• PHP Installer Script

  I'm looking to create a fully functional installer for a slightly complicated web application using PHP. Basically, you go to URL/setup.php and you are asked a series of questions, and during the process a database is set up and a config file is populated according to the answers given. A good example of this is how Wordpress handles its install procedure, as well as any number of PHP applications. My question to you, oh great internet, is this: This technique is so prevalent that surely not everyone is re-inventing the wheel, is there a place I can go to find a basic walkthrough (not code, just a description) of the technique. Either that or a good book which outlines if not this specific technique, then the fundamentals relevant to this? I can bang out something ugly and probably make it work myself, but if there's a best known method I'd like to find it. Far more important than having a working function is to have a description of what's going on from step to step. I'd like to have the installer, but I really want to learn how it's done. • ResourceFilterFactory and non-Path annotated Resources

  (I'm using Jersey 1.7) I am attempting to add a ResourceFilterFactory in my project to select which filters are used per method using annotations. The ResourceFilterFactory seems to be able to filters on Resources which are annotated with the Path annotation but it would seem that it does not attempt to generate filters for the methods of the SubResourceLocator of the resources that are called. @Path("a") public class A { //sub resource locator? @Path("b") public B getB() { return new B(); } @GET public void doGet() {} } public class B { @GET public void doOtherGet() { } @Path("c") public void doInner() { } } When ran, the Filter factory will only be called for the following: AbstractResourceMethod(A#doGet) AbstractSubResourceLocator(A#getB) When I expected it to be called for every method of the sub resource. • ASP.NET Login Control rejects users who exist

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with the ASP.NET 2.0 Login Control. I've setup a database with the aspI.net regsql tool. I've checked the application name. It is set to "/". The application can access the SQL Server. In fact, when I go to retrieve the password, it will even send me the password. Despite this, the login control continues to reject logins. • Multiple inputs on a single line with Twitter Bootstrap and Simple Form 2.0

  I am using simple_form 2.0 with twitter bootstrap. • Python: Convert format string to regular expression

  The users of my app can configure the layout of certain files via a format string. For example, the config value the user specifies might be: layout = '%(group)s/foo-%(locale)s/file.txt' I now need to find all such files that already exist. This seems easy enough using the glob module: glob_pattern = layout % {'group': '*', 'locale': '*'} glob.glob(glob_pattern) However, now comes the hard part: Given the list of glob results, I need to get all those filename-parts that matched a given placeholder, for example all the different "locale" values. I thought I would generate a regular expression for the format string that I could then match against the list of glob results (or then possibly skipping glob and doing all the matching myself). But I can't find a nice way to create the regex with both the proper group captures, and escaping the rest of the input. For example, this might give me a regex that matches the locales: regex = layout % {'group': '.*', 'locale': (.*)} But to be sure the regex is valid, I need to pass it through re.escape(), which then also escapes the regex syntax I have just inserted. Calling re.escape() first ruins the format string. I know there's fnmatch.translate(), which would even give me a regex - but not one that returns the proper groups. Is there a good way to do this, without a hack like replacing the placeholders with a regex-safe unique value etc.? Is there possibly some way (a third party library perhaps?) that allows dissecting a format string in a more flexible way, for example splitting the string at the placeholder locations?

• Regular Expression to replace a pattern at runtime(C#3.0)

  I have a requirement. I have some files in a folder among which some file names looks like say **EUDataFiles20100503.txt, MigrateFiles20101006.txt.** Basically these are the files that I need to work upon. Now I have a config file where it is mentioned as the file pattern type as EUDataFilesYYYYMMDD, MigrateFilesYYYYMMDD. Basically the idea is that, the user can configure the file pattern and based on the pattern mentioned, I need to search for those files that are present in the folder. i.e. at runtime the YYYYMMDD will get replaced by the Year Month and Date Values. It does not matter what dates will be there(but not with time stamp ; only dates)). And the EUDataFiles or MigrateFiles names will be there.(they are fixed) i.e. If the folder has a file name as EUDataFile20100504.txt(i.e. Year 2010, Month 05, Day 04) , I should ignore this file as it is not EUDataFiles20100504.txt (kindly note that the name is plural - File(s) and not file for which the system will ignore the file). Similarly, if the Pattern given as EUDataFilesYYYYMMDD and if the file present is of type EUDataFilesYYYYDDMM then also the system should ignore. How can I solve this problem? Is it doable using regular expression(Replacing the pattern at runtime)? If so can anyone be good enough in helping me out? I am using C#3.0 and dotnet framework 3.5. Thanks

• Issues with intellisense, references, and builds in Visual Studio 2008

  Hoping you can help me -- the strangest thing seems to have happened with my VS install. System config: Windows 7 Pro x64, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, C#, ASP.NET 3.5. I have two web site projects in a solution. I am referencing NUnit / NHibernate (did this by right-clicking on the project and selecting "Add Reference". I've done this for several projects in the past). Things were working fine but recently stopped working and I can't figure out why. Intellisense completely disappears for any files in my App_Code directory, and none of the references are recognized (they are recognized by any file in the root directory of the web site project. Additionally, pretty simple commands like the following (in Page_Load) fail (assume TextBox1 is definitely an element on the page): if (Page.IsPostBack) { str test1; test1 = TextBox1.Text; } It says that all the page elements are null or that it can't access them. At first I thought it was me, but due to the combination of issues, it seems to be Visual Studio itself. I've tried clearing the temp directories & rebuilding the solution. I've also tried tools -- options -- text editor settings to ensure intellisense is turned on. I'd appreciate any help you can give!

  I'm using Joomla 1.5 to create a local site for my office. The site will be accessed locally via intranet, and my PC will be the localhost for the site. I'm using a Login pluggin, so that anyone who wanted to enter the site should create an account. In JOOMLA, all user who created their account for the first time will receive a notification e-mail like : "Hello pras, You have been added as a User to Information Center by an Administrator. This e-mail contains your username and password to log in to http://localhost/yaddayadda/ Username: hadisuryo.prasetio Password: xxxx Please do not respond to this message as it is automatically generated and is for information purposes only." but if the user click the URL in the mail, which is, "localhost/yaddayadda/" they will not be directed to my site, but to their own PC's localhost.... My question is : How can I Modified the e-mail or the site configuration so that the URL will not be "localhost/yaddayadda/" anymore, but will be "(My-IP adress)/yaddayadda" I'm not going to host my site to a web hosting service, just using my PC as a host. I've been trying to trace on each config and .ini files...it seems that i have to do something with the "JURI" function or the "$mosConfig_live_site" on the backlink.php file $mosConfig_absolute_path = JPATH_SITE; $mosConfig_live_site = JURI :: base(); $url_array = explode('/', $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']); Can anyone give me assistance ?   Hello I have a number of rich:inplaceInput tags in RichFaces which represent numbers in an array. The validator allows integers only. When a user clicks in an input and changes a value, how can I get the bean to sort the array given the new number and reRender the list of rich:inplaceInput tags so that they're in numerical order? The table is complicated and I've specified id="Admin" (ie the whole table) to reRender as I've not found a way to send more localised values to the backing bean through the inplaceInput. This question is about how to use a4j:support action attribute to call the sort method so that when the reRender rerenders the component, it outputs the list in sorted order. I have the sort method working ok when I click a button to sort, but I want to have the list sorted automatically as soon as a new valid value is entered into the inplaceInput component. Thanks

• Avoid existing files being overwritten when newer version is installed.

  Hello I have a VS2008 windows application project (WinProject) which is deployed by the installation project (InstallationProject) which inturn has the property RemovePreviousVersions set to True. In my app for each configuration made by an user, the winapp writes the configurations into an xml file (stored in C:\Application Name\Files\ folder) which also includes the path where the config was saved. Now when I build new versions of the installer,This folder and the files are overwritten since i the flag AlwaysCreate is set to True. My question is how can i avoid these older files from being overwritten and at the same time shall get the updated file from the installer. Ex: Contents of the file <PriceFiles> <Name>arr</Name> <Path>C:\NewTool\arr.xml</Path> <UserDefined>true</UserDefined> </PriceFiles> <ReferenceProjects> <Name>studio</Name> <Path>C:\NewTool\ReferenceProjects\6cd3a9e9-ad65-475e-953b-128915a496cd.xml</Path> <UserDefined>true</UserDefined> <CreatedBy>Admin</CreatedBy> </ReferenceProjects> Thanks in advance

• How do I use a custom cookie session serializer in Rack?

  Hello SO. I'm currently integrating Warden into a new Rack application I'm building. I'd like to implement a recent patch to Rack that allows me to specify how sessions are serialized; specifically, I'd like to use Rack::Session::Cookie::Identity as the session processor. • Why are my connections not closed even if I explicitly dispose of the DataContext?

  I encapsulate my linq to sql calls in a repository class which is instantiated in the constructor of my overloaded controller. The constructor of my repository class creates the data context so that for the life of the page load, only one data context is used. In my destructor of the repository class I explicitly call the dispose of the DataContext though I do not believe this is necessary. Using performance monitor, if I watch my User Connections count and repeatedly load a page, the number increases once per page load. Connections do not get closed or reused (for about 20 minutes). I tried putting Pooling=false in my config to see if this had any effect but it did not. In any case with pooling I wouldn't expect a new connection for every load, I would expect it to reuse connections. I've tried putting a break point in the destructor to make sure the dispose is being hit and sure enough it is. So what's happening? Some code to illustrate what I said above: The controller: public class MyController : Controller { protected MyRepository rep; public MyController () { rep = new MyRepository(); } } The repository: public class MyRepository { protected MyDataContext dc; public MyRepository() { dc = getDC(); } ~MyRepository() { if (dc != null) { //if (dc.Connection.State != System.Data.ConnectionState.Closed) //{ // dc.Connection.Close(); //} dc.Dispose(); } } // etc } Note: I add a number of hints and context information to the DC for auditing purposes. • Can not access response.body inside after filter block in Sinatra 1.0

  I'm struggling with a strange issue. According to http://github.com/sinatra/sinatra (secion Filters) a response object is available in after filter blocks in Sinatra 1.0. However the response.status is correctly accessible, I can not see non-empty response.body from my routes inside after filter. I have this rackup file: config.ru require 'app' run TestApp Then Sinatra 1.0.b gem installed using: gem install --pre sinatra And this is my tiny app with a single route: app.rb require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra/base' class TestApp < Sinatra::Base set :root, File.dirname(__FILE__) get '/test' do 'Some response' end after do halt 500 if response.empty? # used 500 just for illustation end end And now, I would like to access the response inside the after filter. When I run this app and access /test URL, I got a 500 response as if the response is empty, but the response clearly is 'Some response'. Along with my request to /test, a separate request to /favicon.ico is issued by the browser and that returns 404 as there is no route nor a static file. But I would expect the 500 status to be returned as the response should be empty. In console, I can see that within the after filter, the response to /favicon.ico is something like 'Not found' and response to /test really is empty even though there is response returned by the route. What do I miss?

  I am looking to code a file storage application in perl similar to amazon s3. I already have a amazon s3 clone that I found online called parkplace but its in ruby and is old also isn't built for high loads. I am not really sure what modules and programs I should use so id like some help picking them out. My requirements are listed below (yes I know there are lots but I could start simple then add more once I get it going): Easy API implementation for client side apps. (maybe RESTful but extras like mkdir and cp (?) Centralized database server for the USERDB (maybe PostgreSQL (?). Logging of all connections, bandwidth used, well pretty much everything to a centralized server (maybe PostgreSQL again (?). Easy server side configuration (config file(s) stored on the servers). Web based control panel for admin(s) and user(s) to show logs. (could work just running queries from the databases) Fast High Uptime Low memory usage Some sort of load distribution/load balancer (maybe a dns based or pound or perlbal or something else (?). Maybe a cache of some sort (memcached or parlbal or something else (?). Thanks in advance

• To what extent should code try to explain fatal exceptions?

  I suspect that all non-trivial software is likely to experience situations where it hits an external problem it cannot work around and thus needs to fail. This might be due to bad configuration, an external server being down, disk full, etc. In these situations, especially if the software is running in non-interactive mode, I expect that all one can really do is log an error and wait for the admin to read the logs and fix the problem. If someone happens to interact with the software in the meantime, e.g. a request comes in to a server that failed to initialize properly, then perhaps an appropriate hint can be given to check the logs and maybe even the error can be echoed (depending on whether you can tell if they're a technical guy as opposed to a business user). For the moment though let's not think too hard about this part. My question is, to what extent should the software be responsible for trying to explain the meaning of the fatal error? In general, how much competence/knowledge are you allowed to presume on administrators of the software, and how much should you include troubleshooting information and potential resolution steps when logging fatal errors? Of course if there's something that's unique to the runtime context this should definitely be logged; but lets assume your software needs to talk to Active Directory via LDAP and gets back an error "[LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C090334, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 525, vece]". Is it reasonable to assume that the maintainers will be able to Google the error code and work out what it means, or should the software try to parse the error code and log that this is caused by an incorrect user DN in the LDAP config? I don't know if there is a definitive best-practices answer for this, so I'm keen to hear a variety of views.

  I would like create URL rewrite rule that will set default document for my virtual folders. eg. someting like this www.domain.com/en/ -> www.domain.com/en/index.aspx www.domain.com/hr/ -> www.domain.com/hr/index.aspx www.domain.com/de/ -> www.domain.com/de/index.aspx directories en, hr, de doesn't really exists on web server they are just markers for languange used in site used by home grown http module that will rewrite path with query params. Quick solution was define rule for every single lang, something like this : <rewrite> <rewriteMaps> <rewriteMap name="Langs"> <add key="/en" value="/en/index.aspx" /> <add key="/hr" value="/hr/index.aspx" /> <add key="/de" value="/de/index.aspx" /> </rewriteMap> </rewriteMaps> <rules> But I would really like solution that would not require changes in web.config and adding rewrite rule for every languange used on particular site. • How do I relocate assemblies from a deployment project without breaking application references?

  Hi, I have recently refactored a lot of my applications existing code and I am now looking at tidying up the deployment side of things. The existing installer application installs everything in the application folder (with the exclusion of a couple of config files which are located in a sub folder). However, I have multiple applications which all use some common assemblies and my goal is to relocate a these particular assemblies to the "Common Files" folder in the program files directory. NB: I have read a lot about the GAC but I have no experience with it and also read a few horror stories, so trying to get a simple solution for the time being. I managed to get the assemblies installed into the Common Files folder, however, as a result (typical I.T.) I have broken my app! If I copy the assemblies back into the application folder it works fine so the problem is obviously to do with how my app is referencing the assemblies. To get the installer to install the assemblies into the Common Files folder I just updated the Folder property of each assembly in the Detected Dependencies list. My thoughts were when I did that the installer would somehow update my application to tell it to look in that folder for them but that doens't appear to be the case. What exactly am I doing wrong here?

• Spring can't find a lib and webapp doesn't start up in tomcat 6

  I've this problem using STS: I'm building a simple Spring app, just to try out features like MVC and persistence. Now I've created something very simple, out of a bunch of tutorials for Spring 3, that I'm using. The application fails with this, during server startup: Code: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.annotation.DefaultAnnotationHandlerMapping#0': Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.CannotLoadBeanClassException: Cannot find class [org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.annotation.AnnotationSessionFactoryBean] for bean with name 'mySessionFactory' defined in ServletContext resource [/WEB-INF/spring/appServlet/servlet-context.xml]; nested exception is java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.annotation.AnnotationSessionFactoryBean but I've org.springframework.orm in web-inf/classes folder (I even tried putting it in web-inf/lib). As I copied these libs there, the came out in Web App Libraries folder. Building this project in STS works fine as this dependency is set up in build path throught project properties, but how do I transfer the libs to the web app? • SVN 409 conflict on commits and updates

  We have been using SVN for the past year now and when we migrated to an online server we started getting this error: Commit: Commit failed (details follow): File or directory 'x.php' is out of date; try updating resource out of date; try updating CHECKOUT of '/!svn/ver/491/x.php': 409 Conflict (http://svn.example.com) We are currently using SmartSVN 6.5 and we have also tested with RapidSVN & Syncro (but we can't use tortoise as we have a lot of Ubunutu users) at the begining I though this How do you fix an SVN 409 Conflict Error would help, but it didn't we are still facing the same error and it's even more absurd now. the main problem is that after you get the error, you can't shake it of. Updating doesn't solve, reverting doesn't solve. You are just stuck with the error. • Debugging an XBAP application with 64-bit browser

  We have an XBAP application that fails when opened in Internet Explorer 8 64 bit. We only get a pretty generic error which makes it hard to determine where the error is coming from. I'm trying to find a way to debug the application with IE 8 64 bit, but I haven't figured out how to do this. I can't set the 64 bit version as the standard browser and overwriting the browser path in the browsers.xml for Visual Studio doesn't work as well. It just gets overwritten as soon as I hit F5 to debug to point to the 32 bit IE. I have figured out how to start the application from Debug with the 64 bit browser by changing the Debug options from "Start browser with URL" to "Start external program" and setting the command line arguments to point to the bin folder. Unfortunately then the XBAP is looking for its config.deploy file which doesn't seem to be generated during regular debug. This doesn't happen when using "Start browser with URL" and the application doesn't seem to care for this file then. Does anybody know why there's a difference between "Start browser with URL" and "Start external program" in the Debug options which might cause this difference in behavior when Debug is started? Also, does anybody know how to successfully debug an XBAP with a 64-bit browser?

• Where should I store shared resources between LocalSystem and regular user with UAC?

  My application consists of two parts: A Windows Service running under the LocalSystem account and a client process running under the currently logged in regular user. I need to deploy the application across Windows versions from XP up to Win7. The client will retrieve files from the web and collect user data from the user. The service will construct files and data of it's own which the client needs to read. I'm trying to figure out the best place (registry or filesystem, or mix) to store all this. One file the client or service needs to be able to retrieve from the net is an update_patch executable which needs to run whenever an upgrade is available. I need to be sure the initial installer SETUP.EXE, and also the update_patch can figure out this ideal location and set a RegKey to be read later by both client and server telling them the magic location (The SETUP.EXE will run with elevated privileges since it needs to install the service) On my Win7 test system the service %APPDATA% points to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming and the %APPDATA% of the client points to: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming Interestingly Google Chrome stores everything (App and Data) in C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome Chrome runs pretty much in exactly the way I want my suite to run (able to silently update itself in the background) What I'm trying to avoid is nasty popups warning the user that the app wants to modify the system, and I want to avoid problems when VirtualStore doesn't exist because the user is running XP/2000/2003 or has UAC turned off. My target audience are non-tech-savvy general Windows users.

• How do I generate a connection reset programatically?

  Hi, I'm sure you've seen the "the connection was reset" message displayed when trying to browse web pages. (The text is from Firefox, other browsers differ.) I need to generate that message/error/condition on demand, to test workarounds. So, how do I generate that condition programmatically? (How to generate a TCP RST from PHP -- or one of the other web-app languages?) Caveats and Conditions: It cannot be a general IP block. The test client must still be able to see the test server when not triggering the condition. Ideally, it would be done at the web-application level (Python, PHP, Coldfusion, Javascript, etc.). Access to routers is problematic. Access to Apache config is a pain. Ideally, it would be triggered by fetching a specific web-page. Bonus if it works on a standard, commercial web host. Update: Sending RST is not enough to cause this condition. See my partial answer, below. I've a solution that works on a local machine, Now need to get it working on a remote host.

• A dynamic array of a class, inside another separate class?

  I'm working on a robot localization simulator and I created a class called "landmark". The end result is going to be a robot that is always centered and always faces the top of the screen. As it turns, the birds eye view map will rotate around the robot. To accomplish this, I'm assuming I can rotate one class and have all elements inside rotate as well. So, the landmark class has properties x,y, label, and radius. This is suppose to simulate a tree location in a forest. To test everything, I need "forest data," and I wrote a script to generate 100 trees in a 100m x 100m area. The script automatically generates values within an acceptable range for x,y, radius. The generated data is stored in an object called tempForest and is 100x3. Ideally, I want to create a class called "landmarks" (plural) that has 100 landmark instances inside. How would I instantiate 100 instances of landmark in one instance of landmarks using that randomly generated data? Ideally, I'd just type treeBeacons = landmarks(); and it would randomly populate 100 (user definable, set in config file) instances with x, y, radius data. I'm not sure how to deal with a dynamic array of class "Landmark", inside another single class "landmarks." Any ideas?
