  • SQL INSERT performance omitting field names?

    - by Marco Demaio
    Does anyone knows if removing the field names from an INSERT query results in some performance improvements? I mean is this: INSERT INTO table1 VALUES (value1, value2, ...) faster for DB to be accomplished rather than doing this: INSERT INTO table1 (field1, field2, ...) VALUES (value1, value2, ...) ? I know it might be probably a meaningless performance difference, but just to know.

  • Django save_m2m() and excluded field

    - by jul
    hi, in a ModelForm I replaced a field by excluding it and adding a new one with the same name, as shown below in AddRestaurantForm. When saving the form with the code shown below, I get an error in form.save_m2m() ("Truncated incorrect DOUBLE value"), which seems to be due to the function to attempt to save the tag field, while it is excluded. Is the save_m2m() function supposed to save excluded fields? Is there anything wrong in my code? Thanks Jul (...) new_restaurant = form.save(commit=False) new_restaurant.city = city new_restaurant.save() tags = form.cleaned_data['tag'] if(tags!=''): tags=tags.split(',') for t in tags: tag, created = Tag.objects.get_or_create(name = t.strip()) tag.save() new_restaurant.tag.add(tag) new_restaurant.save() form.save_m2m() models.py class Tag(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100, unique=True) class Restaurant(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=50) city=models.ForeignKey(City) category=models.ManyToManyField(Category) tag=models.ManyToManyField(Tag, blank=True, null=True) forms.py class AddRestaurantForm(ModelForm): name = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext)) city = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext), max_length=100) tag = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextInput(attrs=classtext), required=False) class Meta: model = Restaurant exclude = ('city','tag') Traceback: File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/core/handlers/base.py" in get_response 92. response = callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/home/jul/atable/../atable/resto/views.py" in addRestaurant 498. form.save_m2m() File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/forms/models.py" in save_m2m 75. f.save_form_data(instance, cleaned_data[f.name]) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in save_form_data 967. setattr(instance, self.attname, data) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in set 627. manager.add(*value) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in add 430. self._add_items(self.source_col_name, self.target_col_name, *objs) File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/django/db/models/fields/ related.py" in _add_items 497.   • how to save html to a database field

    - by ooo
    i have an tiny editor web page where my users can use this editor and i am saving the html into my database. i am having issues saving this html to my database. for example if there is a name with a "'" or if there are other html character "<,","" etc, my code seems to blow up on the insert. Is there any best practices about taking any arbitrary html and have it persist fully to a db field without worrying about any specific characters.

  • SQL Server - Filter field contents to numbers only

    - by Alex
    How can I copy the value of a field, but only its numbers? I am creating a computed column for fulltext search, and I want to copy the values from my Phone Number fields (which are varchar) into it, but not with their formatting - numbers only. What is the command that would do this in my computed column formula? Thank you!

  • Update just one field from backup

    - by justSteve
    I'm looking to restore one field from a backup and can't find the syntax for an update statement that can look at 2 different catalogs. Seems like it should be something fairly close to: update users set idUserCompany = (select idUserCompany from .myBackup.dbo.users uT) where uT.idUser = idUser

  • Django Show M2M field in both model forms

    - by John
    Hi I am using the forms.ModelForm to create my form. I want to be able to show the manytomany field in both model forms, how do I do this? If the manytomany relationship is defined in the model it is fine and just appears but if it is not in the model (but is still linked via the other model) it does not appear. Hope this makes sense. How can I make it show up? Thanks

  • Insert hex string value to sql server binary field is appending extra 0

    - by rotary_engine
    Have a binary field and want to insert into this from a hex string: insert into binaryTable(binaryField) values(convert(varbinary(max), 0x0)) however when I run select the value is return with an extra 0 as 0x00 This extra 0 is causing a problem in another application, I dont want it. Interesting, is if I do a select on an existing value and it returns say 0x55 then inserting this same value using the above query will return a select of 0x055. How to stop the extra 0 being added?

  • Problem with PHP; Posting Hidden Value!!?

    - by Derek
    Hi, I have a page which basically allows an admin user to create manager user types (basically a register function. So when the values are submitted, they are stored into the DB, very very basic stuff. However, I have a hidden variable type..reasons are I have 3 different user levels and I have declared they identification as an integer (e.g. 7 = manager, 8 =user etc.) Can someone help me out with how to correctly pass this hidden value so it stores in the database... Here is my form: <form id="userreg" name="userreg" method="post" action="adminadduser-process.php"> <label>Full Name:</label> <input name="fullname" size="40" id="fullname" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['fullname'])); ?>"/> <br /> <label>Username:</label> <input name="username" size="40" id="username" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['username'])); ?>"/> <br /> <label>Password:</label> <input name="password" size="40" id="password" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['password'])); ?>"/> <br /> <label>Email Address:</label> <input name="emailaddress" size="40" id="emailaddress" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['emailaddress'])); ?>"/> <br /> <input name="userlevel" type="hidden" size="1" id="userlevel" value="<?php $_POST[5]; ?>" /> <br /> <input value="Add User" class="addbtn" type="submit" /> </form></div> Next, here is the script that runs the query: <?php require_once "config.php"; $fullname = $_POST['fullname']; $username = $_POST['username']; $password = $_POST['password']; $emailaddress = $_POST['emailaddress']; $userlevel = $_POST[5]; $sql = "INSERT INTO users_tb VALUES('".$user_id."','".$fullname."','".$username."',MD5('".$password."'),'".$emailaddress."','".$userlevel."')"; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("MySQL Error: ".mysql_error()); header("Location: adminhome.php"); exit(); ?> I'm basically trying to pass the hidden typem with a constant value of '5' just for this form, as it will not be changed...also while im here, for some reason, the 'fullname' is not stored in the DB either!!?? WTH?? all other fields are processed fine. Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.

  • SQL. Sorting by a field

    - by strakastroukas
    I have created a simple view consisting of 3 tables in SQL. By right clicking and selecting Design, in the Object explorer table, i modified my custom view. I just added sortby asc in a field. The problem is that the changes are not reflected in the outout of the View. After saving the view, and selecting Open view the sort is not displayed in output. So what is going on here?

  • Select distinct values from a table field

    - by alj
    I'm struggling getting my head around the Django's ORM. What I want to do is get a list of distinct values within a field on my table .... the equivalent of one of the following: SELECT DISTINCT myfieldname FROM mytable (or alternatively) SELECT myfieldname FROM mytable GROUP BY myfieldname I'd at least like to do it the Django way before resorting to raw sql.

  • Mysql - Rank field for a query

    - by Mark
    How can I add a field that contains a rows rank within the result set of a query? Initially I used php to rank my results as it was all on a single page. Now I have added multiple pages so now even though I am on the second page the first result on the page is still '1st'. Obviously I could multiply the page number by the number of results per page and add the result number but I imagine there is a better way within the query. Thanks,

  • Change an autoincrementing field to one previous

    - by jlan
    One day, wordpress suddenly jumped from pots id 9110 to 890000000 post. Days later I'd like to move back new posts to continue from id 9111. I'm sure that id will never reach id 890000000, no problem here, but id is an autoincrement field and "ALTER TABLE wp8_posts AUTO_INCREMENT =9111" is not working. Can I force id to continue from 9111 ?
