  • Can't connect to windows via ssh

    I downloaded cygwin and ran ssh-host-config. I'm trying to connect using ssh -l micah myserver it then says micah@myserver's password: I enter the same password I use to log into windows and it says Permission Denied, please try again. After the third try it says: Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive). What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Do I need to generate an ssh key on the client and add it somewhere on the server?

    So I just upgraded my system to the Windows 7 RTM, and I've noticed they took away the ability to customize the shortcuts in the Games Explorer. Is there a third-party application that would allow me to customize the shortcuts without having to do so manually? I know how to do it, but it's a pain, and I'd rather have a GUI do the dirty work for me.

    At work and home, I use Server 2003 with Windows Shares. We also have a couple of Netgear ReadyNAS appliances at work, managed via the web interface. Is there a built-in Web Interface for managing Shares, or a free one available - for use in Server 2003 (or 2008)? The reason I ask is that it would be good to manage the Shares via the Web, rather then RDP onto the Server each time - and would allow other users to treat it as a NAS.

    I have recently installed windows 8 however i have found that when i try to look through the languages i cannot find the english version so i am now stuck trying to read french until i find out how to do it.     Has any one got a solution to this problem. I have installed windows 7 pro and installed audio (coexant) latest driver from the lenovo web site but it still does not work. I have seen many similar posts but no solution - just the usual - do you have the most recent driver.... etc. Is there any one that has solved this problem out there?     Hello, I am using virtualBox with windows datacenter to play around with some web development. The last time I had to shut down the computer, it installed an update and shut down normally. When I rebooted, it started doing a checkdisk and processed a bunch of files (from hard poweroffs before mabey). Now when I start, I get a bluescreen of death every time it loads (Safe mode,etc) I have googled around for a boot / recovery disk, but can't seem to find one for datacenter. Cheers -Will

    Hi all. I've been very impressed with agent-based / SaaS-like monitoring services such as Scout and Server Density. They both provide very nice trending, alerting, and reporting capabilities for my *nix boxes, and I need to find something similar for Windows. Can anyone out there recommend such a tool? It is important that this tool is a centralized service in line with the aforementioned products, as the deployment environment is owned by a lean team with limited resources. Thanks!

  • installing SNMP in Windows x32 Customized Image

    I'm working in a environment of 40 machines, I've already installed snmp in 38 machines normally, but 2 of them appear to have been installed with a customized windows image, there is no OptionalFeatures, there is no ocsetup.exe, so I could not able to install SNMP. I tried to copy OptionalFeatures and ocsetup from another machine, but it don't work. For now I cannot simple format these two computer, it's possible to install it using another way?     Tomcat 6 (as a windows service) seems to have a 'Start Mode' with options of 'java, jvm or exe' which can be set via the Tomcat Monitor (system tray icon). if I set this to 'java', I can see a forked 'java.exe' process for tomcat, if I chose either of the other two, I dont see a separate process. Anyway, would like to know if anyone has any information about what these settings mean and which one would be most appropriate in production.

I have more than enough space (250GB harddrive, 150GB free) I have tried doing a full defrag with iDefrag I don't want to reformat my drive I have tried partitioning in safe mode I have repaired all Disk Permissions using Disk Utility Any suggestions?     I would prefer to set up our DFS such as: \domain.local\users \domain.local\customers \domain.local\support etc. Is this a problem? Do I need to instead set all of the above folders as targets under a root such as: \domain.local\files\users \domain.local\files\customers \domain.local\files\support Other than the path being shorter in the top example, which is what I would prefer, is there a difference in functionality in Windows DFS between the two examples shown? I want a Windows PC to refer to a local file (I can serve it from a web server at localhost if needed) when it attempts to fetch a certain remote file via HTTP. However, I need other files from that particular remote web server to be fetched as usual. Any help appreciated.
