• Apache not running from rc.d on FreeBSD

  I'm using FreeBSD 8.3 and Apache 2.2. I didn't install Apache from ports, instead compiled it from source because I wanted to move the binary and configuration to a different path (I'm centering all of the major production daemons and their configurations in a single place). In any case, I based the /usr/local/etc/rc.d/apache22 file on one from a different server where it was installed from ports, I only modified the binary and config paths within. I can manually execute it with /usr/local/etc/rc.d/apache22 start, however even with apache22_enable="YES" in /etc/rc.conf it fails to start. All permissions and ownership are identical to the other server where it works. What am I missing and is there a way to debug this kind of thing?

• Apache + mod_php Ignores SUID?

  Does apache or mod_php cause a SUID flag to be ignored when using the shell_exec command from a web accessed PHP script? I'm trying to allow a web accessible PHP script to rename some files which the apache user does not have write access to. I don't want to give it access to write these, as I only want one controlled script to be able to do this. I'm trying to avoid SUDO and the config needed or the headache/insecurity of using a que called from a privileged users cron, and it seemed like I should be able to use SUID to accomplish this. • FreeBSD 8.2 + Apache 2.2 + mod_auth_pam2: unable to authenticate

  I've installed Apache 2.2 and mod_auth_pam2 from ports, but I can't get local UNIX authentication to work. When I access the protected part of my local website, I do get the authentication request, and with pam_permit.so, it works. However, when I change pam_permit.so to the real thing, pam_unix.so, I get this message in httpd-error.log: [error] PAM: user 'foo' - not authenticated: authentication error This is the relevant part of my Apache config, though I don't think it's the problem as it works with pam_permit.so: <Location /foo> AuthBasicAuthoritative Off AuthPAM_Enabled on AuthPAM_FallThrough off AuthType Basic AuthName "Secret place" Require valid-user </Location> This is my /etc/pam.d/httpd, though I don't think it's the problem either, since it works with pam_permit.so: auth required pam_unix.so account required pam_unix.so So what am I missing? What does it take to have pam_unix.so work for httpd under FreeBSD?

• Which is faster? 4x10k SAS Drives in RAID 10 or 3x15k SAS Drives in RAID 5?

  I am reviewing quote for a server upgrade. (RHEL). The server will have both Apache and MySQL on it, but the reason for upgrade is to increase DB performance. CPU has been upgraded massively, but I know that disk speed is also a factor. So RAID 10 is faster performance than RAID 5, but how much difference does the drive speed make? (The 15k discs in the RAID 5 config is at the top of my budget btw, hence not considdering 4x15k discs in RAID 10, which I assume would be the optimum.)

• Obtain newer version of NetSNMP for CentOS 5

  I'm using CentOS 5. I have a need to use net-snmp version "net-snmp-utils-5.5-37.el6_2.1.x86_64" which is currently available in CentOS 6 but not in CentOS 5. The reason I need this version (or greater) is because there is a new supported option added to the config files that I need for my setup. It would be very much appreciated if someone would give me some steps to install this version (or greater) on my production CentOS 5 systems. Upgrading to CentOS 6 is currently not an option. • How can I recover Google Chrome extensions, settings after a Linux crash?

  I'm running Google Chrome 5.0.307.11 (Official Build 39572) beta on Debian Linux (lenny) kernel version 2.6.26-2-686. The machine is a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad X300) and sometimes it freezes, usually shortly after wakeup from sleep. The only cure is the power button, but when I restart my Google Chrome web browser after such an event, Settings on the Options menu revert to defaults. Chrome removes all the extensions from ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions, leaving me with no extensions. The set of "pages last open" is lost. I'd love to know how to poke at the file system in order to recover any or all of this information, especially my extensions. It is a pain to re-do everything by hand each time. How can I recover Google Chrome's extensions and settings after a Linux crash?

• Amazon EC2 Creating Tunnel with OpenVPN

  I have followed these instructions: http://aws.amazon.com/articles/0639686206802544 I can ping the VPN endpoints and I have the corresponding VPC CIDR pointing to the EC2 instance in the route table. Here is my config: port 1194 proto udp dev tun # Remote peer and network remote Elastic_IP route 10.0.0.0/16 # Configure local and remote VPN endpoints ifconfig 169.254.255.1 169.254.255.2 # The pre-shared static key secret /etc/openvpn/ovpn.key keepalive 10 120 persist-key persist-tun log /var/log/openvpn.log verb 3 When I look at my logs, I get this error: RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: 10.0.0.0/16: Name or service not known OpenVPN ROUTE: failed to parse/resolve route for host/network: 10.0.0.0/16 in VPC1, the CIDR is 172.31.0.0/16 which is targeting the EC2 instance also running OpenVPN. I'm getting the same error from the Instance in VPC2 with the corresponding CIDR. Just for testing, i stopped the IPTABLES service I am running the Amazon linux AMI image (x64) as specified in the article I linked.

  I'm trying to get connected to another ASA via Cisco VPN Client. I am behind an ASA 5505 myself and I am tryihng to VPN to a 5510. I get the message: Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I can connect to the other ASA if I use a normal cheap Linksys. • Can't move or access WSS Central Administration site

  We have several WSS Servers: WSS1 WSS2 WSS3 WSS4 SharePoint thinks that Central Administration is on WSS3 and that it can be access via SSL on port 22641. The problem is that central administration is not there. It was removed using the config wizard. We removed central admin from all servers to clean everything out, and we tried installing Central Admin on WSS1. The alternate access mappings still point to central admin on WSS3. We tried deleting the alternate access mappings, but SharePoint won't let you delete central admin's mapping. Later, we removed central admin from all of our servers and tried creating the Central Admin website on WSS3, where SharePoint already thinks it is. But for some reason SharePoint is creating the alternate access mappings using SSL, and we don't have a certificate for the server. Why is SharePoint creating alternate access mappings routing an https internal URL by default? How can we move central administration to a new server? We are using WSS 3.0.

• Cannot find my hard disk while installing linux-“No root file system defined” error

  I am trying install Linux on my computer (tried Ubuntu 10.4 and Linux Mint 9). I started the installation wizard and on the hard disk selection page the hard disk is not displayed. I have a 500GB disk with 5 partitions and windows 7 ultimate in one partition. If I click the forward button, it shows an error- "No root file system defined". I have tried to install by booting from CD and pendrive but both shows the same error. When I load Linux as live CD it doesn't show the hard disk. My hard disk works fine in windows 7. System config: intel i3 2100, 500GB hdd, 2GB ram

• How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. • Problem with running php script using mysql on tomcat

  I am using tomcat 6 with JavaBridge. I have stored my php script in the following location. C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\project\test.php In test.php I am using curl and mysql. The php.ini in JavaBridge is stored in the following location C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\WEB-INF\cgi\php.ini and its contents are - extension_dir="C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\WEB-INF\cgi\x86-windows\ext" include_path="C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\WEB-INF\pear;." there is also a config file called mysql.ini whose contents are - extension = php_mysql.dll I had also installed wamp earlier so I copied all the dll's from C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.0\ext to C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\WEB-INF\cgi\x86-windows\ext When I start tomcat and run my script I get the following error - Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysqli_connect() in C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-6.0.26\webapps\JavaBridge\project\test.php on line 534 Please help.

• CNTLM issue with intranet (maybe DNS)

  On my Linux box I need to use an ISA proxy that requires authentication to reach the internet. I therefore installed CNTLM and configured it to point to the proxy address and listen on port 4321. I then configured my GNOME distribution to use localhost:4321 as global proxy for HTTP and HTTPS. The result: I can connect to the internet. I can ping intranet IPs, I do receive name resolution for intranet sites, yet I cannot ping them or open any intranet site in a browser (configured to use the distributions proxy) unless I use the site's IP address. I tried blocking the intranet IP range in the CNTLM config file without luck.

• IIS7 folder permissions

  I build a basic WCF service that I now want to host in IIS7 under Windows Server 2008 R2. I added the service as an application under the default web site but whenever i try to run the application I get the following error: HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. Config Error - Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions The only way I can get this service working is if i choose to "connect as" the server Administrator when adding the service. the "application user (pass-through authentication)" option does not seem to work. Could anyone help me out, I've just started using IIS7 and have no idea what to do... Thanks

• ReadyNAS issue with Google Apps?

  The power went out (again) in my house today so I decided to set up some alerting. Since I have a ReadyNAS and the latest version of Raidinator seems to have SMTP TLS support, I figured I would try setting things up to email to a domain I have hosted on Google Apps. At this point, I have everything working IF I use a Gmail account but as soon as I switch to a Google Apps email address, it stops working and complains with smtpstatus=535 smtpmsg='535-5.7.1 Username and Password not accepted. Google's extremely aggressive captcha does not help but I am able to log in now without a captcha from a browser so I'm open to any ideas why the simple switch of a user/password combo that is supposed to work does not. I'm also attaching my config so that others can see how to set things up.

  I need to prevent clients of an Huawei E586 UMTS to WiFi modem from downloading much data from specific servers eg. Windows update or OSX update. On the config page of the device there's an "LAN IP Filter" which seems pretty good but I can't figure out the right settings. The mask looks like this: The help pages states the following: My problem with this is, I want some wildcard for the local ip and port. In my opinion the help page can not be correct by "lan port: enter 80" because the source port is normally dynamic. I tried to set it up like stated there but as expected it doesn't work. As wildcards I tried * and "ALL" but nothing worked as it prevents me from saving settings with an "wrong value" error. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

So every URL like http://example.com/* should server a static html file, like /var/www/example/foo.html. Trying to specify that in my nginx config is giving me fits and infinite loops and whatnot. I'm trying things like location / { root /var/www/example; index foo.html; rewrite ^/.+$ foo.html; } How would you get every URL on your domain to serve a single static file?

  Reluctant to ask because there is so much here about 'postfix relay access denied' but I cannot find my case: I use php (Zend Framework) to send emails outside my network using the Google mail server because I could not send mail outside my server (user: web). However when I sent out an email via cron (user: root, I believe), still using ZF, using the same mail config/credentials, I get the message: '5.7.1 Relay access denied' I guess I need to know one of two things: 1. How can I use the google smtp server from cron 2. What do I need to change in my config to send mail using my own server instead of google Though the answer to 2. is the more structural solution I assume, I am quite happy with an answer to 1. as well because I think Google is better at server maintaince (security/spam) than I am. I'm not really a perl user beyond enjoying it for massive directory-recursive find/replace operations within text files, so I haven't much of an idea what the permissions here are supposed to look like, and I'm not really sure how to go about determining how macports has gone and installed perl this way when it's otherwise worked without failure for years now. Does anyone have any recommendations for the sanest path towards rectifying this issue? Also, is there any interesting reason as to why the macports default for the perl5 port installs 5.12.4, and not 5.16.0, which has to be explicitly installed via the perl5.16 port? Thanks again!

• Trouble with cross network permissions for an image through iis7 in an asp.net virtual directory

  I have load balanced web servers My web application has a function that allows the user to upload their company logo to display in the application header obviously, when they upload the logo image file, it needs to be in a central location or otherwise, the file will not be accessible to the other server on the load balancer. in order to be able to upload the image through the application other on one of either servers and then display it on both servers I need a virtual directory in IIS on both servers that point to a third "file server" (this is the "AcctData" directory shown below with a sub folder "images") the problem is that no matter what I do, I run into a permissioning issue If I use pass-through authentication I get a 401 error. If I use a specific user that's set up on both boxes, I get a 500 error. The "Default" application under "CP" (shown in the image below) uses an AppPool that is a Domain Account that has admin permissions on all the servers. I've also tried sticking a Web.config file in the "AcctData" directory allowing anonymous access. Nothing is working though.

  I want to ask, and ask advice from you guys. I have reinstall my OS and successful, I'm turn off the restart a few times is fine .. Later a few hours later, when I turn it on, a sudden there was an error : Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM Select 'R' at the first screen to start repair. So I intend to repair, reinstall all again .. I enter cd windows : press any key .. with blue background text below: Setup is loading files (windows executive) Setup is loading files (hardware abstraction layer) Then I was waiting until half an hour, and no changes, I repeated the process several times is also nil. Please advice and solutions about the problem where? Hardware / cd Windows ?
