a scenario started happening. Am I missing some configuration , please help.

• Problems accessing FileZilla FTP Server from static IP

  I'm trying to connect to my FTP server from my external IP address on Comcast Business. On the gateway I've set up port-forwarding on ports 20-21 to my server. Additionally I've forwarded ports 7000-8000 to my server for use in passive mode. In my FileZilla Server application I've set up passive mode to use my static IP and to use the subset of ports listed above. Unfortunately, it doesn't work through the external static IP for some reason, but I can internally. When I try to connect through static IP, the FileZila monitor says Connected, sending welcome message.... 220 FileZillaServer version 0.9.37 beta could not send reply, disconnected My firewall doesn't register any block events and windows firewall is disabled. What am I doing wrong or missing?

• Windows Server 2008 (sp2) stops responding on network share requests from Windows Vista and 7 client

  I have two Windows Server 2008 SP2 machines (TFS and TFSBUILD). Periodically, the TFSBUILD server shares (\TFSBUILD\ShareName or \TFSBUILD\C$) become unresponsive to requests from Windows Vista (Server 2008) and Windows 7 client requests. Windows XP machines are still able to connect. No events in the server log indicate any problem. A simple restart corrects the issue temporarily, but it always returns. No, it is not this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976266 (we aren't using that software). All anti-virus software has been disabled, firewall is disabled by policy. No other network activity is affected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello I'm constructing 5ESX+a vCenter serv. I'm testing FT on the system. Today vCenter OS (W2008) demanded system reboot. After rebooting vCenter Serv. All of ESX hosts have alert icon. end indicate "not responding" I tried to connect ESX (version 4) hosts to vCenter again. Once they came back normally, but after few seconds ,They turned red again. All of them have ping connection to vCenter serv. There are no red messages in Tusks and events. Two messages are found in Summary of Cluster ·There aren't sufficient resource for HA failover. ·Can't contact primary HA agent. I'm also not able to reset FT configuration because all of VMS aren't accessed from vCenter What should I do?

  I understand that in my vimrc I can add autocmd, and I can group them into augroup. Once they are grouped, what can I do with the group? Specifically, is there a way to disable the whole group at once? Looking at the help, I only see two options: augroup! will delete the whole group: I don't think this is right since I will want to re-enable it again. Searching for "aucmd" and "disable" brings up eventignore, but this looks like it's for specific events like CursorMoved, BufWinLeave, etc. and not the command or the group itself. How is this done?

• VSS error 12293 after system disk clone (Win2003)

  Hi! After cloning a windows 2003 installation from a single drive onto two mirrored drives using Acronis Disk Director, VSS no longer works, filing events 12293 and 7001 when trying to use backup tools, and additionally giving error 0x8004230f when accessing the Shadow copy tab of disk properties. I've google-researched this quite throughly, and found a suggested fix[1]: replacing the MBR signature of the disk. This would cause windows to invalidate old shadow copy information, which supposedly would make it all work again. However, I am a bit nervous over this... Is there a possiblity of messing this up somehow, because of the mbr originating from a single disk install, and now residing on a raid mirror? Has anyone here had this problem and solved it? • Update mysql database with arpwatch textfile database

  I'm looking to keep arpwatch entries in a mysql database to crossreference with other information I'm storing based on mac addresses. I've manually imported the arpwatch database into my mysql database, but being a novice with databases I'm not sure what the best way to continually update the database with new entries without creating duplicates would be. None of the fields can be unique, as even the time is duplicated frequently. I'm not interested in the actual arpwatch events like flip flop or new station, just the mac/ip/time pairings. Would a simple bash (or sql) shell script do the trick? Would it be possible to make the mac address plus the time be a composite key of some sort? the database is called utility, table is arpwatch, columns are mac, ip, time a seperate table named 'hosts' with columns mac, ip, type, hostname, location, notes has mac as the primary key. This table will correlate different ip addresses that a mac had over time using the arpwatch column initial import was done with MySQL Workbench using INSERT INTO commands with creative search and replace on the text file

  Hi, I know this is not programming related. But I can't find any topics on Google or UbuntuForums. So the problem is: When gnome-screensaver starts on the moment Eclipse has the focus and I wake up again my laptop, Eclipse doesn't listen to keyboard-events. To solve this I have to change the focus to another program and then back to Eclipse. Than it works again. This isn't a real problem, but it would be nice if someone can solve it. Thanks

• Slow IE8 Start-up due to LDAP DNS queries

  Recently (in the last few days), my installation of IE8 has been taking 15 to 20 seconds to load my home page. Specifically, the sequence of events (as reported by WireShark) is:- Browser issues a DNS A query to resolve the home page server's IP address. Browser then spends the next 15-20 seconds broadcasting DNS SRV _LDAP._TCP queries, (roughly on a 2 second tick) to which it receives no answer (we have no LDAP servers). Browser re-issues the DNS A query and resolves the server's IP address again. Finally, the browser issues an HTTP GET for the home page. Does anyone know why this is happening? • ubuntu 10.04 logs itself out overnight

  Every night when I leave work, I lock the screen via ubuntu's "power" button in the top right hand panel. When I come to work in the morning, I'm greeted with the log-in screen. • How can I find the program making a harmonica sound?

  A friend has a Windows XP SP3 machine that plays a harmonica sound for about 5 seconds throughout the day at what seems to be random intervals (every couple hours). My question is how can I find the program making this sound? Is there a Windows API hook for monitoring audio access? I've gone through and checked all the standard Windows sounds in the Control Panel and right now the theme is set to no sounds and I personally checked to make sure none of the events have a sound specified. I also checked the Task Scheduler to make sure there wasn't something scheduled to go off every couple hours. Any ideas on how to go about finding the bugger?

• EC2 instance suddenly refusing SSH connections and won't respond to ping

  My instance was running fine and this morning I was able to access a Ruby on Rails app hosted on it. An hour later I suddenly wasn't able to access my site, my SSH connection attempts were refused and the server wasn't even responding to ping. I didn't change anything on my system during that hour and reboots aren't fixing it. I've never had any problems connecting or pinging the system before. Can someone please help?
