  I'd like to build the olb3d library with my visual studio 2005 compiler but this failes due to template errors. To be more specific, the following expression seem to be a problem: void function(T u[Lattice::d]) On the website of the project is stated that prpably my compiler is not capable of such complicated template expressions - one should use the gcc 3.4.1. My question is now if there is a way to upgrade my vs c++ compiler so it can handle template expressions on the level as the gcc 3.4.1? Maybe it helps if I get a newer version of visual studio? • Can't run the ActionBarCompat sample

  I am having trouble compiling and running the ActionBarCompat sample of Android 16. I have API level 16 as the build target selected, which seems to build fine, but when I try to debug these errors pop up. Of course I could change the min API level in the manifest, but what would be the point of that? I have made no changes to the sample, so how come it is not working properly? • Objective-C++ visibility question

  I have linked a library with my program. It works fine. The only problem is that there visibility errors/warnings (thousands of them). They are all of the form: newlib::method() has different visibility (default) in newlib.a and (hidden) in AppDelegate.o It is always with AppDelegate.o. I have tried to set the visibility for both the library and the main app in several ways: the visibility checkmark in XCode, and -fvisibility. Non seem to have worked. Is there somethin special about AppDelegate.mm?

  Is there an easy way to get the MvcRouteHandler to convert all hyphens in the action and controller sections of an incoming URL to underscores as hyphens are not supported in method or class names. This would be so that I could support such structures as sample.com/test-page/edit-details mapping to Action edit_details and Controller test_pagecontroller while continuing to use MapRoute method. I understand I can specify an action name attribute and support hyphens in controller names which out manually adding routes to achieve this however I am looking for an automated way so save errors when adding new controllers and actions.

  Hi. So I have the (mostly vilified) #define MAX( a, b ) ( ((a) > (b)) ? (a) : (b) ) somewhere in a program (yes, yes, I know). At some point in the code there is a comparison X>-1?, where X is (as far as I can tell) a (signed) integer. The line is j += MAX(bmGs[i], bmBc[(int)y[i + j]] - m + 1 + i);, where y here is a char*. Not necessarily surprisingly, I find that the macro is returning -1 as the larger number (I'm guessing too long a number for int or an unsigned issue, but I can't find it). I would like to know techniques you guys may have for finding these kinds of errors. Notice that I'm not asking for programming advice about whether or not to use that macro, I'm sure folks are dying to tell me I should refrain from things like that, but the question is going somewhere else. • BASH: Checking for environment variables

  Hi folks, I am trying to check the value of an environment variable and depending on the value do certain things and it works fine as long as the variable is set. When it isn't though I get a whole bunch of errors (as BASH is trying to compare the string I specify with an undefined variable, I guess) I tried implementing an extra check to prevent it happening but no luck. • Using Django view variables inside templates

  Hi, this is a rather basic question (I'm new to Django) but I'm having trouble using a variable set in my view inside my template. If I initialize a string or list inside my view (i.e. h = "hello") and then attempt to call it inside a template: {{ h }} there is neither output nor errors. Similarly, if I try to use a variable inside my template that doesn't exist: {{ asdfdsadf }} there is again no error reported. Is this normal? And how can I use my variables within my templates. Thanks!

  I was going through an article today when it mentioned the following: "We've found many errors over the years. One of the absolute best was the following in the X Window System: if(getuid() != 0 && geteuid == 0) { ErrorF("Only root"); exit(1); } It allowed any local user to get root access. (The tautological check geteuid == 0 was intended to be geteuid() == 0. In its current form, it compress the address of geteuid to 0; given that the function exists, its address is never 0)." The article explained what was wrong with the code but I would like to know what it means to say that "It allowed any local user to get root access". I am not an expert in C but can someone give me an exact context in which this exploit would work? Specifically, what I mean is, lets say I am the local user, how would I get root access if we assume this code to be present somewhere?

• Not compile code blocks when publishing?

  I have many lines i just use for debugging and helpers. Is there a way i can mark these so they do not compile when publishing a project but still can use when running/debugging my program within Eclipse? Even better would be to mark a certain field as debug only and discard everything that has to do with that field completely when publishing. I understand this might get one in trouble when using fields like that and using that in critical parts of the code. But i often find myself initializing a lot of debug fields then comment them out which results in errors down the line if i do not comment those out as well. So is there some way to handle this in a better and more efficient way?

  I've been trying for weeks, literally, to rename these URLs and also ensure the old one is 301 redirected to the new one: www.example.com/?mod=11&p=215 - www.example.com/clean-url-section www.example.com/?mod=96&tab=6 - www.example.com/clean-url-section-2 Does anyone have any idea why I am having no luck, I got 500 server errors or nothing at all! Is it because of the question marks and characters? I'd be grateful for any help. I have tried this (below) and it seems to be redirecting to the http:// www.example.com/new-page (this page doesn't exist, as I only want it to rename the page BUT use a 301 so that search engines continue you to value it) RewriteCond %{query_string} mod=96&tab=6 RewriteRule (.*) http:// www. example.com/new-page? • Rails: Is there a way to check for incomplete JPG file upload?

  I have a Rails app that processes and serves up jpg files that were uploaded via FTP. On several occasions the FTP process was disconnected and left many incomplete .jpg files. I was surprised to see that the incomplete jpgs behave as normal jpg files in my app even tho they have incomplete image data. I have since implemented a more robust FTP process where the uploaded file is initially *.tmp and gets renamed to .jpg after an FTP success code is received. My problem is, I still have all of these incomplete jpg files on the server and can't figure out how to programmatically weed them out. I can actually display them in a view without generating any errors, but there is only a partial image there. I tried RMagick but they all successfully load (using Image.read) and report the valid x & y resolutions. I have so far not been able to determine a way to programmatically differentiate between an incomplete and complete jpg uploaded image. Any ideas?

• Laying out JPanels to make a simple GUI

  Hello, first of all, this is more or less my first GUI and ive learned Java for not more then a week, so it might contain some serious programming errors. What i have right now is: Buttons and labels are part of OptionPanel and are on the left, DrawingPanel is about 5x5 px in size and is on the right. What I am trying to do is a simple test, to get me more familiar with the GUI. • What wiki tools exist to generate shippable user doc from a wiki?

  I am looking into using a wiki (prefer mediawiki, but not a req.) as the repository for developer generated documentation (User Guides, Release Notes, Application Notes, Errata, etc.) from a collaborative/easy-to-update point of view a wiki seems like a good match, however since this documentation will ultimately ship to customers we want to be able to export the documents in their final state (e.g. during the release cycle) to static versions that no longer include histories. Ideally the export would leave the document n a form where errors could be easily fixed by a non-programmer It would be good if niceties like section ordering and table of contents were available, or easy to add after the fact. Are any tools with features like these avalible?

  I've got a variable list of associative arrays that I want to iterate through and retrieve their key/value pairs. I iterate through a single associative array by listing all its keys and getting the values, ie. for key in "${!queue1[@]}" do echo "key : $key" echo "value : ${queue1[$key]}" done The tricky part is that the names of the associative arrays are variable variables, e.g. given count = 5, the associative arrays would be named queue1, queue2, queue3, queue4, queue5. I'm trying to replace the sequence above based on a count, but so far every combination of parentheses and eval has not yielded much more then bad substitution errors. e.g below: for count in {1,2,3,4,5} do for key in "${!queue${count}[@]}" do echo "key : $key" echo "value : ${queue${count}[$key]}" done done Help would be very much appreciated!

• Cannot bind to list<T>.property or list<T>.item.property in details section of Telerik report

  I have created a Telerik report and I am setting the datasource on runtime to an object with some properties and a List. I am using the properties in the page and report header sections and i want to use the list as the details. Now the problem is binding to the List's item properties in the details section. I have played around with the expression builder and it seems that i should access the properties like this : [=Fields.myList.Item.myProperty] when i run the program i get a nice big red rectangle with the following error : An error has occured while processing TextBox 'textBox28':Common Language Runtime detected an invalid program. I have tried to change different variants of expression which also gives me other errors [=Fields.myList.myPropery] An error has occured while processing TextBox 'textBox28': The expression contains object 'myProperty' that is not defined in the current context. The closest i have gotton was with the object it self, which outputs the object.toString() [=Fields.myList]

• Can I detect unused extra parameters passed to javascript methods?

  In Javascript I can call any method with more than the necessary amount of parameters and the extra parameters are silently ignored. e.g. letters = ['a','b','c'] //correct letters.indexOf('a') //This also works without error or warning letters.indexOf('a', "blah", "ignore me", 38) Are there ways to detect cases where this occurs? My motivation is that in my experience cases where this occurs are usually bugs. Identification of these by code analysis or at runtime would help track these errors down. These cases are especially prevalent where people are expecting alterations to base types which may not have occurred. Logging a warning where this happens e.g. Date.parse('02--12--2012', 'dd--MM--YYYY') Notes: To be clear I would like a solution that doesn't involve me sprinkling checks all over my code and other peoples' code.

• Rails object inheritence with belongs_to

  I have a simple has_many/belongs_to relationship between Report and Chart. The issue I'm having is that my Chart model is a parent that has children. So in my Report model I have class Report < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :charts end And my Chart model is a parent, where Pie, Line, Bar all inherit from Chart. I'm not sure where the belongs_to :report belongs within the chart model, or children of chart model. I get errors when I attempt to access chart.report because the object is of type "Class" undefined local variable or method `report' for #< Class:0x104974b90 The Chart model uses STI so its pulling say.. 'Pie' from the chart_type column in the charts table.. what am I missing?
