  • Streaming video from a point-and-shoot camera that doesn't support it

    I have a Canon IXUS 120is (PowerShot SD940) - a nice digital camera that's a couple of years old. It does record fairly decent video, but, alas, can't function as a webcam - and I need to stream video over the Web. I've installed CHDK on it, and while it's quite flexible, doesn't seem to provide a solution to my problem. I suppose that the video footage is written to the SD card in real time - is there a hack that allows me to monitor the file as it is written, and broadcast its contents over the Internet? Perhaps connecting its the camera's slot to my laptop's card reader via SDIO? I'm running Windows, but I'm roughly familiar with Linux; another question has suggested a file-to-/dev/video driver - do such tools exist?

  • How will I support 100,000 requests an hour?!

    I know this question is a little strange but I got lucky with an idea and I need some numbers to use for when I try to make a deal with a company. I'm wondering how much it'll cost me to run a site that's heavy on PHP and gets between 70,000 and 100,000 requests an hour on something like Rackspace's Cloud Servers. I have no idea how many servers I need or how much RAM each one should have. There will be a decent number of images on the site (probably something like 10,000 in the first couple weeks) and the site runs on about 2,500 lines of PHP code. I figure I should sign up for a CDN of some kind, although CDN In A Box is all I've heard of and I'm not sure it's necessary for a site that's already on a cloud platform. I've obviously never done anything like this before so I'm just looking to get an estimation of what I need for this massive site... Also, I use a database and I was wondering how that works - would I dedicate one of the cloud servers to running the database or would I need to put the database into each of the cloud servers? What am I doing wrong here? Update 1: After doing a make clean and make distclean, I've reconfigured with the same parameters as above without any effect. The config.log is at Pastebin. Update 2: Modifying the LD_LIBRARY_PATH had no effect on the lib-deps of mod_ssl.so. UPDATE 3: I've compiled and recompiled many times, and verified with ldconfig that the OpenSSL libs dir is in my path, and included in ld.so.conf. Still cannot get httpd/mod_ssl to load the library at runtime.

However, I have no luck making psexec accept redirected input. Is it supposed to work at all?     I am trying to setup a SFTP server, running off Ubuntu Server 11.04. I installed openssh-server to provide SSH access. What I am trying to do is make file uploads run with a suffix (.filepart or whatever), which would be removed upon transfer completion. The flow idea is: User uploads cat.jpg The server starts writing cat.jpg.filepart in the destination directory Once the upload completes, the server trashes the previous cat.jpg (if any) and renames cat.jpg.filepart to cat.jpg This is to make sure that incomplete file uploads do not overwrite the existing files. Any idea on how I can do this? Thanks

    I am looking at Outlook for Mac (in Office 2011). I wanted to find out what versions of Exchange are supported, as well as whether MAPI is supported. I googled and also searched the Microsoft site. I also checked in wikipedia, but it was probably too soon. I found announcement about Outlook for Mac I found the system requirements on the official site, but they don't say anything on these topics. I saw some forum traffic saying: MAPI is not supported, but there was no attribution, so I won't bother to quote it. Can anyone point me to some official documents that address these concerns?

I've updated the kernel to Centos Plus: First, I've updated /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo: In the [centosplus] section: enabled=1 includepkgs=kernel* Then I ran yum ypdate and my Kernel was updated to Centos Plus: [root@vappsil disk]# uname -r 2.6.32-279.11.1.el6.centos.plus.x86_64 Then, I've added this to /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo into the [centosplus] section: includepkgs=kernel* jfsutils reiserfs-utils into the [base] and [updates] section: includepkgs=kernel* jfsutils reiserfs-utils But when trying to execute: yum install reiserfs-utils I get: No package reiserfs-utils available. How can I install the reiserFS-utils package to create a reiserFS partition?

    I am currently using Dropbox. Just decided to sync my huge (about 5 GB) iTunes Library (music collection) in Dropbox. For that I must subscribe to their paid account. But before I do so, I'd like evaluate the alternatives. Is there an alternative that does this? Local LAN sync (eg: sync my huge music collection across computers in local network without uploading/downloading them to internet) The following would be nice (but not required): Native android client - so music will be made available in the Android music app / SDHC card Selective sync: sync particular folders / exclude certain folders on certain computers .. eg: excluding porn folder on work computers ;-) Just like Dropbox, it MUST work on 64-bit Windows, Linux and Mac.   • Suggestions for accessing SQL Server from internet

    i need to be able to access a customer's SQL Server, and ideally their entire LAN, remotely. They have a firewall/router, but the guy responsible for it is unwilling to open ports for SQL Server, and is unable to support PPTP forwarding. The admin did open VNC, on a non-stanrdard port, but since they have a dynamic IP it is difficult to find them all the time. In the past i have created a VPN connection that connects back to our network. But that didn't work so well, since when i need access i have to ask the computer-phobic users to double-click the icon and press Connect i did try creating a scheduled task that attempts to keep the VPN connection back to our office up at all times by running: >rasdial "vpn to me" But after a few months the VPN connection went insane, and thought it was both, and neither, connected an disconnected; and the vpn connection wouldn't work again until the server was rebooted. Can anyone think of a way where i can access the customer's LAN that doesn't involve opening ports on the router needing to know their external IP customer interaction of any kind Blah blah blah use vpn vnc protocol has known weaknesses you are unwise to lower your defenses it's not wise to expose SQL Server directly to the internet you stole that line from Empire Customer doesn't care about any of that. Customer wants things to work.

    I just set up an new DirectAdmin, and I want to prepare it for IPv6 use. My ISP have gave me an range of IPv6 addresses that I can use. Lets say that address is 2a01:7c8:**:1f::. My neworkadapter user DHCP to resolves its IP-addresses. I get the error: connect: Network is unreachable. I decided that I needed an gateway, so I tryed to add one: ip -6 route add default via 2a01:7c8:****::1 dev eth0 (2a01:7c8:**::1 is the gateway of my ISP). But it trows an error: RTNETLINK answers: No route to host. Does somebody know what to do, and how to solve this issue? Thanks a lot!

    I have a Cisco 1841 configured for VPN connections of two types: Peer-to-peer for partners' routers (IPsec) — using different crypto isakmp key and crypto map with set peer, set transform-set, match address for every peer (same map name, different priorities). That crypto map name is added to the WAN interface. Client access (PPTP) — using vpdn-group with accept-dialin protocol pptp. Now, a new partner wants to connect using vpnc client. The latter needs IPSec ID (group name) and IPSec secret in addition to username and password. I guess that IPSec secret is pre-shared key that can be specified in crypto isakmp key on Cisco. But I could not find any VPN tutorials involving groups. Hence, my questions: How to add IPSec ID (group name) and IPSec secret on Cisco router for vpnc connections? Should I add a new crypto map matching all addresses as well? Is it possible to add this configuration without breaking the existing setup? Thank you.

I want to put in a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz processor (Socket 478) with an FSB of 800 MHz. Would this be possible? Would the FSB of the processor just be limited to 533 MHz? Thanks in advance.

    I'm looking for DNS software that can accomplish the following: Check health of all A records at set intervals If server is unresponsive after multiple successive checks, replace A record with a working server When a server is down, check it periodically. Once it's up, restore normal A records Here's an equivalent I thought of: Run DNS servers with very low TTL (minutes) Use a cron job to periodically query all webservers Use sed to replace A records if need be, and then restart DNS server I have a hard time believing there isn't already something that can accomplish the above. I'm not looking for a paid service, and I'm restricted to anything I can run with root access to a VPS. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

  • Remote support via VPN without split tunnel

    my title might not be very clear, but I'll explain my setup in more detail now. We have several customers (companies) that need to be remotely supported. At these customers we have servers running with our software that needs to be serviced. These servers are (almost) never connected to the internet. For this we have multiple PC's running VPN clients. These PC's run a VNC server so our service engineers can login from their home laptop remotely to these PC's and connect from there to our customer via the VPN connection on the PC. The problem is however that several customers do not allow split tunneling. That means that when we connect via VPN to such a customer the VNC connection drops. Our current workaround is using a Citrix VM which we control via XenCenter console, but it's quite slow. Are there common solutions to handle this?
