• Windows Media Player 11 Not Detecting Autoplaylists

  Every time I open Windows Media Player it fails to detect my autoplaylists stored in <my music library dir>\Playlists. This appears to lead to sync problems since I (exclusively) use autoplaylists to sync music to my mobile. As WMP 11 fails to find the any sync autoplaylists it infuriatingly seems to decide that I want no music at all on my phone and proceeds to delete all my music off my phone. I guess these are two seperate problems but it seems to me they are related. If anyone can shed any light on a fix, that would be much appreciated. Many thanks

• BusEnum2 and a Minor Bug Fix

  The default root bus driver, BusEnum, enumerate and active drivers one by one in synchronized manner. It is not only slowing the boot time but in the even if any of driver's init function (XXX_init) get hanged, the whole system won't boot at all. There is a sample of enhanced root bus driver, BusEnum2, on the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd187254.aspx The page provides the sample code and the detail explanation of the design concept. With multi-threaded BusEnum2 on CE7 with SMP enabled system, the scalability is even more significant. Since you have more than one processor and it can load drivers in parallel! Everything looks good so far, except to there is a small bug in the sample code. Fortunately, it is easy to fix. But hard to trace if you ever enc outer it! The BUSENUM2 flag only defined in BUSENUM2\BUSDEF\sources but not in BUSENUM2\BUSENUM\sources. The DeviceFolder is implemented in BUSENUM2\BUSDEF but the instance is created in BUSENUM2\BUSENUM\busenum.cpp, so the result is it allocates less memory than actual need.   Add   CDEFINES=$(CDEFINES) -DBUSENUM2   into BUSENUM2\BUSENUM\sources and the problem fixed!

• Font Book does not Install all Fonts

  My Mac decided to delete all but 19 fonts, which is fairly annoying. It didn't really delete them, as in I still have the original files in the /Library/Fonts folder, but they've disappeared from Font Book, so I can't use them. Now, Apple says that you can select a folder to install all fonts in that folder, but when I try that, the spinning wheel (not the beach ball) comes up in the lower right hand corner for a few seconds and then leaves, without installing any fonts. The same thing happens if I use the + sign in the menu bar, select multiple, or if I try validating and then installing (actually, that installs one font). Is there any way to mass-install these fonts or will I have to install them one by one? Comp info: Mac OS X 10.5.8 running Font Book 2.1 (123).

  I tried to build a simple graphics engine, and faced with this problems: i have a list of models that i need to draw, and object (renderer) that implements IRenderer interface with method DrawObject(Object* obj). Implementation of renderer depends on using graphics library (opengl/directx). 1st question: model should not know nothing about renderer implementation, but in this case where can i hold (cache) information that depends on renderer implementation? For example, if model have this definition: class Model { public: Model(); Vertex* GetVertices() const; private: Vertex* m_vertices; }; what is the best way to cache, for example, vertex buffer of this model for dx11? Hold it in renderer object? 2nd question: what is the best way for model to say renderer HOW it must be rendered (for example with texture, bump mapping, or may be just in one color). I thought it can be done with flags, like this: model-SetRenderOptions(RENDER_TEXTURE | RENDER_BUMPMAPPING | RENDER_LIGHTING); and in Renderer::DrawModel method check for each flag. But looks like it will become uncomfortable with the options count growth...

The goal - an Active/Active cluster for web server data How do I go about telling the cluster to be active for both nodes? Do I have to tell the cluster to be active/active?   I'm running AutoHotkey 1.0.48.05 on Windows 7. I'd like CTRL-ALT-P to open PowerShell. • Web application design with distributed servers

  I want to build a web application/server with this structure: main-server sub-server transaction-server (create, update, delete) view-server (view, search) authentication-server documents-server reporting-server library-server e-learning-server The main-server acts as host server for sub-server. I can add many sub-servers and connect it to main-server (via plug-play interface maybe), then it can begin querying data from another sub-servers (which has been connected to the main-server). The sub-servers can be anywhere as long as connected to internet. The main-server can manage all sub-servers which are connected to it (query data, setting permission between sub-servers, etc). The purpose is simple, the web application will be huge as the company grows, so I want to distribute it into small connected plug-able servers. My question is, does the structure above already have a standardized method? or are there any different views? what are the technologies needed? I need a lot of researches before the execution plan begin. thanks a lot.

• C++ Windows Forms application unhandled exception error when textbox empty

  I'm building a temperature conversion application in Visual Studio for a C++ course. It's a Windows Forms application and the code that I've written is below. There's other code to of course, but I'm not sure you need it to help me. My problem is, when I run the application if I don't have anything entered into either the txtFahrenheit or txtCelsius2 textboxes I get the following error: "An unhandled exception of type 'System.FormatException' occurred in mscorlib.dll" The application only works right now when a number is entered into both of the textboxes. I was told to try and use this: Double::TryParse() but I'm brand new to C++ and can't figure out how to use it, even after checking the MSDN library.   Much data is unstructured, such as text documents, images, and videos. This unstructured data is often stored outside the database, separate from its structured data. This separation can cause data management complexities. Or, if the data is associated with structured storage, the file streaming capabilities and performance can be limited. FILESTREAM integrates the SQL Server Database Engine with an NTFS file system by storing varbinary(max) binary large object (BLOB) data as files on the file system. Transact-SQL statements can insert, update, query, search, and back up FILESTREAM data. Win32 file system interfaces provide streaming access to the data. FILESTREAM uses the NT system cache for caching file data. This helps reduce any effect that FILESTREAM data might have on Database Engine performance. The SQL Server buffer pool is not used; therefore, this memory is available for query processing. FILESTREAM data is not encrypted even when transparent data encryption is enabled.   We are considering upgrading our SQL Server, which is currently running 2005. We use SQLMail heavily in the organization, both to send e-mails and to import some into a database. I've read on various places that SQLMail was deprecated and superseded by "Database Mail". I'm confused because this MS page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb402904.aspx seems to imply that it would still work? I understand the dangers of SQLMail but we do not have the resources to rewrite the scripts right now and would prefer to do it later on. Does SQLMail still work in 2012, and if not, how easy is it to replace with Database Mail, both for reading and sending e-mails?

  I have a 140 MB text file, which contains detail information of books in library. For each book details there is a standard format data details in text file. I need to parse it and insert the data in Database. Here, parsing text file is not an issue. I am facing problem in parsing this large file. So i decided to split the file in small file around 2 MB each file. But i can't manually split this large file in so many pieces. I got HJsplit tool, which split the file but this also doesn't helped as this split the file but 1 book details half part is in one file and rest part is in second file. so if i split this way then information will be missed. How to split the large so that i cant miss the information ? Is there any tool which help me in this condition.

• Getting iTunes to play third party AAC files

  I have a library filled with some old MP3 files and I'm in the process of changing them all to AAC for the better sound quality. Obviously I can't just create AAC versions of the files I already have because they would sound worse (lossy compression to converted to more lossy compression), so I'm going to their source and downloading them in a lossless form and using a third party to make them into AAC. Apparently iTunes will not handle AAC files that aren't made with iTunes. Is there a way around this? I've looked at third party programs and would be willing to use them, but since they all require the iTunes/iPod/iEverything driver, I don't know if they would still prevent my files or not. Also before you jump on my back about pirating, these files are from old CDs that I lost years ago. I paid for them. Thanks.

• Major permission repair needed on Mac Os

  I made the fatal error of copying and pasting a sudo command into my terminal without double checking it, here it is. sudo -R mysql / What this does (for those that don't know) is recursively change the owner every file from the root down to mysql!! obviously not what i was intending This has of course played havoc with my system, the first thing i did was the apple permission repair but that only works for files that it has an idea of though it has changed a lot of file ownerships back to root. It seems that many library files are still owned incorrectly, as a lot of problems don't work. What i propose doing as a temporary fix until i can reinstall mountain lion is to recursively set all ownerships that are mysql to Luke. I'm not sure what they should precisely but this is still better than nothing. Is this possible using a shell script? I realise that this won't fix the problem properly and i will have to reformat but i need the machine in a workable state just for this week.

• How to effectively design a piece of software

  Im a compsci student and ive got some experience in various languages and paradigms c/java/python/ruby/html/css/scheme/sql/asp(classic). I realise that i want to have some software in my portfolio for future job hunting even tho i still have 2 years left of my education. Ive got a pretty good idea of what i want to make, its a webapp. Most shops around here are either .net or java and since i know java best and dont have access to ms developer tools im thinking i should go with java. Even tho i feel i know the principles of OOP pretty good ive got no clue how to go from my idea to a working solution. Where can i access information about designing the underlying architechture of my solution? Also i would like to know what other technologies i should train on, my current list includes javascript(and possibly a javascript library) some sort of java web framework tips are appreciated. I would like to add support for android/iphone apps in the future and this is something i have to take into account when designing the app. I have done a course on software engineering but i found this to be more centered around project management ideas then the actual design and implementation. So i would like tips on technologies i should focus on to get the most out of my time without the massive overhead of huge config processes but at the same time keep my project viable in a business sense, so that i use technologies that are relevant for business (java developer jobs). And i would also like tips on where i can learn more about the design process around a software project, i will be working mostly alone. But i find the approach ive used up until now (start coding and figure it out as you go) wont suffice.

• Music player with a few specific requirements

  I am looking for a music player with a few specific requirements: Must have a search function that whittles down results as you type, searching the entire library. Must start playing a song when double clicked, and not continue to another song when that song finishes. Must be approachable and immediately usable by people completely unfamiliar with the program. I think this is mostly covered by the first two requirements being met. I've tried many players but unfortunately every one has failed to meet at least one of the requirements. Rhythmbox meets 1 and 3, but continues to the next search result after the song which was double clicked ends. Banshee is basically the same as Rhythmbox. While it has an option to "Stop when finished" this cannot (as far as I can tell) be made the default when double clicking a song. Audacious (as far as I can tell) fails at 1. Muine meets requirements 1 and 2, but unfortunately I couldn't make the search dialog always shown like it is with Rhythmbox / Banshee which, despite its very simple interface, made Muine incomprehensible to people trying to use it for the first time. Amarok I could not configure to meet requirement 1, but I think it's likely I was just missing something, and with its configurability I'm confident that I can set it up to meet requirements 2 and 3.

  Hello, We have several thousand 'contacts' setup in AD already for a faxing system. We're migrating to an online fax provider that uses e-mail rather than plain old telephone. So, we've bulk edited all the AD records so that the 'mail' attribute is populated with the right e-mail address in the right format. Now, how do we enable these contacts within Exchange 2007? I've looked through http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684891.aspx but that only seems to talk about manually editing the CSV output to specify the external addresses. AD already knows the external e-mail addresses - I just need the info in Exchange! Any thoughts?

• JavaApplicationStub Compatibility with all java versions

  Hi, I am running a Java application on Mac Leopard & on Mac Mini. My Mac Mini upgraded, it is using Java Version 1.6.0_17 and Mac Leopard have version 1.5.0_13. To run that application on Mac Mini I have to copy JavaApplicationStub from path -"/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub" to my application "Content/Resources/Java". But this application successfully run on Mac Leopard. If I do not copy stub at Mac Mini then I am unable to launch application using app by double click, it shows icon for few second then disappears, so in that case I have to run application with its jar. I want that without copying explicitly JavaApplicationStub, how can I run app with all versions of java. If this possible then what changes I have to made? The info.plist file contain JVMVersion is 1.4+. Thanks!

  How I enable directory browsing in IIS7? MS technet says this can be done in the IIS console: Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. In Features View, double-click Directory Browsing. In the Actions pane, click Enable if the Directory Browsing feature is disabled and you want to enable it. Or, click Disable if the Directory Browsing feature is enabled and you want to disable it. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731109%28WS.10%29.aspx However, my IIS console doesn't have the Directory Browsing option mentioned in Step 2. How can this option be made available. Note, this is for a static HTML site, so I don't have any web.config or ASPX files.

  This is perhaps not a perfectly suitable forum for this question, but let me give it a shot, at the risk of being moved away. There are several references for the C++ standard library, including the invaluable ISO standard, MSDN, IBM, cppreference, and cplusplus. Personally, when writing C++ I need a reference that has quick random access, short load times and usage examples, and I've been finding cplusplus.com pretty useful. However, I've been hearing negative opinions about that website frequently here on SO, so I would like to get specific: What are the errors, misconceptions or bad pieces of advice given by cplusplus.com? What are the risks of using it to make coding decisions? Let me add this point: I want to be able to answer questions here on SO with accurate quotes of the standard, and thus I would like to post immediately-usable links, and cplusplus.com would have been my choice site were it not for this issue. Update: There have been many great responses, and I have seriously changed my view on cplusplus.com. I'd like to list a few choice results here; feel free to suggest more (and keep posting answers). As of June 29, 2011: Incorrect description of some algorithms (e.g. remove). Information about the behaviour of functions is sometimes incorrect (atoi), fails to mention special cases (strncpy), or omits vital information (iterator invalidation). Examples contain deprecated code (#include style). Inexact terminology is doing a disservice to learners and the general community ("STL", "compiler" vs "toolchain"). • What is a good way to share internal helpers?

  All my projects share the same base library that I have build up over quite some time. It contains utilities and static helper classes to assist them where .NET doesn't exactly offer what I want. Originally all the helpers were written mainly to serve an internal purpose and it has to stay that way, but sometimes they prove very useful to other assemblies. Now making them public in a reliable way is more complicated than most would think, for example all methods that assume nullable types must now contain argument checking while not charging internal utilities with the price of doing so. The price might be negligible, but it is far from right. While refactoring, I have revised this case multiple times and I've come up with the following solutions so far: Have an internal and public class for each helper The internal class contains the actual code while the public class serves as an access point which does argument checking. Cons: The internal class requires a prefix to avoid ambiguity (the best presentation should be reserved for public types) It isn't possible to discriminate methods that don't need argument checking   Have one class that contains both internal and public members (as conventionally implemented in .NET framework). At first, this might sound like the best possible solution, but it has the same first unpleasant con as solution 1. Cons: Internal methods require a prefix to avoid ambiguity   Have an internal class which is implemented by the public class that overrides any members that require argument checking. Cons: Is non-static, atleast one instantiation is required. This doesn't really fit into the helper class idea, since it generally consists of independent fragments of code, it should not require instantiation. Non-static methods are also slower by a negligible degree, which doesn't really justify this option either. There is one general and unavoidable consequence, alot of maintenance is necessary because every internal member will require a public counterpart. A note on solution 1: The first consequence can be avoided by putting both classes in different namespaces, for example you can have the real helper in the root namespace and the public helper in a namespace called "Helpers".
