• Do not compile t4 file

  Suddenly, after doing a TFS 2010 get, Visual Studio 2010 is attempting to compile my .tt file as if it was c#. Moreover, anytime I set it to "Build Action=None", Build Action gets mysteriously reset to Compile. This is breaking our builds on the desktop. I can get builds to work on the desktop by closing then reopening VS. Our builds on TFS are totally broken because of this. What to do? The template generates a (totally ok) c# file, so I need the project to build. I tried changing the file extension from .tt to .donotbuilddammit but that had no effect.

  Hi, I want to upload a file in 2 steps. First I want to upload it and show the errors and on the second step I want actually to save the file data in the database. So I made a simple form and my problem is how to pass the same file to the form on the second step? I mean how to insert request.FILES data in the same form again. Or maybe there is a better way?   I have a Pylons controller action that needs to return a file to the client. (The file is outside the web root, so I can't just link directly to it.) The simplest way is, of course, this: with open(filepath, 'rb') as f: response.write(f.read()) That works, but it's obviously inefficient for large files. What's the best way to do this? I haven't been able to find any convenient methods in Pylons to stream the contents of the file. Do I really have to write the code to read a chunk at a time myself from scratch?

• Debugging a release version of a DLL (with PDB file)

  If I have a DLL (that was built in release-mode) and the corresponding PDB file, is it possible to debug (step-into) classes/methods contained in that DLL? If so, what are the required steps/configuration (e.g. where to put the PDB file)? Edit: If have the PDB file in the same place as the DLL (in the bin/debug directory of a simple console test application). I can see that the symbols for the DLL are loaded (in the Output window and also in the Modules window), but still I cannot step into the methods of that DLL. Could this be the result of compiler optimizations (as described by Michael in his answer)?

  My ASP.NET website currently downloads a file from a remote server to a local drive, although when users access the site they have to wait for the server to finish downloading the file until they can then download the file from my ASP.NET website. Is it possible to almost stream the download from the remote website - through my ASP.NET website directly to the user (a bit like a proxy) ?   I'm working on a CMS system which uses a resource file to get information and errormessages from. The client side validation is working without problems, only it's not getting the errormessage from the resource file. While debugging i figured out xval seems to get the errormessages from a javascript file where the messages are set hard-coded. Is there some way to override this? What I'm actually trying to do is to compress and decompress some files in my console program using LZMA(7zip) SDK but unfortunately it's very difficult to use for a newbie. There is a command line version of LZMA called 7za.exe and I am wondering if I can somehow embed it into my program and use it like a function. It can be easily used with system() function (which seems to be a very dangerous thing to use) but then if I send my program to someone who doesn't have 7za.exe in the right folder it won't work. I came across CreateProcess() function in windows.h header files but it seems to achieve what system() does in a more proper and advanced way. I don't know if it can actually link the exe file like an object file during compilation

  The following code #include <stdio.h> template <typename T, T v> class Tem { T t; Tem() { t = v; } }; typedef Tem<FILE*,NULL> TemFile; when compiled in a .mm file (Objective C++) by Xcode on MacOS X, throws the following error: error: could not convert template argument '0' to 'FILE*'. What's going on, please? The code in question compiled fine under MSVC. Since when is the 0 constant not a valid pointer to anything? Is this an artifact of Objective C++ (as opposed to vanilla C++)?

  Hi, I am working on a REST based interface where people get a json file. The client needs to access the file from another Domain. I use jsonp which works so far. My problem is the rendering in Grails. At the moment I use the 'as JSON' to marshalling the object: render "${params.jsoncallback}(${user as JSON})" The Json file getting to the client inclused all attributes, incluing the id and class, which I do not want to have in there. In case it is not jsonp, I do it this way, which works great: render(contentType:'text/json'){ userName user.userName userImage user.userImage : : } So how do I get the id and class attributes out of the json when rendering "user as JSON"?   Hello: I am using ConfigParser to read the runtime configuration of a script. I would like to have the flexibility of not providing a section name (there are scripts which are simple enough; they don't need a 'section'). ConfigParser will throw the NoSectionError exception, and will not accept the file. How can I make ConfigParser simply retrieve the (key, value) tuples of a config file without section names? For instance: key1=val1 key2:val2 I would rather not write to the config file.

  Am adding an Entity Data Model to an ASP.NET website. When i Add New Item to the website and select ADO.NET Entity Data Model, am asked for the model name and language. I go a head and select Visual Basic as the language, the model is added and the site can compile with out any issues. however, the model it adds a ModelName.Designer.cs source file, instead of a ModelName.Designer.vb source file. am thinking this is strange as its happening with only one of my website. my other sites have .vb designer source file for their Entity Data Models. The site still compiles with out any errors but am afraid some thing is not right. any one experienced this?, is this normal behavior?

  Hello, I'm trying to save blob data from a SQLite database (Safari cache: Cache.db) to a file, but for some reason sqlite won't read the whole blob. I eventually would like to do this in ruby, but for now something that works directly in sqlite command prompt is fine. Also, I've read all of the entries that talk about this here on stackoverflow, but most of them only discuss the performance of saving images in blobs and the one entry that does show to save blobs to file is in C# which does not help me.   Hello, I'm trying to load a existing pdf file, and fill this with database information. Loading the file and everything is working, except for writing data to the loaded page. It doesn't write text to the loaded page. If I add a new page en use a foreach to apply drawing to all pages, all added pages are written, except for the loaded one. • understanding silverlight resource file format

  I'm trying to understand the format of silverlight resource files. There are 4 bytes of the data comes after PAD. I'd like to know what these values are, and how they are generated. here is the hex dump of a .g.resources file. Here is what I know: there is 0xbeefcace at the beginning, then there is dependancies, then padding. after that is the great unknown (but I really like to know). After 4 null bytes, are the file name and size of the resource. and After that is content of the said file. I'm not that familiar with .Net and silverlight resource management. would someone please tell me what the mystical 4 bytes are, or point me the url to the specification doc or something. Any help would be appreciated!

  Our app servers (weblogic) all use log4j to log to the same file on a network share. On top of this we have all web apps in a managed server logging errors to a common error.log. I can't imagine this is a good idea but wanted to hear from some pros. I know that each web app has its own classloader, so any thread synchronization only occurs within the app. So what happens when multiple processes start converging on a single log file? Can we expect interspersed log statements? Performance problems? What about multiple web apps logging to a common log file? The environment is Solaris.

  I'm not sure I've setup everything I've needed to in my C# class to properly, but it does work in COM. I've been looking for an example of a C# class that was successfully used in a C/C++ project, but haven't come across anything. I've tried using the OLE/COM Object View app to open the .tlb file and save as .h, but it gives some errors: MIDL1009: unknown argument ignored; MIDL1001: cannot open input file Studio "Studio" isn't the name of the file, it's Syslog, so that raises a red flag to me. Any ideas?

• Split or save a subset of a ESRI Shape SHP file to a new file?

  I'm working with shape files in GeoDjango. Right now I'm trying to write a test for code that loads in a shape file and saves it to a database. The shape file currently has a feature count of 64,118. I'd like to reduce this to a handful so the test can quickly load it and confirm everything is right. Since shape files aren't in a text format, is there a free application or library I can use to pluck out a handful of features and save them to a new file? I should mention I don't have a license nor access to any of the ESRI product line.
