Hi Guys,
Can someone point me to some instructions for configuring multiple monitors in Ubuntu 10.04 using the generic drivers (nv)? I can't seem to find this online.
-M
I would like to also monitor non-crucial services with nagios like for example our GitLab-server or phpMyAdmin instance. Is there any way to just create warnings instead of circuital errors for some services?
At the moment I'm using the following:
define service {
host_name localhost
use generic-service
service_description HTTP GitLab
check_command check_www!git.example.com!'/users/sign_in'
}
define command {
command_name check_www
command_line /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H '$ARG1$' -I '$HOSTADDRESS$' -e 'HTTP/1.1 200 OK' -u '$ARG2$'
}
Hello,
I am using:
ubuntu 10.4
2.6.32-21-generic
Evolution 2.83.3
I have noticed that when I get a new email, it never shows a new mail icon in the panel. I had the same problem with 9.10, and I thought the problem would go away when I upgraded to 10.4.
I have checked the properties in Mail preferences:
Play sound - yes
Display a notification - yes
Indicate new messages in panel - yes
Many thanks for any suggestions,
If I run
cp file1 file2
I'd like to be able to track it's progress. Is there a command I can use for this?
rsync --progress
has this, but is there something generic, usable for "any" command?
I have a plugin that gets pushed to all clients. However, I have one that's specific to a particular module, hence I don't want it synced with all my clients.
My generic plugin is stored in /etc/puppet/modules/custom/lib/facter but I have a plugin stored inside a module that seems to be pushed to all clients regardless if the host inherits the class or not.
Location of module:
/etc/puppet/modules/apache/lib/facter/SAMPLE_PLUGIN.rb
I have a Latitude D630 Laptop with a Fresh Windows XP install that won't work with a generic external USB mouse. It recognizes the device has been put in but fails to install it.
USB keyboards work fine
I have tried restarting the laptop
Tried starting the machine without the docking station and plugging directly into the laptop
Don't have the original CD, but I installed drives from the Dell website until there were no ? icons
Tried deleting the USB mouse device and plugging it again
The cluster managing software for managing clusters on a windows server 2005 cluster had a checkbox for "allow application to interact with desktop" when creating a generic application resource. This appears to be gone in the management software for server 2008 clusters. Does anyone know where this option, if it still exists, is?
Where can I find a step-by-step boot log of my Windows XP machine? I'm looking for something akin to the boot log you would get in Linux (with what is running at what times, how long it is running, etc).
I am specifically interested in the what is happening after I get out of initial boot phase (AKA, the Windows XP logo goes away and I move to the generic blue background, and as I log in as a user onto the machine).
FUSE filesystem list show some FuseFat and FatFuse. One is 404 not found, others is old, not buildable and probably depends on glib.
Now I'm using mountlo for the task (mounting USB drives in generic way without root access or suid things (except of fusermount itself), but it looks too big for such task.
Is there good vfat FUSE driver?
The only devices on this particular LAN will all have public IP addresses. Also the public IP address will be configured directly on the machine,,, so we will not translate private/public IP addresses. If we use NAT,, we would have to translate the public IP on the WAN to the public IP on the LAN.
The only security feature I expect on the gateway is an access list.
I don't really know much about networking, so I am sorry if this question is generic.
On a server running Debian Wheezy and Samba ver 3 with a tdb backend, how do I restrict a single user from changing the password? This account is one of 2 generic accounts, one for students and one for Teachers on Call (TOC). The users are created, but I'm not deploying the server yet. When looking through Google, I came across setting the maximum password age, but not setting the minumum password age (I'd be happy with a 5 year password...)

I can't turn off my ATI adapter. I have applied the fix, but still lspci | grep VGA gives
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M92 LP [Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series] (rev ff)
and my power consumption is about 15W (Wi-Fi on).
I run ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-14-generic. BIOS version 2.30
What should I do about this user? The user is:
Downloading pornography
Attempting unauthorized access
Running hacking software
Sending unsolicited email
Installing software / tampering with the system
etc
This is intended as a generic answer for employee behavioral problems, a la Can you help me with my software licensing question?
I could see where acceptable use issues are a touch out of scope for SF, however it is one of those things most sysadmins will run into. I don't want to keep rewriting similar answers.

Getting the following error when attempting to install:
Error attempting to create the destination file:
C:\Windows Embedded
Data\Repositories\{25C88912-9870-4686-97CE-8244C
A1B0DAB}.CAB. System error code: 5
Code 5 looks to be an "Access denied" issue. Not sure if this is a generic Windows error, or specific to this install.
Any insight is appreciated!

I have a windows 7 machine that won't boot completely, even in safe mode. I want to re-image the machine using a generic software image, but would like to keep the user data (including settings etc) that are on there ala Windows Easy Transfer. I can mount the hard disk on another machine - can I use Easy Transfer to transfer the user state of an account on the non-booted OS? Or do I need explore USMT?

I've got some generic RAID controller built into my motherboard and I want to build either a RAID 5 or RAID 0+1 array. What are the disadvantages of running unmatched drives? Like 4 different brand 7200rpm 500gb drives?
This would determine whether I look around for whatever used drives I could get my hands on vs. paying extra for a set of matched identical drives.
I have problems with my USB driver. After adding my device (MSP430 USB-DEBUG-INTERFACE) it doesn't work.

It's Linux

I hope someone can help me.
I've got an AMD Athlon XP-2500+ host running 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 (i686 2.6.31-20-generic kernel). Unfortunately, it appears that the clock drift on it is so bad (it advances close to an extra second every minute) that ntpd can't keep the machine in sync.
How do I deal with this so I can get ntpd working?
When I execute
sudo -u nagios /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_by_ssh.sh hostname "check_haproxy -u \"http://localhost:10000/haproxy?stats\;csv\""
it runs perfectly on the server.
For this, I have this in my HAProxy.cfg
define service {
use generic-service
hostgroup_name pwmail-ee-oxweb
service_description HAProxy-ee
servicegroups ssh-dep
check_command check_by_ssh!check_haproxy -u \"http://localhost:10000/haproxy?stats\;csv\"
contacts sysad,mail-hosting-rt
}
It doesn't work. Says that Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing.
What am I doing wrong?
I have a Logitech Headset that uses MS Supplied drivers, in this case Generic USBAudio Driver.
The sound is really choppy in a 64bit version of Win 7. 32Bit works perfectly fine.
How is it possible for me to notify MS, and get the problem fixed?
I keep getting the following message, "Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?"
First of all, what application? Second, if it's part of the browser, which sometimes the browser isn't open, it doesn't show me what page is requesting it. "Application" is very generic.
Third what does that mean? Is it asking if anyone on the internet can make connections to my computer?
I need to know if it's possible on an exchange server to filter outgoing mail and override the from address in certain cases.
We have to set up many exhange users who will only be able to access exchange through the outlook web access. All their outgoing e-mails when received from recipients outside our company should appear to be sent from a single generic address and not from the users' addresses.
Anyone knows whether this is possible or not?
thank you,
Michele
