    Let me just say thanks in advance. I am having issues getting google-chrome browser into full KIOSK MODE with no browser bar on a linux platform Looking through the google forums I have found numerous postings on how to get Chrome to show full kiosk mode BUT tried to execute with --kiosk but doesnt seem to get the job done. I dont know if this is platform specific or not, but any useful information would help. I know F11 will display the browser in full kiosk mode, with no browser bar BUT is there a way to do this with a linux script and no need for a monkey pressing F11??

  • Batch copy gives errors, xcopy works fine

    I am writing a general file backup program. It searches the drive for files matching a set of types and then writes them to a folder on the desktop. I wrote it using xcopy on Windows XP but upon learning that xcopy was deprecated in favor of robocopy in Vista and newer, still wanting to maintain compatibility I decided to switch to the non-deprecated copy. This is where the problems begin. I'm trying to fix the copy routine. I thought I had everything sorted out, but it doesn't copy anything. My output is zero files copied for every iteration.     In gmail can we make is:unread the default view? That is, when we load gmail can we configure it so that is:unread is already selected, thereby showing only unread messages by default? Or can we at least configure gmail so that it has a 1 click link that only shows unread mail? The reason for this of course is that it is slow and inefficient to have to type is:unread into the gmail search every time I open it. It would be much more convenient for gmail to load this view by itself when I open gmail.

    I use EMET to secure a number of applications on my computer - web browsers, Office suite applications, PDF readers, as well as Adobe Flash. Overall it's working great, except that the Flash executables contain the version number in the file name, so every time there's an update, the file names change and I have to remember to re-add them manually to EMET. Is there a way to streamline this process? EMET does support wildcards, but only in the path itself, not the file name, so something like %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\*.exe wouldn't work. Is there any other way to add a whole folder to EMET so that any new executables in that folder are automatically secured?

    Edit: Reformulating the question: We have ordered new laptops but before they arrive, our development team is trying to decide whether to install Windows 8 or stick with Windows 7. We have already tested on isolated machines, but we have not yet been allowed to add the machines to the domain. Before we approach the networking group to discuss adding Windows 8 machines to the domain, we need more information on what changes / issues to expect in moving from Windows 7. Are there any aspects we should consider that are specific to Windows 8 clients? Thus far, I've gotten the following feedback: Windows Administrative Shares are disabled New set of Group Policy templates Changes to proxy server settings Additional items along these lines would be helpful. We're not looking for items related to Windows GUI changes, but instead primarily items related to having the machine live and be used on the domain.

    Hi I've got 8GB RAM on my laptop running Ubuntu 12.04. I added following record to /etc/fstab tmpfs /media/ramdisk tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0 What exactly it means? I have tested that I can save 4GB to ram disk at most. Why exactly 4GB? Where did the computer get this number from? And what happens when I don't use that ram disk for a while and when the directory /media/ramdisk is empty? Does it mean that my system can use whole 8GB ram? And what happens when the system runs out of ram? Will the most rarely used things be moved to swap? And should I turn of swap if I think my system will never need it? Will turning off the swap make my computer faster? And can I even remove the swap partition? And will the hibernation work correctly then?

    Other Superuser questions have addressed the issue of adding custom routes to access e.g.: multiple networks of a corporate network through one interface, while accessing the Internet through another interface. So assuming that I have a script to add specific routes when en0 is configured, and a separate script to add specific routes when en1 is configured, is there some way I can trigger those scripts to run automatically when Mac OS X/Darwin starts and configures those interfaces? Back in my Linux days, it was possible to add an option in /etc/network/interfaces along the lines of: iface eth0 inet dhcp up /usr/local/sbin/eth0-routes-up Is there something similar for Mac OS X?

  • How to switch to user perspective in Blender

    I've just started using Blender (v2.63) for the first time. I have used a lot of 3d modelling programs in the past but Blender's controls seem to be set up differently and it's taking a while to get used to it. The thing that is really bugging me at the moment is switching from user perspective to front/side/top views. I have my view in perspective mode and I want to switch to front view in orthographic mode and then switch back to the view I had before. It seems that the only way is to press numpad-0 to go to camera view, rotate the screen a bit to get rid of the annoying black outline and then switch it back to perspective mode. Then sometimes when I go back to front view it's in perspective mode which is annoying as you never want front view in perspective, only orthographic mode. My question: Is there a way I can be in my user view in perspective mode, switch to front/side/top views in orthographic mode and then switch back to where I was before in my user mode and be back in perspective mode?

    Every time I boot Windows XP Professional on my notebook, the Logon Help dialog (the one which tells you how to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete) automatically opens. How do I disable this? This did not always happen, but has been going on for quite a while now, with both SP2 and SP3. I'm using the classic logon screen, where you have to type in your username and password.

I have come across a Windows XP machine that is sending unwanted p2p traffic. I have done a 'netstat -b' command and explorer.exe is sending out the traffic. When I kill this process the traffic stops and obviously Windows Explorer dies. Here is the header of the stream from the Wireshark dump (x.x.x.x) is the machines IP. I have looked in Windows firewall and it shouldn't be letting this traffic through. I have had a look into the messages explorer.exe is sending in Spy++ and the only related ones I can see are socket connections etc... My question is what can I do to look into this deeper? What does malware achieve by sending p2p traffic? I know to fix the problem the easiest way is to reinstall Windows but I want to get to the bottom of it first, just out of interest. Edit: Had a look at Deoendency Walker and Process Explorer. Both great tools.   • Folder/File permission transfer between alike file structure

    So my company has recently upgraded to a new SAN but the person who copied all the data over must have done a drag n' drop or basic copy to move everything. Apparently Xcopy is not something he cared to use. So now I am left with the task of duplicating all the permissions over. The structure has changed a bit ( as in more files/folders have been added) but for the most part has been stayed unchanged. I'm looking for suggestions to help automate this process. Can I use XCopy to transfer ONLY permissions to one tree from another? Would i just ignore any folders/permissions that don't line up correctly? Thanks a ton in advance, Tyler

  • Since upgrading to Windows 8.1, I can't open any files on a SMB share shared by my OS X Mavericks Mac

    I have a PC with Windows 8.1 and a Mac with Mavericks. I have a folder on the Mac that is shared with the PC. When I'm on the PC and I try to open a file that is shared by the Mac, such as an ISO file (a disk image), then I get a message saying that I cannot open the file, or the file is in use (it depends on the app/filetype). I have the same problem when I open a video file. Strangely, text files and PDF files are just fine. And if I copy any of the problematic files to the local Windows disk, then I can open them just fine. The specific error messages are: AVI files opened in VLC: "Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the MRL." ISO files opened by Windows Explorer: "Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file." This only started happening after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 on the PC and Mavericks on the Mac. Mavericks upgraded its SMB version from SMB1 to SMB2, so perhaps that is related? Does anyone know what the problem might be, and how I could fix it? Thanks in advance!

So I would like to use dyndns to my home network so I could be access my server from the internet, and also I installed CCTV camera and I would like to enable watching it from internet. The problem is I cannot access it from outside the net. I already set DMZ in my modem to my router ip. My first guess is because i'm using iptables to redirect all inside network to use squid. And not allow from outside traffic to my inside network.   • How does RAM fail?

    I have an issue with a Dell Inspiron 15 (1545) laptop that refuses to open any applications (save select Microsoft programs, e.g. Security Essentials, Ctrl Panel, Windows Explorer (not Internet), regedit, Event Viewer, etc.). I've run Microsoft Memory Diagnostics Tool and it found a 'hardware problem was detected.' Does this indicate that the RAM has failed? I notice when I open programs like Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, etc., it always give me an error from WerFault.exe saying The instruction at xxxxxxx referenced memory at xxxxxxxxx. The memory could not be written. and sometimes something about illegal instructions. If it is a hardware problem, does this mean that replacing the RAM is my only option? Again, I would also like to know if RAM can fail (like hard drives) and if malware can cause RAM to fail also.

  • Tool to fix video that's out of sync with audio?

    I'm looking for (preferably free) software for Windows 7 that will allow me to fix an AVI file that has audio out of sync with the video. I tried with Windows Live Movie Maker and VirtualDub and couldn't find out how to do it (if at all possible) on both of them. If any of those can help me, instructions for that would also be nice. Background: I have a RCA-to-USB capture card, which I'm using to transfer VHS casettes and stuff from a video camera to digital format. The problem is that the audio comes out heavily distorted. So instead I connected the audio out from the VCR directly to the computer's line in. This works, but the audio is out of sync, about half a second behind the video. I could spend time trying to fix this issuee, but I think it'll be easier to simply fix the video.

I was searching for information about OS X and Open Source on google, but what I found was this site: http://www.opensource.apple.com/ Which seems to include the source code for OS X. For instance, one of the links reads: Mac OS X 10.5.7 Source So, is OS X open source? There's an Apple Public Source License, but I'm bad at understanding legalese. Update Extra/Bonus question: Besides the kernel, What about the various other pieces? The X server? Window Manager? File explorer? etc. What's open source and what's not?

    I have Windows 7 RTM, Office 2007 SP1, and a computer with English and Hebrew languages installed. In most programs (e.g. notepad), left ALT-SHIFT switches from Hebrew to English and vice versa. In word, it also usually works, but sometimes pressing left ALT-SHIFT just won't do anything. Is this a bug in Windows ? Word?
