  • What happens to Google contacts in the People app in Windows 8

    In the People tile in Windows 8, you can connect to your different accounts, e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, Google contacts. I have a lot of contact information in Google Contacts that I have carefully curated. I also have Facebook and LinkedIn contacts. I have already connected Facebook and LinkedIn contacts to the People app, and it seems to work ok. If I connect my Google Contacts to the People app too, what exactly will happen to the Google contacts? Will my Google contacts be modified in any way by the People app? Merged? Synced? (I understand that they will look merged in the People app, but I am wondering what will happen to the actual Google contacts, which I often use outside the People app) For instance: If a contact is in Facebook but is missing from Google Contacts, will it be created in Google contacts? If there is a picture for a person in both Facebook and Google Contacts, will the Google Contacts picture be overwritten? If I add a field, such as "Comments" to a contact in the People app, will that comment be written to the comment field for that contact in Google Contacts?

  • Google Contacts/Calendars + Address Book + iCal: built-in sync (problems) or Exchange sync?

    (I've looked at a few other questions related to this, but I've only found old questions with people saying that they're having problems, or anticipating Snow Leopard fixing them; no recent updates.) I'm looking to sync my Google Contacts & Calendars, and Gmail, with my Mac & iPhone. The iPhone I have currently set up thus: IMAP for Mail Exchange (Google Sync) for Contacts & Calendars The Mac: Address Book: built-in sync iCal: CalDAV, configured as a Google account I haven't been syncing Gmail to Apple Mail, because I was having weird IMAP glitches every so often that just got to annoying. Will Exchange / Google Sync work for this at all? Any suggestions there? Here are the other problems I'm having. Address Book only syncs certain fields (for example, Birthdays don't sync at all). I believe this is a list of the information that's synced. Address Book's "Synchronize with Google" checkbox doesn't stay checked when I quit Address Book. I think iCal is working fine, for the most part. Any suggestions on how to improve this setup? Why doesn't Address Book / Google Contacts sync stay enabled? Could I use Exchange for it like I am on the iPhone? Will that sync all the fields, including Birthdays, etc.? Thanks in advance!

  • Is it possible to use Google Docs Viewer to view files already in Google Docs?

    The title is a little confusing. I'll elaborate. As far as I can tell, the Google Docs Viewer tool accepts a link to a raw document file (e.g. .doc, .pdf, et. al.), and renders its contents in the browser. For example, this url to a pdf http://research.google.com/archive/bigtable-osdi06.pdf when passed to Viewer, returns this link: http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fresearch.google.com%2Farchive%2Fbigtable-osdi06.pdf What I'm trying to achieve is, use the Viewer to view a document already hosted in Google Docs (i.e. no longer a raw document file). When passing a link to a Google Docs document to the Viewer, the result is not as expected. It renders the link's HTML source instead of the document's contents. The reason I want to do this is that I want to be able to use the "embed" feature of Viewer to view Google Docs documents. Does Google Docs have a "link to embeddable view" feature? P.S. Here is a sample snippet to an embedded document. 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); So if you wanna have a quick peak at the site the url is ApartmentJunkie.com, keep in mind the site is pretty bare bones but you'll get the idea -- basically it's very similar to craigslist in the sense that it's in the local space so people pick a city then get sent to a subdomain that is specific for that city, e.g. winnipeg.mb.apartmentjunkie.com. I put that up late last night then had a look at the analytics and found that I am seeing only the request uri portion of the URLs in analytics as I would with any other site only with this one it's a problem as winnipeg.mb.apartmentjunkie.com/map/ and brandon.mb.apartmentjunkie.com/map/ are two different pages and shouldn't be lumped together as /map/ I know the kneejerk response is likely going to be "hey just setup a different google analytics profile for each subdomain" but there will eventually be a lot of subdomains so google's cap of 50 is going to be too limited and even more important I want to see the data in aggregate for the most part. I am thinking of making a change to the javascript, to something like: _gaq.push(['_trackPageview',String(document.domain) + String(document.location)]); But am unsure if this is the best way and figured someone else on wm.se would have had a similar situation that they could talk a bit about.

  • Google Contacts API - No Redirection

    Hello there, I am currently working on Contact Importer web app (in PHP) so I will be able to grab email address from a user's account on Gmail, Yahoo, etc and use them for my own evil purposes. Just kidding, my web app is very friendly. I thought I would start with Google. I found they have a fantastic little API called Google Contacts API which lets a programmer, like myself, to access a user's contacts. After a couple of hours of struggling and throwing shitty code together, I ran into a few road-blocks. My main question is this: Is there any way that I can have a user provide their username and password for Gmail on my website and have my code retrieve the contacts without that nasty redirection to a Google login page? It's kind of ruins the whole flow of my web app. I've looked into AuthSub, and gotten that to work, but of course the catch is that you have to redirect the user to obtain the access token. It looks like OAuth will have this same catch. The one ray of hope I have is the ClientLogin method of authentication. Again, there is a catch, sometimes Google throws you a CAPTCHA instead of the auth token. Again, the user flow is ruined. I've noticed that our good ol' friends over at Twitter have it working just fine. Does anyone know how they do it? Thanks!

  • Google Maps v3 - Adding makers results in duplicate markers

    Hi guys, I'm having some problems with Google Maps v3. I have an event listener on "bounds_change" that adds all accommodations(markers) within the active bounds. When i move the map slightly, the same markers are added again because they are located in the bounds. So every time I move the map, duplicate markers are added. How can I make sure these markers stay unique? Thanks!! Richard

    The API documentation gave me hopes last night with "bindInfoWindowHtml". But it doesn't seem to replace the default infoWindow, even when you provide your own class etc. I have tried using other ideas like the labeledmarker. But it doesn't support draggable markers. Hence can't use it in my application. Here is the sample code which shows the info. window inside, the original bubble. I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth. Is there a style guide or method that I should be using?     Okay, hope you can help med here :) I have been searching everywhere to figure this out, but haven't had any luck. I know about Annotations and how to overlay them on a map on the iPhone. But what if I have location like in the forest where there arent any roads or anything. What I am asking is, how can I overlay a custom image (map) over the Map view so that it zooms the right way like the map, in the right scale, and can I add my own annotations on top of the custom image/map? Hop I was clear enough on what I am trying to do?

  • How to improve performance of map that loads new overlay images

    I have inherited a website to maintain that uses a html map overlaying a real map to link specific countries to specific pages. previously it loaded the default map image, then with some javascript it would change the image src to an image with that particular country in a different colour on mouseover and reset the image source back to the original image on mouse out to make maintenance (adding new countries) easier i made the initial map a background image by utilising some CSS for the div tag, and then created new images for each country which only had that countries hightlight so that the images remain fairly small. this works great but theres one issue which is particularly noticeable on slower internet connections when you hover over a country if you dont have the image file in your browser cache or downloaded it wont load the image unless you hover over another country and then back onto the first country - i guess this is due to the image having to manually be downloaded on first hover. My question: is it possible to force the load of these extra images AFTER the page and all the other assets have finished loading so that this behaviour is all but eliminated? the html code for the MAP is as follows: <div class="gtmap"><img id="Image-Maps_6200909211657061" src="<?php echo cdnhttpsCheck();     In Ruby on Rails, routes.rb, if we create a "named route" map.something ":a/:b", :controller => 'foobar' it will also create something_path and something_url which are two methods usable in the controller and in the view. Does map.connect create something like that too? Otherwise, isn't map.connect somewhat disadvantaged in this way? I checked that connect_path and connect_url both aren't created automatically.

    Hi, I am using Silverlight 3 and I am trying to take a screenshot of esri map. I was able to take a screenshot and save as a file for silverlight controls, but when I try to access Esri map image, I get "Pixel access not allowed" error. I heard this is because of different domain (I am trying to get map image on the client side, and map image is not accessible at server side in my silverlight application). So I am trying to find a function from esri so that I can save the map image as a file. does anybody know how to do this? or any other way around?

    I have been writing a desktop application that uses the Google Drive API v2. I have the following code: var credential = GoogleWebAuthorizationBroker.AuthorizeAsync ( new ClientSecrets { ClientId = ClientID, ClientSecret = ClientSecret }, new[] { DriveService.Scope.Drive }, "user", CancellationToken.None ) .Result; this.Service = new DriveService( new BaseClientService.Initializer() { HttpClientInitializer = credential, ApplicationName = "My Test App", } ); var request = this.Service.Files.List(); request.Q = "title = 'foo' and trashed = false"; var result = request.Execute(); The first time I ran this code it opened a browser and asked me to grant permissions to the App, which I did. Everything worked successfully until I realized I was using the wrong Google account. At that point I logged into the wrong Google account and revoked access to my App. Now, whenever I run the same code it throws an exception: Error:"invalid_grant", Description:"", Uri:"" When I examine the service and request objects, it looks like the oauth_token isn't getting created any more. I know what I did to mess things up, but I can't figure out how to correct it so I can use a different Google account for testing. What do I need to do?
