I have an existing Windows DB2 database that I'd like to move onto PostgreSQL. The users for the application can live with a weekend's worth of downtime. What's the best way to do that?
I know this is a very basic question but I need some help.
I'm setting up a domain controller on Zentyal with the domain name example.com. But I need the domain users to be able to get to our company website with the same name (http://example.com) that's hosted out there on a third party's server.
I know this has something to do with adding a DNS record, but I don't know what type. I would experiment, but I don't want to break the whole works!
I'd like a simple and secure system to have allow users in our network to have their account (e.g., 'myname') work on every machine in the network (e.g., such that they could ssh to any machine and have the same userid, mounted smb share). Any suggestions?
I have just bought a shiny new HTC Hero. Is there any way to get it to sync with iTunes. In particular I'm looking at Podcast management.
Same question targeted at the Zune

Update I am running windows, but I feel that Mac users would appreciate this too.
I type echo $PATH on the command line and get
/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/andrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/local/pear/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/git/bin
I'm wondering where this is getting set since my .bash_login file is empty.
I'm particularly concerned that, after installing MacPorts, it installed a bunch of junk in /opt. I don't think that directory even exists in a normal Mac OS X install.
Update: Thanks to jtimberman for correcting my echo $PATH statement
I am writing a website and want to test it's speed on slower internet connections.
I have the unfortunate first world problem of downloading at 100mbps, how can I throttle my own computer's internet connection to 56kbps or 5mbps to give myself an idea of how my users might be downloading my website?
EDIT: I am using Windows primarily but also have an ubuntu laptop if the answer is linux oriented.
I have a SSD Hard drive representing C:\, which is only 30GB. Therefore, I install all my (non-critical) apps on my large G:\ drive. My VirtualBox install is on G, as well as the hard disks. However, I found that the snapshots directory still defaults to C:\Users\David.VirtualBox...etc.
How do I put this on my G drive by default?
We have a SharePoint Installation (MOSS, IIS 7.0, Windows Authentication, Windows 2008) and Google Analytics has been installed to track site usage. The site is an intranet site, and all users are authenticated before gaining access.
Is there any way in Google Analytics to track user information so we can see details of the login names of who is accessing content?
is there any free software that can track internet usage (websites visited) on a computer? (windows vista)
the software shouldn't be visible, i.e. users shouldn't know its running
I am looking for a free, online-based accounting application, something like a web-version of QuickBooks or MS Money.
The catch here is that, of course, it needs to be free. I don't know if any company is philanthropic enough to offer this kind of service to individual users.
I am getting the following error details:

I would like to setup a central Mecurial repository on a Windows 2008 server which only allows both push and pull access to certain users. This is to allow developers working remotely to push/pull changes through the central repository while working remotely.
Hi,
I need to setup my Centos 5.4 server for SFTP with chrooted access only (or equivalent).
The regular solution using RSSH find here : http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-linux-unix-rssh-chroot-jail-setup.html seems over-killing to me if we want to manage multiple users...
I found the project MySecureShell which seems a lot simpler to install and to maintain.
Is it a good solution? Is there something better?
Thanks!!
Google Analytics allow you to view how many users completed funnels through a set of pages in order to reach a goal URL. The service also allows you to pass custom variables when tracking a page view.
Is it possible to combine the two, such that I create a funnel based upon the vale of a custom variable set for each visitor?
Both IE and Firefox allow you to block third-party cookies. In Firefox the option this option is under Privacy tab in Options dialog.
IE browser allows users to set up an exceptions. For example I can block all third-party cookies except for www.mysite.com.
Is there a way to create the same exception in Firefox?
Can you suggest a good battery meter utility for Windows? Battery status being graphically displayed in the taskbar is the (obvious) minimum requirement. Anything else the utility can inform or do is a plus.
(If the battery meter taskbar icon is turned off by an admin it does not appear for non-admin users. That could be another reason to look for a battery meter utility apart from the one which comes with Windows.)
I've got a zen slice running Ubuntu. I set the thing up as root and had "normal" bash and vim profiles, however the new users I've created for myself and others have no profiles.
I've tried copying the profiles from root to my user's home directories, but still don't have color or even machine name\login at the prompt.
How do I get the options transferred?
Even though the log file shows that there is over 1 GB of free space, we start receiving an error message every 3 or 4 days saying that the TempDB file is full. I know cursors impact the TempDB file, but is there anything else I should be looking at to see why this keeps happening? I've tried running SQL Profiler, but when running it, it slowed down the DB so much that the users were experiencing timeouts. What specific items should I check for in SQL Profiler?
I am trying to share my mobile broadband internet connection with other machines via wifi and am running windows 7. Users are able to connect to my machine, but not able to obtain an internet connection once they connect to me. Any ideas would be very helpful.
Does Windows firewall block this?
Hello,
I have created anonymous(everyone account) "hidden" shares on Windows 2003 to let our ASP.NET application access it from another server without credentials. I have added $ to share name to hide it from other users, but actually this is not solution because such shares can be easily discovered by other OS or some tools on Win.
Can I restrict shared folder access by IP?

Tomas
I installed and configured Apache Mobile Filter module for Apache to redirect users to mobile version of our website, depending on their user agents. I configured the module to use WURFL.
But as soon as I start Apache it hogs a large amount of memory (without any in-coming web requests):
Resident Memory: 300 to 400 MB
Virtual Memory: 300 to 650 MB
Without this module, Apache was consuming much lesser memory (4 to 10 MB).
What could be the reason here?
Does anyone know a jabber daemon which is very fast and uses few resources for just a single-user? The daemon should be configured to only accept one user. It does not need to scale well for a lot of users.
Trying to view a javascript file on my home server I get the following error:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /jquery-1.8.2.js on this server.
Apache/2.2.22 (Fedora) Server at 192.168.1.3 Port 80
I have given all users access to the file like this:
sudo chmod -R 777 /var/www/html/jquery-1.8.2.js
I have even gone as far as changing the user & group properties in the httpd.conf file.
So I've enabled PHP on my Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), and it's working great so long as:
1) I place the file in the ~/Sites directory
2) I use the http://localhost/~user/example.php URL instead of the file:///Users/user/Sites/example.php
I presume this is because unless both of those conditions are true, Apache is not involved, and thus neither is PHP. So is there any way to remove either of those conditions? (Well, really the latter, because the first is a symptom of the second)
