• Can't connect to WCF service on Android

  I am trying to connect to a .NET WCF service in Android using kSOAP2 (v 2.1.2), but I keep getting a fatal exception whenever I try to make the service call. I'm having a bit of difficulty tracking down the error and can't seem to figure out why it's happening. In summary, the first problem was the program being unable to open a connection due to missing methods or libraries due to using vanilla kSOAP2 rather than a modified library for Android (kSOAP2-Android). The second issue was a settings issue. • In my WCF service with IXmlSerializable class, I get ArrayOfXElement[] instead of ObservableCollecti

  I have an existing class (I didn't write) that implements IXmlSerializable. I decided to create a WCF service so my Silverlight application could access this class. I return the class as List. In the generated proxy, instead of an ObservableCollection like I'm expecting, I get ArrayOfXElement[]. If I remove the IXmlSerializable attribute, I get an the ObservableCollection. I don't quite understand what is happening, but I just want my SL app to receive an ObservableCollection. Is my only choice to create a DTO class and send back a list of those? Any advice?

• iPhone: How to Get Basic Authentication to HTTPS Web Service Using NSURLCredential

  I am trying to call an https web service (RESTful) using basic authentication. It works fine if I put the credentials in the url itself but I would rather add it to the request so that the password does not appear, for instance in an exception. I am using the following code: NSURLCredential *credential = [NSURLCredential credentialWithUser:@"myuser" password:@"mypassword" persistence:NSURLCredentialPersistenceForSession]; NSURLProtectionSpace *protectionSpace = [[NSURLProtectionSpace alloc] initWithHost:@"example.com" port:443 protocol:@"https" realm:nil authenticationMethod:NSURLAuthenticationMethodHTTPBasic]; [[NSURLCredentialStorage sharedCredentialStorage] setDefaultCredential:credential forProtectionSpace:protectionSpace]; NSURLConnection *theConnection = [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; but it does not work. The didReceiveAuthenticationChallenge delegate method gets called and I can add a credential there but ideally I would send it with the request. Any ideas?

  Hi, Im having issues with my WCF service. I need to do a windsor container injection pre application_start and noticed i can use the AppInitialise method. It works on visual studio debug but when I deploy to IIS the code does not get fired.. • How to run batched WCF service calls in Silverlight BackgroundWorker

  Is there any existing plumbing to run WCF calls in batches in a BackgroundWorker? Obviously since all Silverlight WCF calls are async - if I run them all in a backgroundworker they will all return instantly. I just don't want to implement a nasty hack if theres a nice way to run service calls and collect the results. Doesnt matter what order they are done in All operations are independent I'd like to have no more than 5 items running at once Edit: i've also noticed (when using Fiddler) that no more than about 7 calls are able to be sent at any one time. Even when running out-of-browser this limit applies. Is this due to my default browser settings - or configurable also. obviously its a poor man's solution (and not suitable for what i want) but something I'll probably need to take account of to make sure the rest of my app remains responsive if i'm running this as a background task and don't want it using up all my connections.

  We have an application running locally which two days worked fine and now we get the: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor error. I've tested the connection using TNSPing which resolved correctly and Tried SQLPlus to try connecting, which failed with the same error. (i.e. Sqlplus username/passowrd@addressname[or host name] The TNS Listener on the server is running. Oracle itself on the server is running. We don't know of any changes that were made to this environment. Anything else we can test to figure this one out? Thanks, Jacques

• Mercurial hg clone error - "abort: error: Name or service not known"

  I have installed the latest hg package available for Fedora Linux. However, hg clone reports an error. hg clone http://localmachine001:8000/ repository reports: "abort: error: Name or service not known" localmachine001 is a computer within the local network. I can ping it from my Linux box without any problems. I can also use the same http address and browse the existing code. However, hg clone does not work. If I execute the same command from my Macintosh machine, I can easily clone the repository. Some Internet resources recommend editing .hgrc file, and adding proxy to it: [http_proxy] host=proxy:8080 I have tried that without any success. Also, I assume that proxy is not needed in this case, since the hg server machine is in my local network. Can anyone recommend me what should I do, or how could I track the problem? • Passing to service custom class instance in WCF

  Hi, I have my custom class Customer with its properties. I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out.   We are wanting to implement Two-Way SSL security from WCF to OSB Services. We have successfully deployed the certificates so that when you browse to the service with IE you get the appropriate prompt for certificate and then it takes you immediately to the WSDL. But, when you attempt to generate a proxy using svcutil as defined in steps 8 and 9 in this MSDN article. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949005.aspx I get the error: A reply message was received for operation 'Get' with action 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/transfer/Get'. However, your client code requires action 'http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/09/transfer/GetResponse'. The OSB services are set to use Soap 1.2 and the svcutil.exe.config we use is identicle to the article except for the findValue and x509FindType. Instead we used the FindByThumbprint pointing to the "My" store name and "CurrentUser" store location. The cert is there and is the same cert we select from the IE prompt.

• Catching an exception when trying to launch a URL service from within Safari on an iPhone

  Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows - if I have an iPhone app that is registered with a URL service (e.g. alocola://), which means another app can invoke it by calling its URL - is there any way to embed this URL in an HTML page, and catch the exception if the app is not installed on the user's iPhone? Or in other words / more details: I would like to write an app that conforms to some URL invocation (like alocola:// is doing), but would like this app to be launched from a web page read by mobile Safari. However, if the app is not installed on the user's iphone, I would like to be able to display a note saying "you must have the alocola app installed on your iPhone, please download it from the app store by clicking here". Is there a way (perhaps using javascript) to have Safari indicate that the URL cannot be invoked, and catch this in order to display an intelligent message? Thanks :-) Ariel

• Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

  I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

• COM/DCOM problem when hosting executable is run as a service

  I am struggling for days now with the following problem: We have an executable that hosts a COM server, say x.exe. The COM object is instantiated as follows on the calling site: hRes = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_InterceptX, NULL, CLSCTX_SERVER, IID_IInterceptX, (void**)&pInterceptX); It all works fine when x runs as an regular application. We have a tool (I don't know how it works) that encapsulates x.exe so that it runs as a service under Windows (x.exe is a running process). In this case, we never receive a COM call in x.exe (validated by logging). Here is the weird part: From logging the calling site, I can tell that the COM object has been successfully instantiated and also the call to an interface function does not produce an error (SUCEEDED(hres) is true). Any ideas?

  Is there any way at all to create a "mock" entity type for use in a WCF Service Operation? We have some queries we do that we need to optimize by exposing as a ServiceOperation. The problem is in order to do so we would result in a very long list of primitative types... Ex SomeoneHelpMe(int time, string name, string address, string i, string purple, string foo, int stillGoing, int tooMany, etc...) And we really need to reduce this to SomeoneHelpedMe(CustomEntityNotMappedToAnything e) This would also help us when it comes time to write some complex queries since there is a 3 param limitation... I saw this will be possible in 4.0 using "complex types", but i am still in the 3.5SP1 world. Let me know if anyone needs more information.
