• AppDomain.UnhandeledException event not fired

  In a WPF application, the app simply crashes, without the above event being fired. (I'm also registered to DispatcherUnhandeledException, which doesn't fire as well.) I conclude that it doesn't fire since the handler is defined to place a log entry. When looking at the log, there's no corresponding entry. It happens in a production environment; I'm unable to point at a particular scenario. I've read few descriptions on scenarios where this might happen, but I still don't have a clear grasp on this. Can anyone share his experience / knowledge on this? How can I find the root of the crash and solve it? Many thanks.

• Problem with usercontrol scaling when added at run-time in .Net, WinForms

  First here's the steps to replicate, then I'll explain what the problem is: (1) Add a usercontrol to a form in the construtor, after the InitializeComponent call. (2) Run the form. (3) Click a button to increase the form font size. All the controls within the usercontrol scale perfectly but the usercontrol itself doesn't. It's width and height are increased by way too much. To correct the problem, the usercontrol must be added before the InitializeComponent call. If it wasn't possible for me to add the usercontrol before InitializeComponent, is there any way for me to correct the scaling?

• How can I modify a custom object in an ASP.NET FormView based on a button click?

  I have a FormView that modifies an instance of a custom class. The various form controls (TextBox, DropDownList etc.) are working fine. However, I want to include a Button that will modify the state of the DataItem based on some very simple logic. There is no form control which could control this change in a non-confusing way. So I tried adding a Button and modifying the state of the DataItem in the code-behind. But the problem I encounter is that the FormView's DataItem is null/nothing. From reading this SO question it seems the problem is that the item is not databound when the Button's Click event is fired. So, the question; Is it possible to get the DataItem for the FormView during a Button's Click event? and if not: what are my options for implementing this? Thanks in advance.   Hi, I'm new to the validation application block and trying to use it with wcf... I have a wcf service that has data objects with validation rules defined with attributes, using the validation application block . On my client side (WPF), I have a service reference. When I update the service reference the generated classes do not have the validation rules attributes in them. How can I get the rules from the service? Am I missing some step, or is it not possible?

• Bind Data after TCP receive.

  I have this strange problem all day now. I dunno if you handled something similar. I used two different serializers and now i know its not this problem. Im sending some data over TCP Sockets. Serialize - Send - Deserialize, everything works ok, i can get my objects search through them, use they're properties! But, if e.g receive a BusinessObject[] and convert into List<BusinessObject>, then bind the list in a Control.DataSource = businessObjectList; BOOM! NotSupportedException. Tried it with 3 different controls. Same behaviour. My head is empty of ideas right now!! The Send TCP happens on Desktop Framework, Receive on Compact Framework. But i dont think this has to do with anything. I wish for an explanation on this!

• FLEX: customized tag Cloud, how to compute positioning and distances

  hi, I want to build a tag cloud like this one in my Flex application. See image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72686/tagCloud.png At the moment I have the tags (that are mx.controls.LinkButtons) added at the same position and having different sizes according to values (stored in an ArrayComponent). In my visualization, the orange tags are supposed to be listed vertically in the middle. The gray tags should be at different distances (according to stored numeric values). I want to avoid overlapping and cluttering. How do you suggest to compute x and y of the gray tags taking care about: the distances from orange tags avoid overlapping between them thanks

  I'm currently setting up an application config for a WPF application written in .Net 4.0. The connection string in the app.config is encrypted like so: <connectionStrings configProtectionProvider="DataProtectionConfigurationProvider"> <EncryptedData> <CipherData> <CipherValue>CypherValue</CipherValue> </CipherData> </EncryptedData> </connectionStrings> To use the EncryptedData element I need to include the XMLNS "http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0". Attempting to include it produces an error as the schema cannot be found. Is there a way to include the schema or perhaps a different element I could use instead of EncryptedData?

I mean, when I choose add new item in the VS menu, there is a Windows form and some varians of it like an about box, or Dialog, that are simple Forms with a custom controls already on it. I want to have a login form for my set of applications, so this login is avialable for all the development team to use it in the different modules.   Hello! Please, don't judge strictly if this question was discussed previously or indirectly answered in huge nearby prism and mvvm blogs. In WPF implementation of RelayCommand or DelegateCommand classes there is a such eventhandler /// <summary> /// Occurs whenever the state of the application changes such that the result of a call to <see cref="CanExecute"/> may return a different value. /// </summary> public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged { add { CommandManager.RequerySuggested += value; } remove { CommandManager.RequerySuggested -= value; } } but in SL subset of namespaces there are no CommandManager class. And this is where I'm stuck. I haven't yet found an workaround for this in MVVM adoptation for SL (PRISM is so complex for me yet). Different simple HelloWorldMVVM apps don't deal with at all. What do I do?

• Script Errors in Silverlight WebBrowser Control

  Hi, I am showing a HTML page with a Flash video player on it in a Silverlight app using the WebBrowser control. The site itself is displayed perfectly and everything works just fine. But when I want to close the player component, I somehow need to completely dispose the current HTML page with the flash player. I tried navigating to about:blank, or even to other pages like google.com before the player component is hidden. But the flash video keeps on playing and the WebBrowser shows several Script Errors, which must be clicked in order to really leave the flash page. Is there any way to instantly "clear" the WebBrowser control or to surpress the Script Errors so that it leaves the html/flash page? In WPF there seem to be some methods for that, but I couldnt find any on the Silverlight WebBrowser control. Any hints are appreciated, Whiskas

• Silverlight Scrollable Content Problem

  I am fairy new to Silverlight and I have a problem. I have a grid on a page that is resizable when the user resizes their browser window. In one of the grids columns I want to display dynamically added content that is scrollable, as there is more data than space available. I currently have a scrollViewer with a stack panel inside it, that i programmatically add a user control to and then several user controls to that control depending on the amount of content. My problem is this. The scrollViewer does not respect the available space and as such displays its content outside of the viewable area when there is more data than space. i.e. it does not uses it is not scrollable nature. Hopefully this is something simple that I have missed, but i am banging my head against the wall at the moment. Any help gratefully received.

• How to debug and detect hang issue

  I am testing my application (Windows 7, WinForms, Infragistics controls, C#, .Net 3.5). I have two monitors and my application saves and restores forms' position on the first or second monitors. So I physically switched off second monitor and disabled it at Screen Resolution on the windows display settings form. I need to know it is possible for my application to restore windows positions (for those windows that were saved on the second monitor) to the first one. I switched off second monitor and press Detect to apply hardware changes. Then Windows switched OFF the first monitor for a few seconds to apply new settings. When the first monitor screen came back, my application became unresponsive. My application was launched in debug mode, so I tried to navigate via stack and threads (Visual Studio 2008), paused application, started and did not find any thing that help me to understand why my application is not responsive. Could somebody help my how to detect the source of issue.

  I'm getting reports that my app is causing a GPF on some Vista machines. The error message is something like this: access violation at 0x75784062 ( tried to write to 0x00000006) In order to fix this, I first need to know exactly who is causing this GPF: my main exe, some third party component, one of my own activex components, a dll, etc... How can I find this out? What tools can pinpoint the exact module that caused this mess? Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS My app is coded in VB6 and my activex controls are written in Delphi 2007.

• How would I go about building a calendar UI control for the iPhone/iPad?

There are a few different 3rd party code frameworks that include calendar controls, but most of them have a lot of functionality I don't need, plus most of them lack sufficient documentation on how to use them and I'm not a proficient enough iPhone developer figure it out using just the code. So I'm going to attempt to build my own and I was hoping you could provide me with some high-level direction to get started. At a high level, how could I build a simple, calendar control that doesn't do much more than display a calendar (month view, with the current date highlighted) and allows the user to selected a date? • Controlling PowerPoint Slideshow

  Hi, I have a scenario: There is a Slideshow running in PowerPoint. I want to control the movement [Next and Previous] of the slides. Of course it is possible with the [ and < button on the keyboard], but is there any way in which I can have a custom application listening to the Next and Previous controls? As in, my custom application has nothing but 2 buttons, next and previous, when I click either, the button's event handler should pass the control to the Power Point Application running the slideshow. And thus, the powerpoint will move the slideshow back or forward? Somewhat similar to the way remote, wireless Power Point Presenters work on the s/w end. Thank You.

  In the context of C# 4, ASP.NET MVC 2, and NHibernate; I've got the following scenario: Let's assume an entity Product that have an association to ProductType. In a product edit view; how do I implement that only a sub-set of the product's properties are shown based on the ProductType association in an elegant and DRY way? I.e., different properties shall be shown for different values of a property of the ProductType. Use a product view model builder, and from different view models automagically generate the view with my own Html.EditorForModel() (including drop-downs and other stuff not out-of-the-box)? Attribute the properties of one view model and use the Html.EditorForModel() way aforementioned? Use one model, but implement different web controls (view strategies) (can it be done DRY?)? Something else entirely?

• How should the View pull on the Presenter in the MVP pattern

  I have a ASP.NET Web Forms application and I'm using some dynamic controls in the view which depend on stuff that the presenter exposes. Is it okay for the view in this case to pull on the presenter for that data? Is there anything I should be extra careful about when considering testability and a loosely coupled design. The page in this case has it's own page-life cycle and the presenter doesn't know about this. However, the page-life cycle dictates that somethings must occur at specific moments in the page-life cycle. This smells like trouble... Any known pit falls?

• .NET 3.5 SP1 prerequisite, MS giving the clients 4.0

  I have been using an MSI to install a WPF application using the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I have set up .NET 3.5 as a prerequisite in the MSI, and what has been happening for ages is that when the user does not have .NET 3.5 SP1, the MSI first has them download and install that before resuming the installation of my application. Since yesterday when MS released .NET 4.0, when users don't have .net 3.5 SP1, the MSI is directing them to install 4.0 instead. What happens though, is that after they finish installing 4.0, the MSI still detects that they don't have 3.5, and directs them to the 4.0 install site again. So the user has 4.0, but the MSI doesn't ever get to installing my application. What do I have to change in my application? This seems like an error with how MS is handling the prerequisites either on their server or in the MSI in VS 2008.

• ASP.NET - fast Segmented downoad of file through webservice

  Hi, Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice. Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?
