• Is there a consolidated API reference for the Firefox browser.xul?

  I have used Greasemonkey many times and am stepping up to Firefox extension development. Is there a consolidated reference for the variables, functions, and anything else that is available to overlays on browser.xul? Besides gBrowser, I note from the source that there are at least gNavToolbox, gURLBar, and gNavigatorBundle and would like more information about what services they provide. I have looked through the XUL School and XUL Tutorial on MDN, searched MozillaZine, and browsed the Jetpack documentation without finding anything but references to gBrowser. I have also looked at the code snippets referenced elsewhere (e.g.) and found specifics, but nothing that puts all the information together in one place. Is there such a reference?

• Prevent URLs from specific domains from being saved in Firefox history

  I want to prevent or block URLs of specific domains from being saved or shown in my history. I want to be able to go to these certain websites normally, just not have them saved and not have to use private or incognito mode. For instance, I don't want any of Google's search result pages to be saved in my history since then when I use the awesomebar I get a lot of Google's search results, which are of no use to me. Of course I can keep on deleting them, but I would like a way to specify that any URL starting with www.google.com shouldn't be saved.

  I noticed that the transparent interface in Firefox 4 for Windows 7 is really curbing performance. After Googling for a method to disable Aero for Firefox, however, I got no results. There just doesn't seem to be a straight forward (such as a simple Boolean to turn it off in about:config) method to get rid of Aero effects. Is it even possible in the Firefox 4 beta? I'm using Firefox 4 beta 12 (soon to be beta 13 after the update).

• SEO: Firefox addon/plugin to see Google results with a position number?

  Do you know a Firefox addon that adds postion number to Google/Yahoo results. When I do SEO report for www.some-site.com by keyphrase "some-keyphrase" I usually show results in blocks of 100 results per page. Then uisng browser find box I search for "some-site.com", if found in page I see its position, but I have to count by hand the number of results before (or after) it to know the exact position number. It would be handful a simple addon that adds a number positioning before each result like: 1. Result blah blah Snippet... url 2. Result blah blah Snippet... url etc.

  Some websites I'm using always make the web title move or blink when, for example, a new mail has just arrived. It is really disturbing as it's not an emergency and usually I'm busy browsing other pages. I can't stand it any longer, but I have to use those services. I want to stop this kind of behavior either by installing a new extension or writing a Greasemonkey script. But I can't find one and have no idea about how to detect and stop the JavaScript code.   In which location and file does Firefox save the last windows I had opened (when Firefox crashed)? I have a complete "hot dump" copy of a file system and need to restore the state Firefox was when the system crashed, but I cannot restore the full backup itself. I can only extract the files of Firefox, but I do not know in which files I have to search for the urls that were last opened when the snapshot of the whole file system was done.

• How to get desired FireFox last tab behavior?

  All tabs should be the same; so if any of the have a 'close' button, they all should, including the last tab. I see no reason that a tab's close button should suddenly vanish simply b/c that tab has become the last one open. If I have N tabs open, and park the mouse over the left-most tab's close button, this vanishing close button trick means now I have to make a large mouse move to get to the app's close button. Unsat. Mouse moves = too many milliseconds wasted. Closing the last tab should NOT take me to my home page, or any other page whatsoever. I want the browser to close with the last tab. I do not expect or want "new tab" behavior when I click a Close button. Now, I've gone into about:config and played with browser.tabs.closeWindoWithLastTab, but this setting oversteps its purpose; while it does make the browser close, for some inexplicable reason, it also suppresses the last tab's close button! I have tried the "last tab close button" add-on, and while this does restore the close button, the add-on oversteps by taking the liberty of turning closeWindowWithLastTab off. Is there some way out of this pickle? Is it too hard to just code things to provide simple, orthogonal actions, so that everybody can config the UI to their liking, and not just to a few pre-fab configurations that the developers think everyone should like? I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? • Creating a notification system using a firefox extension

  I am creating a firefox extension that should give a notification when the user hits specific sites. I do not want the same kind of notification that firefox gives for pop-ups. I don't want the user to have to go through the hassle of clicking the X in order to close the notification. Instead, I would like it to look like what happens when a normal firefox download is completed - a notification comes up, and automatically goes after a few seconds. On a mac, it looks like a growl notification, and I love the way it looks. Is there an easy way to implement this feature? Thanks

  I am not interested in accessing the bookmarks menu or sidebar. The specific goal that I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to easily navigate (using only the keyboard) through the live bookmarks loaded from stack overflow by means of a feed reader and located on my bookmarks toolbar. Notes: I have found an add-on that supposedly does exactly what I need: Bookmark Keys, but unfortunately it doesn't work in firefox 3), and is not being currently maintained.   Hello everyone: This is a CSS related question, I got one good answer from my previous question, which suggested to use some CSS code like overflow:auto together with a fixed height container. And here is my actual implementation : on uni server Please follow the instructions on screen and buy more than 4 kinds of tickets. If you are using IE8, Opera, Safari, Chrome, you would notice that the lower right corner of the page now has a vertical scroll bar, which scrolls the content inside it and prevent it from overflowing. That's what I want to have in this section. Now the problem is, this would not do in FireFox 3.6.2. Am I doing something not compliant to the CSS standard or FireFox has its own way of overflow control? You can inspect the elements on screen, and all controlling functions are done in one javascript using jQuery. All CSS code are kept in a separated file as well. According to the professor, FireFox would be the target browser, although the version was set to 2.0...

• AS3 mouseX and mouseY values wrong in Firefox

  Hi there, I'm getting some strange behaviour in my Flash movie, only in Firefox for MAC (3.6.2). Basically, the mouseX and mouseY properties of all display objects become massive numbers: < 100000000. This issue only occurs on Firefox, it is not present when the movie is run standalone, nor when it is run on any other browser. The swf requires Flash Player 10, and is written in AS3. It is also embedded via SWFObject, but I tested using the export code supplied with Flash and verified the issue is still present. Has anybody heard of this? Is it a Flash or Firefox bug? Is it a bug at all? Thanks

• Why is Visual Studio 2008 slow with Firefox?

  I am using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I've made an ASP.NET MVC site which has 6 CSS files and 6 Javascript files in the HEAD element in the Site.Master file. When I do F5 or CTRL-F5 in Explorer or Opera, the site displays instantly. When I run my site in Firefox, it takes a SECOND for each CSS and each Javascript file on LOCALHOST, i.e. 12 seconds to load on localhost. What might I be able to change in the Firefox settings so it is as fast as Opera and Explorer? NEW INFO: Uninstalled Firebug completely, no yslow, no other add-ons. When I take out the CSS and Javascript files, then Firefox is as fast as the other browsers. What could be taking it so long on a local connection?

  When a user logs in to my site, I create a cookie with some info in it. However, whenever they change page from logging in, the cookie loses it's value. Cookie is still there but it's empty. I've checked my code and the cookie doesn't get rewritten by anything I've done. Does anyone have any idea to why the cookie becomes empty when the page is changed?

• Hidden Input Elements in Firefox

  I'm having troubles with fckeditor in Firefox. When the user goes to a page, the html (encoded) is stored in a hidden input element. I call the predefined fckeditor javascript event to populate my editor with the html from the hidden ContentBody element. function FCKeditor_OnComplete( editorInstance ) { editorInstance.InsertHtml(""); var sample = document.getElementById("ContentBody").value; editorInstance.InsertHtml(sample); } This automatically populates the editor with the desired text in IE, but in Firefox it doesn't. Firebug gives me the error : A is null [Break on this error] var FCKW3CRange=function(A){this._Docume...eateFromRange(this._Document,this);}};\r\n Using Firebug I can determine that the event method FCKeditor_OnComplete() just isn't fired when using Firefox. • firefox object height ignored when data

  I have a flash video loading in a modal window. It works in others browsers but not Firefox. Firefox opens the modal window to the correct width of the object, but with no height. I have come to learn that Firefox does not recognize <param> and instead uses the data attribute. However, when I remove this attribute, the modal opens with correct height. What is going on? • Running Java plugin 1.5 on Firefox + Snow Leopard

  I have a Java applet that needs to be able to run on Java 1.5. I have successfully installed Java 1.5 on Snow Leopard and I am able to use it to run applets in Safari by changing the order of the versions in Java Preferences. However, Firefox (3.5.9) doesn't seem to be able to pick up the changes and keeps reverting to using the Java 1.6 plugin. How do I force Firefox to use the Java 1.5 plugin? I tried re-linking the /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK folder to point to my 1.5 directory, but that seems to change the system-level Java runtime, not the Firefox plugin (it opened up the console differently, but inside the console it reported Java plugin 1.6.0).

This has been tested and works in IE, Safari, and Chrome, but not Firefox. Trying to figure out what's wrong in Firefox.
