• Specifying --host1 as localhost with port 8983 in autobench

  I am using autobench for benchmarking in ubuntu 8.10 autobench --single_host --host1 localhost --uri1 /solr/admin --low_rate 20 --high_rate 200 --rate_step 20 --num_call 10 --num_conn 5000 --timeout 5 --file bench1.tsv This is the command which I gave. It is taking the default port as 80 and the number of replies and requests are as shown below **Errors: total 5000 client-timo 0 socket-timo 0 connrefused 5000 connreset 0 Errors: fd-unavail 0 addrunavail 0 ftab-full 0 other 0 Zero replies received, test invalid: rate 20 httperf --timeout=5 --client=0/1 --server=localhost --port=80 --uri=/solr/admin --rate=40 --send-buffer=4096 --recv-buffer=16384 --num-conns=5000 --num-calls=10 Maximum connect burst length: 4 Total: connections 5000 requests 0 replies 0 test-duration 124.976 s** But, I want the port to be 8983. In all the examples that I have seen in the autobench tutorial, --host1 is a website (such as, www.test.com). Can anyone suggest how to use localhost taking the port as 8983? Thanks, in advance.

• Const references when dereferencing iterator on set, starting from Visual Studio 2010

  Starting from Visual Studio 2010, iterating over a set seems to return an iterator that dereferences the data as 'const data' instead of non-const. The following code is an example of something that does compile on Visual Studio 2005, but not on 2010 (this is an artificial example, but clearly illustrates the problem we found on our own code). In this example, I have a class that stores a position together with a temperature. I define comparison operators (not all them, just enough to illustrate the problem) that only use the position, not the temperature. To check the correctness of the comparison operator, I add data points with the same position multiple times. When writing the contents of the set, I can clearly see there are only 3 points in the set. The for-loop loops over the set, and sets the temperature. Logically this is allowed, since the temperature is not used in the comparison operators. This code compiles correctly in Visual Studio 2005, but gives compilation errors in Visual Studio 2010 on the following line (in the for-loop): DataPoint &point = *it; The error given is that it can't assign a "const DataPoint" to a [non-const] "DataPoint &". It seems that you have no decent (= non-dirty) way of writing this code in VS2010 if you have a comparison operator that only compares parts of the data members. Possible solutions are: Adding a const-cast to the line where it gives an error Making temperature mutable and making setTemperature a const method But to me both solutions seem rather 'dirty'. It looks like the C++ standards committee overlooked this situation. Or not? What are clean solutions to solve this problem? Did some of you encounter this same problem and how did you solve it? • Use ASP.Net server control code generation from .ashx

  I'm trying to take an existing bunch of code that was previously on a full .aspx page, and do the same stuff in a .ashx handler. The code created an HtmlTable object, added rows and cells to those rows, then added that html table the .aspx's controls collection, then added it to a div that was already on the page. I am trying to keep the code in tact but instead of putting the control into a div, actually generate the html and I'll return that in a big chunk of text that can be called via AJAX client-side. HtmlTable errors out when I try to use the InnerHtml property (says it isn't supported), and when I try RenderControl, after making first a TextWriter and next an HtmlTextWriter object, I get the error that Page cannot be null. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions?

• Name of the concept of designing an interface to allow expert users to become more efficient?

  I'm searching for sources and further information on a particular concept in user experience design. It's not a particularly complicated concept, just that when designing user interfaces, you should both make it intuitive and simple for new users, but also provide way for users to become more efficient as they become more familiar with the application. An example could be including a prominent button for a common action for new users, but also providing a keyboard shortcut / mnemonic for expert users. However, that's just an example, another example could be providing full functionality through a GUI, but allow expert users to script the same actions. The point is it's more difficult to learn, but it makes them more efficient. I'm pretty sure there's a name for that which I can't recall, and I'm having trouble searching for sources and references on it. Name of the concept of designing an interface to allow expert users to become more efficient?

I was thinking of giving users to my website a long API key to store in the settings of their iPhone instead of asking them to login with a username/password (seems to be the Slicehost iPhone app approach.) Which is the best way to get a user to login securely? I have full control over the design of the iPhone app and website so have a lot of flexibility.

• Optimal storage of data structure for fast lookup and persistence

  Scenario I have the following methods: public void AddItemSecurity(int itemId, int[] userIds) public int[] GetValidItemIds(int userId) Initially I'm thinking storage on the form: itemId -> userId, userId, userId and userId -> itemId, itemId, itemId AddItemSecurity is based on how I get data from a third party API, GetValidItemIds is how I want to use it at runtime. There are potentially 2000 users and 10 million items. Item id's are on the form: 2007123456, 2010001234 (10 digits where first four represent the year). AddItemSecurity does not have to perform super fast, but GetValidIds needs to be subsecond. Also, if there is an update on an existing itemId I need to remove that itemId for users no longer in the list. I'm trying to think about how I should store this in an optimal fashion. Preferably on disk (with caching), but I want the code maintainable and clean. If the item id's had started at 0, I thought about creating a byte array the length of MaxItemId / 8 for each user, and set a true/false bit if the item was present or not. That would limit the array length to little over 1mb per user and give fast lookups as well as an easy way to update the list per user. By persisting this as Memory Mapped Files with the .Net 4 framework I think I would get decent caching as well (if the machine has enough RAM) without implementing caching logic myself. Parsing the id, stripping out the year, and store an array per year could be a solution. The ItemId - UserId[] list can be serialized directly to disk and read/write with a normal FileStream in order to persist the list and diff it when there are changes. Each time a new user is added all the lists have to updated as well, but this can be done nightly. Question Should I continue to try out this approach, or are there other paths which should be explored as well? I'm thinking SQL server will not perform fast enough, and it would give an overhead (at least if it's hosted on a different server), but my assumptions might be wrong. Any thought or insights on the matter is appreciated. And I want to try to solve it without adding too much hardware :) [Update 2010-03-31] I have now tested with SQL server 2008 under the following conditions. Table with two columns (userid,itemid) both are Int Clustered index on the two columns Added ~800.000 items for 180 users - Total of 144 million rows Allocated 4gb ram for SQL server Dual Core 2.66ghz laptop SSD disk Use a SqlDataReader to read all itemid's into a List Loop over all users If I run one thread it averages on 0.2 seconds. When I add a second thread it goes up to 0.4 seconds, which is still ok. From there on the results are decreasing. Adding a third thread brings alot of the queries up to 2 seonds. A forth thread, up to 4 seconds, a fifth spikes some of the queries up to 50 seconds. The CPU is roofing while this is going on, even on one thread. My test app takes some due to the speedy loop, and sql the rest. Which leads me to the conclusion that it won't scale very well. At least not on my tested hardware. Are there ways to optimize the database, say storing an array of int's per user instead of one record per item. But this makes it harder to remove items.

• Asp.net 4.0 site fails because no handler mapped with Classic appPool

  When I create a Asp.net app and flip the appPool to "ASP.NET v4.0 Classic" it fails with the following error: HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. After some searching it seems to be the handler not mapping correctly for the Classic mode but I can't find out where or how to fix that. I have the full .Net 4.0 install with VS2010 and the app works fine if I flip the appPool to Integrated. Also, it's a Windows 7 machine (I'm having the same problem on a Vista box). • In Eclipse, how to open a file browser in the directory of the currently edited file

  Hi, I know it's possible in eclipse to open file browsers from your project's resource browser, but is it possible for files that aren't part of your project ? Typically external includes are not found in your resource browser... If there is the equivalent of $(resource_loc) for the editor, it would work.. But I wasn't able to find it. Can anyone help me on this ? thanks! JC EDIT : I Found StartExplorer, but it's a joke of a plug-in. It is hardcoded to use WINDOWS explorer or cmd.exe. Also, it still requires you to use the resource browser. Other than that it can open paths selected in the editor, but they must be full paths.

• How do I run a ruby script, that I put in my /lib/tasks/ directory in my Rails app, once?

  Eventually I would like to get to setting it up as a Rake task and do a cron job, but for right now...all I want to do is take my ruby script that used to work as a standalone script and have it work within my Rails app. I renamed the file to be .rake instead of .rb and tried doing rake my_script at the command-line, but that gave me this error message: rake aborted! Don't know how to build task 'my_script' (See full trace by running task with --trace) How do I run this script within my Rails environment? • Running a GWT application inside an IFRAME from an ASP.NET 3.5 app?

  We are looking at integrating a full-blown GWT (Google Web Toolkit 2.0) application with an existing ASP.NET 3.5 application. My first gut reaction is that this is a horrible frankenstein idea. However, the customer has insisted that we use this application developed by a third-party. I have almost NO CONTROL over the development of the GWT app. My first thought is to actually attempt to embed this in an iFrame. Because GWT is running under Tomcat/Jakarta, it is hosted on a different server from the .NET app so the iFrame src will be to a URL on the other machine. I need to utilize our own ASP.NET authorization scheme to restrict access to the embedded GWT application. The GWT app also uses embedded java applets, which don't seem to be working right now inside the iframe. Any major problems with this approach that anyone can see? Will GWT work on an iframe while hosted on a different machine?

  ...and are there any other caveat for other platforms? I create an app.config for a win forms project, for example Application.exe. By default I expect that at runtime my application is going to look for a file called Application.exe.config. But there seem to be exceptions to this, for example in a Windows Server 2003 environment an app will look for Application.config. The full path of the config file being searched for is different in Windows Server 2003, why is this? Where is the definition for these cosmic app.config loading rules?

• "Filtering" Cells in a UITableView. Multiple Views? Subviews?

  (First question related to iPhone development, so apologies for sounding off-track.) I'm creating a view that has a few things; a UITabBarController controlling 3 UITableViews. Two of these TableViews are filtered versions of the 3rd. All of them will be making a JSON call (still working on that) to retrieve a list of objects. So, because these views are related in some way, would there be a more "sane" way to display this data? With say, subviews? Or would I have to just create 1 view for each that returns the desired data and be done with it? If it helps at all, I have full control over the API I'm talking with, so changes to that that help with this don't really matter to me too much. Thanks in advance!

  I am starting to give up troubleshooting this issue I had... I had an .ascx page and had the following user control in it: <td> <Club:DatePicker ID="dp1" runat="server" /> </td> however in my code behind when I tried to write methods: public System.DateTime startDateTime { get { return dp1.SelectedDate.Add(tp1.SelectedTime.TimeOfDay); } set { dp1.SelectedDate = value; tp1.SelectedTime = value; } } It can't reference dp1(dp1 is underlined in red) as well as tp1... why is this?? I've tried to convert the solution to a web application and yet it doesn't work.   I need to pickle a complex object that refers to django model objects. The standard pickling process stores a denormalized object in the pickle. So if the object changes on the database between pickling and unpickling, the model is now out of date. (I know this is true with in-memory objects too, but the pickling is a convenient time to address it.) So what I'd like is a way to not pickle the full django model object. Instead just store its class and id, and re-fetch the contents from the database on load. Can I specify a custom pickle method for this class? I'm happy to write a wrapper class around the django model to handle the lazy fetching from db, if there's a way to do the pickling.

  I am trying to have people be able to open HTML widgets by clicking on a button in my Joomla page. All the widgets are different sizes. The code is entered as HTML in Jumi. Currently I have the action set to: "On click open in new window without browser navigation." The problem is this this always opens in a full screen size with the widget showing up in a corner. How do I control the size of this new window for each widget? Thanks

• Watin from TeamCity not running as a Windows Service

  I'm trying to run Watin from within a TeamCity build, using nUnit. All tests run fine locally. I know you cannot run the full Watin tests (i.e. POST) from TeamCity if it is running as a Windows Service. You must start the build agent from a .bat file. But, I don't want to have to login to the server for it to start. I've tried getting a Scheduled Task (in Windows Server 2008) to fire the agent.bat file on StartUp (not Login), but with no luck. Has anyone else got Watin/TeamCity running from a Scheduled Task? Thanks, Pete

I can find information about this on the Internet but need specific info about how to work with Integrated Pipeline mode (presumably through web.config?) to allow HTTP headers to be manipulated.   Hi, After much wrangling I have a development environment for building sharepoint webparts in c#. I'm completely new to SP development, so I haven't quite found the various API docs, so I'm hoping someone can help get me started. Eventually, I want to write a simple web part that allows its user to display different content depending on who the current user is. What I'd like to do first though is just build a dead simple webpart that will simply print out the current user's details - username, full name and any permissions groups that they have. Thanks

• Where to find good 3d articles for wpf?

  Hello, I am beginner in WPF. I am basically a Silverlight guy and as i know it doesn't support the full real 3d model of WPF. I am getting interested in learning 3D in WPF. I googled up for WPF and i get very old links which are 3 years old back when WPF was known as Avalon. They may not be of any use in V4.0. Can anybody refer me some links where i can learn WPF 3D from basics? Thanks in advance :)
