• Make vmware virtual machine from HDD with bad sectros

  I have a notebook with a bad HDD (it has bad sectors). I would like make a virtual disk with VMware workstation from this computer. I installed VMware Workstation & VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client on this notebook, then I used virtualize a physical machine. It started procedure but at 38% I got this error: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'BlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: Detected a write error during the cloning of volume \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[39-06-3A-06-00-02-13-4C-1D-00-00-00]. Error: 209 (type: 1, code: 13)' I Googled it and I think it means that I have bad sectors on the HDD. How can I solve this problem and make a virtual machine from HDD with bad sectors?

• What does 'Highest active time' for disk activity in Windows resource monitor mean?

  I know what the disk io, disk queue length and other measures are, but what does 'Highest active time' mean? Is it the amount of time it is busy handling requests, or something else? When it is high, does it mean the CPU is busy doing some IO work, or is it just indicating that the disk is busy handling requests? I'm trying to work out if 50% active time means that 50% of the time the disk is either seeking, reading or writing, rather than the kernel is spending 50% of it's time servicing IO requests. Edit Another quick data point here. If you look at the difference between an SSD and a physical disk, the SSD has significantly less activity, so I guess this really means the amount of time the operating system is waiting for the disk to respond and returning data.

• RightFax 9.3 Available Disk Space?

  We are currently running RightFax 9.3 as our fax server. I was just in the RightFax Enterprise Fax Manager resolving another problem and noticed 2 little red exclamation marks in the lower left hand pane. I have one beside "Available disk space for fax images" and one beside "Available disk space for fax database". Both are labeled with 5%? What is this? How can this be resolved? I have plenty of physical storage left on the server drives so I am curious as to which space it is referring to??

• .NET Web Service (asmx) Timeout Problem

  I'm connecting to a vendor-supplied web ASMX service and sending a set of data over the wire. My first attempt hit the 1 minute timeout that Visual Studio throws in by default in the app.config file when you add a service reference to a project. I increased it to 10 minutes, another timeout. 1 hour, another timeout: Error: System.TimeoutException: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:59:59.6874880. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.TimeoutE xception: The HTTP request to 'http://servername/servicename.asmx' has exceeded the allotted timeout of 01:00:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.Net.WebExcept ion: The operation has timed out at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() [... lengthly stacktrace follows] I contacted the vendor. They confirmed the call may take over an hour (don't ask, they are the bane of my existence.) I increased the timeout to 10 hours to be on the safe side. However the web service call continues to time out at 1 hour. • Set Firefox viewport size

  I thought this would be easy, but turns out it's not. I need to set the Firefox viewport size to a given value (larger than my screen resolution). What I want is not to enlarge the application window, but to enlarge the size available to the html content. The viewport won't be physically larger, but will "tell" the html that it is, so that webpages will take more space (obviously making scrollbars visible). For example, let's say my physical Firefox window is 800x600 px. I'd like to set "viewport size=2", then the available space for the html to render would be 1600x1200. Web Developer has a resize feature but it doesn't work when you set a size larger than your screen resolution (in Windows 7). Thanks in advance (I hope my explanation makes some sense).

• How to upload web.config file using WebDAV on IIS7?

  I want to copy an ASP.NET MVC website to a remote IIS 7 server using WebDAV. I have created a site in IIS, enabled WebDAV and assigned a special application pool I have named "WebDAV Application Pool". Using a Windows 7 or Vista client I'm able to mount the remote site as a network drive. So far, so good. However, I have problems uploading web.config files to the remote site. One problem is that as soon as a web.config has been uploaded it is used to configure the WebDAV site. The web.config file in a Views folder of a MVC project effectively blocks access to that folder. To work around this problem I have configured the application pool in the applicationHost.config file: <configuration> <applicationPools> <add name="WebDAV Application Pool" autoStart="true" enableConfigurationOverride="false" /> </applicationPools> </configuration> The interesting part is the 'enableConfigurationOverride` attribute: When true, indicates that delegated settings in Web.config files will processed for applications within this application pool. When false, all settings in Web.config files will be ignored for this application pool. Doing this makes it possible to upload a web.config file to the Views folder without breaking access to the folder. However, I'm still unable to upload a web.config file to the root folder. I have the following settings in the applicationHost.config file to ensure that request filtering doesn't interfere with WebDAV: <configuration> <location path="webdav.mysite.tld"> <system.webServer> <security> <requestFiltering> <fileExtensions applyToWebDAV="false" /> <verbs applyToWebDAV="false" /> <hiddenSegments applyToWebDAV="false" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webServer> </location> </configuration> In particular hiddenSegments will normally block access to web.config but setting the applyToWebDAV attribute to false should ensure that this file isn't blocked when using WebDAV. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to copy my web.config file to the root folder of the site. Doing drag and drop in Windows Explorer to the mapped WebDAV network drive will result in the following error message: Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. On the wire it seems that the HTTP status 400 Bad Request is returned. Is there anything I can do to configure WebDAV on IIS 7 to avoid this problem?

  We have installed windows 2008 R2 enterprise on a Dell server. This server is placed remotely in data center and only administrator is going to access it for maintenance purpose. No multiple users or client remote access is needed Now during 'remote desktop services' role installation network admin accidentally selected 'per user/device' licensing mode. Because of which now 120 days free try period is ticking. Since only administrator is going to access this server remotely we need to have 'Remote control for administrators' licensing mode (like windows 2003) on it. How we can change licensing mode from 'per user/device' to 'Remote control for administrators' on 2008 server? Also will it be possible to do this change remotely using RDC session itself? or do i need to change it using physical console (if remote access is gonna be disabled during switch)?

• SQL Cluster on Hyper V Failover Cluster

  We have a VM running SQL Server on a 6 node cluster of blades. The VM's data files are stored a SAN attached using a direct iSCSI connection. As this SQL server will be running a number of important databases we're debating whether we should be clustering the SQL Server or will the fact that the VM is running in the cluster itself sufficient to give us high availability. I'm used to running SQL clusters when dealing with physical servers but I'm a bit sketchy on what is best practice when all the servers are just VMs sat on Hyper V. If a blade running the VM fails I presume the VM will be started up on another load. I'm guessing the only benefit that adding a SQL cluster to the setup will give us it that the recovery time after a failure will be a little quicker? Are there any other benefits?

What are the options available for reporting D2700 hardware alarms (disk failure, power failure) via SNMP? We understand the D2700 to have an Ethernet interface for controller A and B and alarms are available via SNMP via this interface. Can anyone provide the actual alarms via this interface? (MIB and alarm list) As we have a number of D2700’s and would like to minimize the number of physical connections to the switch and associated IP addresses; Is there a mechanism to monitor the D2700 from the SCSI connected HPDL360 and raise SNMP alarms from the DL360 for hardware failures on the D2700? If so can anyone provide details and the actual alarms and MIB via this mechanism? Thanks!

  After upgrading my server (HP DL360p Gen8) to the latest ILO 4.30 I have such error What should I do and how to fix my problem? I do not have physical access to my server and so now I have no access at all (I still have ILO with no remote console) I think probably I should use "back-up" copy of ilo if it stored on server... or should I reupload some another ILO version? upd I've noticed that undefined link is "https:///html/undefined", i think I can try "hack" and just type direct link to "remote" page, but i do not have an address. It should be something like "https:///html/remote.html" Probably someone, who has access to ilo, can give me a link?

  i'm playing around w/ LVM on a centos domU in a xen-based vps. I'm in rescue mode and I've created one physical volume (pvcreate /dev/xvda1) for my entire drive, which is formatted as LVM. i'm now trying to create a volume group using vgcreate main /dev/xvda1, but it's returning "Command failed with status code 5.". I've been unable to find an explanation for this error code. does anyone know what it means? for what it's worth, my goal is to create multiple logical volumes on my drive using lvm. thanks

• WCF custom certificate validation with BasicHttpBinding

  I have a WCF application hosted on IIS 6 that needs to Have 2-way SSL authentication Validate client certificate content with some client host information Validate client certificate is issued by the valid subCA. I was able to do 1) successfully. I am trying to achieve 2) and 3) by following this - basically creating a class that inherits X509CertificateValidator and overriding the Validate method with my own validation implementation(step 2 and 3). I followed the MSDN instructions exactly however, it seem that the Validate method is not being called. I purposely throw a SecurityAccessDeniedException in the overidden Validate method and no exception is thrown when I tried to access the service via my browser. I can still access my website with any client certificate. I also read this thread but it didn't really help. Any help would be greatly appreciated! • Jboss Seam: Enabling Debug page on WebLogic 10.3.2 (11g)

  Hi all, SKIP TO UPDATE 3 I want to enable the Seam debug page on Weblogic 10.3.2 (11g). So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml. Now, the problem is my javascript/ajax call cannot communicate with the service over https. I simply get some generic commication error (12031). So, as a test, I changed the port I was calling in the javascript to some other random port, and I get the same error - which tells me that I'm obviously not even reaching my service over https. I'm at a complete loss at this point, I feel like everything is in place, and I just can't see what the problem is.   Hi all, I am new to Pentaho, and I am struggling to set up a new database connection. I am trying to connect to an Oracle 10g database, but whenever I test the connection, I get the below error. It doesn't really seem to list any specific error message so I'm not really sure what to do or where to go from this point. I placed ojdbc jar's in my tomcat lib folder, but maybe there is another place those should go. Any help/hints would be greatly appreciated.   Sharepoint is setup to use NTLM authentication. When I reference http://myserver/Sites/Ops/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx?WSDL as a Web Reference, I can call the methods and get valid responses. When I reference the same url as a Service Reference, the server throws an exception when calling methods. My account is admin on the Sharepoint Farm.   I am using the latest VMware Converter Standalone to p2v a physical Windows 2000 Professional SP4 PC. The PC is a standard Pentium with IDE disk from circa 2001. The disk is 20GB partitioned logically into C: and D. It converts with no errors (I did both disks into one VMDK). When I power on the VM in VMware Workstation 6.5 (or Vmware Player 2.5) it gets to the Win 2000 boot graphic then I get a BSOD with the classic 0x7B Stop error: inaccessible_boot_device. Is there anything I can do to get the vm to boot? I am lost for ideas, normally p2v of a basic IDE pc works flawlessly. I'm willing to put a bounty on this as I am trying to sort this out for a client urgently.

  What's the best way to generate a cryptographically secure 32 bytes salt in PHP, without depending on libraries seldom included in typical PHP installations? After some googling I discovered that mt_rand is not considered secure enough, but I haven't found a suggestion for a replacement. One article suggested reading from /dev/random but not only this won't work on windows; it is also very slow. I want a reasonable balance between security and speed (ie, it shouldn't take 20 seconds to generate 512 bytes, like /dev/random usually does)

I have enabled sessions, so that I can track login status, etc. I don't need some super security here (ie message-level security), all I need is transport security (HTTPS), since this service will be used infrequently, and performances are not so much of an issue. I am having difficulties making it to work at all. C# throws some unclear exception ("Server returned an invalid SOAP Fault. Please see InnerException for more details.", which in turn says "Unbound prefix used in qualified name 'rpc:ProcedureNotPresent'."), but consuming service using PHP SOAP client behaves as expected (including session and all).   I have created the plugin which change the content (add a small picture after each link). But when I visit HTTPS-sites then IE shows popup: "To help protect your security, IE has restricted ......". I pressed allow button, my pictures were displayed. However IE shows it again. And it happens again and again. What have I done wrong? Have I registered my plugin incorrectly ?
