  • Nested multithread operations tracing

    - by Sinix
    I've a code alike void ExecuteTraced(Action a, string message) { TraceOpStart(message); a(); TraceOpEnd(message); } The callback (a) could call ExecuteTraced again, and, in some cases, asynchronously (via ThreadPool, BeginInvoke, PLINQ etc, so I've no ability to explicitly mark operation scope). I want to trace all operation nested (even if they perform asynchronously). So, I need the ability to get last traced operation inside logical call context (there may be a lot of concurrent threads, so it's impossible to use lastTraced static field). There're CallContext.LogicalGetData and CallContext.LogicalSetData, but unfortunately, LogicalCallContext propagates changes back to the parent context as EndInvoke() called. Even worse, this may occure at any moment if EndInvoke() was called async. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/883486/endinvoke-changes-current-callcontext-why Also, there is Trace.CorrelationManager, but it based on CallContext and have all the same troubles. There's a workaround: use the CallContext.HostContext property which does not propagates back as async operation ended. Also, it does'nt clone, so the value should be immutable - not a problem. Though, it's used by HttpContext and so, workaround is not usable in Asp.Net apps. The only way I see is to wrap HostContext (if not mine) or entire LogicalCallContext into dynamic and dispatch all calls beside last traced operation. Help, please!

  • I need an abstract field !

    - by Jules Olléon
    I know abstract fields do not exist in java. I also read this question but the solutions proposed won't solve my problem. Maybe there is no solution, but it's worth asking :) Problem I have an abstract class that does an operation in the constructor depending on the value of one of its fields. The problem is that the value of this field will change depending on the subclass. How can I do so that the operation is done on the value of the field redefined by the subclass ? If I just "override" the field in the subclass the operation is done on the value of the field in the abstract class. I'm open to any solution that would ensure that the operation will be done during the instantiation of the subclass (ie putting the operation in a method called by each subclass in the constructor is not a valid solution, because someone might extend the abstract class and forget to call the method). Also, I don't want to give the value of the field as an argument of the constructor. Is there any solution to do that, or should I just change my design ?

  • Programatic re-evalutation of MVVM command's "can execute" state

    - by dzs
    Hello! I'm writing a WPF application using the MVVM pattern, based on the following article: WPF Apps With The Model-View-ViewModel Design Pattern I have two buttons on my View with the buttons' "Command" property bound (with data binding) to a given instance of the RelayCommand class (see "Figure 3 The RelayCommand Class" from the article above). The RelayCommand class has support for checking whether the given command can be executed. WPF automatically disables buttons whose command cannot be executed. Each of my commands (in the ViewModel class) start a background operation, and the command cannot be executed again until the background operation is finished. The RelayCommand instances have information whether the background operation is still working or it is finished. My problem is the following: after pressing the any of the buttons, the buttons automaticaly go disabled (which is OK) because the background operation started and the command cannot be executed until it is finished, but after the operation had finished, the buttons don't go enabled automatically because their command's "can be executed" predicate is not automatically reevaluated. The reevaluation can be manually triggered by having the application loose and regain focus (by pressing ALT+TAB). After doing this trick, the buttons get enabled once again. How can I programatically reevaluate the buttons' command's "can execute" state?

  • Cube project doesn't work because of permissions

    - by sms
    I'm doing "Multidimensional Project" with MS SQL Server 2012 (Server Data Tools - Visual Studio 2010 Shell). I can't run (debug) it. If the data source's impersonation information is set to "use the service account", this error occures: Error 2 Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. 0 0 Error 3 OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'NT Service\MSSQLServerOLAPService'.; 28000. 0 0 Error 4 Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'Data Warehouse', Name of 'Data Warehouse'. 0 0 Error 5 Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the dimension, with the ID of 'Items', Name of 'Items' was being processed. 0 0 Error 6 Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the 'Id' attribute of the 'Items' dimension from the 'Warehouse_MultidimensionalProject_Cube' database was being processed. 0 0 Error 7 Server: The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed. 0 0 I guessed that this account has no premissions but (1) I coudn't even add this account (it seems that it doesn't exist) and (2) how is that even possible for it to not have built-it poremissions? When I'm setting impersonation to "use the credentials of current user" (which is the owner of the data source, btw.), another error occures: Error 2 Internal error: The operation terminated unsuccessfully. 0 0 Error 3 The datasource, 'Data Warehouse', contains an ImpersonationMode that is not supported for processing operations. 0 0 Any help?

  • Perform selector on parent NSOperation

    - by user326943
    I extend NSOperation (call it A) which contains NSOperationQueue for other NSOperations (which is another extended class different from A, call these operations B). When operation A is running (executing B operations) how do i call a specific function/method on operation A when certain event takes place on B operations? For example every operation B that finishes it calls a function on operation A returning itself? *Nested NSOperation and NSOperationQueue(s) Hope this mockup pseudo code can help to draw the picture. //My classes extended from NSOperation NSOperation ClassA NSOperation ClassB //MainApp -(void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { ClassA A1; ClassA A2; NSOperationQueue Queue; Queue AddOperation: A1; Queue AddOperation: A2; } //Main of ClassA -(void)main { ClassB B1; ClassB B2; NSOperationQueue Queue; Queue AddOperation: B1; Queue AddOperation: B2; } //Main of ClassB -(void)main { //Do some work and when done call selector on ClassA above }

  • Parsing basic math equations for children's educational software?

    - by Simucal
    Inspired by a recent TED talk, I want to write a small piece of educational software. The researcher created little miniature computers in the shape of blocks called "Siftables". [David Merril, inventor - with Siftables in the background.] There were many applications he used the blocks in but my favorite was when each block was a number or basic operation symbol. You could then re-arrange the blocks of numbers or operation symbols in a line, and it would display an answer on another siftable block. So, I've decided I wanted to implemented a software version of "Math Siftables" on a limited scale as my final project for a CS course I'm taking. What is the generally accepted way for parsing and interpreting a string of math expressions, and if they are valid, perform the operation? Is this a case where I should implement a full parser/lexer? I would imagine interpreting basic math expressions would be a semi-common problem in computer science so I'm looking for the right way to approach this. For example, if my Math Siftable blocks where arranged like: [1] [+] [2] This would be a valid sequence and I would perform the necessary operation to arrive at "3". However, if the child were to drag several operation blocks together such as: [2] [\] [\] [5] It would obviously be invalid. Ultimately, I want to be able to parse and interpret any number of chains of operations with the blocks that the user can drag together. Can anyone explain to me or point me to resources for parsing basic math expressions? I'd prefer as much of a language agnostic answer as possible.

  • Understanding F# Asynchronous Programming

    - by Yin Zhu
    I kind of know the syntax of asynchronous programming in F#. E.g. let downloadUrl(url:string) = async { let req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) // Run operation asynchronously let! resp = req.AsyncGetResponse() let stream = resp.GetResponseStream() // Dispose 'StreamReader' when completed use reader = new StreamReader(stream) // Run asynchronously and then return the result return! reader.AsyncReadToEnd() } In F# expert book (and many other sources), they say like let! var = expr simply means "perform the asynchronous operation expr and bind the result to var when the operation completes. Then continue by executing the rest of the computation body" I also know that a new thread is created when performing async operation. My original understanding was that there are two parallel threads after the async operation, one doing I/O and one continuing to execute the async body at the same time. But in this example, I am confused at let! resp = req.AsyncGetResponse() let stream = resp.GetResponseStream() What happens if resp has not started yet and the thread in the async body wants to GetResponseStream? Is this a possible error? So maybe my original understanding was wrong. The quoted sentences in the F# expert book actually means that "creating a new thread, hang the current thread up, when the new thread finishes, wake up the body thread and continue", but in this case I don't see we could save any time. In the original understanding, the time is saved when there are several independent IO operations in one async block so that they could be done at the same time without intervention with each other. But here, if I don't get the response, I cannot create the stream; only I have stream, I can start reading the stream. Where's the time gained?

  • OO design for business logic

    - by hotyi
    I have one Sell Operation object and two Buy Operation objects, i want to implement such behavior that one Sell Operation discharges two Buy Operation, it looks like: sellOperation.Discharge(oneBuyOperation); sellOperation.Discharge(twoBuyOperation); so i want to ask whether i should call the repository function in the Discharge method, or i'd better call the repository save method outside Discharge method. like: opRepository.Save(sellOpertion); So anyone could give me some advise what are you going to implement in this scenario? using Service class or anything better way?

  • Communication between parent and child

    - by Pierre
    Hi every one ! I have a little problem. I have to code a simple C application that creat a process and his child (fork()) and I have to do an operation. Parent initialize the values and child calculate. I write this : #include #include #include #include #include typedef struct { int op1; char op; int op2; }Operation; Operation *varOP; void finalResult() { float result = 0; if(varOP-op == '+') result = (varOP-op1 + varOP-op2); if(varOP-op == '-') result = (varOP-op1 - varOP-op2); if(varOP-op == '*') result = (varOP-op1 * varOP-op2); if(varOP-op == '+') result = (varOP-op1 / varOP-op2); printf("%f",result); } int main () { int p; varOP = (Operation *)malloc(sizeof(Operation)); p = fork(); if(p == 0) // If child { signal(SIGUSR1, finalResult ); pause(); } if(p 0) // If parent { varOP-op = '+'; varOP-op1 = 2; varOP-op2 = 3; kill(p, SIGUSR1); wait(NULL); } return 0; } But my child is never called. Is there something wrong with my code? Thanks for your help !

  • Can this PHP version of SPICE be improved?

    - by Noctis Skytower
    I do not know much about PHP's standard library of functions and was wondering if the following code can be improved in any way. The implementation should yield the same results, the API should remain as it is, but ways to make is more PHP-ish would be greatly appreciated. This is a custom encryption library. Code <?php /*************************************** Create random major and minor SPICE key. ***************************************/ function crypt_major() { $all = range("\x00", "\xFF"); shuffle($all); $major_key = implode("", $all); return $major_key; } function crypt_minor() { $sample = array(); do { array_push($sample, 0, 1, 2, 3); } while (count($sample) != 256); shuffle($sample); $list = array(); for ($index = 0; $index < 64; $index++) { $b12 = $sample[$index * 4] << 6; $b34 = $sample[$index * 4 + 1] << 4; $b56 = $sample[$index * 4 + 2] << 2; $b78 = $sample[$index * 4 + 3]; array_push($list, $b12 + $b34 + $b56 + $b78); } $minor_key = implode("", array_map("chr", $list)); return $minor_key; } /*************************************** Create the SPICE key via the given name. ***************************************/ function named_major($name) { srand(crc32($name)); return crypt_major(); } function named_minor($name) { srand(crc32($name)); return crypt_minor(); } /*************************************** Check validity for major and minor keys. ***************************************/ function _check_major($key) { if (is_string($key) && strlen($key) == 256) { foreach (range("\x00", "\xFF") as $char) { if (substr_count($key, $char) == 0) { return FALSE; } } return TRUE; } return FALSE; } function _check_minor($key) { if (is_string($key) && strlen($key) == 64) { $indexs = array(); foreach (array_map("ord", str_split($key)) as $byte) { foreach (range(6, 0, 2) as $shift) { array_push($indexs, ($byte >> $shift) & 3); } } $dict = array_count_values($indexs); foreach (range(0, 3) as $index) { if ($dict[$index] != 64) { return FALSE; } } return TRUE; } return FALSE; } /*************************************** Create encode maps for encode functions. ***************************************/ function _encode_map_1($major) { return array_map("ord", str_split($major)); } function _encode_map_2($minor) { $map_2 = array(array(), array(), array(), array()); $list = array(); foreach (array_map("ord", str_split($minor)) as $byte) { foreach (range(6, 0, 2) as $shift) { array_push($list, ($byte >> $shift) & 3); } } for ($byte = 0; $byte < 256; $byte++) { array_push($map_2[$list[$byte]], chr($byte)); } return $map_2; } /*************************************** Create decode maps for decode functions. ***************************************/ function _decode_map_1($minor) { $map_1 = array(); foreach (array_map("ord", str_split($minor)) as $byte) { foreach (range(6, 0, 2) as $shift) { array_push($map_1, ($byte >> $shift) & 3); } } return $map_1; }function _decode_map_2($major) { $map_2 = array(); $temp = array_map("ord", str_split($major)); for ($byte = 0; $byte < 256; $byte++) { $map_2[$temp[$byte]] = chr($byte); } return $map_2; } /*************************************** Encrypt or decrypt the string with maps. ***************************************/ function _encode($string, $map_1, $map_2) { $cache = ""; foreach (str_split($string) as $char) { $byte = $map_1[ord($char)]; foreach (range(6, 0, 2) as $shift) { $cache .= $map_2[($byte >> $shift) & 3][mt_rand(0, 63)]; } } return $cache; } function _decode($string, $map_1, $map_2) { $cache = ""; $temp = str_split($string); for ($iter = 0; $iter < strlen($string) / 4; $iter++) { $b12 = $map_1[ord($temp[$iter * 4])] << 6; $b34 = $map_1[ord($temp[$iter * 4 + 1])] << 4; $b56 = $map_1[ord($temp[$iter * 4 + 2])] << 2; $b78 = $map_1[ord($temp[$iter * 4 + 3])]; $cache .= $map_2[$b12 + $b34 + $b56 + $b78]; } return $cache; } /*************************************** This is the public interface for coding. ***************************************/ function encode_string($string, $major, $minor) { if (is_string($string)) { if (_check_major($major) && _check_minor($minor)) { $map_1 = _encode_map_1($major); $map_2 = _encode_map_2($minor); return _encode($string, $map_1, $map_2); } } return FALSE; } function decode_string($string, $major, $minor) { if (is_string($string) && strlen($string) % 4 == 0) { if (_check_major($major) && _check_minor($minor)) { $map_1 = _decode_map_1($minor); $map_2 = _decode_map_2($major); return _decode($string, $map_1, $map_2); } } return FALSE; } ?> This is a sample showing how the code is being used.   • C# Enum Flags Comparison

    - by destructo_gold
    Given the following flags, [Flags] public enum Operations { add = 1, subtract = 2, multiply = 4, divide = 8, eval = 16, } How could I implement an IF condition to perform each operation? In my attempt, the first condition is true for add, eval, which is correct. However the first condition is also true for subtract, eval, which is incorrect. public double Evaluate(double input) { if ((operation & (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) currentResult += input; else if ((operation & (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) currentResult -= input; else currentResult = input; operation = null; return currentResult; } I cannot see what the problem is.

  • Optimal sorting algorithm with modified cost... [closed]

    - by David
    The numbers are in a list that is not sorted and supports only one type of operation. The operation is defined as follows: Given a position i and a position j the operation moves the number at position i to position j without altering the relative order of the other numbers. If i j, the positions of the numbers between positions j and i - 1 increment by 1, otherwise if i < j the positions of the numbers between positions i+1 and j decreases by 1. This operation requires i steps to find a number to move and j steps to locate the position to which you want to move it. Then the number of steps required to move a number of position i to position j is i+j. Design an algorithm that given a list of numbers, determine the optimal(in terms of cost) sequence of moves to rearrange the sequence.

  • SQL dynamic date but fixed time query

    - by Marko Lombardi
    I am trying to write a sql query like the example below, however, I need it to always choose the DateEntered field between the current day's date at 8:00am and the current day's date at 4:00pm. Not sure how to go about this. Can someone please help? SELECT OrderNumber , OrderRelease , HeatNumber , HeatSuffix , Operation , COUNT(Operation) AS [Pieces Out of Tolerance] FROM Alerts WHERE (Mill = 3) AND (DateEntered BETWEEN GetDate '08:00' AND GetDate '16:00') GROUP BY OrderNumber, OrderRelease, HeatNumber, HeatSuffix, Operation

  • Big-O for Eight Year Olds?

    - by Jason Baker
    I'm asking more about what this means to my code. I understand the concepts mathematically, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around what they mean conceptually. For example, if one were to perform an O(1) operation on a data structure, I understand that the amount of operations it has to perform won't grow because there are more items. And an O(n) operation would mean that you would perform a set of operations on each element. Could somebody fill in the blanks here? Like what exactly would an O(n^2) operation do? And what the heck does it mean if an operation is O(n log(n))? And does somebody have to smoke crack to write an O(x!)?

  • C++ is there a difference between assignment inside a pass by value and pass by reference function?

    - by Rémy DAVID
    Is there a difference between foo and bar: class A { Object __o; void foo(Object& o) { __o = o; } void bar(Object o) { __o = o; } } As I understand it, foo performs no copy operation on object o when it is called, and one copy operation for assignment. Bar performs one copy operation on object o when it is called and another one for assignment. So I can more or less say that foo uses 2 times less memory than bar (if o is big enough). Is that correct ? Is it possible that the compiler optimises the bar function to perform only one copy operation on o ? i.e. makes __o pointing on the local copy of argument o instead of creating a new copy?

  • How does one use TrafficStats.incrementOperationCount()?

    - by Dheeraj
    The documentation for TrafficStats.incrementOperationCount() says: Increment count of network operations performed under the given accounting tag. This can be used to derive bytes-per-operation. I want to find the total number of bytes transferred during a particular network operation. Since this API claims to help in deriving bytes-per-operation, can someone help me understand how to use it?

  • Help me understand the code snippet in c#

    - by Benny
    I am reading this blog: Pipes and filters pattern I am confused by this code snippet: public class Pipeline<T> { private readonly List<IOperation<T>> operations = new List<IOperation<T>>(); public Pipeline<T> Register(IOperation<T> operation) { operations.Add(operation); return this; } public void Execute() { IEnumerable<T> current = new List<T>(); foreach (IOperation<T> operation in operations) { current = operation.Execute(current); } IEnumerator<T> enumerator = current.GetEnumerator(); while (enumerator.MoveNext()); } } what is the purpose of this statement: while (enumerator.MoveNext());? seems this code is a noop.

  • Synchronous communication using NSOperationQueue

    - by chip_munks
    I am new to Objective C programming. I have created two threads called add and display using the NSInvocationOperation and added it on to the NSOperationQueue. I make the display thread to run first and then run the add thread. The display thread after printing the "Welcome to display" has to wait for the results to print from the add method. So i have set the waitUntilFinished method. Both the Operations are on the same queue. If i use waitUntilFinished for operations on the same queue there may be a situation for deadlock to happen(from apples developer documentation). Is it so? To wait for particular time interval there is a method called waitUntilDate: But if i need to like this wait(min(100,dmax)); let dmax = 20; How to do i wait for these conditions? It would be much helpful if anyone can explain with an example. EDITED: threadss.h ------------ #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface threadss : NSObject { BOOL m_bRunThread; int a,b,c; NSOperationQueue* queue; NSInvocationOperation* operation; NSInvocationOperation* operation1; NSConditionLock* theConditionLock; } -(void)Thread; -(void)add; -(void)display; @end threadss.m ------------ #import "threadss.h" @implementation threadss -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { queue = [[NSOperationQueue alloc]init]; operation = [[NSInvocationOperation alloc]initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(display) object:nil]; operation1 = [[NSInvocationOperation alloc]initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(add) object:nil]; theConditionLock = [[NSConditionLock alloc]init]; } return self; } -(void)Thread { m_bRunThread = YES; //[operation addDependency:operation1]; if (m_bRunThread) { [queue addOperation:operation]; } //[operation addDependency:operation1]; [queue addOperation:operation1]; //[self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(display) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:YES]; //NSLog(@"I'm going to do the asynchronous communication btwn the threads!!"); //[self add]; //[operation addDependency:self]; sleep(1); [queue release]; [operation release]; //[operation1 release]; } -(void)add { NSLog(@"Going to add a and b!!"); a=1; b=2; c = a + b; NSLog(@"Finished adding!!"); } -(void)display { NSLog(@"Into the display method"); [operation1 waitUntilFinished]; NSLog(@"The Result is:%d",c); } @end main.m ------- #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "threadss.h" int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; threadss* thread = [[threadss alloc]init]; [thread Thread]; [pool drain]; return 0; } This is what i have tried with a sample program. output 2011-06-03 19:40:47.898 threads_NSOperationQueue[3812:1503] Going to add a and b!! 2011-06-03 19:40:47.898 threads_NSOperationQueue[3812:1303] Into the display method 2011-06-03 19:40:47.902 threads_NSOperationQueue[3812:1503] Finished adding!! 2011-06-03 19:40:47.904 threads_NSOperationQueue[3812:1303] The Result is:3 Is the way of invoking the thread is correct. 1.Will there be any deadlock condition? 2.How to do wait(min(100,dmax)) where dmax = 50.

  • javax.crypto AES encryption - Do I only need to call doFinal?

    - by Spines
    I want to do AES CBC encryption in Java. I'm using javax.crypto. After I have the Cipher initialized, do I only need to call doFinal on the clear bytes to properly encrypt it? Or do I need to do something with update? Documentation says update: Continues a multiple-part encryption or decryption operation and doFinal Encrypts or decrypts data in a single-part operation, or finishes a multiple-part operation what exactly do they mean by multiple-part encryption?
