• OpenVPN Bridge on pfsense: once LAN pings clients, connectivity breaks

  So I'm using a pfsense openvpn to bridge my LAN segment so VPN users can access the servers. The problem I'm having now is that I can establish a connection, I can ping the LAN server from the VPN, but as soon as I ping the client from the LAN server, there is no connectivity anymore between both parties. So: connect from the VPN client to the LAN = works ping the LAN from the VPN client = works access server from the VPN (ssh, ftp,...) = works ping client from server = doesn't work ping LAN from the VPN client = doesn't work anymore My bridge has em1 and ovpns1 bridged. I noted with tcpdump that ICMP is reaching the bridge between LAN and the VPN segment. But it's not put onto the em1 interface for some reason. My pfsense is running on an ESXi host with th vSwitch port enabled in promiscious mode. Firewall rules allow in and outbound traffic regardless origin or destination.

• Cross Apply Ambiguity

  Cross apply (and outer apply)  are a very welcome addition to the TSQL language.  However, today after a few hours of head scratching, I have found an simple issue which could cause big big problems. What would you expect from this statement ? select * from sys.objects b join sys.objects a on a.object_id = object_id No prizes for guessing SQL server errors with “Ambiguous column name 'object_id'”. What would you expect from this statement ? Select * from sys.objects a cross apply( Select * from sys.objects b where b.object_id = object_id) as c Surprisingly, perhaps, the result is a cross join of sys.objects.  Well, what happened there ? If you look at the apply statement, within the where clause, only one of the conditions is qualified with a table name.  This meant that is has be interpreted as “b.object_id = b.object_id” causing the cross apply to have no join the the parent sys.objects table and causing the cross join. The fix is , obviously, simple Select * from sys.objects a cross apply( Select * from sys.objects b where b.object_id = a.object_id) as c So why no “Ambiguous column name ” error ?  I’ve raised a connect item on this issue here.

  i just installed 12.04, plug in E160 and nothing happend - modem doesnt mount. i found this solution : Ubuntu does not mount some Huawei devices due to bugs, problems etc. See if these work: 1st option: Connect the USB modem. • What could cause Citrix Xenapp to stop streaming applications after the server's IP address changed?

  We have a Citrix XenApp 5.0 server running on Windows 2008, and today we moved ISPs so our IP addresses changed. The IP addresses have propagated, the XenApp server is running, and internally we can connect to the server, choose an app, and have it streamed without issue. Externally we are only able to authenticate to the server and choose an app, but the app never launches in the client. I'm guessing there's a hand-off between the part of XenApp that authenticates a user and shows what apps they can launch, and the part that does the app streaming, and that second part is hard-coded to use an the old ip address. Any ideas why this could be happening?

• VPN and Bonjour conflicting

  Does anyone know why a VPN connection might interfere with Apple's Bonjour? I've noticed that my Mac and various iDevices have trouble finding each other on my local network, when I have VPN connections open. Things like Home Sharing and Wi-Fi Sync work some of the time, but sometimes fail to find the other device. The VPN connections are made using IPSecuritas, which is a GUI around raccoon. I have the local "endpoint mode" set to Host. Apple mentions that Home Sharing may conflict with VPNs, but they don't specify why, or how to fix it. I'm using a Mac with OS 10.7.3 and IPSecuritas to connect to the VPN, an iPhone, and an iPad.

  I have two wireless ADSL routers sitting right next to each other, each with his own internet connection. I'd like to be able to connect to a computer that is connected to router A from a computer that is connected to router B, while keeping both routers internet connection individually. i.e. If computer A is connected to router A, it will use router A internet connection, and a second computer, call it B, will be connected to router B, and will use router B internet connection. Is this possible?

  Karmic only has mumble 1.1.8, but if I want to connect to a 1.2 server I need to upgrade... So I would like to know how I can upgrade to mumble 1.2.2 without messing myself up for later when I upgrade to 10.04 and beyond... I just want a smooth transition into the next versions of mumble. Is there anyway to upgrade to this newer version and either keep it in the package manager or make it not interfere with the natural upgrades the program will later recieve from the package manager? • Wireless Network Connection gets dropped at times under Windows 7

  I have running Windows 7 on my hp laptop with 802.11n wifi adapter. Some times, I lost wireless internet connection. Under the 'Wireless Connection' when I click the notification area, it said 'my home network is 'connected'... But in the header 'currently Connected to' it said 'no internet access' instead of 'internet access' I can 'fix' my problem by going to the 'wireless connection' my home network, click 'disconnect' and then click 'connect'. And when it comes back up, it gets connected again. any idea how can i fix this problem? Thank you.

  I think the steps are something like: Install DD-WRT on a router with an external hard-drive Install Optware to get Samba Upgrade to Samba 3.6 (the link shows Samba 3.5, but using the NSLU2 optware packages, you can get 3.6 with built-in SMB2.0) ...then a miracle occurs... Then you can use SMB2.0 to connect to your share What is step 4? I can't find it on forums, etc. Am using Microsoft Network monitor to check for SMB2.0 connection, I'm on Windows 7 and have tried network connections on wireless and gigabit wired to the router. • Linux and GEForge 8400 dual monitor

  I'm trying to install a linux distribution on my PC. I have a GEForce 8400 GS with two connected monitors. I tried with fedora 12 and ubuntu 9.1 (both 64 and 32 bit) and the live cd cannot boot properly. I don't get a visible error on ubuntu, it simply hang up during the boot. With fedora I get this erro: [drm] Modeset on unsupported output type [drm] Table 0x0000 not found for 1/1 using first I tried to disconnect one of the two monitor and was able to install on my HD and boot from there, but if I try to connect the second monitor again I cannot boot. Have I to install something else? (a driver for my video card for example).

• Configuration of Sonicwall Load Balancing

  We installed a Sonicwall NSA 240 appliance and have configured it up for our SSL VPN connection and for load balancing with 2 ADSL lines. Over the past week, I have been testing the load balancing options to optimize the connection speeds for our users - but I've run into the following: Round Robin load balancing is the ideal load balancing setting and it's roughly doubling our throughput- but, when it's active users are unable to access any SSL enabled websites such as banking, web-mail, etc. For this reason, I have been using percentage based balancing as it allows me to enable source and destination IP binding, which doesn't 'break' any secure connections but were left with the slow connection speeds we had before adding the second line. I'm looking for a method in which we can take advantage of the round robin connection speeds while allowing users to access sites with SSL certificates, all while still allowing our remote (vpn) users to connect.   Beginning with the Primavera Reporting Database 2.2\P6 Analytics 1.2 release, the first release that supported the P6 Extended Schema, a new ability was added to filter which projects could be included during an ETL run. In previous releases, all projects were included in an ETL run. Additionally, all projects with the option to enable publication are included in the ETL run by default.Because the reporting needs for P6 Extended Schema are different from those of STAR, you can define a filter that will limit the data that is included in the STAR schema. For example, your STAR schema can be filter to only include all projects in a specific Portfolio, or all projects with a project code assignment of 'For Analytics.'  Any criteria that can be defined in a Where clause and added to a view can be used to filter the projects included in the STAR schema. I highly suggest this approach when dealing with large databases. Unnecessary projects could cause the Extract portion of the ETL process to take longer. A table in STAR called etl_projectlist is the key for what projects are targeted during the ETL process. To setup the filter, perform the following steps:1. Connect to your Primavera P6 Project Management Database as Pxrptuser (extended schema owner) and create a new view:create or replace view star_project_viewasselect PROJECTOBJECTID objectidfrom projectportfolio pp, projectprojectportfolio pppwhere pp.objectid = ppp.PROJECTPORTFOLIOOBJECTIDand pp.name = 'STAR Projects'--The main field that MUST be selected in the view is the projectobjectid. Selecting any other field besides the projectobjectid will cause the view to be invalid and will not work. Any Where clause can be used, but projectobjectid is the key.2. In your STAR installation directory go the \res folder and edit the staretl.properties file.  Here you will define the view to be used.  Add the following line or update if exists:star.project.filter.ds1=star_project_view3. When running the  staretl.cmd or staretl.sh process the database link to Pxrtpuser will be accessed and this view will be used to populate the etl_projectlist table  with the appropriate projectobjectids as defined in the view created in step 1 above.

• Server not sending a SYN/ACK packet in response to a SYN packet

  Using iptraf, tcpdump and wireshark I can see a SYN packet coming in but only the ACK FLAG is set in reply packet. I'm running Debian 5 with kernel 2.6.36 I've turned off window_scaling and tcp_timestamps, tcp_tw_recycle and tcp_tw_reuse: cat /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle = 0 net.ipv4.tcp_tw_reuse = 0 net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling = 0 net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 0 I've attached an image of the wireshark output. http://imgur.com/pECG0.png Output to netstat netstat -natu | grep '72.23.130.104' tcp 0 0 97.107.134.212:18000 72.23.130.104:42905 SYN_RECV I've been doing everything possible to find a solution and have yet to figure out the problem, so any help/suggestions are much appreciated. • Direct DB to Web Server connection

  I have a database server sitting right underneath a virtual machine host server in the rack, and this vm host is primarily responsible for servers hosting a couple different web sites and app servers that all talk to databases on the other server. Right now both servers are connected to the same switch, and I'm pretty happy with the pathing. However, both servers also have an unused network port. I wondering about the potential benefits of using a short crossover or normal+auto mdix network cable to connect these two servers together directly. Is this a good idea, or would I be doing something that won't show much benefit and is just likely to trip up a future admin who's not looking for this? The biggest weakness I can see right now is that this would likely require a code change for each vm app to point to the new IP of the database server on this private little network, and if I have a problem with the virtual machine host and have to spin up it's guests elsewhere while I fix it I'll have to change this back before things will work.

• The current state of a MERGE Destination for SSIS

  Hugo Tap asked me on Twitter earlier today whether or not there existed a SSIS Dataflow Destination component that enabled one to MERGE data into a table rather than INSERT it. Its a common request so I thought it might be useful to summarise the current state of play as regards a MERGE destination for SSIS. Firstly, there is no MERGE destination component in the box; that is, when you install SSIS no MERGE Destination will be available. That being said the SSIS team have made available a MERGE destination component via Codeplex which you can get from http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/19048. I have never used it so cannot vouch for its usefulness although judging by some of the reviews you might not want to set your expectations too high. Your mileage may vary.   In the past it has occurred to me that a built-in way to provide MERGE from the SSIS pipeline would be highly valuable. I assume that this would have to be provided by the database into which you were merging hence in March 2010 I submitted the following two requests to Connect: BULK MERGE (111 votes at the time of writing) [SSIS] BULK MERGE Destination (15 votes) If you think these would be useful feel free to vote them up and add a comment. • Is there a VNC server for mac with decent international keyboard support?

  Hi, I'm having trouble finding a VNC server for Mac OS X that allows me to connect from a Windows box with German keyboard layout. I've tried the built-in desktop sharing and several versions of Vine but all of them had problems with several keys. Does maybe anyone know about a working combination of a Mac OS X VNC server and Windows VNC client which properly supports a German keyboard layout on the client? Update: I don't think the Windows client is the problem, because I have no issues connecting to Linux boxes. And I've tried several different clients.

• KVM Guest not reachable from host

  Hello, I'm running Ubuntu server 9.10, installed KVM etc. Created the bridge network following instructions on help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking Created a windows 2008 guest using virt-install command line (using virt-manager GUI from a remote Ubuntu desktop would not let me select the ISO location). I can however use a remote virt-manager to connect to the guest and complete the windows install. Within windows 2008 I changed the IP address but cannot ping from outside world. The bridge network appears fine - I'm not sure what else to look at!   I've got a value associated to each day, as such: 120530 70.1 120531 69.0 120601 69.2 120602 69.5 # and so on for 200 lines When plotting this data in gnuplot with lines, the data points are nicely connected. Unfortunately, at places over a week of data points can be missing. Gnuplot draws long lines over these intervals. How can I make gnuplot only connect points on consecutive days? Solutions that require preprocessing of the data are fine, as I already smooth it with a script. • How to FTP via CLI? [closed]

  So I have a Debian machine and I want to transfer data on here to a Windows based FTP account. I've managed to open up firewalling for outbound FTP on the Debian source, but have never used FTP via CLI before. Does anyone know how I can go about transferring data? I am starting to get really confused with what to transfer from where. If I ssh to the Debian machine and then connect to the Windows FTP account, then try put and get commands, it never seems to recognise the path of the source files on the Debian machine.

  I am using an iMac to share a wired network connection with other devices in my house. I am using Apple's built-in sharing functionality which works very well. I have also been using Tunnelblick as an OpenVPN client. The two technologies work great when they are not used together. The moment I connect to my VPN, sharing stops working on all other devices; the whole point of this setup was for me to share my VPN connection. Is there a way to make Internet connection sharing and OpenVPN work together on the Mac? I am using Snow Leopard.

• router cannot get ip address

  Hi guys, I have a linksys router WRT54G2 connected to a cable broadband. Just last week, everything was working perfectly - I would be able to connect my laptop to the internet using WiFi. However, starting last week, I suddenly lost my internet connection. At first I thought something was wrong with my ISP. However, when I tried connecting the cable directly to my laptop, I found out that there was no problem with the internet connection after all. It appears that it is only my router that cannot get IP address. I have already tried cloning my MAC address and reconfiguring my router using the setup CD, but nothing worked. • Crossover cable in addition to normal network connection on servers?

  I have 2 servers, both with Windows 2003 R2 Each have 2 NIC ports that are 10/100/1000 They are both connected to our LAN + joined to the domain (1 NIC port free on each server) The problem is that our main router is only 10/100 on the ports that these servers are connected to. Since one server is going to host SQL 2005 and the other will be running Altiris NS7, I was hoping that I could use a crossover cable to connect the two directly, thus taking advantage of their 1gbps NIC cards. Is this possible? If so what steps do I need to take to accomplish this? What needs to be done to make sure that when the app server is communicating with the SQL server that it is using the direct link vs traversing the LAN? Thanks a lot!

  I have a Netgear WNA1100 usb wifi adapter. I have installed Atheros driver from Forum Details (btw name of the file is ath9k_htc-installer.1.0.1-maverick-fixed.deb). I wish to make a setup like connectify(windows) on ubuntu, so that I can connect my phone wirelessly to my laptop via Netgear WNA1100 (behaving as AP) and eventually use internet via my wired lan. I have installed the above mentioned driver, hostapd and hostap-utils. Following is my hostapd.conf file. ssid=vks interface=wlan1 # The interface name of the card driver=ath9k_htc # The card driver macaddr_acl=0 accept_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.accept deny_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.deny ieee80211x=1 # Use 802.1X authentication auth_algs=1 ignore_broadcast_ssid=0 wpa=2 wpa_passphrase=88888888 wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK wpa_pairwise=TKIP rsn_pairwise=CCMP When i run sudo hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf I get an error invalid/unknown driver 'ath9k_htc # The card driver I think the driver is installed fine, as i can see the blue led blinking on the netgear adapter, which was not blinking earlier. Can someone please guide me how to achieve this setup? I will appreciate an example hostapd.conf file with a simple wpa_psk security setup. Please be detailed and descriptive with commands. How to run and end it. Following is output from lsmod, i have only pasted the entries which had ath and ath related info. Which driver shall i use.
