• Git: How to remove file from index without deleting files from any repository

  When you use git rm --cached myfile it doesn't delete from the local filesystem, which is my goal. But once you commit the changes, push them to a central repository, then pull them into another yet another repository it still deletes the file from that system. Is there a way to just remove the file from the index without deleting it from any filesystem?

  hi i wonder if there are some GUI softwares to administrate a svn repo? or do you actually have to log into the ubuntu server with ssh and use all the svn commands to copy the trunk to a branch, merge the data back and forth, copy to a tag, delete and so on. im using netbeans in mac. i think it's only handling the communication between a local project and the repo. not the flows between trunc, branch and tag (creating, deleting, viewing differences etc)

I use the Camera.getCamera() method and in turn Camera.names to get a list of camera attached with the system. Unfortunately, if the camera is already in use by another application, say a desktop application on user's system, the browser is crashed. Is there any way that I can detect if a specific camera from the list of available camera is already in use by any other application?

• When does post-update get called (GIT)

  My git setup was working beautifully, then stopped cooperating today. Right now, I can git-pull, git commit just fine from my local machine. When I git push, the push goes through, but the server files don't actually get updated. Now I wonder, is my post-update file even getting called anymore?   I am creating a Windwos Installer project just for the use of installing our third party assemblies into the gac of the users computer. The problem i am running into, is when i make an update to the assemblie and increment it's version number, i get an error saying: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue..." I would have figured that windows installer would update the local machine with the new assemblie. Am i doing something wrong?

  I am using M2Eclipse (0.10.0, Maven 3)in projects. I can add Maven dependency using m2eclipse. But dependency jars couldn't be downloaded. Instead, it created a file in each local repo folder named [JAR_Name].jar.lastupdate. The content of this file is some thing like : http\://[REPO_URL]/central/=1276221188566 Even using Maven 3 command line. Jars couldn't be downloaded. Any idea about how could this happen?
