• Temporary intermediate table

  In our project to generate massive reports in oracle we use some permanent table to hold intermediate results. For example to generate one report we run few queries and populate the table, at the final step we join the intermediate table with huge application tables. These intermediate tables are cleared for next report run. We have few concerns in performance areas. These intermediate tables are transactional and don't have statistics. Is it good idea to join these with application tables which are partitioned and have up to date statistics. We need these results stored in the intermediate tables to be available across requests from UI hence we are not in a position to use oracle provided temporary tables. Any thoughts on what could be done would be appreciated.

• Poll database using jQuery/Ajax

  Hi guys, I am trying to use jQuery (latest version) & ajax to poll a mysql db every x seconds, post.php does a simple search query on the table and limits to 1 row. (eg SELECT id FROM TABLE LIMIT 1) I've got some other jQuery UI (using v1.8) code that displays some modal/dialog boxes on the screen, simply put if post.php returns something from the db I need to initialise the dialog to pop up onto the screen. I've done all the popup stuff I am just having issues joining all these bits together - i've added some pseudo code of how i expect this to work. • jQuery slider not working in Wordpress plugin

  I've written a plugin for wordpress and I want to use a slider on my page.   I am planning to write an application which has UI from MS ppt.Here is where all the animation will be configured. My application will just read xmls containing animation configuration and run it on a target device(Cannot mention details w.r.t device right now ,apologies for that) Not necessary that i want xmls it self but if there is a way to get animation details directly from the ppt file i will be more than happy.   I have just installed C# for the first time, and at first glance it appears to be very similar to VB6. I decided to start off by trying to make a 'Hello, World!' UI Edition. I started in the Form Designer and made a button named "Click Me!" proceeded to double-click it and typed in MessageBox("Hello, World!"); I received the following error: MessageBox is a 'type' but used as a 'variable' Fair enough, it seems in C# MessageBox is an Object. I tried the following MessageBox a = new MessageBox("Hello, World!"); I received the following error: MessageBox does not contain a constructor that takes '1' arguments Now I am stumped. Please help.

  Hi How can i pass the different types of errors from Data access layer to presentation layer? suppose if we take the northwind database scenario I want to delete the customer, so i selected one customer in ui and clicked the "delete" button.It internally calls the "delete" in data access layer. The prerequisite for deleting the customer is that the customer doesn't have any orders.So in data access layer we wil check whether that customer has any orders.If the customer has orders how can we pass the message from dal to presentation layer that the customer has orders and we don't delete.   My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController. • Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

  We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.

  Anyone know of a good book on Game Interface Design (not game play mechanics; the actual UI). I'm particular interested in theories of cognition, and how game interfaces are designed to allow the enduser efficient communication with the game (whether it in FPS, RTS, or so on). In a modern game, the amount of information conveyed to the user, the amount of choices the user can make; and the support for the user to make said decisions is simply astounding (think UIs for Starcraft II / WoW). Any insights into this would be greatly appreciated.

• Standard documentation of Visual Studio commands?

  Visual Studio has a concept of commands, i.e. actions executable by pressing a shortcut, entering them on the Command Window etc. Visual Studio itself documents its commands (at least some of them) but I was wondering if there is a unified way to get information about any command, e.g. coming from ReSharper, TestDriven.NET etc. What I'd like to see for every command: Textual description of the command List of parameters and their types/allowed values I've never developed a VS addon / extension so am not sure if this question even makes sense but from the user perspective, some documentation would be greatly appreciated. BTW, is the Command Window the best place to get at least an overview of all the commands available? ToolsOptionsKeyboard is another place where I can see shortcuts also but the UI is not very convenient...

• Nginx fastcgi problems with django (double slashes in url?)

  I'm deploying my first django app. I'm familiar with nginx and fastcgi from deploying php-fpm. I can't get python to recognize the urls. I'm also at a loss on how to debug this further. I'd welcome solutions to this problem and tips on debugging fastcgi problems. Currently I get a 404 page regardless of the url and for some reason a double slash For http://www.site.com/admin/ Page not found (404) Request Method: GET Request URL: http://www.site.com/admin// My urls.py from the debug output - which work in the dev server.   I'm testing a simple User Control in Visual Studio 2008: A Panel named Wrapper with some controls inside.   I've never really used threading before in C# where I need to have two threads, as well as the main UI thread. Basically, I have the following. public void StartTheActions() { //Starting thread 1.... Thread t1 = new Thread(new ThreadStart(action1)); t1.Start(); //Now, I want for the main thread (which is calling StartTheActions() ) to wait for t1 to finish (I have created an event in action1() for this) and then start t2... //HOW DO I DO THIS?   Hello, Can someone suggest what I am doing wrong? Basically I have a List Items, when an item gets added to the list I am resetting the collection to the viewmodel property. The only way I can get it to work is if I null the member object out before reassigning the binding. • asp.net report generation - page cannot be diplayed

  I have a asp.net application which generates reports.When the user clicks on generate report, the report is generated in the background and link to that report is written on the UI. There is no problem with the application as many of them are able to generate the reports successfully. However few users are facing issue is generating reports.The issue is, "When they click on generate report button, the report is being generated but before getting the link to the report,users are getting "page cannot be displayed" page" "And for few of them it occurs only in IE and not in mozila" Please help me in resolving this issue. • Monitoring .NET ASP.NET Applications

  I have a number of applications running on top of ASP.NET I want to monitor. The main things I care about are: Exceptions: We currently some custom code which will email us when an exception occurs. If the application is failing hard it will crash our outlook... I know (and use) elmah which partly solves the problem however it is still just a big table of exceptions with a pretty(ish) UI. I want something that makes sense of all of these exceptions (e.g. groups exceptions, alerts when new ones occur, tells me what the common ones are that I should fix, etc) Logging: We currently log to files which are then accessible via a shared folder which dev's grep & tail. Does anyone know of better ways of presenting this information. In an ideal world I want to associate it with exceptions. Performance: Request times, memory usage, cpu, etc. whatever stats I can get I'm guessing this is probably going to be solved by a number of tools, has anyone got any suggestions?

• Writing a simple webservice in C# and calling it from Ruby on Rails

  I need to create a simple webservice in C# but I'm not sure where to start (I've coded UI apps in C# before but all my web experience is in Ruby on Rails). Where do I start? The only client for the webservice will be a Ruby on Rails app so there's no need for any HTML rendering. I was thinking of just returning a XML or YAML formatted string unless there's an easier way. I'm not too keen on SOAP but if it's easy/natural in C# & Ruby then I'd consider it (or anything else).

I have a grid with 9 images 100 x 100 px like this (each number symbolize a picture): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 What I want is that the user can drag and drop e.g. 9 over 1 and they change places like this: 9 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 Sortables from jquery UI will not work since their solution is using floats. • Custom iPad keyboard backspace method last character crash

  I'm making a custom UI iPad keyboard app, and I'm doing something similar to this post for the backspace method: custom backspace button crashes iPhone app However, the app will always crash when I "backspace" for the last character in the UITextView. I know -substringToIndex won't work for an empty string, but I tried using a temporary mutable string then using -deleteCharactersInRange, and that crashed it too. I'm guessing the crash is due to me manually setting the -selectedRange property for the text view after deleting a character? But even if I do: textView.selectedRange = NSMakeRange(0, 0); the app will crash. Any ideas?

• Relogging a user in with different Spring Security Authorities programmatically

  PreReq: User logs in and is given roles got from the database using a custom implementation of userService. i.e. authentication-provider user-service-ref="securityPolicyService" The implemented method loadUserByUsername gets called and the roles are load for the user for the particular club they are logging into, Default one is loaded first time in. The user then click on a different club from the UI and I call a method on a service that gets the new list of authorities for this club. I then perform the following: Object principle = SecurityContextHolder.getContext().getAuthentication().getPrincipal(); SecureMember sm = (SecureMember) principle; Authentication auth = new UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken(sm, null, newAuthories); <br><br> SecurityContextHolder.getContext().setAuthentication(auth);<br> request.getSession(false).invalidate(); SecureMember extends User from SpringFramework. The problem is the SecureMember authorities are never updated with the new ones. thanks Gary
