• Device Emulator Mananger and ActiveSync

  I use Device Emulator Manager to fire up my Windows Mobile 5 Emulator. I then right click on the device (in the Device Emulator Manager list) and select cradle. ActiveSync then ties to connect. After a few seconds I get this message: Then if I open up the connection options and press connect: Then it works just fine. So, my question is, how can I get it to connect every time. Right as I cradle. I do this enough times that it is annoying to have the extra step. Has anyone ever been able to figure this out? (Does anyone have this problem too?) FYI My co-workers have the same issue Connecting a real device does not have this issue (It is just when I use an emulator)

  I'm using the Zend Frameworker 1.12. According to the help file, I used the Zend_Db_Statement to execute my sql. • how can I send messages to/from a Websphere Message Broker from an embedded C client (no JVM)?

  What are my options for pubsubing (or point to point but pubsub is better) messages to and from an IBM message broker from an embedded headless C/C++ linux client that doesn't have a JVM? Ideally we want large file transfer (2GB once per day off of the client) encryption (SSL) reliable ('assured' delivery / QoS2, maybe QoS1 would do) The client in question currently only has exes and some bash scripts, I've been playing with MQTTv3 and RSMB, but for that I'd have to chomp the large files up (and reassemble back home) and I don't want to get into that if there's a transport that will do this for me? I've looked at MQTTv5 (but our client's got no JVM); JMS (no JVM) and XMS? which again looks like it gives me a C API but then needs the JVM to be installed on the client (or am I wrong?) any clues or hints would be appreciated, cheers

  I have a custom routing application that takes information for a route from google maps. It then creates a Google Visualizations DataTable to hold all the steps in the route. My current problem is that in order to reduce overflow for very large routes, I have enabled paging in the options of the DataTable. This leads to a not so printer friendly version because only the portion of the data that is shown in the table will be printed. The other portions of the table are loaded dynamically by the API when you click prev and next. Is there a not so hard way to get the DataTable to be printer friendly when it comes time without sacrificing the ability to have paging enabled?

• How to efficiently handle Where and OrderBy clauses

  My business layer passes all the required information to UI layer. From what I have read, in general, best practice is to send fetched data to UI layer, and to avoid passing queries like ObjectQuery. My problem with this approach is next: If I am to make a flexible business layer, then I should allow UI to sort the data anyway it requires. Fetching sorted data from database, and then resorting them in UI is kind of bad practice for me, so the only way is to somehow So what are my options? Is there a way to make it like this: public void OrderByMethod(params ...) { .... } so I can call it like this: OrderByMethod(MyEntity.Property1, MyEntity.Property2 descending....); Thanks, Goran

• How Can I switch the session storage according to the client on Ruby on Rails 2.3.5

  Hi! I have a question about sessions on ruby-on-rails. We have a several options about session storage such as cookie, active_record_store, etc.. I primarily use the cookie storage, but, there are some client which doesn't support cookie function. In that case, I have to make that client to use the "active_record_store". My rails version is 2.3.5. I found out that even though I use the active_record_store, the cookie is still available. In my situation, both session storage might be available. So, I want to make the framework to primarily use the cookie, when the cookie is available. On the other hand, the client doesn't support the cookie, secondly to use the active_record_store. I think this function requires some override to the framework, but I don't know how to do it. Do you have any idea for that? Thank you very much in advance.

  The company I work for is looking to implement a caching solution. We have several WCF Web Services hosted and we need to cache certain values that can be persisted and fetched regardless of a client's session to a service. I am looking at the following technologies: Caching Application Block 4.1 WCF TCP Service using HttpRuntime Caching Memcached Win32 and Client Microsoft AppFabric Caching Beta 2 Our test server is a Windows Server 2003 with IIS6, but our production server is Windows Server 2008, so any of the above options would work (except for AppFabric Caching on our test server). Does anyone have any experience with any of these? This caching solution will not be used to store a lot of data, but it will need to be fetched from frequently and fast. Thanks in advance.

• Viewing, building & debugging Borland C++ Builder project in Visual Studio 2010

  I would like to use VC2010 to handle a BCB 2006 project I have. I do not want to convert the code to VC since much UI will need to be ported. I just want to be able to view build & debug from VS IDE. Viewing: I assume once I create VS projects for the native BCB code viewing will be possible, although the UI editor will not. Building: I found the "C++ Native Multi-Targeting" option of VS, although I'm not sure on what to set the different options there to (Daffodil is mentioned as helpful although I'm not sure what the added value is over existing functionality). Debugging: not sure how to do this at all from within VS. There are some stand alone console tools that convert debug info files e.g. tds2pdb (wheres the documentation link?). If anyone has experience with such a task I would thank you for any advice.

• Why can't I save CSS changes in FireBug?

  FireBug is the most convenient tool I've found for editing CSS - so why isn't there a simple "Save" option? I am always finding myself making tweaks in FireBug, then going back to my original .css file and replicating the tweaks. Has anyone come up with a better solution? EDIT: I'm aware the code is stored on a server (in most cases not my own), but I use it when building my own websites. Firebug's just using the .css file FireFox downloaded from the server, it knows precisely what lines in which files its editing, I can't see why there's not an "Export" or "Save" option which allows you to store the new .css file. (Which I could then replace the remote one with). I have tried looking in temporary locations, and choosing file-save and experimenting with the output options on FireFox, but I still haven't found a way. Here's hoping someone has a nice solution... EDIT 2: The Official Group has a lot of questions, but no answers.

  Hey all, Can anyone direct me to a good Python screen scraping library for javascript code (hopefully one with good documentation/tutorials)? I'd like to see what options are out there, but most of all the easiest to learn with fastest results... wondering if anyone had experience. I've heard some stuff about spidermonkey, but maybe there are better ones out there?   A command line in a text editor is a wonderful feature. It allows the user to explore the editor's functionality and learn it's shortcuts in a textual way. It's much faster than using the mouse, and it is much easier to memorise "shortcuts" this way. Emacs and VI provide this, though, emacs and vi are not "modern". By "modern", I mean one that is original built to cope with the modern de-facto standards of selecting, copying, pasting, cutting, undoing, redoing and auto-completing. Cream/vi or EmacsCUE are not valid options, since there are loads of things built over them that conflict with the mentioned stuff. Is there any alternative?

  This may be a silly question, but it may shed some light on how joins work internally. Let's say I have a large table L and a small table S (100K rows vs. 100 rows). Would there be any difference in terms of speed between the following two options?: OPTION 1: OPTION 2: --------- --------- SELECT * SELECT * FROM L INNER JOIN S FROM S INNER JOIN L ON L.id = S.id; ON L.id = S.id; Notice that the only difference is the order in which the tables are joined. I realize performance may vary between different SQL languages. If so, how would MySQL compare to Access?

I am using the Codeigniter framework but I am not sure if the problem lies there. Also using %20 or just a space in the url bar produces no different results.   Hi, I'm writing a little program as a self-learning project in Python 3.x. my idea is for the program to allow two fields of text entry to the user, and then plug the user's input into the value of two specific registry keys. What I was wondering, and something my books don't seem to cover, is if there is a simple way to make it check if the current user can access the registry. I'd rather it cleanly tell the user that he needs admin privileges than for the program to go nuts and crash because it's trying to access a restricted area. I'd like it to make this check as soon as the program launches, before the user is given any input options. What code is needed for this? thanks for the help

• How to perform a non-polymorphic HQL query in Hibernate?

  Hi all, I'm using Hibernate 3.1.1, and in particular, I'm using HQL queries. According to the documentation, Hibernate's queries are polymorphic: A query like: from Cat as cat returns instances not only of Cat, but also of subclasses like DomesticCat. How can I query for instances of Cat, but not of any of its subclasses? I'd like to be able to do it without having to explicitly mention each subclass. I'm aware of the following options, and don't find them satisfactory: Manually filtering the instances after the query, OR: Manually adding a WHERE clause on the discriminator column. It would make sense for Hibernate to allow the user to decide whether a query should be polymorphic or not, but I can't find such an option. Thanks in advance!

• Checkbox vs Two Radio Buttons - Which one is more usable?

  I'm currently working on some setting screens, most of which contain a 2 column form with a preference question on the left, and a form element on the right. The questions are things like: Can add/edit other users? Can delete clients? Obviously this setting is a binary setting and most UI "experts" would insist that a checkbox is the appropriate form element to use. However, when I mocked up the form with the checkboxes it looked unfriendly and it seemed hard to relate the state of the checkbox back to the question. I changed the form to use two radio buttons instead: Yes o No Personally I find this easier to process, as the options are actually answers to the question posed on the left. In terms of clicking it makes no difference to the user, it's a single click each time to change the setting. What do you think of this use of radio buttons? Is this better or worse than a checkbox and why?

• How can I make the Python logging output to be colored?

  Some time ago I saw a Mono application with colored output, probably because of it's log system, because all the messages were standardized. Now, Python has the logging module, and it let you specify a lot of options or customize it entirely, so I'm imagining that something like that would be possible too with Python, however I could not find it anywhere. Is there any way to make the Python logging module to output in color? What I want is for error messages to appear in red, for instance. Debug messages in blue or yellow, and so on. Of course this would probably only work on Linux, with compatible terminals (most modern terminals are), but I could fallback to the original logging output if color is not supported. Any ideas?

• Referencing Excel Sheets with JET Driver Sheets Are Duplicated with Underscores

  I'm referencing an excel document with the JET database driver, which was working just fine until one day the application failed. Upon further investigation I noticed that the tabs were duplicated in some instances (all tabs actually) - i.e. Tab1$ and Tab1$_. I've researched this issue and found that it is caused by the user applying a filter. Now the filters have been removed, no special formatting, frozen panes, or print formats, but still I have these tabs duplicated. Normally I'd code around this, but since we're in a code freeze I need to come up with an Excel based solution. I want to get rid of those crazy underscored tab names / reverences. I could probably run a program to clean up the file if necessary, to send it back to the users, but I want to explore Excel options first. Thoughts? I have Excel 2010, and access to any other version as well.

I have to create a shell utility in Java that could run in background reading few database records after specified duration and do further processing. It's a kind of scheduler. • jQuery Validation using the class instead of the name value

  Hi, I'd like to validate a form using the jquery validate plugin, but I'm unable to use the 'name' value within the html - as this is a field also used by the server app. Specifically, I need to limit the number of checkboxes checked from a group. (Maximum of 3.) All of the examples I have seen, use the name attribute of each element. What I'd like to do is use the class instead, and then declare a rule for that. html This works: <input class="checkBox" type="checkbox" id="i0000zxthy" name="salutation" value="1" /> This doesn't work, but is what I'm aiming for: <input class="checkBox" type="checkbox" id="i0000zxthy" name="i0000zxthy" value="1" /> javascript: var validator = $(".formToValidate").validate({ rules:{ "salutation":{ required:true, }, "checkBox":{ required:true, minlength:3 } } }); Is it possible to do this - is there a way of targeting the class instead of the name within the rules options? • Working with the Grails g:timeZoneSelect tag?

  I am wanting to use the g:timeZoneSelect tag within my application, problem is im finding the resulting html select to be quite overwhelming. Over 600 options are being displayed, IMHO this is to much to display to the user. Maybe someone could point me to an example of a much more manageable list of timezones? Maybe you have seen a site that does timezone selection well? Im sure over 600 option is "technically" correct, but this will just look like noise to the user. The display value of the timezone is to long. E.g. "CST, Central Standard Time (South Australia/New South Wales) 9.5:30.0" Just "CST, Central Standard Time" or "Australia/Broken_Hill" would be better Is there a way to address these issues via tag attributes of some sort (cant find any in the docs) or config that I am unaware of? Or, is my best bet to wrap an html select within a custom tag lib and "roll my own" solution (Id prefer not to). Thanks
