• Eclipse -vm option trouble

  I'm having trouble setting up a new eclipse installation with the -vm option. I'm using the eclipse.ini file below (which has worked in the past). I need this for the m2eclipse plugin. Currently, if I include the -vm option eclipse fails to start. • Taking learning into account in a development process

  How to deal with the fact that you don't know the language/framework in a development process? For instance, suppose a group of Java developers are about to start a .NET project, they don't know the platform well and might end up finding solutions that the framework already solves or solves better. The sort of questions I have are: which are the best practices in this case? Is RTFM before going on a good pratice? When should one stop RTFM and start asking/searching/playing? Is not RTFM and just searching/asking/playing a good practice? What about estimatives? I'd like to hear from your experience :-)

  hi, i am having this hard time figuring what is needed to do, i am using URLVariables to send/recieve values between flash and PHP the problem is, i am unable to access nested arrays ( array inside an array ) with flash heres an example: $dgresult = array("total" = $results); echo http_build_query($dgresult,"flf_"); in flash, all i need to do is to use: var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables(e.target.data); then i can access it with : variables.total the problem now is when i have nested arrays: $dgresult = array("total" = $results); array_push($dgresult,$another_array); http_build_query($dgresult,"flf_"); i can still access variables.total but what about anything that has flf_ ? how is that possible?

• Floodfill with "layers"

  What I want is to create a vector drawing program with layers, but to avoid using transparency / opacity, I want to draw each shape from lowest layer to highest layer onto a single bitmap. For the filling, I want to floodfill the shape. My issue is that, if I have a shape that is drawn then floodfilled, then the next shape overlaps it a bit and that new shape's border is the same as the other one's then floodfill will only partially fill it. Is there a way given a shape's coordinates that I can find the actual bounds for floodfill rather than use a target color? Thanks

• Merge Microsoft Word documents with TortoiseSVN

  TortoiseSVN has a nice VBA script that allows to merge Microsoft Word documents using Word builtin change tracking functionality. This way, when I merge changes from a branch into the trunk I can resolve the conflicts in Word documents. However, the feature is not as useful as it could because it doesn't track revision changes; it just compares the two documents as a whole. This way, when I merge a revision where one paragraph was added to the document I'm not offered to review this paragraph. Instead, I have to review all the differences between the source and target documents (including stuff like TOC bookmark names). Is it an inherent limitation I cannot override? Or is it due to the fact that my Word version is pretty old? (I'm using Word 2002). Also, if you know about a magic tool or plugin... ;-)

• How can I get the Visual Studio 2010 converstion wizard to come back up?

  When I first opened my website project with Visual Studio 2010 the conversion wizard came up and I said that I didn't want to convert the project. Now I'm ready to convert the project, but I can't find a shortcut or a way to get it back? I tried to remove the suo file, and that didn't do it. If I go into the project properties I can switch the target framework to 4.0, but that tells me it's going to close and reopen the project and I'll have to adjust the pages by hand - doesn't seem like very much fun. Anyone know how to get it to prompt again, or even a command line that would run it? Thank you!

  Hi, I have some *.cpp source files and some *.s ARM assembler files I want to assemble and link in my Android.mk file (by running ndk-build script). Stop. In a "normal" makefile I would have to assemble by using "as" in a rule. How is it done in the Android.mk files? /Kim

  I have a link shortener system (Yourls) set up so you can go to the short url with ?url=[xyz] (where [xyz] is the url you wan to shorten) added to the end will shorten the URL. I want to add a link to a separate page (on my MediaWiki wiki) that shortens the permalink of the page that it is on. I need to add the button to my template in a way that will add the URL of the current page to the link. MediaWiki is a PHP platform, so that is preferred (but JavaScript is fine too). How can I do this? (I apologize if this is confusing)

• Multilangual Unicode rendering in opengl

  Hi Folks, I have to extend an OpenGL-Rendering System to support international characters (especially Hebrew, Arabic and cyrillic). Development Platform is Windows(XP|Vista|7), Alas using Embercardero Delphi 2010. I currently use wglOutLineFont(...) to build my font's display list and glCallLists(length(m_Text), UNSIGNED_SHORT, PWchar(m_Text) ) to render my strings. While this is feasable for Latin-1 Characters, building the full unicode character set in advanced is pretty time-consuming (about 8.5 minutes on my machine), so i am looking for a more efficient solution. I thought about limiting the range from u+0020 - u+077f (latin, greek, cyrillic, arbaic and hebrew) to include just the glyphs i need, but that would just be a solution for my current needs, and will become insufficent once other encoding is needed. On the upside, i do not have to worry about left-to right or right-to left direction as our application can handle this already. I would expect this to be a well-known problem, so i would like to ask if there is any reference material on this on the web, or if you could share some insight on this?

  Hello, which is the best approach to include a static library with into an application for iPhone or iPad? I could choose to compile the library supplying right platform and building a library file with the ar utility and then add as a framework to the project including the source of the library .c/.h and compile them together with the application The first approach seems simpler, because I won't care about managing all specific settings of the library I want to include but how can I create the library both for iPhone and iPad and allow xcode to use the right library upon linking? The second approach seems more complex since xcode will take care about compiling my application and the library (with different settings I suppose) then how should I go? I can easily add sources of the lib but I'll have to include the make scripts to allow xcode use them to build in the right way. Any suggestions about how to proceed? The library I'm trying to include is libssh. (I know that this library, of course, has already been compiled and tried succesfully on iPhone) Thanks in advance.

  Hi guys, I'm unhappy from GAE because - One can't have a global variable and the 'synchronize' keyword. Instead one have to catch a basically DB transcational exception and retry in a while loop - which will eat all my free CPU time and will start costing me money as I reach the google's qouata. Is it safe to use synchronize inside a doPost() in tomcat? (i guess that it's ok as long as all the servlets are running on on 1 VM?). If not in all tomcat configurations, how do I configure tomcat to make it safe? How can I convert a GAE app to my own tomcat server? - How to install DataNucleus Access Platform on tomcat? • GTK+ (GTKSharp) poor performance in Windows

  Hi, In my Mono (C#) project that is meant to be cross-platform, I am using the GTK for the UI. However one thing I noticed is, on my netbook in Archlinux, the performance is really speedy, so events such as mouse hover, and redrawing of widgets, etc, are really fast. Compared to windows (7) on dual core CPUs, the performance is really really weak. Which perplexes me. Am I doing something wrong that is warranting this difference in performance between OSes? What are some ways I can do to optimize GTK on Windows? Its really bad to take around 0.5 secs for a hover event to kick in whereas its almost immediate on a weak(er) netbook with Linux. • Installing a new SQL Server instance fails

  I've previously in my setup installed SQL Server Express 2005. Now I've switched to SQL Server Express 2008. I updated the command line parameters to those documented for the latter. If the comp already has SQL Server Express 2008 installed, my installer should create a new instance. The command line parameters are as follows: /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /QS /INSTANCENAME=ABCD /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=CunningPassword The requested instance name does not exist on the target machine. This will end in an error -2068643838. The logs show the following error: "No features were installed during the setup execution. The requested features may already be installed." If I remove the /QS parameter and try to install interactively, I'll get as far as the Feature Selection page. The UI shows three options, Instance Features, Shared Features and Redistributable Features. Whatever I select, clicking Next results in the same error (There are validation errors on this page). • Problem with javascript in firefox when moving google ads

  hi. i have a website with google ads on it. i would like to make it load faster. thus i moved all the google scripts to the bottom of the page. i also have a placeholder at the location where the ad(s) should be displayed and other divs that (initially) get the ads. finally (in window.onload) i'm moving the ads that have just be fetched from google to their target locations. (a simple example page is here: http://www.nickles.de/temp/ads.html ) this works in ie, but it doesn't work in ff. (that is, in firefox, non-text ads show up fine, while text-ads don't. • MSNP-Sharp Example fails to login, gives SocketException

  I've just downloaded the MSNP-Sharp library with the aim of creating my own messaging client, however I am struggling to get the example to sign in. The code all compiles and runs, but when I provide my login details and select "Login" I almost immediately get the following SocketException: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 64.4.9.254:1863" I've stepped through the code and it's the messenger.Connect() function that is causing this, somewhat obviously. When I run the example I only change the login and password details. I am running Windows 7 x86 with the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. I have tried disabling my antivirus, even going as far as to temporarily uninstall it in case that was the error. I have also tried disabling Windows Firewall, with no luck.

But when I go to Help-Install New Software I can't find any software update site that is hosting WTP. My default "Available Software Sites" are Helios, Mylyn for Eclipse Helios, and the Eclipse Project Updates. Do I need to add a new software update site to install WTP? If so, what is the URL? Is there an available API or functionality in cocoa where i can communicate with my GSM Phone to listen to any incoming SMS messages and be able to send messages myself.   Does anyone know of a library that enables you to run an application inside some kind of sandbox, with virtual mouse and keyboard support. The use case would be to create some kind of visual test runner, that would replay all actions taken during recording and play them back. So far I found autopy, but the fact that it controls the real mouse position is problematic, because it prevents user interaction with other tools (debugger or anything) while running. Cross platform would be nice, but either windows or os x is fine. Python would be ideal but anything that you could create python bindings for would be ok too.

  HI, I'm completely new to Bash and StackOverflow. I need to move a set of files (all contained in the same folder) to a target folder where files with the same name could already exist. In case a specific file exists, I need to rename the file before moving it, by appending for example an incremental integer to the file name. The extensions should be preserved. The file names could contain dots in the middle. Originally, I was thinking about comparing the two folders to have a list of the existing files (I did this with "comm"), but then I got a bit stuck. I think I'm just trying to do things in the most complicated possible way. Any hint to do this in the "bash way"?
