  Hi, In order to make full use the Facebook like button, I am trying to switching from iframe-based like button to js-based like button. url: http://www.dealsvista.com Everything works fine for a user who is logged into Facebook. However, for a user who is not logged into Facebook, when he clicks the like button, there is a error in the popup window. Could someone point me to the right direction? • Have a workaround for the 1,000 file limit in a directory on windows mobile 5?

  I need to download more than 1,000 files into a windows mobile 5 directory located on the storage card. If i copy the files onto the storage card via my desktop there is no problem. But when i try to download the files from the handheld device I get a disk full error, even though there is plenty of room due to the 1,000 file limit. Has anyone run into this and found a workaround? I'm going to try zipping all of the files then decompressing on the device but not sure that this will work.

  What is the 'best practice' when returning dynamic data for a table (server side sorting, filtering etc from a db) ? Do you return just the data in json, and repeatedly clone a row element, replacing the values in each row (thus decreasing the size of the ajax call, but increasing the client side processing), or return the full html, and replace with .html or .append? Or is there another method I'm missing? This is a frequent situation in my app, and in some cases a bottleneck, and I am unsure if what I am doing is the best solution. Currently, I return the row html and use a single .append call, after emptying all the rows except the header.

• Xcode can't find imported header files

  I've used other IDE's in the past but am new to Xcode. I'm trying to bring in a bunch of C code from an open source project. I've imported them into a new Group and the .c files all show up under Implementation Files and the full list of files shows up in the Groups/Files group as well as my project directory in the finder. When I try to include or import one of these header files, code completion even works so I know Xcode is seeing them. But then when I go to build it says "no such file or directory". How can I get these files to import into my code?

• Does this interface already exist in the standard .NET libraries?

  I found myself needing a simple generic interface, and I wrote it, but it turned out to be pretty much the world's simplest interface. I was wondering if it already exists by some other name. I just want to make sure I'm not reinventing something that is already included with the .NET framework. interface IReceiver<T> { void Receive(T obj); } I can't really find a good list of "standard" interfaces that came with .NET. Does the structure of this interface look familiar to anyone? Have I reinvented something that is already standard? EDIT: I have a data object and a number of objects interested in receiving the data. Objects interested in receiving the data implement the interface, so that 'routing' lists and maps can send the data to them. The idea is full generalization in the routing, the routing will be data-driven.

• Why there is so few AJAX (WEB 2.0) websites ?

  I am wondering and looking for some general reasons why there is so few full AJAX websites. Good example would be Gmail, which really uses a lot of the modern web technologies. But there is so few of these and almost all the websites use classic "request - pageload" approach. I am going to be developing website with most requests completed by AJAX call, as there is need for as few page loads as possible. So I am looking for some general advices or opinions about this. My personal big concern is search engines, because if most of the content is at one URL, how do you make that AJAX content crawlable ? There are probably more these questions which rise up, and I am looking for these to prepare for these problems before I start developing and it's too late to fix them.

• Export from a standalone database to an embedded database.

  I have a two-part application, where there is a central database that is edited, and then at certain times, the data is released and distributed as its own application. I would like to use a standalone database for the central database (MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) and then have a reliable export to an embedded database (probably SQLite) for distribution. What tools/processes are available for such an export, or is it a practice to be avoided? EDIT: A couple of additional pieces of information. The distributed application should be able to run without having to connect to another server (ex: your spellchecker still works even you don't have internet), and I don't want to install a full DB server for read-only access to the data.

• Mercurial: Recommended way of sending a whole repository to someone

  I have done some programming and I have used Mercurial for source control. I now need to send all of my code to someone else (because they are going to take over). Since all copies of a mercurial repository is a full and real repository my first thought is to first do a clone of my repository without an update and then zipping and emailing that clone. Is this a good way, or is there a better way? For example when using the TortoiseHg Repository Explorer I can right-click on a changeset and under Export there are various options that looks like they could be doing something interesting, but I don't quite understand them or know which one to use.

• Is it possible to make an online registration process for a course in Google Docs with a cap on registrations?

  I am trying to build an online registration form for an institute I intern at that is running a training programme with multiple courses and hundreds of applicants. I've done registration forms with Google Docs Forms before, but the tricky spot this time round is that I'm trying to put a registration cap on each of the courses. Every person needs to register for one course in every timeslot, and there are seven or so timeslots. However, as seating space in every venue is limited, we would like to cap registrations per course (venue) to 200 per course, after which either a) the applicant will be informed that they need to register for another course in that timeslot if they apply to a full course, or b) ideal case scenario, the option will be greyed out. Is this possible using Google Docs Forms at all? If not, is there a free alternative that might do the job properly?

  I'm currently taking a year out from University to do an internship at a large (well known) software vendor. I'll be returning to Uni next September for a year to finish my studies. I really want to take a year out after graduation, I won't be doing any programming in this year. Will this make me less competitive when applying for programmer jobs when I get back from my year away? I'm looking to work with the Microsoft technology stack, my internship has been all Java and Unix thus far. The assumption is I won't be taking up a full time offer with the company I interned at (despite the offer).

• How do I change the background image of my app?

  Hello I have looked around and found some code which so called chooses an image from an array of image objects, but cant find an explanation. I would like to make my app have a background image and the user can select next and previous buttons to scroll through some full screen images, setting them as the background image as they scroll. I know how to do this in java, but cant seem to do it for this app. How or what code is linked to a next button to grab the next image in the array and reverse for the back button? Then that needs to be displayed obviously. I have used a layered architecture with a MVC style approach but cant seem to put it together with Objective-C. Would the buttons call the appropriate methods of the so called delegates, which the delegates handle fetching and returning the Images? Would the buttons use the returned images and actually handle the redrawing? I would really appreciate the help. Regards Jarryd

• working with files on "start without debugging"

  I'm programming in C, and I have the following problem: I use fopen and try to read from a csv file, that is currently storred in the folder of the exe file of the program. the program works fine in debug mode and release mode, but when I try to run the program in "start without debugging" on visual studio 2008 express edition, the program stops working and windows is showing a message: "*.exe has stopped working. a program caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I've tried running the program on several computers, and it's the same. another information I can give you is that if I enter the full path of the file (C:....file.csv) - then is works just fine, without any problem. I know I didn't write any code, but I hope someone will have an idea why this can happend. thanks is advance.

• Program output to file in Java (and reading it again)

  I have a large main method in an IO class which creates objects from four different classes in my program (which all use one another to some extent). My main method takes all info in using a scanner, from the console window, and uses this info to call the constructors and methods in the other classes. As this is my first full program in Java I have been focussed on making the main method work via the console, without properly considering file input and output. I cannot see an easy way of making that work now. Ideally what I require is some way of writing everything I input to the console while running the main method to a file, in a format that can be read again and inputed back through the main method? I have refrained from posting the main method as it is 250+ lines long, but will post any relevant parts of it if required. Any help appreciated

• Using "as" and expecting a null return

  For example. Lets say we have a stackpanel on a form. Its full of both Grids and Labels. I want to loop through all the Grids and do some operation on them but leave the Lables intact. At the moment I am doing it this way. foreach(UIElement element in m_stacker.Children) { Grid block = element as Grid; if(block != null) { //apply changes here } } So i'm using the fact that "as" returns null if it cannot cast into the required type. Is this an ok thing to do or is there a better solution to this problem?

  I'm seeing strange results when doing a string.Format( "C" ); E.g. double val = 123456.78; Console.WriteLine( val.ToString( "C" ) ); This prints the thousand separator as 0xa0 rather than a comma (0x2c). I get the same result if I use string.Format( "{0:0,0.00}", 1234567.12D ); Here is the full output R 123ÿ456,78 52333A333233 201230456C78 My regional settings are English (South African) and I'm getting the same result on multiple machines.   I would like to draw a rectangle around a video playing on my screen. For example, I am watching a YouTube video in my browser. I would like to be able to take a screenshot, analyze that screenshot, and then draw a rectangle around where the YouTube video is playing. I have just started looking into how I might be able to to this. I came across OpenCV. I understand that OpenCV covers many computer vision techniques. Would any of them be particularly well suited for this task? Also, is this something that can be done in real time? Finally, is there a technique that would work for both in browser and full screen?   I am trying to proccess a queue of tasks from a database table as fast as possible while also limiting the number of threads to process the tasks. I am using a fixed sized thread pool with Executors.newFixedThreadPool(N); I want to know if there is a way of knowing if the thread pool is full, by that I mean are there currently 50 threads running, if so then I'll wait for a thread to be available before starting a new one instead of sleeping the main thread. Notepad.exe is the lightweight Windows editor by Microsoft. Notepad++ is an Open Source programmer's text editor for Windows based on SciTE. It has syntax highlighting, code collapsing, language recognition, macro recording, regular expression search and replace across line breaks and in files on disk, copy filenames and paths to clipboard, and many other advance text editing tools.   I am about to embark on my first outlook 2007 plugin. I would like to create a new tool bar that will have a button that will initially be disabled. When the user selects a message the button should be enabled... but only if the email is of a certain type of email... This is where I need your expert advice, is there a way to quickly flag an email in outlook, so that in the email select event you can look for a property of that email... for example... on_select if mail.type = "FromISP" then I would prefer not to use the from field.... the other thing is during the send process I need to set the flag, I am doing this again using .net so I have full control over how the mail is created. Let's assuming I'm using PHP or maybe even Ruby to do this. I would need a way to process the emails and dump them into a DB or something.   I need to build a cross platform mobile app (iphone, android, etc). The app is for a company like a cellular operator (Tmobile, ATT). The app needs to do the following: Show previous bills (cached so that it does not have to download everytime) Need an internet connection to download newer bills, view recent data, etc. Can I build a mobile web app to handle this? I understand that there is offline storage and iPhone has good support for web apps (full screen, good icons, offline, etc). Will a web app be the best approach to take as the app requires to be online? The app will not be used by lots of people, just customers of the website who don't want to use an existing website. We are all web developers and a mobile web app looks like the best way to approach this.

  I have a UI question that troubled me on the best method to handle 4 decimal places for prices. In an table already cramped full of data, I would want to simplified the interface to make it not so cluttered. The actual current UI is shown below. http://i41.tinypic.com/bg5tub.jpg The problem is, for a unit price/units/D.Price and Dis.(Discount) to have 4 decimal places ($0.3459) is quite rare but it still happens (5 in 100 entries). This will result a lot of junk decimal places, cluttering up the interface. What is the best solution to this problem? In short, I want to declutter it yet maintain the precision.
