• WUBI installation on Lenovo u310

  I recently installed 12.04 through the WUBI on a Lenovo u310. The installation went fine, but when I rebooted into Windows 7, and then rebooted into Ubuntu, it immediately went to a command line 'grub' prompt. I was able to reboot from there successfully into 12.04 (once) but then on another occasion could do nothing to reboot into Ubuntu, so had to reinstall. The reason I used the WUBI route was that there are troubles in 12.04 recognizing the hard drives on Lenovo u310 on direct install from memory stick. This has been a bit frustrating, and I was surprised by the difficulties on the Lenovo u310.

• Cannot mount Android phone and sync with Banshee

  I can't get my LG Optimus One to sync with Banshee. I read somewhere that the root needs to have an empty file called '.is_audio_player'. I did that and it still doesn't mount. I ran dmesg however and it appears that the card is unmounting before I even have a change to run Banshee.   Is there any direct way do contact a „real” person, an YouTube employer? Someone created an account for the company I work for (previous employer). She entered some password and e-mail. The provided e-mail was valid, but since last login (more than two years), we changed our domain, and this e-mail is probably not valid anymore (and we even don't know it), co we can't use option to reset password. I have used all the options in YouTube help center, and no one worked. Also we can't contact this previous employer to get any data she entered in the registration form. The only data I know is the username. All the movies present the products of our company, there are links to our site in movie descriptions, so there should be no problem to prove that the account is ours. This is an urgent case, becouse the movies contain outdated information.

  how can i move static box2d sprites. i have tried this tutorial from . http://www.raywenderlich.com/475/how-to-create-a-simple-breakout-game-with-box2d-and-cocos2d-tutorial-part-12. I managed to add another "paddle" object with box2d body, but i can seam to be able to make the code to move the second "paddle" body. Can anyone direct me how to do it? Is there a way to move a "b2_staticBody" box 2d object? i have tried, but i can only move it when i use "b2_dynamicBody" if i used "b2_staticBody" i can move it at all.

• How can I get Ubuntu 12.04 to boot on a Gigabyte 990Fx MB (efi problem?)

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on a home made system with a gigabyte 990Fxa MB. I can make it through the install process. It does not boot. Windows 7 does boot on the same machine. Suse 11.4 boots on the same machine. Suse 12.4 does not boot. I think there may be an issue with the EFI / GPT system. I know very little about these systems. I really expected the machine to boot. What can I do to get the system to boot? Please direct me to a path to trouble shoot this problem. thanks Jeffrey

• Packaging a web application for deploying at customer site

  I want to develop a django webapp that would get deployed at the customer site. The web app would run in a private cloud environment (ESX server here) of the customer. My web app would use a mysql database. The problem is I would not have direct access/control of the webapp. My question is, how to package such a web application with it's database and other entities so that it's easier to upgrade/update the app and it's database in future. Right now the idea I have is that I would provide a vm with the django app and database setup. The customer can just start the vm and he would have the webapp running. What are the other options I should consider?

• MPD to play music to single channel of my multi-channel card?

  I installed an Ubuntu 12-04 LTS server for a special background music application of mine, where I am using the server with an Asus Xonar DS sound card. The installation is successful, the MPD is working, the sound card is working with Alsa and its libraries installed accept for Alsa-oss. Alsamixer is working fine with left/right sides of each channel volume control through Q/Z letters shortcut when alsamixer is open in terminal . using the command " speaker-test -Dplug:surround71 -c8 -l1 -twav " I can hear every voice message coming out from the card at the right connector, so "front right/ front left" voice message are coming from first output in the card back, while the other outputs are silent..so on. The problem is that MPD is playing on all outputs simultaneously the same audio. I have been trying various configurations for the last 12 days with out any success, including trying to put mappings in the /etc/asound.conf Can any body help me achieve the above, or direct me to the right configuration of MPD or asound.conf

I've been with the same company for 10 years and we've grown to the size where we really need to lay out a framework for the applications which support our company's business. The organic growth over the last 10 years has left us with a tightly coupled and fairly messy set of applications. We need to do a better job at componentizing our business entities and have more rigorous control on the interfaces between those entities and our business processes. I'm looking to get a broad, yet practical exposure on design patterns to support that architecture (SOA, messaging, ESB's etc).   Everytime I change the OS I usually format my laptop. It is an HP tx-2 Touchsmart. It has a touchscreen and additional hardware that isn't working (i.e. volume control buttons and the network discovery) If I was on windows I would just download the hardware drivers from the HP website. How do I go about installing the software for the built-in hardware of my laptop? • Best way to find freelance c# developer

  I am a developer based in London developing a desktop WPF business application using c# (+ MVVM/DDD/Nhibernate/Unity/Postsharp...). I need to find someone to review my code to suggest improvements and then to write integration tests. This could potentially be an ongoing relationship, expanding into writing new features etc. It would suit an experienced developer with a strong interest in design principles and writing clean code, who can work part time. However, the developer would need to work at my home based office (although timing is flexible). Websites such as elance and odesk seem to tie you in, and I would prefer to pay a one off introduction fee and then deal with the developer direct. Stack exchange seems quite expensive but is a possibility if I don't find an alternative. So, are there any other websites I can try?

  I just took over the webmaster position in my organization, and I'm trying to set up a development environment separate from the production environment. The two environments are hosted with different companies, both on shared hosting plans. Right now, production is at domain.com and development is at domain2.com What I want is to direct my development team to dev.domain.com More importantly, I don't want the URL to change from dev.domain.com back to domain2.com, but I also be responsive to page changes. For example, if my dev team navigates from dev.domain.com to a page (called "page"), I'd like the URL to show as dev.domain.com/page Is this possible, or am I just dreaming?

• Should I index my mobile duplicate of my desktop website on google?

  I have a duplicate of http://he.thenamestork.com with the url http://he.thenamestork.com/mobile - all files are duplicated while the mobile version has a slightly different content. Notice that when I write 'mobile' I only mean regular HTML4 with smartphone friendly CSS. I have a series of redirects (using .htaccess) that allows smartphone users land directly on the mobile versions. But I wonder, shound I index the mobile version as well so those users will be able to get direct, faster links? And what is the proper way of doing that without causing problem in google search? I guess I'm asking if there's a way to get google display regular urls for desktop users and ../mobile/.. urls for smartphone users, and if it is smart SEOwise.

  No clue on a title for this, someone feel free to suggest an edit. I have a client that has a website. He owns around 200 domains, and wants each domain to contain content from the main website. The header, footer, and navigation bars will remain the same for each domain, but the actual page content will vary (obviously duplicate content issues, open to suggestions) He wants each individual page to be its own separate domain, rather than a url within the main domain. (page1.com page2.com etc - NOT site.com/page1.html, however the file is actually hosted at site.com/page1.html - all links will direct to site.com/whatever accordingly) What would be the best place to start reading / learning on how to do this, and what concerns/considerations should be taken into mind?

• Game Patching Mac/PC

  Just wondering what types of solutions are available to handle patching of PC/Mac games that don't have any sort of auto updater built into them. In windows do you just spin off some sort of new install shield for the game that includes the updated files, hope you can read a valid registry key to point to the right directory, and overwrite files? If so how does that translate over to Mac where the game is normally just distributed as straight up .app file? Is there a better approach than the above for an already released product? (Assuming direct sells, and not through a marketplace that features auto-updating like Steam.) Are there any off the shelf auto-updater type libraries that could also be easily integrated with a C/C++ code base even after a game has been shipped to make this a lot simpler, and that are cross platform? Also how do auto-updaters work with new OS's that want applications and files digitally signed?

• Is it possible to stream music/video from an Apache server?

  I'm just starting to get into setting up a server. I've set up a basic Apache server to access some songs and movies. When I click one of the songs though, nothing happens. When I click one of the movies, sometimes it will open a new web page and act as though it is going to start playing, but never does. I know Apache is HTTP, not FTP and read somewhere that that could be a problem, but I'm uncertain of the differences. Anyway, is it possible to click on one of the songs and have it start streaming using, for example, Windows Media Player? If so, might someone either explain how to do so or direct me to where I can find it? Any information on retrieving media from an Apache server at this point would be most appreciated. -Edit- I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Windows 7 and Google Chrome

• Hide folder names or such?

  Okay, I have a cpanel account with unmetered everything (pay a bit per month), so I wanna host my forum on it etc I have the domains as lets say money.com wordpress.com forum.com As I'll have to put everything in different folders for instance money will be in /m/ wordpress /w/ and forum in /forum/ or something. What I'm saying is, how do I hide the file so it'll look like money.com/m/ is actually money.com ?? I need to hide the folder name the contents are in so I can host multiple sites, therefore the site will look like its the only site on the host so I don't have to add a redirect for it to direct it to the folder? • Accessing files in a directory without x-permission?

  I am having a bit of trouble understanding what the execute permission means for directories. Do I understand it correctly that anything in a directory for which a user does not have x-rights is inaccessible even if the things inside the directory gives specific rights to the user? Or will the user still have direct access to the things in the directory, but simply cannot list what is in the directory? (What I am really trying to understand is how safe a directory is from access from other users if they do not have x-permission for it.)

• What is the increase in developer productivity while using Hibernate?

  I was curious to find out the percentage increase in developer's productivity by using Hibernate. We use both Hibernate and NHibernate extensively and find them to be extremely elegant frameworks but haven't undertaken any study to find out the time savings by using them. IMHO, one could get a good 30 to 40% jump in developer productivity as one doesn't have to write the basic CRUD operations and bother about caching. But, are there are any formal case studies which prove that point? I would really appreciate if someone could direct me to a published white paper about some statistics about the productivity gains.

• Tracking referrals between profiles on the same domain in Google Analytics

  I have a website at mydomain.com that uses Analytics. I have a blog that resides at mydomain.com/blog/, which also uses Analytics They are on different profiles. The main site uses something like: _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-6']); While the blog uses: _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-7']); _gaq.push(['_setCookiePath', '/blog/']); My issues is that this seems not to track referrals from the blog through to the main site when, for instance, the logo which links to the main site is clicked. Ideally, I would like the clicks of this logo to report that the source was mydomain.com/blog/, but because they are at the same domain they seem to register as direct traffic. Have I missed a step in my configuration, or will I have to resort to linking to something like mydomain.com?ref=blog? Thank you.
