• Rails 3.1 assets not recognizing new images uploaded by rmagick until server restart

  I have my Rails 3.1.0 application running with passenger in production environment and I have a section where the application allows the user to change his profile picture so I upload the image using an ajax uploader and in my controller I upload the file and generate different sizes for the image with rmagick then I render the new image with an image_tag but the application won't show the image till I restart the server. What I get is No route matches [GET] "assets/path/to/image.png" If I restart the server It will show the image, but obviously I can't be restarting the server every once a user uploads a new image. How can I solve the keeping the assets working the right way?

• Routing classic asp through an MVC application

  We are starting to convert a large classic asp application into MVC (using C#). An additional requirement is, that all classic routes get "translated" to MVC ones ('mydomain.com/productdetail.asp?id=13' should become 'mydomain.com/products/13') even before we start writing the first controller or view. So basically, we want to use the routing from MVC but have the classic asp handle the response. An these are my questions: How to use the new nice urls but have the classic asp handle the construction of the html result? Within the classic asp page, the new MVC url pattern should be used for links. What is the best way of translating the old urls to the new ones and make the accessible within the classic asp site (using COM I guess). When an old/classic url is requested, how would I correctly handle that request so that browsers/searchengines would understand that the page has moved to the new url? Thanks in advance!

• Variable 'app' in url-pattern for servlet mapping

  I'm learning Spring MVC (and servlets in general) and following springsource's mvc-ajax example, which uses annotated controller methods. It appears that there is only one url-pattern (in web.xml) mapped to a servlet in that example: /app/* I've deployed the app as a WAR file, and the actual, ugly URL I'm requesting is http://127.0.0.1:8080/org.springframework.samples.mvc.ajax-1.0.0-20100407.233245-1/account. So, it appears that 'app' in '/app/*' is a variable corresponding to 'org.springframework.samples.mvc.ajax-1.0.0-20100407.233245-1', however, it isn't universal because it isn't usable in my own app, and it contradicts my understanding that url-pattern contains the portion of the URL after the app name. So, what is 'app'? Where is it configured?

  I can't get spring annotations to work at all, I'm just trying to get the simplest thing to work... .../mycontext/something - invokes method: @RequestMapping(value = "/something") @ResponseBody public String helloWorld() { System.out.println("hello world"); return "Hello World"; } My main problem is no matter how hard I try, I can't find a complete SIMPLE example of the configuration files needed, every spring tutorial is filled with junk, I just one one controller to handle a request with a mapping and can't get it to work does anyone know of a simple and complete spring example. pet-clinic is no good, it's way too complicated, I have a tiny basic use case and it's proving to be a real pain to get working (this always happens with Spring)

• Save entity with entity framework

  Hi, I'm saving entities/records with the EF, but i'm curious if there is another way of doing it. I receive a class from a MVC controller method, so basicly i have all the info: the class's properties, including the primary key. Without EF i would do a Sql update (update table set a=b, c=d where id = 5), but with EF i got no further than this: Get an object with ID of 5 Update the (existing) object with the new object Submitchanges. What bothers me is that i have to get the object from the database first, where i have all the info to do an update statement. Is there another way of doing this?

As far as I can tell: Controller: deals with routing requests View: deals with presentation of data Model: looks a whole lot like a Data Access layer Where does the Business Logic go? Take a large enterprise application with: Several different sources of data (WCF, WebServices and ADO) tied together in a data access layer (useing multiple different DTOs). A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? The example I have seen where everything just goes in the Model folder don't seem like they are appropriate for very large applications. Thanks for any advice!

• Using LINQ to search a byte array for all subarrays that start/stop with certain byte

  I'm dealing with a COM port application and we have a defined variable-length packet structure that I'm talking to a micro-controller with. The packet has delimiters for the start and stop bytes. The trouble is that sometimes the read buffer can contain extraneous characters. It seems like I'll always get the whole packet, just some extra chatter before/after the actual data. So I have a buffer that I append data to whenever new data is received from the COM port. What is the best way to search this buffer for any possible occurrences of my packet? For example: Say my packet delimiter is 0xFF and I have an array as such { 0x00, 0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF, 0x04 } How can I create a function/LINQ-statment that returns all subarrays that start and end with the delimiter (almost like a sliding-correlator with wildcards)? The sample would return the following 3 arrays: {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF}, {0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}, and {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}

• ipad dev - in the UISplitViewController template, how is the method setDetailItem called?

  I am developing an ipad app which has a UISplitViewController. (I use IB to build the interface, but I do not use the template) Both master and detail (left and right) views are navigationController. The left view subclass UITableView and the right view should push another controller if the cell on the left is selected. I don't know how to make my detail view responds to my master view. Also, in the template, the detailViewController has a id detailItem and a method setDetailItem. How are these two connected? I cannot see any connection between but setDetailItem is called when detailViewController.detailItem is being called. Thanks in advance.

• AppDelegate viewController memory leak?

  I am just curious with regards to the correct way to create a view controller programatically. When I compile this code with the static analyser I get a leak (as you would expect) from the alloc. • Adding childs to list of parents with jquery /mvc2

  Hi, I have a table of products on my page, each product has zero or more colors, the colors are shown as a list beneath the product. After the colors I have a button to add a color. The button will do an ajax call with the parent product id to a controller which will return a JSON object with color information. My problem is where to store the product id in the DOM, should I put it in a hidden field and use jquery in the click event of the "add color" to get to it? What is the best way to do this? TIA, John EDIT: The page is initially rendered on the server so I don't want to use jquery to add the id's to the page.

• Binding Many-to-Many Core Data relationships in UI

  Basically my setup is this. I have a many-to-many relationship in Core Data where a student entity can have multiple courses, and a course entity can have multiple students. My problem is in trying to figure out how to bind this relationship to the UI in Interface Builder. I want to be able to add courses to a course array controller, then have those courses displayed in a popup menu in a NSTableView in the Edit Student window where you can add courses to a student. • PHP - Cannot use Heredoc within a class method?

  I'm writing the code for a controller method and I need to use it to send an email. I'm trying to use heredoc syntax to fill in the email body, however, the closing tag doesn't seem to be recognized. $this->email = new Email(); $this->email->from = 'Automated Email'; $this->email->to = '[email protected]'; $this->email->subject = 'A new user has registered'; $this->email->body = <<<EOF Hello, a new user has registered. EOF; $this->email->send(); Everything from the opening <<< EOF down (till the end of the file) is displayed as if it was in quotes. Can anyone see why this is not working? Any advice appreciated. • No method found compiler warning

  I have create a class from a string, check it is valid and then check if it responds to a particular method. If it does then I call the method. It all works fine, except I get an annoying compiler warning: "warning: no '-setCurrentID:' method found". Am I doing something wrong here? Is there anyway to tell the compiler all is ok and stop it reporting a warning? • Decoration View *above* cells in UICollectionView

  I've got a decoration view showing the way I want, in my UICollectionView. The position and size is right. The decoration view stays at the frame I'm setting for it in my layout. But, I want the decoration view to be above the cells, not below them. I tried setting the zIndex property on the UICollectionViewLayoutAttributes for the decoration view, but this has no effect - I tried logging out the zindex of the cells, and they're all returning 0, and my decoration view's zIndex is set to 20. I'm guessing having decoration views above the cells is not supported, at least in UICollectionViewFlowLayout? Someone please confirm this, thanks! In the meantime, I'm going back to having a custom UIView subclass as a subview in the parent controller of the collection view and laying out the frame of it in the - (void) viewWillLayoutSubviews() method.

• How to get "paster request" to use config host value instead of localhost?

  I'm trying to access my pylons application via cron job to send notifications to my users. The way I'm doing this is by running the application using something like: paster request myconfig.ini /maintenance/do In the actual controller I check for the "paste.command_request" to block public access. Everything works but the only problem is that within the notifications that I send to my users there is a link to their profile and the host is "localhost" which should instead be the domain name of the application. When the notifications are sent from within the served application (say, a user modifies their settings on the site) the notifications have the correct url. I am using mako to render my email tamplates and within the template I am using the "pylons.url" method with "qualified" set to "True". Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

For example: http://localhost/site/MyPage.aspx?ABCD1234 Then my code would look like this: string accountNumber = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count > 0) accountNumber = Request.QueryString[0]; In MVC, can you pass a positional query string parameter to a controller method instead of accessing it through Request.QueryString?

  Hi everyone I'm only a newcomer to ASP.NET MVC and am not sure how to achieve a certain task the "right way". Essentially, I store the logged in userId in HttpContext.User.Identity and have written an EnhancedAuthorizeAttribute to perform some custom authorization. In the overriden OnAuthorization method, my domain model hits the database to ensure the current user id can access the passed in routeValue "BatchCode". The prototype is: ReviewGroup GetReviewGroupFromBatchCode(string batchCode); It will return null if the user can't access the ReviewGroup and the OnAuthorization then denies access. Now, I know the decorated action method will only get executed if OnAuthorization passes, but I don't want to hit the database a second time to get the ReviewGroup again. I am thinking of storing the ReviewGroup in HttpContext.Items["reviewGroup"] and accessing this from the controller at the moment. Is this a feasible solution, or am I on the wrong path? Thanks!

  I need to auto insert the next orders_id into an Orders table in a database. orders_id is not the primary Key, and it does not auto-increment I need to query the database, find the last (highest) id value, increment 1, and insert it in Orders table in database. Actually, I have a shipping action which will provide address of shipping of orders. So as soon as the user fills address form and move to payments page, I want to simultaneously fill my Orders table by max(orders_id)+1. I am using the following code in my master page: <% Html.RenderAction("RecentArticles","Article"); %> where the RecentArticles Action (in ArticleController) is : [ChildActionOnly] public ActionResult RecentArticles() { var viewData = articleRepository.GetRecentArticles(3); return PartialView(viewData); } and the code in my RecentArticles.ascx partial view : <li class="title"><span><%= Html.ActionLink(article.Title, "ViewArticle", new { controller = "Article", id = article.ArticleID, path = article.Path })%></span></li> The problem is that all the links of the articles (which is built in the partial view) lead to the same url- "~/Article/ViewArticle" . I want each title link to lead to the specific article with the parameters like I'm setting in the partial view. Thanks.

• out of memory issue in asp .net mvc application

  Hi, I have got one wierd issue. I am working on an asp .net mvc application. I have a refresh button that build some data and view models in the controller code, and returns the partial view back. Well this refresh does work good the very first time. But when i try to click my refresh button again, a javascript alert comes saying "out of memory at line 56" I checked my task manager to see on whats happening. I ahve a 3GB memory and when this error alert shows up the used memory is 1.41 GB. Its normal usage as it looks like. But I dont know why it shows the javascript error alert. This problem happens in my local workstation where I am doing developement of this application. Any thoughts or comments to trouble shoot or solve this issue is appreciated. I ma using IE7.
