• SSH Keys Authentication keeps asking for password

  Im trying to set access from ServerA(SunOS) to ServerB(Some custom Linux with Keyboard Interactive login) with SSH Keys. As a proof of concept I was able to do it between 2 virtual machines. Now in my real life scenario it isnt working. I created the keys in ServerA, copied them to ServerB, chmod'd .ssh folders to 700 on both ServerA,B. What could be happening? EDIT WITH ANSWER: Problem was that I didnt have those settings enabled in the sshd_config (Refer to accepted answer) AND that while pasting the key from ServerA to ServerB it would interpret the key as 3 separate lines. What I did was, in case you cant use ssh-copy-id like I couldnt. Paste the first line of your key in your "ServerB" authorized_keys file WITHOUT the last 2 characters, then type yourself the missing characters from line 1 and the first one from line 2, this will prevent adding a "new line" between the first and second line of the key. Repeat with the 3d line.

• virtual web folder served by PHP script

  I am trying to configure my apache to be able to display (virtual) pages like: mywebpage.com/something1 mywebpage.com/something2 mywebpage.com/folder/something3 I would like these "somethingX" and "folder" folders to be only virtual, not physical directories. For a start it would be great to send all requests to mywebpage to one PHP script which will somehow receive the original path information (there is some SERVER array as far as I know) and call necessary PHP functions (so far I use addresses like mywebpage.com/index.php?page=blabla&otherparameters=values...). Is that possible? I am struggling with different combination, currently I am with following file in /etc/apache2/conf.d/something.conf (not working of course). What is the correct way to proceed? Thanks. <Location /myweb> SetHandler my-handler Action my-handler /srv/www/htdocs/myweb/product.php virtual </Location> My pages are in /srv/www/htdocs/myweb. I tried with Location, with Directory, with Action and SetHandler, with AddHandler... ;-) Some configurations were ignored, some caused "object not found" with nothing relevant in error log.

• Diagnosing Random Network Lag

  I'm having trouble diagnosing some random lag on a 6 server LAMP cluster serving a MediaWiki site. While we're serving some 100 pages/sec the servers themselves are running fine with less than 0.5 load, no locked processes, no paging, no errors being logged, etc.... Lag is present on all servers and is random: one minute its fine the next it's there. DNS lookups on the servers are randomly slow. For example time nslookup google.com varies randomly from a few milliseconds to several seconds and sometimes times out entirely. While we use IP addresses internally on the cluster this may be a symptom of the root issue. We are not running our own DNS server. The Apache server-status pages randomly lag or time out. Benchmarking using ab between servers shows a few loads sometimes take 3000 ms (almost exactly). Benchmarking server-status on the local server itself usually shows no issue (it showed a lag only once among a few hundred tests). The servers are sitting behind a switch and a firewall which I don't have any access to so I don't know their setup or status. While we are under heavier than normal load a 2 Mbps incoming and 20 Mbps outgoing traffic shouldn't be stressing the switch or firewall should it? My feeling is that it is the switch/firewall or something above them in the ISP like their DNS but can't confirm it. I need some other tests or methods of diagnosing this lag to try and narrow down the ultimate cause.

• How does Safari's Reader work and when does it show up?

  Safari's Reader feature is a cool little app that displays a web page as a newspaper article --- without all the distracting sidebars, comments, and ads. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and I'm wondering how "it knows when to show up." On my personal website, one of the pages has this option. You can click the Reader button in the URL bar and it is displayed beautifully like a page in an iBook. However, none of my other web pages (on the same site) do this. I thought it had something to do with the <article> tag, but I removed that and it still works. Anyone know how this app works? Also, does anyone know of any Chrome extensions that are just like this? Google Reader is not the same thing. PS: From the cited Apple website: Safari Reader As you browse the web, Safari detects if you are on a web page with an article. Click the Reader button that appears in the Smart Address Field and an elegant view of the article appears — without any distracting content. Not much help, is it?

  I am using puppet and the puppet network device management module and I am trying to build my custom type. In the built-in type for the routers configuration, you can specify a list of nodes and then the configuration inside that node: node "c2950.domain.com" { Interface { duplex => auto, speed => auto } interface { "FastEthernet 0/1": description => "--> to end-user workstation", mode => access, native_vlan => 1000 # [...] More configuration } What I am trying to do, is to move the manifest declaration of the nodes and the configuration of my custom type to a Hiera file like this one: nodes: - node1 - node2 config_device: node1: custom_parameter: "whatever1" node2: custom_parameter: "whatever2" And then in the manifest iterate over the hiera file creating the nodes with the configuration of each node with something like (I am taking as reference this question in serverfault): class my_class { $nodes = hiera_array('nodes') define hash_extract() { $conf_hash = hiera_hash("config_device") $custom_paramter = $conf_hash[$name] ## TRICK lies in $name variable node $name { my_custom_device { $name: custom_parameter => $device_conf['custom_parameter'] } } } hash_extract{$pdu_names: } } } But for this solution I have two problems, I can not define a node inside a define and I can not parameterize a node name.   We have Squid running on a RHEL server. We want to block users from getting to Facebook, other than a couple specific sites, like our organization's page. Unfortunately, I can't get those specific pages unblocked without allowing ALL of Facebook through. If I remove the "!blocked" part of the http_access rule, all of Facebook works. If I remove "facebook.com" from the blocked_content file, all of Facebook works. Right now, visiting facebook.com/OurOrganization gives a "The website declined to show this webpage / HTTP 403" error in Internet Explorer, and "Error 111 (net::ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED): Unknown error" in Chrome. WhereGoes.com tells me the URL redirects for that URL goes like this: facebook.com/OurOrganization -- [301 Redirect] -- http://www.facebook.com/OurOrganization -- [302 Redirect] -- https://www.facebook.com/OurOrganization I tried turning up the debug traffic out of squid using "debug_options ALL,6" but I can't narrow anything down in /var/log/access.log and /var/log/cache.log. I know to issue "squid -k reconfigure" whenever I make changes to any files.

• How to write rules for persistent net names?

  I know that a process generates persistent network card names based on rules found in /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules. I also know how to completely disable this process with a simple echo '#' > /etc/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules but I've read that I "could also write my own rules file to give the interface a name — the persistent rules generator ignores the interface if a name has already been set" (/etc/udev/rules.d/README confirms that this is possible). Do you have any pointers to documentation about how to write such rules? (I mostly care about Debian/Ubuntu and a bit less for CentOS) As a specific example of why I want to write custom rules: I have two identical servers with one onboard LAN and one PCI LAN. In case of HW failure I want to be able to move disks from HW#1 to HW#2 and it's important for eth0 to continue pointing to the onboard card and eth1 to the PCI card (no one wants to mess with cabling in the middle of a HW failure panic). My current workaround works but is a lot of work[1] so I wonder if writing custom rules would allow me to express something simple like this: cards with MAC A or B should be named eth0 cards with MAC C or D should be named eth1 follow default naming scheme for anything else [1] install the OS in HW#1 and keep a copy of /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. Move the disks to HW#2 and keep a second copy of the same file. Concatenate the two copies and manually edit the NAME="ethX" part. Replace /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules with my version. Finally disable auto-creation of a new 70-persistent-net.rules using echo '#' > /etc/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules

  In a custom PowerShell module, I have at the top of my module definition this code: Update-FormatData -AppendPath (Join-Path $psscriptroot "*.ps1xml") This is working fine as all .ps1xml files are loaded. However, the module is sometimes loaded using Import-Module MyModule -Force (actually, this is in the install script of the module). In this case, the call to Update-FormatData fails with this error : Update-FormatData : There were errors in loading the format data file: Microsoft.PowerShell, c:\pathto\myfile.Types.ext.ps1xml : File skipped because it was already present from "Microsoft.PowerShell". • LighTPD and PHP not working if outside of LightTPD folder

  I need to set up a simple web server with PHP on Windows XP that a number of different people will use for local testing. I'm using LightTPD 1.4.30-4-IPv6-Win32-SSL and PHP 5.2. So far I've created this folder structure: tools/ LightTPD/ htdocs/ PHP/ I set up PHP as CGI and the document root as server_root + "/htdocs". It works fine (well, it's slow but I don't want to bother with FastCGI for now :) ). My problem is when I try to put the htdocs outside of LightTPD folder, like this: htdocs/ tools/ LightTPD/ PHP/ I update the document root to server_root + "/../../htdocs" and while static HTML pages work fine, PHP pages stop working (they return a "No input file specified"). I literally just change the document root, I didn't change anything in the php.ini or anywhere else. Please also note that I left all doc_root, user_dir and cgi.force_redirect to the default values in php.ini, and it works when htdocs is inside LightTPD, but not when I move it ouside. Any idea of why it's breaking?? • DBCC CHECKDB fails and quits job, ambiguous error message.

  I received a notice that one of our servers' DBCC CHECKDB for all databases has been failing the past four times it has been run. We don't have any data prior to that, but it doesn't look like it has been succeeding for awhile. There are no errors in the log file only: DBCC results for 'sys.sysxmlfacet'. [SQLSTATE 01000] Msg 0, Sev 0, State 1: Unspecified error occurred on SQL Server. Connection may have been terminated by the server. [SQLSTATE HY000] There are 112 rows in 1 pages for object "sys.sysxmlfacet". [SQLSTATE 01000] I ran a DBCC CHECKDB using sp_MSForEachDB to get more accurate results and had the same error on the same DB but at a separate point: DBCC results for 'NameValuePair_Greek_CI_AS'. [SQLSTATE 01000] Msg 0, Sev 0, State 1: Unspecified error occurred on SQL Server. Connection may have been terminated by the server. [SQLSTATE HY000] There are 0 rows in 0 pages for object "NameValuePair_Greek_CI_AS". [SQLSTATE 01000] Also, the error-log states that the DBCC completed without errors for this database. I can't figure out how to track down this ambiguous issue that only happens on this database out of the dozens on this server. Any help is appreciated!

• Nginx settings are screwing up my Drupal form submissions, how do I fix?

  How do I tell Nginx to "ignore" specific URLS or pages on my web site? I run a Drupal site where anonymous visitors get served via NGINX while logged in users get served via Apache. We do this to keep the load down and scale better. It works great, except, since we set up nginx, a good number of Drupal forms no longer work. For example, before installing Nginx, if you created a new article, then clicked "edit" and edited the article. You could click "save" and your changes to the article would be saved. After setting up nginx, when you make edits and then click "save," the page simple refreshes, but now with "nginx-index.php" inserted into the URL. And your changes to the form were not actually saved to the database. So if you go to edit an article, you'll be on domain.com/node/##/edit or something like that. When you try to save your changes to the form, you'll wind up at domain.com/nginx-index.php?q=node/##/edit. And your changes will not be saved. There is a way around this, but only for administrative users. If you go to a form where this problem is happening, then comment or comment-out three lines in our settings.php file, the form will save properly. Those three lines are: // 'cache_form' = array( // 'engine' = 'db', // ), If they're commented, you uncomment them, them save the form. If they're uncommented, you comment them out and save the form. Obviously, this sucks. My friend who set up our server (and then left the country) told me that there are some Nginx settings that can tell it to "ignore" certain URLs or pages which could work here. How do I do this and where do I do it?

• How to know who accessed a file or if a file has 'access' monitor in linux

  I'm a noob and have some questions about viewing who accessed a file. I found there are ways to see if a file was accessed (not modified/changed) through audit subsystem and inotify. However, from what I have read online, according to here: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-audit-files-to-see-who-made-changes-to-a-file.html it says to 'watch/monitor' file, I have to set a watch by using command like: # auditctl -w /etc/passwd -p war -k password-file So if I create a new file or directory, do I have to use audit/inotify command to 'set' watch first to 'watch' who accessed the new file? Also is there a way to know if a directory is being 'watched' through audit subsystem or inotify? How/where can I check the log of a file? edit: from further googling, I found this page saying: http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/online/pages/man7/inotify.7.html The inotify API provides no information about the user or process that triggered the inotify event. So I guess this means that I cant figure out which user accessed a file? Only audit subsystem can be used to figure out who accessed a file?

• Buying an old laser printer -- what will need to be replaced?

  Hi all -- as you can see I'm new. I do IT and wiring for a small local shop but I never deal with printers. I do a LOT of printing, and I'd like to stop spending as much money on it. On my local CL, there is an HP 8100DN (duplex network) printer for a very good price (and the toner is a quarter-cent per page). It has printed 200,000 pages and I don't yet know anything else about it. The model was released in 1999. So my questions: What are the parts that tend to need service on laser printers? On ebay, I see fusers, rollers, DC power boards, and motors. What would you expect to replace soon at 200,000 pages? Are there any good "tests" to find out if certain parts are near failure? Do you have anything to say about the HP 8100 specifically? The bottom line for me is that if there's any chance of repairs costing more than $100, it's not worth it for me.

• Removing HttpModule for specific path in ASP.NET / IIS 7 application?

  Most succinctly, my question is whether an ASP.NET 4.0 app running under IIS 7 integrated mode should be able to honor this portion of my Web.config file: <location path="auth/windows"> <system.webServer> <modules> <remove name="FormsAuthentication"/> </modules> </system.webServer> </location> I'm experimenting with mixed mode authentication (Windows and Forms). Using IIS Manager, I've disabled Anonymous authentication to auth/windows/winauth.aspx, which is within the location path above. I have Failed Request Tracing set up to trace various HTTP status codes, including 302s. When I request the winauth.aspx page, a 302 HTTP status code is returned. If I look at the request trace, I can see that a 401 (unauthorized) was originally generated by the AnonymousAuthenticationModule. However, the FormsAuthenticationModule converts that to a 302, which is what the browser sees. So it seems as though my attempt to remove that module from the pipeline for pages in that path isn't working. But I'm not seeing any complaints anywhere (event viewer, yellow pages of death, etc.) that would indicate it's an invalid configuration. I want the 401 returned to the browser, which presumably would include an appropriate WWW-Authenticate header. A few other points: a) I do have <authentication mode="Forms"> in my Web.config, and that is what the 302 redirects to; b) I got the "name" of the module I'm trying to remove from the inetserv\config\applicationHost.config file; c) I have this element in my Web.config file: <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="false">; d) I tried a <location> element for the path in which I set the authentication mode to "None", but that gave a yellow exception page that the property can't be set below the application level. Anyone had any luck removing modules in this fashion?

• How do I do a mail merge that includes images? (Maybe in Word 2007)

  I am trying to find out the practicalities of doing a mail merge when each “record” to be merged on includes some images. I need to: print letters And envelopes Both the letters and the envelopes have: Fixed text Fixed images Text that come from the mail merge record Images that come from the mail merge record I don’t know if all images will be the same size for every record, so a bit of simple “on the fly” automatic formatting may be needed . I need to be able to repeat a single item if I get a problem (e.g when folding the letter). What problems am I likely to have? Is Word 2007 up to this sort of mail merging, or should I be looking at a report writing tool? How do I restart a print run after a printer jam etc? What format should I store the “records” and there images in? E.g Can standard software cope with images that are stored in separate files named after the “CustomerId” that is in the “record” (I can write custom software if needed, but would rather use standard “of-the-shelf” software for the printing, I am planning on custom software for the data creation, so can output in whatever format is needed)

• How to automate downloading files?

  I got a book which had a pass to access digital versions of hi-res scans of much of the artwork in the book. Amazing! Unfortunately the presentation of all the these are 177 pages of 8 images each with links to zip files of jpgs. It is extremely tedious to browse, and I would love to be able to get all the files at once rather than sitting and clicking through each one separately. archive_bookname/index.1.htm - archive_bookname/index.177.htm each of those pages have 8 links each to the files linking to files such as <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q9265.jpg.zip, <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q7069.jpg.zip, <snip>/downloads/_Q6Q5354.jpg.zip. that don't quite go in order. I cannot get a directory listing of the parent /downloads/ folder. Also, the file is behind a login-wall, so doing a non-browser tool, might be difficult without knowing how to recreate the session info. I've looked into wget a little but I'm pretty confused and have no idea if it will help me with this. Any advice on how to tackle this? Can wget do this for me automatically?

• IIS 7: One Page Works, All Others Fail With "Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long"

  On my local machine, I have a second site bound to Port 81. Within that site is a certain page which I can browse from other machines with no problems, but all other pages fail with "Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long". Each of the failing pages (as well as the lone working page), works with localhost. So, from any machine, local or remote: http://cmwmach01.mydomain.biz:81/RD/SS/SS.aspx (works) http://cmwmach01:81/RD/SS/SS.aspx (works) http://cmwmach01.mydomain.biz:81/RD/POV/SC.aspx (fails - gets changed to https) http://cmwmach01:81/RD/POV/SC.aspx (fails - gets changed to https) Everything works with localhost (locally, of course). I've tagged this question with SSL because, at one point, it would warn about an SSL cert issue (maybe this was self-signed at one point?), but now it doesn't. While there may be an issue around that, I don't see how this could cause the issue I am seeing (but, as I mention below, am I way out of my depth here). I am way out of depth here in trying to figure out why that one page works (or the others don't), so that I can make them all work. Any ideas?

• How do I restrict access to certain web files/folders on an IIS 7.5 based web server?

  We're moving a website that was previously hosted on Win2k3 & IIS 6 to a Win2k8 R2 & IIS 7.5 platform. The website is public, but we want to restrict anonymous access to certain files and folders such that the user would be prompted for a password to access them. If this were Apache, a simple .htaccess file would serve the purpose. However, since it's IIS 7.5 and we're serving up mainly static HTML files and a few classic ASP pages I'm in a bit of a quandry as to how to restrict access to individual files and folders for various committees such that attempts to committee_1's files and/or folders would prompt the user for a password and, if entered correctly, would serve up their files. Same thing for committee_2 and so on. Under IIS 6, we would take away the read privileges for IIS_IUSRS and create a user called "committee_1" with a password known by the group and give that user read privileges to the files/folders. There's got to be a better (and more secure) way. Reminder, these are not *.aspx pages that are being served up. • FTP Scripting Capabilities

  I am looking for an FTP client that will allow me to do the following Include a GUI for setting up a number of FTP connections Support FTPS Run unattended on Windows Server 2008 Retry failed transactions Support email Support custom scripts I need to pull files from a few different servers and there are certain calculations that need to be done depending on which server the files come from. I've looked at SmartFTP and it looks like pretty much what I need except I can't get it to run as a Windows Scheduled Task (I currently have some support threads open in their forum). I've also looked at a few other FTP clients (Filezilla, RoboFTP, and AutoFTP (you can find the Windows 7 BSOD in this one!)) that haven't had the capabilities I'm looking for. Right now, I'm looking at WS_FTP and its scripting capabilities. It appears I can create a script to run as a scheduled task, but I can't add the script to a file transfer task. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can do post-transfer processing on the files or better yet how to integrate scripting into the file transfer task? I'm also open to other suggestions for FTP clients as well if you have them! If I can't find a suitable FTP client, custom scripting will just have to do the trick.

• Looking for VCS wrapper that tracks system files changing across the whole *nix OS and sends diffs through email

  I need some software that looks after custom directories across the whole OS (i.e. /etc) and alerting me if someone edit something file inside. Additionally, this tool must automatically commit and push changes into backup server, so I can easily determine when specific change in specific file was made. I'm using cvsbackup right now but I want to create or found something more modern. I think using git as VCS is a great idea. I could have local repository and easily revert changes in my configuration files. Furthermore, pushing changes to the remote repository would helps me to recover my configuration files when the server is fault. It doesn't seems difficult to write some wrapper around the git but there are a lot of problems. For example, I need to track custom directories: /usr/local/nginx/ and /etc/. So the destination point for my git repository is /. I don't need to track the other directories so I must to write overwhelming .gitignore rule: * !.gitignore !/etc/ !etc/* !/usr /usr/* !/usr/local /usr/local/* !/usr/local/nginx !/usr/local/nginx/* It's very daunting and prone to error. So it's maybe a good idea to create intermediate file that wrapper reads and converts to .gitignore format. Additionally, I don't want to keep my .git folder in / partition so I need to set appropriate GIT_DIR and GIT_WORK_TREE variables for git. Is there any ready to use tools for implementation this task? I don't found any but I don't believe that no one needs this feature.

The application starts up fine, the database tables are created by hibernate and data is imported by my database importer, so Seam is alive, running and well.   I have a string list (TStrings) that has a couple thousand items in it. I need to process them in groups of 100. I basically want to know what the best way to do the loop is in Delphi. • IE7 doesn't render part of page until the window resizes or switch between tabs

  I have a problem with IE7. I have a fixed layout for keeping the header and a sidepanel fixed on a page leaving only the "main content" area switch can happily scroll it's content. This layout works perfectly fine for IE6 and IE8, but sometimes one page may start "hiding" the content that should be showing in the "main content" area. The page finishes loading just fine. For a split second IE7 will render the main content just fine and then it will immediately hide it from view.. somewhere.. It would also seem that it only experiences this problem when there is enough content to force the "main content" area to scroll. By resizing the window or switching to another open tab and back again will cause IE7 to show the page as it was intended. Note the same problem does occur with IE8 in compatibility mode, but the page is rendered correctly in IE8 mode. If need be I can attach the basic CSS styling I use, but I first want to see if this is a known issue with IE7. Does IE7 have issues with positioned layout and overflow scrolling that is sometimes likes to forgot to finish rendering the page correctly until some window redraw event forces to finish rendering? Please remember, this exact same layout is used across multiple pages in the site as it is set up in a master page. It is just (in this case) one page that is experiencing this problem. Other pages with the exact same layout do render correctly. Even if the main content is full enough to also scroll. UPDATE: A related question which doesn't have an answer at this point. LATE UPDATE: Adding example masterpage and css Please note this same layout is the same for all the pages in the application. My problem with IE7 only occurs on one such page. All other pages have happily render correctly in IE7. Just one page, using the exact same layout, has issues where it sometimes hides the content in the "work-space" div.   Hi, I have a user control which encapsulates a NumericUpDownExtender. This UserControl implements the interface ICallbackEventHandler, because I want that when a user changes the value of the textbox associated a custom event to be raised in the server. By the other hand each time an async postback is done I shoe a message of loading and disable the whole screen. This works perfect when something is changed in for example an UpdatePanel through this lines of code: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_beginRequest( function (sender, args) { var modalPopupBehavior = $find('programmaticSavingLoadingModalPopupBehavior'); modalPopupBehavior.show(); } ); The UserControl is placed inside a detailsview which is inside an UpdatePanel in an aspx. When the custom event is raised I want another textbox in the aspx to change its value. So far, When I click on the UpDownExtender, it goes correctly to the server and raises the custom event, and the new value of the textbox is assigned in the server. but it is not changed in the browser. I suspect that the problem is the callback, since I have the same architecture for a UserControl with an AutoCompleteExtender which implement IPostbackEventHandler and it works. Any clues how can I solve this here to make the UpDownNumericExtender user control to work like the AutComplete one?
