• Upgrading to IIS7 stopped Firefox from receiving cookies?

  Our website has been using IIS6 for a long time. We test on IE8, Firefox, and Chrome. All browsers worked fine. We recently did an upgrade to IIS7, and Chrome and IE8 continue to work normally, but Firefox appears to be unable to get the ASP session cookie. As a result, when our code checks the Session[] object, we see nothing, we think the user has logged out, and the site resets your session. Does anyone know why upgrading to IIS7 would cause this behavior in Firefox? We've: 1) Reverted our application pool back to classic mode (no change); 2) Added a dummy value in the Global.asax object (no change); and 3) changed the web.config file from "authentication cookieless=autodetect" to "cookieless=usercookie" and back (no change).

• Batch script to rename portionof a filename

  I've been trying to make a script that will a file name and change only one word in it. An example would be: projectname.vcproj.domainname.username.user to projectname.vcproj.otherdomainname.username.user I've tried using the if loop to list the directory and set the delimiter to a period but it doesn't seem to be able to identify and change it. I'm using examples of renaming .txt files but it doesn't seem to work, any suggestions?

  I'm using ants propertyregex method to change a property and it works fine up to a point. I'm lossing return characters. Here's what I'm trying to change: cluster.path=\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/harness:\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/platform:\ ${nbplatform.active.dir}/nb This is in a .properties file. So I'm trying to change it like this: <propertyregex property="cluster.path" input="${cluster.path}" regexp="nbplatform.active.dir" replace="xplatform.base" global="true" override="true"/> The stuff is replaced but I get: cluster.path= ${xplatform.base}/harness\: ${xplatform.base}/platform\: ${xplatform.base}/nb This brakes logic down the line not controlled by me (Netbeans) that uses the ':' as delimiter. Any idea?

  I have a similar question than django cross-site reverse. But i think I can't apply the same solution. I'm creating an app that lets the users create their own site. After completing the signup form the user should be redirected to his site's new post form. Something along this lines: new_post_url = 'http://%s.domain:9292/manage/new_post %site.domain' logged_user = authenticate(username=user.username, password=user.password) if logged_user is not None: login(request, logged_user) return redirect(new_product_url) Now, I know that "new_post_url" is awful and makes babies cry so I need to reverse it in some way. I thought in using django.core.urlresolvers.reverse to solve this but that only returns urls on my domain, and not in the user's newly created site, so it doesn't works for me. So, do you know a better/smarter way to solve this?

• Difficulties signing in to Twitter from iPhone

  Hi there, I'm using MGTwitterEngine to add Twitter functionality to my app. It's very easy to simply prompt the user for a username and password and then start posting. Strangely, however, I've noticed other apps (eg Foursquare and Brightkite) require you to visit their website to associate your Twitter account with your foursquare/brightkite/whatever account. Why do they do it this way? Is there a reason why my app shouldn't prompt the user for a Twitter username and password, even though it would be so easy? Thanks a bunch! Tristan

• What does sub error code 568 mean for Ldap Error 49 with Active Directory

  I am writing some Java code that authenticates to Active Directory using SASL GSSAPI. Mostly this code is working fine but for one user I am getting the response: javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - 8 0090304: LdapErr: DSID-0C0904D1, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 568, v1772 ] I know that 49 means this is an authentication failure, and that the relevant sub code is 568, but I am only aware of the following meanings for that data: 525 - user not found 52e - invalid credentials 530 - not permitted to logon at this time 532 - password expired 533 - account disabled 701 - account expired 773 - user must reset password So far I am unable to find an authorative source of these error codes from Microsoft (this list is pieced together from forum posts) and I can't find anything for that 568 error. Does anyone know what it means?

• HP to Cisco spanning tree root flapping

  Per a recent question I recently configured both my HP (2x 2900) and Cisco (1x 3750) hardware to use MSTP for interoperability. I thought this was functional until I applied the change to the third device (HP switch 1 below) at which time the spanning tree root started flapping causing performance issues (5% packet loss) between my two HP switches. I'm not sure why. HP Switch 1 A4 connected to Cisco 1/0/1. HP Switch 2 B2 connected to Cisco 2/0/1. HP Switch 1 A2 connected to HP Switch 2 A1. I'd prefer the Cisco stack to act as the root. EDIT: There is one specific line - 'spanning-tree 1 path-cost 500000' in the HP switch 2 that I didn't add and was preexisting. I'm not sure if it could have the kind of impact that I'm describing. I'm more a security and monitoring guy then networking. EDIT 2: I'm starting to believe the problem lies in the fact that the value for my MST 0 instance on the Cisco is still at the default 32768. I worked up a diagram: This is based on every show command I could find for STP. I'll make this change after hours and see if it helps.   Hi, I've been looking for some time now.. Is is possible to pass easing function as variable in AS3? eg. TweenLite.to(mcDelimiter, resizeTween, { x:(stageWidthHalf-(initStageWidthHalf-mcDelimiteri_X)), ease:Elastic.easeOut } ); TweenLite.to(mcBody, resizeTween, { x:(stageWidthHalf-(initStageWidthHalf-mcBody_X)), ease:Elastic.easeOut } ); ... now if I at some point want to change "Elastic.easeOut" to something else I would have to change it at multiple parts of the code.. Can it be done so I just pass it as a variable and then if I want to change it, do it only on one place? You see I want to ssh into another computer and use their environment not drag my environment using pexpect. Can anyone suggest how to get this working or an alternative way. Thanks

• Can django's auth_user.username be varchar(75)?

  Django's auth_user.username field is 30 characters. That means you can't have auth_user.username store an email address. If you want to have users authenticate based on their email address it would seem you have to do some wonky stuff like writing your own authentication backend which authenticates based on (email, password) instead of (username, password) and furthermore, figuring out what you're going to put in the username field since it is required and it is a primary key. Do you put a hash in there, do you try to put the id in there... bleh! Why should you have to write all this code and consider edge cases simply because username is too small for your (farily common) purposes? Is there anything wrong with running alter table on auth_user to make username be varchar(75) so it can fit an email? What does that break if anything?

• How to configure Spring JavaMailSenderImpl for Gmail

  I am trying to find the correct properties to use to connect to the Gmail SMTP sever using the JavaMailSenderImpl class. Let me first say that I have tried the approach found here. This worked fine. But when I tried the configuration below that post with the exact same authentication information I received a javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException.   I am trying to populate a drop down and found this page, which provides part of the solution: http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/programmatically-fill-populate-drop-down-list-box-infopath-2007.htm I got this to work, but if players.xml was changed, the drop down list didn't reflect it. I had to rename the file and add the new file as my secondary data source to see the change. For my purposes, the xml file that is used to populate the drop down box would need to be created anew. Each time the form is loaded, I programatically create a new xml file, but the drop down doesn't pick up the new file, even though I have named it as the secondary data source. It seems that once you set a file to be your secondary data source, it takes a snapshot of that file at the time the source was added as a secondary data source and if you change the file, you must rename and add it as your secondary source. How do I populate a drop down box from an XML file such that if the XML file changes, the contents of the drop down change accordingly?

I find if a user is in /etc/sudoers file, then if the user run command with sudo, the user will run this command with root privilege (without knowing root password, the user runs sudo only need to input the user's own password in order to run a command with sudo). Is that correct understanding? 2. If yes, then is it a security hole? Since users other than root could run with root privilege? thanks in advance, George

  In this question I asked how to POST to a php file form a vb.net app: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2615335/post-to-webpage-in-vb-net-win-forms-desktop-not-asp-net So now I've logged in the user user by posting their username and password to the php file, the php file then does security/checks they exist/etc and if both username and password are correct is stores the user ID in a session variable. Now if the vb.net app tries to download data off a page which needs the user to logged in, it checks this by doing: if (!isset($_SESSION['uid'])) { header("Location: index.php"); } However after having logged correctly in the app the session variable is not set. How does session work with a vb.net app like this? When the user logs in successfully should I download the user id and keep it in the vb.net app and then post it to each page that requires authentication?

• VB.NET localization

  In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

• How can I hot deploy using the glassfish adapter in Eclipse

  Has anyone gotten the glassfish v3 adapter to work with Eclipse without restarting every time there's a code change? I tried to set this up but the adapter "republishes" every time I change any file, which is very annoying. It takes up to 3 minutes and locks up my machine for a second. I must remember to constantly stop the adapter before making any changes. I'd settle for just disabling this "feature", but even if I uncheck "publish change immediately" this behavior still happens. I'm using the latest version of the glassfish adapter and tried with eclipse 3.5 and the 3.6 milestone builds.... What setup is everyone using if you have glassfish v3 as your server? Is there any way to actually get the hot deploy feature to work correctly?

• Do passwords used for .htaccess need to be encrypted?

  I am using .htaccess files to control access to various Apache2 directories. I have a main "password" file that contains usernames and passwords. All the instructions I have found regarding .htaccess talk about how the passwords added are encrypted. The usernames and passwords are created using the following command line syntax ... htpasswd -nb username password What I am wondering is ... do the passwords always need to be encrypted? Could I store usernames and passwords in a plain-text form someonewhere on the system (above the web root)? This would allow me to easily edit user names and passwords via FTP without requiring access to the Shelll (which I do not always have). Thank you.

• WCF(HTTPS,UserName) calling by SilverLight

  Hello colleagues. I've created wcf service with transport security over HTTPS. Also I use UserName authentication as described at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949025.aspx, so I can use my Membership,RoleProvider. When I work with this service with ASP.NET all is OK var client = new RegistratorClient(); client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["registratorLogin"]; client.ClientCredentials.UserName.Password = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["registratorPassword"]; But at my SilverLight appliation I can't do the same. When I try setup credntials and call wcf I get standard browser window with username and password. When I insert it SL application works well, but this message is so annoyed. I can't use clientCredentialType="Basic" at my SL config. What should I do for silence calling my WCF. Big thanks

  Hi, I am getting this error in my terminal when i execute the command above, Deans-MacBook:depot dean$ rake db:create RAILS_ENV='development' (in /Users/dean/src/RailsBook/depot) Couldn't create database for {"username"=>"root", "adapter"=>"mysql", "database"=>"depot_development", "host"=>"localhost", "password"=>nil}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) In database config file i have the following: development: adapter: mysql database: depot_development username: root password: host: localhost I have the mysql gem installed and now i am unsure on what to do next. I am running snow leopard on a Macbook. Does anyone know why this error is happening? Thanks in Advance Dean

• Rogue black-box java application not responding to standard input redirect

  I have an external java application (blackbox), which requires authentication. I need to run this application in a batch setting, but it seems to be reading from standard input in some nonstandard way. That is, if I set the calling of the program to redirect STDIN to a file (... <password.txt) or pipe data to it (echo mypasword | ...), it does not recognize the input. As I run it, also, it seems to intercept Cntrl+c and Cntrl+d and Cntrl+z as legitimate password characters, so it must be doing something odd and not just reading from standard in. Any idea what this application could be doing to read in input? I need to be able to send it information programmatically, and I'm stumped for the moment.
