  if I have a stored procedure say create procure w AS ALTER TABLE t ADD x char(1) UPDATE t set x =1 Even when it lets me create that stored procedure (if I create it when x exists), when it runs, there is an error on the UPDATE statement because column x doesn't exist. What's the conventional way to deal with this, it must come up all the time? I can work around it by putting the UPDATE inside EXEC, is there another/better way? Thanks

  Is there any pitfalls when using char*'s to write cross platform code that does memory access? I'm working on a play memory allocator to better understand how to debug memmory issues. I have come to believe char*'s are preferable because of the ability to do pointer arithmetic and derefernce them over void*'s, is that true? • What is the best way to observe the scroll over an element with overflow set?

  It's simple to observe the documents scroll event but I can't seem to find anything relating to the scroll of any other element with css property overflow being set? To get around this myself i've been observing mousemove which only fires while you hold down on the scrollbar but this would need to be teamed with a mouse wheel observe also to get the full effect. Could anyone point me in the right direction for a better way of implementing this?

The screen freezes for half a second every time the program takes a snapshot causing the computer to seem to be very slow :( Can anybody suggest me a better method of doing this ?

  if for a class i include "background:#252", the browser will assume the rest of the background properties that i didn't specify. If instead I used "background-color:#252", would it cause the browser to assume the exact same about the rest of the background properties that i leave unspecified? background:#252 is shorter, but i wonder if it would be better to use background-color:#252? thanks.

Learning C helped me a lot when I started working. I've only started learning Lisp now and I found it amazing that the concepts it supported from the very start are still very relevant today.   Hi, I'm creating a used cars website (written in PHP), and I'm stuck on sending advanced search options from form. I have more than 30 of them and I wonder if it's possible, and how, to send them in one variable (for example &options=1,2,3,5,6,10 or some other way..). • empty() doesn't work with codeigniter input class

  This is really weird. Whenever I call something like if(empty($this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} The whole PHP is "down" and I get a blank page from the website (even when I don't pass through this empty(input) line). I know this is not the right method and it is stupid, I change the code to if(!$this->input->post("foo")){//blabla} Better I guess ? Seriously, how come the empty(input) breaks down the entire PHP page ? (I can't get any echo "something").
