• can't make svn store password, even though the configuration is set to allow it

  did everything the book says, i.e. removed the authentication files from .subversion/auth, and explicitly set the relevant config parameters to 'yes' even though this is a default, and yet the shell svn commands ask for password each time. The repository is on cvsdude.com, the client is linux. I also use the subclipse plugin that caches the password ok. I vaguely remember that when I started working with it, the command asked interactively if I wanted to save clear password, and I said no. Can this choice be stored somewhere and take precedence over the configuration? Thanks!

• Graphical Submit button doesn't 'post' in Firefox or IE

  I've looked all over the net to try and solve this problem, but I can't find any solutions. So far, I've checked 3 different browsers. It does not work on IE or FireFox, but it works just fine in Safari. Here's the problem. When I click the button to submit my form, it forwards me to the 'post' URL page - INSTEAD of posting the data, and going to the thank you page like the script commands. • Batch to copy and replace a txt file from one server to another

  I have two servers, server1 and server2 on same network but require username and password to be mapped. server1 has a text file as C:\Users\output.txt. I want to create and schedule a batch script on server1, which should copy and replace output.txt file from server1 to server2 at path E:\data\output.txt on daily basis. I don't want to map server2 manually every time I start my computer nor do I want to enter my username and password each time. I am using following commands in a batch, but not working; net use C: \\server2\E:\data server2password /user:server2domain\server2username /savecred /p:yes xcopy C:\Users\output.txt E:\data\

• File/module structure in Python

  So I'm just getting started with Python, and currently working my way through diveintopython.org. The code examples are nice, but the vast majority of them are little four-line snippets, and I want to see a little more of the big picture. As I understand it--and correct me if I'm wrong--each '.py' file becomes a "module", and a group of modules in a directory becomes a "package" (at least, it does if I create a __init__.py file in that directory). What is it if I don't have a __init__.py file? So what does each "module" file look like? Do I generally define only one class in the file? Does anything else go in that file besides the class definition and maybe a handful of import commands?

• tmux: create session if none exists

  I'm switching from using gnu-screen to tmux, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around changes. One thing I'd like to be able to do is start tmux and have it automatically connect to a session if one exists, and otherwise create a new session. tmux attach attaches to an automatically existing session - but errors out if no session exists tmux new creates a new session - but it does so every time, so I can't leave it in my .tmux.conf tmux has-session tests whether a session exists - but I don't know how to stitch it together with the other commands Can anyone give me some configure file advice?

• Controlling rsync with Python?

  I've been wanting to write a python script that would run several instances of rsync in sequence for backing up data to a different computer. At the moment I just have this text file with the commands I use and I've just been copy-pasting them into the terminal, and it seems kinda silly. I want to be able to use python to do this for me. I know very vaguely how to use subprocess.popen, but I have no clue how to get python to interact with rsync directly, like for entering my password for me. Can python do that? Something like: if theProccess.proccessResponse == "Password:" : theProccess.respond(string) Or is the best that I can do is just have it, or even a bash script, just run the rsyncs in sequence and have to type my password in over and over again? In this Thread(Mehtod) I´m using the Dispatcher to Refresh my Image in the ViewBox after the calculations are ready. When I´m dont put the calculation in a seperate Thread then I can refresh or build my Image. PS: Sry for my bad english

  In software companies I have seen it's really hard to work on very large products where everything depends on everything else. For instance Microsoft works on C#, F#, .NET, WPF, Visual Studio where these things are interconnected. I don't know how many people are involved, but if it's in 100s, how do they keep in sync with everything, so they design and implement features without conflicting with other dependencies and future plans of other products? I am wondering that if MS is able to do this, they must have a very good system. Any guidelines or secrets for MS or non-MS very large software product delivering?

• How to install X library for use with VC++?

  Hi, i have uptill now worked on linux where its very easy to install opensource libraries using simple configure;make;make install commands.. now i need to use MSVC++ to run some opengl code that includes the standard opengl headers.. but defaultly they arent present.. i downloaded the tar file from freeglut site,it has VisualStudio2008 folder but i have no idea how to use it to install the libs and headers in the standard paths?? is there not a way where i can use some standard procedure similar to linux process?? do i have to it manually??   I'm trying to figure out what this sort of thing is called, and eventually how I can create one in a web browser. It looks like this (screenshot of the first app that came to mind): The specific component/pattern I'm looking for is the two list boxes ("Included Gear" and "Excluded Gear") that represent inclusion/exclusion of items from a set. I'm not really looking for the WPF name (if there is one) but it might be helpful. I am looking for the name of this thingy, if there is one, and if you really want to make my day, you can point me toward a jQuery or YUI way of making one of these dealies in a browser. In case you were wondering, the screenshot is a World of Warcraft gear optimization program. Go figure why it was the first program that came to mind when I was trying to think of an example.

  Hi There, What I am trying to achieve is a report on daily financial transactions. With my SQL query I would like to count the total number of cash transactions, the total cash value and the same for checks. I only want to do this for a specified date. Here is a snippet of the query that I am having trouble with. These sum and count commands are processing all the data in the table and not for the selected date.   I am aware of MSINFO32, but I'm wondering if there is a MS DOS command similar to ipconfig in order to get system specifications? I would like for the system specifications to be displayed in the MS DOS prompt. I would like to see at least: CPU RAM BUS speed Thanks for any insights. • Save objects to a database?

  So far in my .Net coding adventures I've only had a need to save information to files. So I've used XmlSerializer and DataContractSerializer to serialize attributed classes to XML files. My next project, however, requires that I save and retrieve information from a SQL server database. I'm wondering what my options are for doing this. The current version of the app, which was not created by me, uses a lot of hard coded SQL commands. But now I'm trying to avoid doing anything where I have to read or write individual fields to or from the database or objects. I especially want to avoid a lot of hard coded SQL in my code. I like how the serializer classes just figure out how to read and write XML files based on the attributes and or public properties of the class. Is there something similar for a database rather then XML?

• Recordset Update errors when updating sql_variant field

  I'm using C++ and ADO to add data to a SQL Server 2005 database. When calling the Recordset Update method for a sql_variant column I'm getting the error DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED and the error message Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. If the value I'm adding is NULL all works fine and all values going to the fields that are not sql_variant types work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks [Edit] I have some more information. The value we are storing is the empty string - ADO appears to want to store this in the sql_variant as a nchar(0), which of course is not a valid SQL data type. Is there a way to get an empty string in a sql_variant using the ADO batch commands?

• Mysterious different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data

  During investigation of some problem I found that the reason was unexpected different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data. Namely, in the code below two commands both return the same two items File1.txt and File2.txt. But conversion to string[] gives different results, see the comments. Any ideas why is it? This might be a bug. If anybody also thinks so, I’ll submit it. • Sleeping a thread blocking stdin

I need to make the latter function sleep at regular intervals but that seems to be blocking the stdin. Any advice on how to resolve this would be appreciated. • Get the URL(s) from Firefox using C# .NET 3.5

  I am writing a .NET 3.5 WPF application in C#. This application needs to be able to get the URL(s) out of the browser window when it is in the foreground. I already have the code working that handles a global Windows hotkey and then checks to see if the foreground IntPtr is from a browser. If so, I am able to obtain the System.Diagnostics.Process objects that maps to the browser. At this point, I would like to obtain the URL(s) from the browser. Thank you, G

• design-pattern libraries ready-to-use?

  symfony has released some of their components free to use outside the framework. i have used the event dispatcher and dependency injection...they are awesome! i wonder if there are other components/libraries (from other frameworks etc) that in the same way help you manage various design patterns? eg. decorator, facade, singleton, chain of commands etc. i think symfony is on the right path, abstracting away the design patterns. are there any other components out there doing the same? thanks

• change svn message editor

  So my co-worker felt it necessary to go onto my development box and do some code changes, then submit his work to subversion. I never set the commit message editor, and all of a sudden, one day I forgot to add the -m handle and apparently he set the default editor to emacs. Being that I don't know the first thing about emacs and prefer vim myself, how do I go about changing the default editor for svn commands to vim after it's already been set. I deleted the .subversion directory under the home directory, and it still prompts me.
