  • Two part form in Rails

    - by samuel02
I have some two nested resources, so that a Product can have many Bookings. On one page in a different controller I want to create a new booking and since it's a "general" booking I want a select menu to appear in a modal window where the user is able to pick one of the existing products and then go to the booking page. How can I do this? I have no problem setting up the modal and the "New booking" page is already there. What I need is a form that generates a list of existing products, picks the selected product id and then gets /products/:product_id/bookings/new . Any help appreciated! I realize my title does not describe my problem very good so better suggestions are highly welcome!

  • Saving a Record with Rails Association

    - by tshauck
Hi, I've been going through the Rails Guides, but have gotten stuck on associations after going through validations and migrations. So, I have the following models Job and Person, where a Person can have many jobs. I know that in reality there'd be a many-to-many, but I'm trying to get my handle on this first. class Job < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :people end and class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :jobs end Here's the schema ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 20110108185924) do create_table "jobs", :force => true do |t| t.string "occupation" t.boolean "like" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.integer "person_id" end create_table "people", :force => true do |t| t.string "first_name" t.string "last_name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end end Is there some I can do the following j = Job.first; j.Person? Then that'd give me access to the Person object associated with the j. I couldn't find it on guides.rubyonrails.org, although it has been very helpful getting a grip on migrations and validations thus far. Thanks PS, If there are any tutorials that covers more of this kind of things links would be great.

  • rails eval code

    - by xpepermint
Hey. I have to do a coll inside my model like this: import = Import.find(id) status = User.find(import.user_id).{XXX}.import(import.file.path) Notice a {XXX} which should be replaced by a dinamic variable of a submodel. Model User has_many groups, clients and products. In translation this would be status = User.find(import.user_id).groups.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).clients.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).products.import(import.file.path) I was thinking of import = Import.find(id) status = eval("User.find(#{import.user_id}).#{import.model}").import(import.file.path) but this gives me an error 'TypeError: can't convert nil into String'. Please tell me how would you fix that. Thx!

  • NoMethodError / undefined method `foobar_path' when using form_for

    - by user1850886
I'm using form_for to create a chatroom and when I view the page I get the following error: NoMethodError in Chatrooms#new undefined method `chatrooms_path' for #<#<Class:0xa862b94>:0xa5307f0> Here's the code for the view, located in app/views/chatrooms/new.html.erb: <div class="center"> <%= form_for(@chatroom) do |f| %> <%=f.text_field :topic%> <br> <%=f.submit "Start a discussion", class: "btn btn-large btn-primary"%> <% end %> </div> Here's the relevant controller: class ChatroomsController < ApplicationController def new @chatroom = Chatroom.new end def show @chatroom = Chatroom.find(params[:id]) end end If I change the line <%= form_for(@chatroom) do |f| %> to <%= form_for(:chatroom) do |f| %> it works fine. I've searched around for similar questions but none of the solutions have worked for me. Help?

  • Merging rows with uniqueness constraints

    - by Flambino
I've got a little time-tracking web app (implemented in Rails 3.2.8 & MySQL). The app has several users who add their time to specific tasks, on a given date. The system is set up so a user can only have 1 time entry (i.e. row) per task per date. I.e. if you add time twice on the same task and date, it'll add time to the existing row, rather than create a new one. Now I'm looking to merge 2 tasks. In the simplest terms, merging task ID 2 into task ID 1 would take this time | user_id | task_id | date ------+----------+----------+----------- 10 | 1 | 1 | 2012-10-29 15 | 2 | 1 | 2012-10-29 10 | 1 | 2 | 2012-10-29 5 | 3 | 2 | 2012-10-29 and change it into this time | user_id | task_id | date ------+----------+----------+----------- 20 | 1 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- time values merged (summed) 15 | 2 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- no change 5 | 3 | 1 | 2012-10-29 <-- task_id changed (no merging necessary) I.e. merge by summing the time values, where the given user_id/date/task combo would conflict. I figure I can use a unique constraint to do a ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE ... if I do an insert for every task_id=2 entry. But that seems pretty inelegant. I've also tried to figure a way to first update all the rows in task 1 with the summed-up times, but I can't quite figure that one out. Any ideas?

  • Is there a way to automatically grab all the elements on the page using Selenium?

    - by VGambit
When creating tests for .Net applications, I can use the White library to find all elements of a given type. I can then write these elements to an Xml file, so they can be referenced and used for GUI tests. This is much faster than manually recording each individual element's info, so I would like to do the same for web applications using Selenium. I haven't been able to find any info on this yet. I would like to be able to search for every element of a given type and save its information (location/XPath, value, and label) so I can write it to a text file later.

  • session fixation

    - by markiv
Hi All, I am new to web development, and trying to get a hold on security issues. I went through this article on http://guides.rubyonrails.org/security.html these are some of the steps the author has mentioned how an attacker fixes session. 1. The attacker creates a valid session id: He loads the login page of the web application where he wants to fix the session, and takes the session id in the cookie from the response (see number 1 and 2 in the image). 2. He possibly maintains the session. Expiring sessions, for example every 20 minutes, greatly reduces the time-frame for attack. Therefore he accesses the web application from time to time in order to keep the session alive. 3. Now the attacker will force the user’s browser into using this session id (see number 3 in the image). As you may not change a cookie of another domain (because of the same origin policy), the attacker has to run a JavaScript from the domain of the target web application. Injecting the JavaScript code into the application by XSS accomplishes this attack. Here is an example: <script>?document.cookie="_session_id=16d5b78abb28e3d6206b60f22a03c8d9";?</script>. Read more about XSS and injection later on. 4. The attacker lures the victim to the infected page with the JavaScript code. By viewing the page, the victim’s browser will change the session id to the trap session id. 5. As the new trap session is unused, the web application will require the user to authenticate. 6. From now on, the victim and the attacker will co-use the web application with the same session: The session became valid and the victim didn’t notice the attack. I dont understand couple of points. i) why is user made to login in step5, since session is sent through. ii) I saw possible solutions on wiki, like user properties check and others why cant we just reset the session for the user whoever is login in when they enter username and password in step5? Thanks in advance Markiv

  • Rails Nested Attributes Doesn't Insert ID Correctly

    - by MunkiPhD
    I'm attempting to edit a model's nested attributes, much as outline here, replicated here: <%= form_for @person do |person_form| %> <%= person_form.text_field :name %> <% for address in @person.addresses %> <%= person_form.fields_for address, :index => address do |address_form|%> <%= address_form.text_field :city %> <% end %> <% end %> <% end %> In my code, I have the following: <%= form_for(@meal) do |f| %> <!-- some other stuff that's irrelevant... --> <% for subitem in @meal.meal_line_items %> <%= f.fields_for subitem, :index => subitem do |line_item_form| %> <%= line_item_form.label :servings %><br/> <%= line_item_form.text_field :servings %><br/> <%= line_item_form.label :food_id %><br/> <%= line_item_form.text_field :food_id %><br/> <% end %> <% end %> <%= f.submit %> <% end %> This works great, except, when I look at the HTML, it's creating the inputs that look like the following, failing to input the correct id and instead placing the memory representation(?) of the model: <input type="text" value="2" size="30" name="meal[meal_line_item][#<MealLineItem:0x00000005c5d618>][servings]" id="meal_meal_line_item_#<MealLineItem:0x00000005c5d618>_servings">

  • get random password with puppet function

    - by ninja-2
I have a function that allow me to generate random password. My function is working well without a puppetmaster. When i tried with a master an error appear when I called the function : Error 400 on SERVER: bad value for range Here is my function module Puppet::Parser::Functions newfunction(:get_random_password, :type => :rvalue, :doc => <<-EOS Returns a random password. EOS ) do |args| raise(Puppet::ParseError, "get_random_password(): Wrong number of arguments " + "given (#{args.size} for 1)") if args.size != 1 specials = ((33..33).to_a + (35..38).to_a + (40..47).to_a + (58..64).to_a + (91..93).to_a + (95..96).to_a + (123..125).to_a).pack('U*').chars.to_a numbers = (0..9).to_a alphal = ('a'..'z').to_a alphau = ('A'..'Z').to_a length = args[0] CHARS = (alphal + specials + numbers + alphau) pwd = CHARS.sort_by { rand }.join[0...length] return pwd end end The function is called in both case with $pwd = get_random_password(10). When I specified the length directly in the function to 10 for example. the password is well generated in master mode. Have you any idea why i can't specify the lentgth value ? Thanks for any help.

  • Expanding a row in a div-based table

    - by magneticMonster
I have a stack of <div> elements that show a name. I'd like to include a + link off to the side that, when clicked, expands the <div> and adds more detailed information (from a RoR controller). After poking around on the net, I found link_to_remote and related RoR stuff, but I can't seem to get the right combination to work together. Can someone point me to a tutorial or show what the controller and view interaction should look like? Thanks!

  • how to set custom tab in jquery ui and use with rails

    - by Katyal
I'm using jqueryUI for tabs on a page. I initialize it like below: $("#tabs").tabs(); <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="#tabs-4">Part A</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-2">Part B</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-5">Part C</a></li> </ul> <div id="tabs-4"> ..... </div> <div id="tabs-2"> .... </div> <div id="tabs-5"> .... </div> </div> I have 2 questions. How do I set the tab to be custom. say I want second tab to be shown first. $('#tabs').tabs(2) does not work. i got that from this link Let say I click on a button inside tab1. Clicking on the button takes control back to an action and then control comes back to this page. When the control comes back...then is it possible to set a custom tab?. For example. in tab 1 I click something...go back to the action...and then I want to come back to tab 2.

  • MIgrations and Rspec

    - by pablorc
Hi, I'm developing a Rails application with Rspec for unit testing. Weeks ago, Rspec used to migrate the database to the last version automatically when executing 'rake spec', but now it doesn't do it automatically, I have to implement everything for myself. This happens in test environment, because my development data doesn't desappear. Is my fault? I didn't change anything, I think :) Thanks in advance.

  • ActiveRecord and transactionsin between `before_save` and `save`

    - by JP
I have some logic in before_save whereby (only) when some conditions are met I let the new row be created with special_number equal to the maximum special_number in the database + 1. (If the conditions aren't met then I do something different, so I can't use auto-increments) My worry is that two threads acting on this database at once might pick the same special_number if the second is executed while the first is saving. Is there way to lock the database between before_save and finishing the save, but only in some cases? I know all saves are sent in transactions, will this do the job for me? def before_save if things_are_just_right # -- Issue some kind of lock? # -- self.lock? I have no idea # Pick new special_number new_special = self.class.maximum('special_number') + 1 write_attribute('special_number',new_special) else # No need to lock in this case write_attribute('special_number',some_other_number) end end

  • rails route question

    - by badnaam
I am trying to build a search functionality which at a high level works like this. 1 - I have a Search model, controller with a search_set action and search views/partial to render the search. 2 - At the home page a serach form is loaded with an empty search object or a search object initialized with session[:search] (which contains user search preferences, zip code, proximity, sort order, per page etc). This form has a post(:put) action to search_set. 3 - When a registered user performs a set the params of the search form are collected and a search record is saved against that user. If a unregistered user performs a search then the search set action simply stores the params in the session[:search]. In either case, the search is executed with the given params and the results are displayed. At this point the url of in the location bar is something like.. http://localhost:3000/searches/search_set?stype=1 At this point if the user simply hits enter on the location bar, I get an error that says "No action responded to show" I am guessing because the URL contains search_set which uses a put method and even though I have a search_show (:get) action (which simply reruns the search in the session or saved in the database) does not get called. How can I handle this situation where I can route a user hitting enter into the location bar to a get method? If this does not explain the problem , please let me know I can share more details/code etc. Thanks!

  • Set a session hash outside of RoR program?

    - by Sindri Guðmundsson
Hi, I have had my new rails program up for a few days now. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.4 with apache2 in another location than the website it's made for (it's a standalone database application for physiotherapists). The people I made it for now want me to deploy it to the public part of their website, only with one change. Those who open it via the link in the public-part should not be able to click one button! I was thinking of doing something like this in my view: <% if session[:inside]%> <%=button_to 'Sækja mælitæki', @link_to_mt%> <%end%> How could I set session[:inside] only to true if the program was started from within the private part of the webpage? I thought of creating two new actions, the other would set session[:inside] to true and the other to false, but that seems to me like a security risk, is it not? BR, Sindri

Note: the whitespaces are there in the db correctly What can I do to conserve those whitespaces? Thanks

  • How to set up two models having a has_many association with each other

    - by daz13
I'm looking for a suggestion on how to set up two models, Teacher and Subject. A Teacher can have many Subjects, and a Subject can have many Teachers. Another thing to consider in the relationship between the two models is that a Teacher can create a Subject and add other Teachers to the Subject. I think I'm solid on the basics of the set up for each model: for teacher.rb: has_many :subjects for subject.rb: has_many :teachers and the teachers table should have a subject_id column and the subject table should have a teacher_id column. What I'm not sure about is how to set up the views (and corresponding controller methods) to allow the addition of a Teacher to a Subject. Any suggestions (or links to examples) are greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything on this exact case.

  • Oracle ORA-01795 error in Rails

    - by Cyborgo
Hi, I am using Oracle as database for my Rails applications and have got some pretty intense tables. I'm trying to find the particular entries using a query like this Author.all( :conditions => { :name => names } ) I have been working SQlite all along and just migrated to Oracle which complains that IN clause has more than 1000 entries. Obvious workaround would be to break it into subclauses for which I need to write some raw sql queries. Is there anything in Rails that facilitate this?
