• iPhone OpenGL ES Texture2D Masking

  What's the best choice when trying to mask a texture like ColorSplash or other apps like iSteam, etc? I started learning OPENGL ES like... 4 days ago (I'm a total rookie) and tried the following approach: 1) I created a colored texture2D, a grayscale version of the first texture and a third texture2D called mask 2) I also created a texture2D for the brush... which is grayscale and it's opaque (brush = black = 0,0,0,1 and surroundings = white = 1,1,1,1). My intention was to create an antialiased brush with smooth edges but i'm fine with a normal one right now 3) I searched for masking techniques on the internet and found this tutorial ZeusCMD - Design and Development Tutorials : OpenGL ES Programming Tutorials - Masking about masking. The tutorial tells me to use blending to achieve masking... first draw colored, then mask with glBlendFunc(GL_DST_COLOR, GL_ZERO) and then grayscale with glBlendFunc(GL_ONE, GL_ONE) ... and this gives me something close to what i want... but not exactly what i want. The result is masked but it's somehow overbright-ed 4) For drawing to the mask texture i used an extra frame buffer object (FBO) I'm not really happy with the resulting image (overbright-ed picture) nor with the speed achieved with this method. I think the normal way was to draw directly to the grayscale (overlay) texture2D affecting only it's alpha channel in the places where the brush hits. Is there a fast way to achieve this? I have searched a lot and never got an answer that's clear and understandable. Then, in the main draw loop I could only draw the colored texture and then blend the grayscale ontop with glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA). I just want to learn to use OPENGL ES and it's driving me nuts because i can't get it to work properly. An advice, a link to a tutorial would be much appreciated.

I want to split it so that each set of hash-started lines becomes a list: I can haz a listz0rs! <ul> <li>42</li> <li>126</li> </ul> I can haz another list plox? <ul> <li>Hello, world!</li> <li>Welcome!</li> </ul> If I run the input against the regex "/(?:(?:(?<=^# )(.*)$)+)/m", I get the following result: Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => 42 ) [1] => Array ( [0] => 126 ) [2] => Array ( [0] => Hello, world! ) [3] => Array ( [0] => Welcome! ) ) This is fine and dandy, but it doesn't distinguish between the two different lists. I need a way to either make the quantifier return a concatenated string of all the occurrences, or, ideally, an array of all the occurrences. Ideally, this should be my output: Array ( [0] => Array ( [0] => 42 [1] => 126 ) [1] => Array ( [0] => Hello, world! • Something about Stream

  I've been working on something that make use of streams and I found myself not clear about some stream concepts( you can also view another question posted by me at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2933923/about-redirected-stdout-in-system-diagnostics-process ). 1.how do you indicate that you have finished writing a stream, writing something like a EOF? 2.follow the previous question, if I have written a EOF(or something like that) to a stream but didn't close the stream, then I want to write something else to the same stream, can I just start writing to it and no more set up required? 3.if a procedure tries to read a stream(like the stdin ) that no one has written anything to it, the reading procedure will be blocked,finally some data arrives and the procedure will just read till the writing is done,which is indicated by getting a return of 0 count of bytes read rather than being blocked, and now if the procedure issues another read to the same stream, it will still get a 0 count and return immediately while I was expecting it will be blocked since no one is writing to the stream now. So does the stream holds different states when the stream is opened but no one has written to it yet and when someone has finished a writing session? I'm using Windows the .net framework if there will by any thing platform specific. Thanks a lot!

• Why can't I get the value of this text input?

  It seems simple enough, but nothing I try is working. I have a jquery ui datepicker, I use val() to get the value of that input on button click(), then log it. The click event is working. I can log a string I write myself, but when I pass console.log() the variable that stores the datepicker value...nothing. • How to force positioned elements to stay withing viewable browser area?

  I have a script which inserts "popup" elements into the DOM. It sets their top and left css properties relative to mouse coordinates on a click event. It works great except that the height of these "popup" elements are variable and some of them extend beyond the viewable area of the browser window. I would like to avoid this. • What should be taught in a "Fundamentals of programming" course at university?

  I have started a new question (see here), because I think the topic is of importance in a more general form. The question is now: If you were a professor at a Computer Science Dept. in some university, what would make it into your course? This is a programming course, second term, first year computer science/computer engineering. Remember you have a limited amount of time, and students are of different levels of competence, and some may be scientists, but some will also go on to be programmers in companies of different kinds. You have to cater to all. Bonus: What language? (Although see this question for my current thoughts about this...) Maybe you want to attach a course outline from some university? See here for an even more general question about this. Answer: I can't really summarize this post... I guess it was too subjective. However, it looks like we have to cover the history of computing up to a certain extent, computer architecture (memory, registers, whatever), C, and finally some basic algos and data structures in a problem solving fashion. • JAXB, how to marshal without a namespace

  I have a fairly large repetitive XML to create using JAXB. Storing the whole object in the memory then do the marshaling takes too much memory. Essentially, my XML looks like this: <Store> <item /> <item /> <item /> ..... </Store> Currently my solution to the problem is to "hard code" the root tag to an output stream, and marshal each of the repetitive element one by one: aOutputStream.write("<?xml version="1.0"?>") aOutputStream.write("<Store>") foreach items as item aMarshaller.marshall(item, aOutputStream) end aOutputStream.write("</Store>") aOutputStream.close() Somehow the JAXB generate the XML like this <Store xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> <item xmlns="http://stackoverflow.com"/> ..... </Store> Although this is a valid XML, but it just look ugly, so I'm wonder is there any way to tell the marshaller not to put namespace for the item elements? Or is there better way to use JAXB to serialize to XML chunk by chunk?

• MVC JsonResult not working with chrome?

  i want jquery to take a JsonResult from my MVC controller but it does'nt receive any data! If I put the output into a textfile and enter its link its working so I think my jQuery is fine. Then I was testing with other browsers like chrome and I saw NOTHING. The requested page was just emtpy.. no errors. • Jquery selectors question

  Hi all, I am not an expert at jquery but trying to get a menu to work. Basically, I have a menu made of up to 3 levels of nested lists. The first level has a little arrow has a background image that opens or close when opening the first level list. Any other nested lists don't need to have the background image. My script opens the menu when you click on it and is also supposed to switch the first level list from a class "inactive" to a class "active". Here is the script: $(document).ready(function(){ $("#left-navigation-holder ul.level1 li.inactive").toggle(function(){ $(this).addClass("active"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("active"); }); $("#left-navigation-holder li a").click(function(){ menu = $(this).parent('li').children('ul'); menu.toggle(); }); }); The problem is that the toggle function also happens when clicking on second and third level lists causing the arrows to toggle even if the first level list isn't clicked on. I thought using $("#left-navigation-holder ul.level1 li.inactive").toggle would limit the function to the first level list with a class "inactive". Any help would be really appreciated. Ben

  This question comes from a code analysis run against an object I've created. The analysis says that I should catch a more specific exception type than just the basic Exception. Do you find yourself using just catching the generic Exception or attempting to catch a specific Exception and defaulting to a generic Exception using multiple catch blocks? • Using application roles with DataReader

  I have an application that should use an application role from the database. I'm trying to make this work with queries that are actually run using Subsonic (2). To do this, I created my own DataProvider, which inherits from Subsonic's SqlDataProvider. It overrides the CreateConnection function, and calls sp_appsetrole to set the application role after the connection is created. This part works fine, and I'm able to get data using the application role. The problem comes when I try to unset the application role. I couldn't find any place in the code where my provider is called after the query is done, so I tried to add my own, by changing SubSonic code. The problem is that Subsonic uses a data reader. It loads data from the data reader, and then closes it. If I unset the application role before the data reader is closed, I get an error saying: There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first. If I unset the application role after the data reader is closed, I get an error saying ExecuteNonQuery requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed. I can't seem to find a way to close the data reader without closing the connection.

• Java: How to make this main thread wait for the new thread to terminate

  I have a java class that creates a process, called child, using ProcessBuilder. The child process generates a lot of output that I am draining on a separate thread to keep the main thread from getting blocked. However, a little later on I need to wait for the output thread to complete/terminate before going on, and I'm not sure how to do that. I think that join() is the usual way to do this but I'm not sure how to do that in this case.   Hi s[0]*31^(n-1) + s[1]*31^(n-2) + ... + s[n-1]. Is the hash function of the java string, I assume the rest of languages is similar or close to this implementation. If we have hash-Table and a list of 50 elements. each element is 7 chars ABCDEF1, ABCDEF2, ABCDEF3..... ABCDEFn If each bucket of hashtable contains 5 strings (I think this function will make it one string per bucket, but let us assume it is 5). If we call col.Contains("ABCDEFn"); // will do 6 comparisons and discover the difference on the 7th. The hash-table will take around 70 operations (multiplication and additions) to get the hashcode and to compare with 5 strings in bucket. and BANG it found. For list it will take around 300 comparisons to find it. for the case that there is only 10 elements, the list will take around 70 operations but the Hashtable will take around 50 operations. and note that hashtable operations are more time consuming (it is multiplications). I conclude that HybirdDictionary in .Net probably is the best choice for that most cases that require Hashtable with unknown size, because it will let me use a list till the list becomes more than 10 elements. still need something like HashSet rather than a Dictionary of keys and values, I wonder why there is no HybirdSet!! • What could cause a PHP error on an include statement?

  I've got a bug in my PHP code that's been terrorizing me for several days now. I'm trying to clasp in a new module to an existing Magento (v1.4) site, though I'm very new to the Magento framework. I think I am pretty close to getting to "Hello, World" on a block that I want displayed in the backend, but I'm getting a 500 error when the menu item is selected. I managed to track it down (using echo stmts) to a line in the Layout.php file (app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Layout.php, line 472ish): if (class_exists($block, false) || mageFindClassFile($block)) { $temp = $block; echo "<p>before constructor: $temp</p>"; $block = new $block($attributes); echo "<p>after constructor: $temp</p>"; } For my block, this yields only "before constructor...", so I know this is what is failing. A little more debugging reveals that the class in $block (the new block I am trying to show) does not exist. I would have expected the __autoload function to take care of this, but none of my echos in __autoload are displaying. As a last ditch effort, I tried an include statement in Mage.php to the absolute location of the block class, but similar before and after echos reveal that that include statement becomes the breaking line. I'm tempted to start thinking "permissions", but I'm not well versed in the server management side of all this, and I have limited access to the test server (the test server belongs to the client). To anticipate the question: there are no errors reported in the PHP log file. I am actually not convinced that this site is reporting errors to the log file (I haven't seen anything from this site), though the client is certain that everything is turned on. IIS 7. Integrated mode, I'm pretty sure. Anyone know what could be causing this?

• Empty Postbacks on ASP.NET pages

  We are having a problem that seems to only be a problem when accessing our websites from internal intranet machines. When logged into the domain, and accessing our websites, postbacks are not working. Basically the page behaves as if it were refreshed and nothing was changed. When logging the GETs and POSTs with an HTTP analyzer, the post is complete empty and the ContentLength is 0. It is also very sporadic, but seems to be happening fairly often. In the case where it failed, we could see that there was an extra item in the Header for the POST, it was "Authorization" and the value was the word "Negotiate " followed by a space and then a bunch of characters and two equal symbols at the end, which looked like some kind of base64 encoded value. In a case where it succeeded, this Authorization item was no in the header, but I have logged more than one successful cases to know if that is consistent. We have seen this occur only with IE8 so far, and when it occurs it is sometimes sporadic. I can close and open the browser and it will begin working sometimes, and other times it is still broken. What might be causing the postback to be empty? This means the viewstate is not sent to the server which makes the page basically broken. It seems to certainly be a client side issue, but not sure if it's not aggravated by some server settings. Thanks in advance.

• Parsing custom time format with SimpleDateFormat

  I'm having trouble parsing a date format that I'm getting back from an API and that I have never seen (I believe is a custom format). An example of a date: /Date(1353447000000+0000)/ When I first encountered this format it didn't take me long to see that it was the time in milliseconds with a time zone offset. I'm having trouble extracting this date using SimpleDateFormat though. Here was my first attempt: String weirdDate = "/Date(1353447000000+0000)/"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("'/Date('SSSSSSSSSSSSSZ')/'"); Date d1 = sdf.parse(weirdDate); System.out.println(d1.toString()); System.out.println(d1.getTime()); System.out.println(); Date d2 = new Date(Long.parseLong("1353447000000")); System.out.println(d2.toString()); System.out.println(d2.getTime()); And output: Tue Jan 06 22:51:41 EST 1970 532301760 Tue Nov 20 16:30:00 EST 2012 1353447000000 The date (and number of milliseconds parsed) is not even close and I haven't been able to figure out why. After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the way I'm trying to use SDF is clearly flawed. Example: String weirdDate = "1353447000000"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("S"); Date d1 = sdf.parse(weirdDate); System.out.println(d1.toString()); System.out.println(d1.getTime()); And output: Wed Jan 07 03:51:41 EST 1970 550301760 I can't say I've ever tried to use SDF in this way to just parse a time in milliseconds because I would normally use Long.parseLong() and just pass it straight into new Date(long) (and in fact the solution I have in place right now is just a regular expression and parsing a long). I'm looking for a cleaner solution that I can easily extract this time in milliseconds with the timezone and quickly parse out into a date without the messy manual handling. Anyone have any ideas or that can spot the errors in my logic above? Help is much appreciated.

• "Access is denied" by executing .hta file with JScript on Windows XP x64

  I have a simple HTML (as HTA) application that shows strange behavior on Windows XP x64 machine. I getting periodically (not every time) error message "Access is denied." when i start the application. The same application on Windows XP 32bit runs just fine... Does somebody has any idea or explanation? Error message: Line: 18 Char: 6 Error: Access is denied.   I am trying to develop a jquery component for dialog modals and i dont know how to access the settings from all component functions. I need to access settings,zIndex from open function and it seems to not work. • What's the most DRY-appropriate way to execute an SQL command?

  I'm looking to figure out the best way to execute a database query using the least amount of boilerplate code. I'm already in the habit of factoring out the establishment of a connection, which would yield code more like the following. Can this be reduced further? In particular, I'd like to do something about the first two lines of the procedure. I don't feel like the method should be in charge of creating the SqlCommand. It's a tiny piece of repetition as it is in the example, but it seems to grow if transactions are being managed manually or timeouts are being altered or anything like that.

  So, i am using this code to get the whole HTML of a website. But i dont seem to get non-ascii characters with me. all i get is diamonds with question mark. characters like this: å, appears like this: ? I doubt its because of the charset, what could it then be? • Classic ASP Recursive function

  Hi everyone, I havent done any classic ASP for a couple of years and now trying to get back into it from c# is prooving impossible! I've got a recursive function which very simply is supposed to query a database based on a value passed to the function and once the function has stopped calling itself it returns the recordset....however im getting the old error '80020009' message. I've declared the recordset outside of the function. Cany anyone see the error in my ways?
