• Reinstall Acer OEM Windows 8, Windows 8 Recovery for Acer Aspire V5 122p

  My Acer Aspire V5-122P-61456G50NSS, model - MS2377, has crashed all together. It came preloaded with Windows 8 and I upgraded to windows 8.1 3-4 days before crash. Unfortunately I did not make any recovery media before the crash. While accessing the eRecovery on Acer store with my PC's serial no. it says nor RCD available for this. I tried recovery by loading recovery manager (Left Alt + F10) Various other advanced startup options (like holding shift key while turning on or pressing F8 key) returns nothing but no luck. However I am able to enter BIOS. After doing research on above condition on various PC forums, now my questions: I read that a 'Windows Recovery Drive' can be made on any PC running Windows 8 and could be used to repair another PC. Does anybody in SuperUser community have that (or a link to download the same from somewhere? as I'm unable to find anybody running windows 8 among my friends). I downloaded a window 8 Pro ISO and made a bootable USB. I was able to go to 'Repair Your Computer' option and after going to 'Reset your PC' option found that my recovery partition has gone/missing. I tried all options available but no luck. Then I tried to install with that Windows 8 Pro ISO but got message: "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key". before this message I did not got any form to fill product key! Does this mean that the installer was picking up the key from BIOS (OEM Key)? and may be the installation did not succeeded because OEM Windows version was Window 8 and I was trying to install Windows 8 Pro. If that is the case then, could somebody please send me link to download an Windows 8 ISO? I am helpless and couldn't find anywhere on internet (without having to pay for a new key, but I should not pay as the installer will use OEM key).

• Windows telling me, the local security authority is internally inconsistent upon mounting a network drive

  Since ages I've mounted a network share (via samba to a Linux machine) in Windows 7 to access it via drive letter. This worked flawlessly so far. Until now. Suddenly I couldn't access the drive anymore. Windows was telling me the network name (I didn't remember the exact term) was already in use. So I disconnected and tried to connect again: net use Y: \\10.10.10.208\work After a long time I get a message saying "The Local Security Authority (LSA) database contains an internal inconsistency" A restart didn't help. The mapped share is accessible (works on other machines in the same network), so obviously something strange is going on on my machine. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this inconsistency? Update: All machines that have saved the login information refuse with this error. So it must be something with the authorization. When I use net use Y: \\10.10.10.208\work /user:raphael it prompts me for the password and then returns that error message.

• Installed SQL Server 2008 and now TFS is broken.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. • Networking stopped working on Ubuntu

  I installed Ubuntu 10.04 through the Wubi installer (Funny, I installed it today and thought I would have gotten 10.10). I had a network connection and everything was working fine. I rebooted my coumputer a couple of times and then suddenly, I could not connect to the network and when I click the wireless/networking icon it says "Networking Disabled". I reinstalled Ubuntu and the problem went away. After a few reboots the problem returned. I have tried restarting to see if it would come back as well as a few other things listed below. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Tried to restart networking via /etc/init.d/networking: amato@ubuntu:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart * Reconfiguring network interfaces... • MS NPS denying access, can't validate server certificate

  At my office we use a Cisco WLC2504 wireless controller and starting about a week ago we started having problems with users connecting to one of our secure wireless network. We are running AD on Windows Server 2008 R2 and use network policy server to control access to our wireless network. When I look at the logs in event viewer after a failed connection attempt I see an access reject message: Reason Code: 262 Reason: The supplied message is incomplete. The signature was not verified. Looking this up on Google I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838502 I tried disabling server certificate validation on my computer and as soon as I did that I was able to connect to the network, so it seems that there is some sort of certificate validation issue. I'm not sure which certificate is unable to be validated or how to fix it. This used to work and stopped suddenly by itself so I am thinking a certificate may have expired. When I go to NPS Policies Network Policies My policy Constraints Auth methods Microsoft PEAP and view the properties, the certificae specified here expires in 2016, so doesn't seem as though this could be the problem. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

  I'm trying to set a Domain User account as ApplicationPool Identity in IIS 8 (Windows 2012). When trying this using the IIS Management Console I always get an error: Value does not fall within the expected range. When trying to set the identity using appcmd.exe it fails on both the command setting the username and password or the command only setting the password. Setting the username is no problem. • How to install OS X *.TTC font on Windows? Error: "*.TTC does not appear to be a valid font"

  I own both a Mac running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and a PC running Windows 7. On my Mac is a font called "AmericanTypewriter.ttc". I'd like to use that font on my PC, for a specific creative project. I was able to copy the actual font file over to the PC, but when I try to install it into the Windows Fonts folder I get the following error message: "Cannot install (FONTNAME).ttc - The file '(FONTNAME).ttc' does not appear to be a valid font." Can *.TTC format font files be installed on Windows? If so, how? Thanks! UPDATE: I downloaded the source code for a simple ttc2ttf utility (ttc2ttf_AA.tar.gz) found at this Japanese page and compiled it under cygwin via g++. The resulting executable extracted a single file, "AmericanTypewriter.ttf", from the TTC / True Type Collection. (Why have a collection with only one file!?) However, I still get an error message similar to the one above when I try to install the resulting AmericanTypewriter.ttf onto Windows. I'm stumped again. p.s. I no longer need this font on Windows, but now I'm determined to figure out why & how-to :-)

  I am trying to be able to use a program called Kodak Smart Touch, but just today I have experienced an error preventing it from opening. The scanner is a business class scanner, an i2900. It comes with a small program called Kodak Smart Touch. This program allows you to select and customize a number of presets on the front panel and automatically create/save scanned files, etc. I was running a backup with Aomei Backupper at the time, and I wanted to scan a file. I tried to scan as normal, but right at the end the program quit with an error. Now, whenever I try to start Smart Touch, even not running the backup and with Aomei uninstalled, the following error pops up: Title of message: KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.121102) has stopped working. Body: See (path name) for more information. When I go to the path in the error message, there are two files, ERRORLOG.txt and KSSCFG.dmp. The error log says, "KSSCFG (version 1.7.15.322.121102) case an Access Violation(0xc0000005). Error occur at 2014/06/11 21:37:54 Operation System: Windows 7 64bits (6.1.7601) processor(s) type AMD x86 or x64" The dump file can be downloaded here: http://l.bitcasa.com/yzbtv1VV Opening it with a hex editor yields very little of use, but I do have an internal commandline utility that may help: http://l.bitcasa.com/cTXvAsst I've already uninstalled and reinstalled all the kodak software several times to no avail.   Recently, senders from Hotmail have begun to get the following NDR when trying to e-mail our domain. EDIT : Full NDR Message Action: failed Status: 5.5.0 Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550-Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client, or login to the 550-IMAP/POP3 server before sending your message. 550-snt0-omc3-s36.snt0.hotmail.com [65.55.90.175]:49271 is not permitted to 550 relay through this server without authentication This is seemingly out of the blue and I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Pertinent Information We have multiple domains hooked up to our Exchange server. We changed our company name in January of this year, and the old primary domain (olddomain.com) will accept e-mails from Hotmail accounts, however e-mails sent to the new primary domain (newdomain.com) bounce back with the NDR listed above. The bounces only appear to be happening when the Hotmail sender is sending a new e-mail, and not if they are responding to an e-mail sent from our end. We have made no changes to the configuration of our server recently. This e-mail first appeared last Friday. As far as I can tell, the mail doesn't even seem to get to our server We performed an Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration last year.   I am having a highly annoying problem on Windows 7 with Microsoft Outlook 2007. Whenever I click on any hyperlinks I am present with the message This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator and let's not forget the most ear-piecing "DING" to accompany this wonderful informative message. Now I have searched the web high and low for a solution here and most sources suggest the same solution of resetting your IE as your default browser. Tried .. failed A lot of sources suggest this has something to do with installing and uninstalling chrome. I have never installed Chrome but am actually consdering this to see if it by some chance fixes my computer. A lot of sources also point to a microsoft kb article 325478 which is focused around Windows XP and totally unrelated to my problem. I see there are some other queries on SuperUser with no resolution. Please can someone help solve this highly annoying issue. I am running Window 7 professional x64 Microsoft Office 2007 Microsoft Security Essentials Running in a windows work group with default policy settings HELP!

• HYPER-V R2 Can not mount ISO from network location (UNC Path)

  So, as the name suggest I'm trying to mount a ISO from a network share using the UNC path to a HYPER-V R2 Cluster. This is a pure Demo / test case setup with: 2x HYPER-V R2 1X NAS/iSCSI CSV Cluster Management is happening through the MMC with RSAT tools. So what i've done so far is: Set up the cluster and configure Quorum, add CSV Shares and disks, set up 1 Virtual Machine on the Hyper-1 node. What i'm trying to do is, you go to settings --- DVD Drive --- use network location ---- Pick ISO file and press "apply". Error I'm getting is either "User account does not have rights to mount iso". I changed that or stopped getting that message when I went to the HYPER-V Node settings and tabbed on: "Use Default Credentials Automatically". Now I stopped getting the "user does not have right..." message but I get the following: Error applying DVD Drive Changes Failed to remove device microsoft synthetic DVD Drive:" the specified network resource or device is no longer available" I've google'd the problem but am unable to find a solution. Anyone here able to help me out ? Much abbliged !

  I'm trying to install an ADFS proxy. In our intranet we have a ADFS 2.1 server running on Windows 2012 which is working fine. Now we're trying to deploy a proxy to this one for internet access, using Windows 2012 R2's Web Application Proxy. I'm getting the following error on the proxy server, event ID 393: Message : An error occurred while attempting to establish a trust relationship with the Federation Server. An error occurred when attempting to establish a trust relationship with the federation service. Error: Forbidden Context : DeploymentTask Status : Error I'm not getting any errors on the ADFS server. I've tried with different credentials. The ADFS service account, a domain administrator who is a member of the local administrators group on the ADFs server, and the local administrator account on the ADFS server. Same error message. Both port 80 and 443 is accessible from the proxy server to the internal ADFS server, and I can access the ADFS metadata endpoint from the proxy server. I'm using the same trusted SSL certificate (wildcard) on both machines. Do you have any ideas that can help me troubleshoot this problem?

  I have a weird issue and I hope someone can steer me in the right direction for resolving this please. When I execute the following query against a linked server, I get the following error. I can connect to the server in SSMS as a separate server, and execute a similar query against its Deposits table. The nn.nn is my own replacement to avoid broadcasting our server addresses. The query: select td.Batch , td.DateTimeDeposited from Deposits cd left join [172.nn.nn.32\sqlexpress].Terminal.dbo.Deposits td on cd.DateTimeDeposited = td.DateTimeDeposited The error: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "172.nn.nn.11\sqlexpress" returned message "Login timeout expired". When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". Msg 65535, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. Notice how the error is about server 172.nn.nn.11 and not 172.nn.nn.32. SOLVED (STUPID ME): Somebody had added an extra bit to my query that was scrolled off-screen and was querying the 17.nn.nn.11 server.

• Handshake violation when trying to access one website

  I have a TZ 190 Wireless Enhanced with SonicOS Enhanced 4.2.1.0-20e. Yesterday, people could access without any problems a bank website wich uses HTTPS. Today, it is imposible to access only that website, every other ones works without problems. When checking the log message filtering to my IP only, this is what appears and I suspect is the cause of this problem, because all other websites are working: Priority: Notice Category: Network Access Message: TCP handshake violation detected; TCP connection dropped Source: X.Y.Z.3, 51997, LAN (admin) Destination: 200.14.232.18, 443, WAN Notes: Handshake Timeout Where X.Y.Z.3 is my local IP. I've tried to change TCP Settings under Firewall option, and activated this options with no success: Enforce strict TCP compliance with RFC 793 and RFC 1122 and Enable TCP checksum enforcement I've also tried to find the MTU and at first I got: Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set But when I lower the value of ping -f -l to 1468 I got: Request timeout. Also I deactivate CFS in lan and wan zones. Nothing works. Can you please help me? Any Ideas?

• SBS 2008 BPA Warnings After Migration From SBS 2003

  We just finished a we-know-just-enough-to-be-dangerous migration from SBS 2003 to SBS 2008, and things seem to have gone relatively smoothly. After running the SBS 2008 Best Practices Analyzer on the destination server, we've got three warning messages, and I can't tell if they're important or not. First, the easy one: SMTP Port (TCP 25 Status): The Edgetransport.exe process should listen on SMTP port 25, but that port is owned by the process. I don't think that this one is a big deal--e-mail is flowing through the SMTP connector. Since there are two spaces between "the" and "process," I'm assuming that for some reason BPA just couldn't figure out the owning process name and this is just some sloppy programming when displaying the message. (Indeed, on subsequent runs of the BPA this message goes away, and other times it comes back.) Now, two more scary sounding ones: No DNS name server records: There are no DNS name server (NS) resource records in the _msdcs sub-domain in the forward lookup zone for Windows SBS 2008. and, similarly, No DNS name server records: There are no DNS name server (NS) resource records in the _msdcs zone for Windows SBS 2008. Now for these two, everything appears to be functioning correctly--but I'm assuming this is a weird state as a result of the SBS 2003 to 2008 migration. Can anyone provide any pointers on how to fix it, or whether or not it can be safely ignored? Thanks!

  I am trying to install a SSL certificate on IIS 7. I have download a free trial certificate. After that, this is the steps what I do: Click the Start menu and select Administrative Tools. Start Internet Services Manager and click the Server Name. In the center section, double click on the Server Certificates button in the Security section. From the Actions menu click Complete Certificate Request. Enter the location for the certificate file. Enter a Friendly name. Click OK. Under Sites select the site to be secured with the SSL certificate. From the Actions menu, click Bindings.This will open the Site Bindings window. In the Site Bindings window, click Add. This opens the Add Site Binding window. Select https from the Type menu. Set the port to 443. Select the SSL Certificate you just installed from the SSL Certificate menu. Click OK. This is the step where I get the message: One or more intermediate certificates in the certificate chain are missing. To resolve this issue, make sure that all of intermediate certificates are installed. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954755 After this, when I access the web site on its first page, I get this message: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. What am I doing wrong?

The only differences are that I'm running PIX 6.3(5) and Juniper Netscreen 6.1.0r2.0 (Firewall+VPN). On the Netscreen, I've created a Phase 2 Proposal called ToCorpOffice using DH Group#2, 3DES-CBC, and SHA-1, and when configuring the AutoKey IKE, I chose ToCorpOffice and removed all other transforms. • Firebird 2.1: gfix -online returns "database shutdown"

  Hey all. Googling this one hasn't made a bit of difference, unfortunately, as most results specify the syntax for onlining a database after using gfix -shut -force 30 (or any other number of seconds) as gfix -online dbname, and I have run gfix -online dbname with and without login credentials for the DB in question. The message that I get is: database dbname shutdown Which is fine, except that I want to bring it online now. It's out of the question to close fbserver.exe (running on a Windows box, afaik it's Classic Server 2.1.1 but it may be Super) since we have other databases running off of that which need almost 24/7 uptime. The message from doing another gfix -shut -force or -attach or -tran is invalid shutdown mode for dbname which appears to match with the documentation of what happens if the database is already fully shut down. Ideas and input greatly appreciated, especially since at the moment time is a factor for me. Thanks! EDIT: The whole reason I shut down the DB is to clear out "active" transactions which were linked to a specific IP address, and that computer is my dev terminal (actually a virtual machine where I develop frontends for the database software) but I had no processes connecting to the database at the time. They looked like orphaned transactions to me, and they weren't in limbo afaik. Running a manual sweep didn't clear them out, deleting the rows from MON$STATEMENTS didn't work even though Firebird 2.1 supposedly supports cancelling queries that way. My last resort was to "restart" the database, hence the above issue.

• Macbook Pro - Randomly sleeps and won't wake up

  All, I have a Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2009) that has had a long time issues which seems to be getting worse. Occasionally, I will go to wake the computer with the keyboard and can't wake it. The HDD spins up, the light on the front of the computer stops blinking, but as soon as it seems like the display should light up, the HDD stops and the light begins blinking again. More rarely, the computer will suddenly sleep while I am using it and then enters the same sleep loop. The only way to resume working on the computer is to wait. Doing a hard restart just puts it right back into the 'sleep loop.' • Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement during installation

  I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition R2 x64 and I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition. All of the preliminary checks run fine (Apart from a warning about Windows Firewall and opening ports which is unrelated to this and shouldn't be an issue - I can open those ports). Half way through the actual installation, I get a popup with this error: Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. The installation still runs to completion when I press ok. However, at the end, it states that the following services "failed": database engine services sql server replication full-text search reporting services How do I know if this actually means that anything from my installation (which is on a clean Windows Server setup - nothing else on there, no previous SQL Servers, no upgrades, etc) is missing? I know from my programming experience that locks are for concurrency control and the Microsoft help on this issue points to changing my query's lock/transactions in a certain way to fix the issue. But I am not touching any queries? Also, now that I have installed the app, when I login, I keep getting this message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I have disabled Windows Firewall temporarily. I have checked the instance name against the error logs. Please advise on both of these errors. I think these two errors are related. Thanks

• Mac OS X Server (10.5) mail trapped in queue

  We've got mail accumulating in our Leopard Server's queue and not sure exactly why. This machine has required little maintenance over the years so I'm hoping someone here spot the obvious and save us some time. Let me know what other information would be helfull. Server appears to be functioning normally except for "clogged" queue and the following error associated with each "trapped" message: Looking at messages in the queue each one states something like this: Message ID: 4213C3B8B3F Date: October 27, 2009 11:33:27 AM Size: 1824 Sender: [email protected] Recipient(s) & Status: ---------------------- [email protected]: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused Under SettingsRelay we have checked Accept SMTP relays only from these hosts and networks: 127.0.0.0/8 10.0.1.0/24 The mail in queue is addressed to users whose accounts are on this server. Mail.app on the client appears to be functioning normally and checking checking mail on the server. We did add a virtual domain some time ago but all that was working fine for some time... This just started happening recently...any ideas? Edit: toggling the filter services on and off seems to have fixed this except for 2 remaining queued messages that show "mail transport unavailable" as an error!?!

• Programmable Home Security Alarm [closed]

  I don't ask for recommendation! (just wanted to say that; anyway it doesn't matter now as the question is closed) I've seen some advertisements about home alarms that notifies me that something is happening in my house. None of them mentioned programmability (with real programming language like e.g C, assembler, whatever). As a programmer I'd like to have a possibility to add some behaviour, that is not part of the alarm itself. This might be: take snapshots of all cameras in a house and send it to some email send email, twitter message, skype message to some predefined account send email to a police (silly, I know) start turning the lights on and off (scary, right?) etc. (would be veeery challenging with assembler, I know; but lets suppose I can use some more high level language) I don't expect that there is a alarm system capable of this stuff, that's why I'm looking for a programmable module. Question: Is it even possible? Is it good idea (my program could crash and cause instability of the system).
