  • I lost the "global menu bar integration" firefox addon

    I somehow lost the "global menu bar integration" firefox addon. Probably uninstalled it accidentally. I have tried dpkg-reconfigure and also apt-get remove firefox-globalmenu && apt-get install firefox-globalmenu. But neither worked. How do I get the add-on into Firefox addon? I couldn't find an xpi file either, to point firefox manually to it for installation. Edit: Found a fix on my own, see my comment to the answer that was mots helpful :) Thanks everyone for looking into this.

This month’s feature is a follow-up from last month’s Global Perspective note from a well known ACE Director based in EMEA. My first contribution to this blog was before Oracle Open World and I was quite excited about where this initiative would take me in my understanding of the value of Oracle Fusion Middleware. Rimi Bewtra from the Oracle AppAdvantage team came as promised to the Oracle ACE Director briefings and explained what this initiative was all about and I then asked the directors to take part in the new survey. The story was really well received and then at the SOA advisory board that many of these ACE Directors already take part in there was a further discussion on how this initiative will help customers understand the benefits of adoption. A few days later Rick Beers launched the program at a lunch of invited customer executives which included one from Pella who talked about their projects (a quick recap on that here). I wasn’t able to stay for the whole event but what really interested me was that these executives who understood the technology but where looking for how they could use them to drive their businesses. Lots of ideas were bubbling up in my head about how we can use this in user groups to help our members, and the timing was fantastic as just three weeks later we had UKOUG_Apps13, our flagship Applications conference in the UK. We had independently working with Oracle marketing in the UK on an initiative called Apps Transformation to help our members look beyond just the application they use today. We have had a Fusion community page but felt the options open are now much wider than Fusion Applications, there are acquired applications, social, mobility and of course the underlying technology, Oracle Fusion Middleware. I was really pleased to be allowed to give the Oracle AppAdvantage story as a session in our conference and we are planning a special Apps Transformation event in March where I hope the Oracle AppAdvantage team will take part and we will have the results of the survey to discuss. But, life also came full circle for me. In my first post, I talked about Andrew Sutherland and his original theory that Oracle Fusion Middleware adoption had technical drivers. Well, Andrew was a speaker at our event and he gave a potted, tech-talk free update on Oracle Open World. Andrew talked about the Prevailing Technology Winds, and what is driving this today and he talked about that in the past it was the move from simply automating processes (ERP etc), through the altering of those processes (SOA) and onto consolidation. The next drivers are around the need to predict, both faster and more accurately; how to better exploit the information that we have available. He went on to talk about The Nexus of Forces: Social, Mobile, Cloud and Information – harnessing these forces of change with Oracle technology. Gartner really likes this concept and if you want to know more you can get their paper here. All this has made me think, and I hope it will make you too. Technology can help us drive our businesses better and understanding your needs can be the first step on your journey, which was the theme of our event in the UK.     I see many applications which have world-clock map, and I would like to make my own to enhance some of my mobile apps. I wonder if anybody has any knowledge where to start, how to draw a curved shadow representing the dawn and the sunset on the globe.   • Oracle Streamlines Tracking of Global Carbon Footprint and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

    Oracle has automated its global carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions measurement using Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting. By using this solution, Oracle was able to increase organizational efficiency and reduce the need for labor intensive, manual processes in the tracking of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for both voluntary and legislated environmental reporting. The move to Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting enables Oracle to more effectively meet both internal and governmental reporting needs, while addressing the associated economic mandates for reporting emissions and sustainability efforts. Organizations across the company can now record environmental data such as energy consumed or energy generated at facilities or locations within the enterprise, and can automatically calculate corresponding GHG emissions resulting from the use of emission sources. In addition, Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting includes data integration from multiple applications to ensure proper representation and calculation of emissions across the globe.   • Emacs24: emacsclient doesn't use global application menu

    I noticed that Emacs24 makes use of Unity's global application menu. (I'm using Damien Cassou's Emacs24 snapshots.) However, it doesn't do that when emacs, emacsclient or emacsclient.emacs24 are run but just with emacs24. How can I fix that? (Is that a bug? If so, should I file a report in Emacs' or libappmenu's bugtracker?) [EDIT]: As far as I can see this could be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-gtk/+bug/673302 .

  • Hosting server application for global SME

    We are planning to set up a complete ERP and CRM system for a medium-sized global company, that might turn into a essential tool for all locations once deployed. For now these locations include USA, Germany, China and Indonesia, but the list is growing quickly. My question is, where it is best to physically locate the server to ensure the access times are optimal from all (future) locations? On my mind, I am dealing with multiple connected servers (a cloud?), where each of our users is served by the physically closest server. Being in a very competitive field we would also like to rule out, that any data is stored in mainland China... Thanks for any advice and pointers!

    I am in the beginning of programming an iOS app. Having read the Apple guides on how to deal with errors, I got the following most important points: Exceptions are for programmers Use NSError for the user Now, NSError is usually passed as out-argument which can then be used inside and has to be checked by the caller. However, I'm asking myself whether it is a good idea to use a global error handler, say a singleton which wraps around NSError and could be used to trigger errors and error handling from within the called function. Is there anything against that method or would it be a bad practice?

  • Global variable in a Linux shared library

    Suppose we have the following setup under Linux, .so library named "libcnt.so" and 3 user space apps: "app1", "app2", "app3". This library does 1 simple thing, it says to the app (app dynamically links the library at runtime) by how many apps it is already linked. Apps should have access to link counter. My knowledge in C and Linux is somewhat limited in this aspect, but as I understand this information should be stored in a global variable inside the shared object. Something like: in libcnt.h extern int cnt_loads; in libcnt.c int cnt_loads = 0; // where each linking increments this counter or something... So, my question is how it should be declared and/or defined inside .so library to guaranty that multiple apps from user space get the same instance of that variable counter?

    Hi, I am trying to understand how to handle union or merge of two lists that can have duplicates. For example, List1 has { A, B, C} and List2 has { B, C, D }. I tried to use the Union operation and got a new list with values (A, B, C, D}. However, I need the B & C values from the second list, not first one. Is there a way to specify the union method, which duplicate value to use. The code I am using now is var newList = List1.Union<Object>(List2).ToList(); Thanks for any help. Javid

    Hi, Take for example the list (L): John, John, John, John, Jon We are to presume one item is to be correct (e.g. John in this case), and give a probability it is correct. First (and good!) attempt: MostFrequentItem(L).Count / L.Count (e.g. 4/5 or 80% likelihood) But consider the cases: John, John, Jon, Jonny John, John, Jon, Jon I want to consider the likelihood of the correct item being John to be higher in the first list! I know I have to count the SecondMostFrequent Item and compare them. Any ideas? This is really busting my brain! Thx, Andrew

    Hi everyone, inheriting a class attribute from a super class and later changing the value for the subclass works fine: class Unit(object): value = 10 class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.value print Archer.value Archer.value = 5 print Unit.value print Archer.value leads to the output: 10 10 10 5 which is just fine: Archer inherits the value from Unit, but when I change Archer's value, Unit's value remains untouched. Now, if the inherited value is a list, the shallow copy effect strikes and the value of the superclass is also affected: class Unit(object): listvalue = [10] class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Archer.listvalue[0] = 5 print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Output: 10 10 5 5 Is there a way to "deep copy" a list when inheriting it from the super class?   • Bind list from FormView to model in ASP.net webforms

    For a large fillin form I use the asp.net FormView for the magic databinding to my model. In this model I've a property called Rides (shown below), which exposes a list, which I obviously not want to be replaced entirely. So I made it readonly. However, this way I can't use the databinding features anymore.   • ie8 playing funny with list-style-position: inside

    Ok, So problem here... when using list-style-position:inside in IE8 the first like is indented but every line after that is not. So the new lines appear under the bullet. This is fine, but when I use a list with that css applied with an a tag within the li then the text automatically gets pushed to the second line, and the first line is empty. When I remove the a tag from the li then it jumps back up. Any idea on why this might be or is this a bug in the ie8 world or do I just need to double check my css? Any insights would be much appreciated.
