  • Packing a file into an ELF executable

    - by Pierre Bourdon
    Hello, I'm currently looking for a way to add data to an already compiled ELF executable, i.e. embedding a file into the executable without recompiling it. I could easily do that by using cat myexe mydata > myexe_with_mydata, but I couldn't access the data from the executable because I don't know the size of the original executable. Does anyone have an idea of how I could implement this ? I thought of adding a section to the executable or using a special marker (0xBADBEEFC0FFEE for example) to detect the beginning of the data in the executable, but I do not know if there is a more beautiful way to do it. Thanks in advance.

  • Does changing the order of class private data members breaks ABI

    - by Dmitry Yudakov
    I have a class with number of private data members (some of them static), accessed by virtual and non-virtual member functions. There's no inline functions and no friend classes. class A { int number; string str; static const int static_const_number; public: // got virtual and non-virtual functions, working with these memebers virtual void func1(); void func2(); // no inline functions or friends }; Does changing the order of private data members breaks ABI in this case? class A { string str; static const int static_const_number; int number; // <-- integer member moved here ... };

  • Manipulating pixels using only toDataURL

    - by Chris
    The problem I have is this: I need to be able to dynamically tint an image using Javascript, but I cannot access pixel data via the canvas. I can, however, store the dataURL (or any other text-based data format) and include that with the code, manipulate that data, and then create an image object using that dataURL. My question is, how can I access the RGBA value of each pixel, given only the dataURL. I assume I need to decode the base64 url, but into what format in order to manipulate on the pixel level? And then would be it be as trivial as re-encoding it as base64, slapping it in a url, and the passing to an image? Thanks.

  • BST insert operation. don't insert a node if a duplicate exists already

    - by jeev
    the following code reads an input array, and constructs a BST from it. if the current arr[i] is a duplicate, of a node in the tree, then arr[i] is discarded. count in the struct node refers to the number of times a number appears in the array. fi refers to the first index of the element found in the array. after the insertion, i am doing a post-order traversal of the tree and printing the data, count and index (in this order). the output i am getting when i run this code is: 0 0 7 0 0 6 thank you for your help. Jeev struct node{ int data; struct node *left; struct node *right; int fi; int count; }; struct node* binSearchTree(int arr[], int size); int setdata(struct node**node, int data, int index); void insert(int data, struct node **root, int index); void sortOnCount(struct node* root); void main(){ int arr[] = {2,5,2,8,5,6,8,8}; int size = sizeof(arr)/sizeof(arr[0]); struct node* temp = binSearchTree(arr, size); sortOnCount(temp); } struct node* binSearchTree(int arr[], int size){ struct node* root = (struct node*)malloc(sizeof(struct node)); if(!setdata(&root, arr[0], 0)) fprintf(stderr, "root couldn't be initialized"); int i = 1; for(;i<size;i++){ insert(arr[i], &root, i); } return root; } int setdata(struct node** nod, int data, int index){ if(*nod!=NULL){ (*nod)->fi = index; (*nod)->left = NULL; (*nod)->right = NULL; return 1; } return 0; } void insert(int data, struct node **root, int index){ struct node* new = (struct node*)malloc(sizeof(struct node)); setdata(&new, data, index); struct node** temp = root; while(1){ if(data<=(*temp)->data){ if((*temp)->left!=NULL) *temp=(*temp)->left; else{ (*temp)->left = new; break; } } else if(data>(*temp)->data){ if((*temp)->right!=NULL) *temp=(*temp)->right; else{ (*temp)->right = new; break; } } else{ (*temp)->count++; free(new); break; } } } void sortOnCount(struct node* root){ if(root!=NULL){ sortOnCount(root->left); sortOnCount(root->right); printf("%d %d %d\n", (root)->data, (root)->count, (root)->fi); } }

  • Sending a file over web service from java to .net

    - by Goran
    Hello, I have built .NET 1.1 Web Service which should accept files and save them. Here is the code of the webmethod: [WebMethod] public bool SaveDocument(Byte[] docbinaryarray, string docname) { string dirPath = @"C:\Temp\WSTEST\"; if(!Directory.Exists(dirPath)) { Directory.CreateDirectory(dirPath); } string filePath = dirPath + docname; FileStream objfilestream = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite); objfilestream.Write(docbinaryarray, 0, docbinaryarray.Length); objfilestream.Close(); return true; } When I make a client in .NET with reference to this Web service everything goes great, but when a college of mine tries to send me a file from a JAVA client I don't get the actuall file. All I get is byte array with only one element. Definition of byte array for file, in WSDL looks like this: <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="docbinaryarray" type="s:base64Binary" /> He sends me base64binary and fails every time. All I get is Byte array with only one element inside.

  • Why am I not getting the expected results with fread() in C?

    - by mauvehead
    Here is my code: #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { FILE *fp; unsigned int i; char bytes[512]; fp = fopen("myFile","r"); for(i = 0;i <= 512;i++) { fread(&bytes, sizeof(bytes), 1, fp); printf("bytes[%d]: %x\n", i, bytes[i]); } } Here is the expected output $ hexdump myFile 0000000 aa55 aa55 0060 0000 0a17 0000 b1a5 a2ea 0000010 0000 0000 614c 7563 616e 0000 0000 0000 0000020 0000 0000 0a68 0000 1001 421e 0000 0000 0000030 f6a0 487d ffff ffff 0040 0000 002f 0000 But here is what I see from my program bytes[0]: 55 bytes[1]: 8 bytes[2]: ffffffc8 bytes[3]: ffffffdd bytes[4]: 22 bytes[5]: ffffffc8 bytes[6]: ffffff91 bytes[7]: 63 bytes[8]: ffffff82 My obvious guess is that I'm either addressing something incorrectly and receiving the wrong data back or I am printing it incorrectly and viewing it the wrong way.

  • red black tree balancing?

    - by Anirudh Kaki
    i am working to generate tango tree, where i need to check whether every sub tree in tango is balanced or not. if its not balanced i need to make it balance? I trying so hard to make entire RB-tree balance but i not getting any proper logic so can any one help me out?? here i am adding code to check how to find my tree is balanced are not but when its not balanced how can i make it balance. static boolean verifyProperty5(rbnode n) { int left = 0, right = 0; if (n != null) { bh++; left = blackHeight(n.left, 0); right = blackHeight(n.right, 0); } if (left == right) { System.out.println("black height is :: " + bh); return true; } else { System.out.println("in balance"); return false; } } public static int blackHeight(rbnode root, int len) { bh = 0; blackHeight(root, path1, len); return bh; } private static void blackHeight(rbnode root, int path1[], int len) { if (root == null) return; if (root.color == "black"){ root.black_count = root.parent.black_count+1; } else{ root.black_count = root.parent.black_count; } if ((root.left == null) && (root.right == null)) { bh = root.black_count; } blackHeight(root.left, path1, len); blackHeight(root.right, path1, len); }

  • PHP: Simple, Validate if string is hex?

    - by oni-kun
    I have no clue how to validate this string. I am simply supplying an IV for an encryption, but can find no "is_hex()" or similar function, I can't wrap my head around it! I read on a comment in the php documentation (user contrib. notes) this: if($iv == dechex(hexdec($iv))) { //True } else { //False } But that doesn't seem to work at all.. It only says false. If it helps my input of my IV would be this: 92bff433cc639a6d

  • iPhone SDK - How is data shared in a universal app

    - by norskben
    Stack overflow I want to make a universal version of my app available, but I am wondering how is data managed between the iPad and the iPhone versions? -Are they completely independent? or if I have a plist in the iPad app, does it also appear in the iPhone app. If so, is there any syncing etc etc. I have a few months experience with single iPad or iPhone apps, but never a universal. Thanks again. UPDATE: I was interested in the files in the /Documents folder, does this automatically update on itunes syncing at all?

  • Getting a specific bit value in a byte string

    - by ignoramus
    There is a byte at a specific index in a byte string which represents eight flags; one flag per bit in the byte. If a flag is set, its corresponding bit is 1, otherwise its 0. For example, if I've got b'\x21' the flags would be 0001 0101 # Three flags are set at indexes 3, 5 and 7 # and the others are not set What would be the best way to get each bit value in that byte, so I know whether a particular flag is set or not? (Preferably using bitwise operations)

  • How to keep iPhone app out of iPad store?

    - by Eric
    I have an iPhone app that I have started to turn into a universal app, however the process is not complete and I want to release an update to the iPhone version. I know that you can specify device capabilities in the Info.plist file to restrict your app to certain devices, but how can I do this to prevent the unfinished universal version from appearing in the iPad store? Is checking the LSRequiresiPhoneOS BOOL entry (in the Info.plist file) enough? Thanks!

  • How to set up an Android source repo while hosting the git trees as private repositories on github?

    - by gby
    Hello there, I am trying to set up a private repository of Android source code while hosting the git trees on github as private repos. I have no problem changing the manifest.xml file to point to public git trees hosted on github in the same way that CynagonMod does, but when trying to point to private repos I get the following error when trying "repo sync": Initializing project username/android_external_webkit ... fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly error: Cannot fetch username/android_external_webkit Where username/android_external_webkit is of course a private github repo of the same name. I understand the error occurs since I did not specify my user name and credentials to github, but I fail to see how to do it in the manifest.xml with repo. Any ideas? Thanks! Gilad

  • Python and C++ Sockets converting packet data

    - by yeus
    First of all, to clarify my goal: There exist two programs written in C in our laboratory. I am working on a Proxy Server (bidirectional) for them (which will also mainpulate the data). And I want to write that proxy server in Python. It is important to know that I know close to nothing about these two programs, I only know the definition file of the packets. Now: assuming a packet definition in one of the C++ programs reads like this: unsigned char Packet[0x32]; // Packet[Length] int z=0; Packet[0]=0x00; // Spare Packet[1]=0x32; // Length Packet[2]=0x01; // Source Packet[3]=0x02; // Destination Packet[4]=0x01; // ID Packet[5]=0x00; // Spare for(z=0;z<=24;z+=8) { Packet[9-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof0_rot*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[13-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof0_speed*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[17-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof1_rot*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[21-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof1_speed*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[25-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof2_rot*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[29-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof2_speed*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[33-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof3_rot*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[37-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof3_speed*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[41-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof4_rot*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[45-z/8]=((int)(720000+armcontrolpacket->dof4_speed*1000)/(int)pow((double)2,(double)z)); Packet[49-z/8]=((int)armcontrolpacket->timestamp/(int)pow(2.0,(double)z)); } if(SendPacket(sock,(char*)&Packet,sizeof(Packet))) return 1; return 0; What would be the easiest way to receive that data, convert it into a readable python format, manipulate them and send them forward to the receiver?

  • Upgrade live Universal App to iPad only

    - by Alpár
    Hi. We have a live universal app in the AppStore. Our client changed his mind and doesn't want the app to be universal anymore, he wants it to be iPad only. Since the app was submitted some time ago, there are users who use the iPhone version. What happens if we submit an upgrade that is iPad only? Will the review team reject it? And if it goes live, will the iPhone users receive a notification about the update? If yes in what form? Or will the iPhone users just be unable to reinstall the app? Thank you!

  • Is there any benefit to my rather quirky character sizing convention?

    - by Paul Alan Taylor
    I love things that are a power of 2. I celebrated my 32nd birthday knowing it was the last time in 32 years I'd be able to claim that my age was a power of 2. I'm obsessed. It's like being some Z-list Batman villain, except without the colourful adventures and a face full of batarangs. I ensure that all my enum values are powers of 2, if only for future bitwise operations, and I'm reasonably assured that there is some purpose (even if latent) for doing it. Where I'm less sure, is in how I define the lengths of database fields. Again, I can't help it. Everything ends up being a power of 2. CREATE TABLE Person ( PersonID int IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY ,Firstname varchar(64) ,Surname varchar(128) ) Can any SQL super-boffins who know about the internals of how stuff is stored and retrieved tell me whether there is any benefit to my inexplicable obsession? Is it more efficient to size character fields this way? Can anyone pop in with an "actually, what you're doing works because ....."? I suspect I'm just getting crazier in my older age, but it'd be nice to know that there is some method to my madness.

  • What is the fastest way to do division in C for 8bit MCUs?

    - by Jordan S
    I am working on the firmware for a device that uses an 8bit mcu (8051 architecture). I am using SDCC (Small Device C Compiler). I have a function that I use to set the speed of a stepper motor that my circuit is driving. The speed is set by loading a desired value into the reload register for a timer. I have a variable, MotorSpeed that is in the range of 0 to 1200 which represents pulses per second to the motor. My function to convert MotorSpeed to the correct 16bit reload value is shown below. I know that float point operations are pretty slow and I am wondering if there is a faster way of doing this... void SetSpeed() { float t = MotorSpeed; unsigned int j = 0; t = 1/t ; t = t / 0.000001; j = MaxInt - t; TMR3RL = j; // Set reload register for desired freq return; }

  • binary_search not working for a vector<string>

    - by VaioIsBorn
    #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <algorithm> using namespace std; int main(void) { string temp; vector<string> encrypt, decrypt; int i,n, co=0; cin >> n; for(i=0;i<n;i++) { cin >> temp; encrypt.push_back(temp); } for(i=0;i<n;i++) { cin >> temp; decrypt.push_back(temp); } for(i=0;i<n;i++) { temp = encrypt[i]; if((binary_search(decrypt.begin(), decrypt.end(), temp)) == true) ++co; } cout << co << endl; return 0; } It reads two equal lists of strings and should print out how many of the words in the first list are also found in the second list, simple. Not giving me the expexted results and i think the problem is in binary_search. Can you tell me why ?

  • Non standard interaction among two tables to avoid very large merge

    - by riko
    Suppose I have two tables A and B. Table A has a multi-level index (a, b) and one column (ts). b determines univocally ts. A = pd.DataFrame( [('a', 'x', 4), ('a', 'y', 6), ('a', 'z', 5), ('b', 'x', 4), ('b', 'z', 5), ('c', 'y', 6)], columns=['a', 'b', 'ts']).set_index(['a', 'b']) AA = A.reset_index() Table B is another one-column (ts) table with non-unique index (a). The ts's are sorted "inside" each group, i.e., B.ix[x] is sorted for each x. Moreover, there is always a value in B.ix[x] that is greater than or equal to the values in A. B = pd.DataFrame( dict(a=list('aaaaabbcccccc'), ts=[1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 7, 8, 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9])).set_index('a') The semantics in this is that B contains observations of occurrences of an event of type indicated by the index. I would like to find from B the timestamp of the first occurrence of each event type after the timestamp specified in A for each value of b. In other words, I would like to get a table with the same shape of A, that instead of ts contains the "minimum value occurring after ts" as specified by table B. So, my goal would be: C: ('a', 'x') 4 ('a', 'y') 7 ('a', 'z') 5 ('b', 'x') 7 ('b', 'z') 7 ('c', 'y') 8 I have some working code, but is terribly slow. C = AA.apply(lambda row: ( row[0], row[1], B.ix[row[0]].irow(np.searchsorted(B.ts[row[0]], row[2]))), axis=1).set_index(['a', 'b']) Profiling shows the culprit is obviously B.ix[row[0]].irow(np.searchsorted(B.ts[row[0]], row[2]))). However, standard solutions using merge/join would take too much RAM in the long run. Consider that now I have 1000 a's, assume constant the average number of b's per a (probably 100-200), and consider that the number of observations per a is probably in the order of 300. In production I will have 1000 more a's. 1,000,000 x 200 x 300 = 60,000,000,000 rows may be a bit too much to keep in RAM, especially considering that the data I need is perfectly described by a C like the one I discussed above. How would I improve the performance?
