  Most of you have heard about OpenStack and the annouced integration into Oracle Solaris 11.2 and about OpenStack support for Oracle Linux and Oracle VM. • Radeon HD5570 HDMI Video Card 5.1 Audio doesn't work

  I am using Ubuntu and XMBC on my HTPC and have chosen the Radeon HD5570 Video card which has an HDMI output. In the sound preferences there is no surround sound option for the video card just stereo and although I can get sound through it in XBMC, my receiver does not state Dolby Digital on movies that are in fact Dolby so its definitely not giving me the true sound it should. Does this card not support surround sound through HDMI and I somehow missed it? If that is the case does anyone have suggestion that has been tested and works? Id like to know its going to work before investing in yet another video card. UPDATE I purchased a Nvidia GeForce GTS 450, plugged it in, downloaded the proprietary driver from the system control panel, disabled the onboard audio from the BIOS (not sure if this was necessary but I did it anyways), and changed the sound settings to use the new video card. Everything works flawlessly. It was a seemless setup.

• Installing Ubuntu 12.10 with encrypted root and encrypted /home on separate partition

  Is it possible to have Ubuntu 12.10 with an encrypted root partition and an encrypted home partition (using preferably the same encryption mechanism)? This question is somewhat the same: How do I install Ubuntu with encrypted root, home, and swap partitions? But is not answered. As I am using a dualboot setup I can not use the automatic partitioner (which doesn't support your /home on a separate disk/partition anyway). So I would have to configure some things manually. How would I do this?

• Ubuntu 12.04 on MBPro, Early 2011, options

  I have a 2.2 GHz i7, 4GB MacBook Pro 8.3, AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB, Early 2011. As far as I see I have two options, running Ubuntu on this hardware: VMWare/Virtualbox and Ubuntu in a VM, I already ordered a 16G RAM upgrade for this. Wipe OSX and go Ubuntu native, with 16G RAM, yay ! I'm kinda leaning towards option 2 as I tend to spend 90% of my time in dev VM's at work anyway. All my other machines at home, and most at work are Ubuntu/Linux as well. I have a Mac mini on standby for the odd Itunes backup/sync. If I don't have to keep OSX around, I would like to get rid of it altogether. Ubuntu support on Mac hardware seems to be a hit and miss affair as far as I can tell. Does anyone have good success running a recent version of Ubuntu on this hardware ? Thanks

• Temenos WealthManager: performance benchmark on Exadata

  Temenos WealthManager is at work in financial institutions of all sizes. No matter the size, each of Temenos’ customers has one requirement in common: a need for fast technology. This led Temenos to conduct a performance benchmark, running its WealthManager platform on Oracle Exadata Database Machine. During the study, Temenos executed high-intensity financial engines two- to three-times faster than its previous internal benchmarks and/or largest customer throughput. The company also demonstrated greater than two-times the average improvement in response times for six-times the number of users and data volumes. Further, Temenos secured a two-times gain in service-level agreements for batch and user-oriented workloads via dedicated or parallelized processing windows. Last year Temenos also communicated the availability of its T24 core banking system and how the benchmark run demonstrated the ability of Oracle’s Exadata platform to comfortably support the highest banking volumes for T24. • New Development Snapshot

  I finished all the .NET 4.0 security model changes. If you build from source, you can now (optionally) build on .NET 4.0 and get native .NET 4.0 assemblies that use the new .NET 4.0 security model (and also experimental class gc support). The .NET 2.0 binaries also work on .NET 4.0. This is probably the final development snapshot before the first 0.44 release candidate and it has been tested more than a typical development snapshot. • Windows Telephone Scam Continues to Circulate

  Microsoft addressed the scam via a blog post during the middle of last year. Cyberthieves call homes in English-speaking countries after finding their phone numbers in telephone directories. The callers usually identify themselves as engineers from Windows Support or other legitimate-sounding organizations.   For customers using Oracle Secure Global Desktop version 4.6x, one of the issues reported is the improper rendering of the administration console when using modern browser versions such as Safari 5, Firefox 4+ or Internet Explorer 9. We are pleased to provide a fix for use of these modern browser versions when using Oracle Secure Global Desktop 4.6x. Please refer to Doc ID 1367923.1 on My Oracle Support. The solution involves a new .jar file, oracletheme.jar and following a few simple instructions. We are currently using the Ext 4.0 framework but there are questions being raised that it may not be the right framework to use. I like what Ext has to offer (rich GUIs, data package and class system) are there other frameworks out there that are similar? Are there frameworks out there tailored to medium/large software companies? Info: Potentially 100's of developers converting thick client screens to the web.   I have hard time solving my problem. I have searched the net but nothing worked... I just installed the newest ver of ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop dell latitude d630. Everything works fine but it seems i dont have my video card drivers installed. I have some standart drivers. I try to check out my xorg.conf file but its missing i try to make one from root but it gives me critical error. Its like i dont have X11 installed can some1 please help me here are some of the things ive tryed... • Quadrant for SQL Server 2008, not earlier versions

  I had forgotten that you can use SQL Server Modeling’s awesome Quadrant tool only with SQL Server 2008, not earlier versions of SQL Server. I tried to connect to a remotely hosted database today and kept getting this error message when trying to open tables: I searched and searched for information on "Quadrant" plus this error and only came up with two results that were from 2008.   I have just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I have a problem with it. My mini-laptop has a display resolution of 800x480, however Ubuntu seems to support only a resolution of 800x600. I have looked for a solution, but I have found nothing which works. So, how can I set the display resolution to 800x480? hey, hola a todos!   I was just wondering what design Namecheap.com is using for their site. I asked their support personnel and I suppose the employees aren't generally aware. It really looks like a customized wordpress site, but I was wondering if anyone here knew any more details about their setup. Been googling for it but the problem is, since namecheap DEALS with CMS's/web design for their business, you'll get google hits regarding their business rather than describing their site itself. Just interested. If anyone's got any info on it let me know.

• Any chance for fully working X1600 PCI-E ID 71c3/Unity under Ubuntu 12.04?

  How can I get Unity working under an ATI Radeon X1600 PCI-E on Ubuntu 12.04? I'm rather Windows guy, but I can do some things with CLI. ATI seems to have ended support for this card for both Windows and Linux. Theres no proper driver in jockey; binary driver from Software Center doesn't give Unity, just Unity 2D. Yes, I've tried the commands from this post - without any positive results; should I try installing drivers manually?

• Sending Mass Emails

  I have a massive list of users who registered for accounts and opted into a mailing list on my web site and I am interested in sending out a weekly newsletter. How should I go about doing this. I tried sending it out through my host server, but I received a notice stating that if I did it again they would kick me off the server. Are there any good companies that are designed for this type of thing? I need to find a company that will support this and show me some sort of report about how many emails get opened, deleted, opened then deleted, etc. Any recommendations?
