• mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting (null), can't find any log information

  Two ubuntu servers: 10.0.8.2 is the client, 192.168.20.58 is the server. Between the 2 machines, Ping works, ssh works (in both directions). From 10.0.8.2 showmount -e 192.168.20.58 Export list for 192.168.20.58: /imr/nfsshares/foobar 10.0.8.2 mount.nfs 192.168.20.58:/imr/nfsshares/foobar /var/data/foobar -v mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting (null) Found several things online, tried them all and still can't find any log information anywhere. On the server: [email protected]:/var/log# cat /etc/hosts.allow sendmail: all ALL: 10.0.8.2 /etc/hosts.deny is all comments How can I get a trail of log statements to figure this out? What does it take to get some logging so I have some idea of WHY it won't mount? • General logging won't work in MySQL

  I saw on SF that there's an option in MySQL to log all queries. So, in my version (mysql-server-5.0.45-7.el5 on CentOS 5.2) this appears to be a case of enabling the 'log' option, so I edited /etc/my.cnf to add this: [mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock user=mysql old_passwords= log=/var/log/mysql-general.log [mysqld_safe] log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid I then created the file and set permissions: # touch /var/log/mysql-general.log # chown mysql. /var/log/mysql-general.log # ls -l /var/log/mysql-general.log -rw-r--r-- 1 mysql mysql 0 Jan 18 15:22 /var/log/mysql-general.log But when I start mysqld I get: 120118 15:24:18 mysqld started ^G/usr/libexec/mysqld: File '/var/log/mysql-general.log' not found (Errcode: 13) 120118 15:24:18 [ERROR] Could not use /var/log/mysql-general.log for logging (error 13). Turning logging off for the whole duration of the MySQL server process. • cups log kills ubuntu 12.04 and sudoer permissions changed

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 as a desktop and recently had a weird crash with the log file for cups filling up the entire drive and not letting me back in, also what changed was /var/lib/sudo had changed from root to peter (me) I didn't make this change - I checked the history! I set the sudoers back to root and capped the max size for cups log Anyone had a similar experience? • Identifying Httpd error log in Fedora 16

  How do you find the cause of httpd errors in Fedora 16? The new systemctl command in Fedora 16 seems to horribly obscure any useful logging info. [root@host ~]# systemctl start httpd.service Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details. • TFS 2012: Backup Plan Fails with empty log file

  I have a Team Foundation Server 2012 installation with Power Tools, and I defined a backup plan using the wizard found in the "Database Backup Tools" in the Team Foundation Server Administration Console. I set the backup plan to do a full database backup on Sunday mornings, to another server in the network. I followed the wizard with no problems and the Backup Plan was set successfully. The edb file is 4.7 gigabytes, but the First Storage Group folder itself is 50+ gigabytes due to many, many log files for each day going back to 2009. Is there any way -- I've Googled and haven't found anything -- to notify Exchange when I've completed a full backup, and have it purge its log files? According to this and this, end backup should cause Exchange to "flush the transaction logs for that storage group" but only "if a successful backup of a storage group occurred", which leaves my question as: What constitutes a "successful backup", and why is what I'm doing not it?

  I have to find out in which exact format JCIFS stores the user principal in the "getUserPrincipal()" property. Therefor i created a test Environment like this: Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller Domain named "MYDOMAIN" Many Testusers in Active Directory Tomcat Application Server with my Web Application (which simply reads the user Principal and displays its values). The user should be logged in to the web-application with SSO therefor i need the format that jcifs is using to store the user. (For example user@MYDOMAIN or MYDOMAIN\user...) I tested the Authentication with other SSO frameworks with Kerberos Method and it works as expected. I'm now trying to use SSO through the NTLMHttpFilter of JCIFS. The problem now is that i'm somehow not able to change this setting. (I already was before) because the dropdown box to choose the authentication method is "greyed out". edit: just to make this clear, this dialog is on the client-side in the "local-security policies" As you can see from this screenshot, the chosen method is "Only send NTLMv2 responses" which is the wrong setting and i'm pretty sure that this is causing the error above. My question is now, why can't i change this setting? Why is it greyd out?

• JBoss thrown error looking up local address when starting

  Hello im installing a fresh Jboss 5.1 in a Centos 5.5 machine. I dont have Apache installed. • Dell OpenManage On Ubuntu Server 12.04 Cannot Log In

  I have a Dell Poweredge 2950 with 2X130GB and 2X2TB drives. I need to set them up in a RAID 1 array so that the 130GB Drives are mirrored and host the OS, while the 2TB drives are mirrored and are the content drives. So I go from 4 disks, down to two, one 130GB and one 2TB. I can do that in the BIOS RAID utility no problem. But I need to be able to manage the RAID arrays and be able to expand them WITHOUT shutting down the server. Now, to my understanding, openmanage will allow me to do that AND it runs on ubuntu. So I go and set it up and try to log into the web interface at and it will not let me log in. I have followed dell's guide to set up openmanage, even added the usernames to the files and permissions and such, however, cannot get it to let me log in or anything. I have reinstalled Openmanage several times, even reinstalled the OS three times, and nothing works. Google does not help either. It simply says login failed after hitting submit. Please Help

• Auto Log-Off Windows users - Windows 2003 domain

  Hi! I am trying to make windows clients automatically log off after some time, I have been trying to use the winexit.scr which I have seen working else where in a similar environment. After working though these instructions (I did read the comments and notice the original ADM provided is buggy) I've had no joy what so ever! Winexit.scr refuses to read any settings in the registry, even while using a test account I can access the required reg key(s); edit, add, and remove values. Essentially winexit.scr always uses it's default values: 30 second timeout, no forced log-out. What I really want is a 30 minute timeout with a forced log-out, closing all the users apps etc. I've tried removing and re-adding the ADM template, creating the GPO from scratch several times, giving various registry permissions - including full control to "Everybody" just for fun! Oh, clients are all win XP SP3, DC is win 2003 R2 SP2. So, can anybody suggest something? Cheers!

  I'm just wondering if I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab. I changed something in this file manually due to problem with awstats report. I am using ISPConfig 3 with the help of the tutorial from howtoforge. But due to removing/deleting of some account, the configuration of fstab and mtab messed up. I also ask this question at howtoforge forum but until now no one has answered. If you'd like to read my question please visit it here. I tried very hard to fix the problem w/o luck. As of now the log of example.com is pointed to: /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log when it should be: /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log So I am thinking that this is because of fstab and mtab. Please guide me how to point the log correctly to it's default directory.   I have got a weird problem. My windows 7 has two user accounts (both are administrator). I can log in to one account and do all sort of work. But whenever I try to log in to other account, it shows a blank screen and a messagebox pops up with "windows explorer has stopped working". I read the similar question and followed all the steps, but no luck. Later, I viewed the event log and found that, explorer.exe could not access a file. I checked the location but the file is there. The actual message is: Windows cannot access the file C:\Users\testuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Caches\{AFBF9F1A-8EE8-4C77-AF34-C647E37CA0D9}.1.ver0x0000000000000020.db for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program Windows Explorer because of this error. The question is, how can I resolve this issue? Should I just delete the file or replace it with another one to stop explorer.exe from crashing? offtopic: What is the content of this file and why it is necessary?

Recently, we noticed that over the last two weeks there have been tens of thousands of Audit Failure entries in the Security Event Log with Task Category of Logon - these have been coming in about every two seconds, but interesting stopped altogether as of two days ago. In general, the event description looks like the following: An account failed to log on. Subject: Security ID: SYSTEM Account Name: ...The Hosting Account... Account Domain: ...The Domain... Logon ID: 0x3e7 Logon Type: 10 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: david Account Domain: ...The Domain... Failure Information: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. Status: 0xc000006d Sub Status: 0xc0000064 Process Information: Caller Process ID: 0x154c Caller Process Name: C:\Windows\System32\winlogon.exe Network Information: Workstation Name: ...The Domain... Source Network Address: 173.231.24.18 Source Port: 1605 The value in the Account Name field differs. Above you see "david" but there are ones with "john", "console", "sys", and even ones like "support83423" and whatnot. The Logon Type field indicates that the logon attempt was a remote interactive attempt via Terminal Services or Remote Desktop. My presumption is that these are some brute force attacks attempting to guess username/password combinations in order to log into our dedicated server. Are these presumptions correct? Are these types of attacks pretty common? Is there a way to help stop these types of attacks? We need to be able to access the desktop via Remote Desktop so simply turning off that service is not feasible. Thanks

• Looking for way to log process terminations on OS X (Mac)

  I'm looking for a way to log all process terminations on my Mac (OS X 10.6.8). (And see pid, timestamp, process name) I've implemented something similar for HP-UX, but it required a kernel-level driver and intercepting several variations of "exit()" (the normal one, and the one invoked on behalf of a process while it's aborting). Why do I want the info? I've been seeing messages in my system log file (dmesg) like: CODE SIGNING: cs_invalid_page(0x1000): p=91550[GoogleSoftwareUp] clearing CS_VALID CODE SIGNING: cs_invalid_page(0x1000): p=92088[GoogleSoftwareUp] clearing CS_VALID Although dmesg lacks timestamps, apps/Utilities/Console : Database : all : search for CS_VALID shows that the messages appears about once every 58 1/2 minutes. I suspect the number after "p=" is a process id (pid) ... but for a process that has long since terminated by the time I see the message. So, if there was a process termination log mechanism that recorded the pid, the time of termination, the reason for termination, and the process name (at time of termination), that would probably allow me to determine who's causing those errors to be logged! (No, I'm not running Chrome on my Mac, and "ps -ef | grep -i goog" gets no hits either ... I'm not consciously running any Google apps on the Mac) thanks, Stan [email protected]

• SQL Server log backups "stalling"

  I have interited a box running SQL Server 2008 and Windows 2003, and have had a few events where largeish (35GB) log backups "stall", both before and after the installation of SQL 2008 SP1. The server log ships to a standby, so regular log backups are taken at 15 minute intervals. However, after an index reorg causes the log to grow to about 35GB (on a DB with about 17GB of data), the next log backup runs to ~95% completion, then seems to stop. The process shows as suspended, with a wait state of BACKUPIO. CPU, read, and write activity on the SPID also does not change, and the process stays in this state for hours, when normally a backup of this size should complete in about 20 minutes. This server has a single RAID-1 volume, thus the source database files and destination backup files are on the same volume. However, I cannot determine if another process is blocking the backup. The backup SPID cannot be killed, and the only way to terminate the log backup and clear the lock on the backup file is to cycle the SQL Server service. There was one event where the backup terminated completely, with an error that another process had locked the backup file, but no details about what that process was. Can anyone suggest a cause or diagnostic process to this situation?

Looking carefully, the time stamp and IP address are exactly the same in both entries. How can it be possible to have 2 downloads at the same time by the same person. Should I count it as 2 in my programme or as 1? But of no use. I suspect that there could be some other reason other than these parameters which is causing the issue. Can anyone please help me on this?

• Log connections to program

  Besides for using iptables to log incoming connections.. Is there a way to log established inbound connections to a service that you don't have the source to (suppose the service doesn't log stuff like this on its own)? What I'm wanting to do is gather some information based on who's connecting to be able to tell things like what times of the day the service is being used the most, where in the world the main user base is, etc. I am aware I can use netstat and just hook it up to a cron script, but that might not be accurate, since the script could only run as frequently as a minute. Here is what I am thinking right now: Write a program that constantly polls netstat, looking for established connections that didn't appear in the previous poll. This idea seems like such a waste of cpu time though, since there may not be a new connection.. Write a wrapper program that accepts inbound connections on whatever port the service runs on, but then I wouldn't know how to pass that connection along to the real service. Edit: Just occurred to me that this question might be better for stackoverflow, though I am not certain. Sorry if this is the wrong place.
