  • Ruby on Rails (Redmine) on Apache - 503 Error

    I am running a Ruby on Rails application called Redmine. It's been working fine, but today it's giving a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error. (It was initially set up by an employee who is now gone.) I check the error log and it says: [Mon Nov 21 11:03:30 2011] [error] (111)Connection refused: proxy: HTTP: attempt to connect to 127.0.0.1:3000 (127.0.0.1) failed [Mon Nov 21 11:03:30 2011] [error] ap_proxy_connect_backend disabling worker for (127.0.0.1) Here's a chunk of my Apache config <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName redmine.{domain}.com RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ balancer://redminecluster%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L] </VirtualHost> <Proxy balancer://redminecluster> BalancerMember http://127.0.0.1:3000 </Proxy> I found this link: http://www.redmine.org/boards/2/topics/20561 which suggests I simply need to "start the redmine server." I've tried /etc/init.d/redmine start which gives me this output => Booting Mongrel => Rails 2.3.11 application starting on http://0.0.0.0:3000 The contents of /etc/init.d/redmine: cd /var/redmine sudo ruby script/server -d -e production One thing I immediately notice is that it says 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1. In addition, running top or ps -ef shows no record of a "mongrel" or "redmine" process. I've also tried restarting Apache before and after starting redmine. Not sure where to go from here.

Event Viewer is recording A LOT of these errors (sometimes 13, one after the other!). Do I need to worry? What does this error mean? What device could "\Device\Ide\IdePort1" be? What is a ATAPI Error? Do I need to re-install Windows? I generally find the occurs when I try to backup my machine (using Windows Backup) or when using a program that uses Volume Shadow Copy. I have run "sfc", no problems. There are no Device Errors in Device Manager. I have also run "vssadmin list writers", no problems. Whats going on??? Would it be a good idea to re-install Windows 7?

  • Windows XP error message: "Windows cannot find 'explorer.exe'"

    In Windows XP I can open "My Computer" and see all the hard drives. I can also see the explorer.exe process running among other processes in Task Manager. But after opening "My Computer", when I double click on one of the drives to open it, I get the following error message: Windows cannot find 'explorer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search. Although I could detect and remove several suspicious files using Malwarebytes & Microsoft Security Essentials, the problem still remains. The interesting point is that if I right click on one folder and select Open or Explore from the menu bar, I can open the folder! but if I double click on the folder, it does not open and I get the above error message. How can I fix this problem? Any advice would be appreciated! Update: I formatted the C: drive (NTFS), a deep format, and installed a fresh Windows XP on it. I am not getting this error when I double click on C drive icon anymore. But the same error appears when I double click on other drive names. Maybe I should format them too!

  • PHP displays blank white page even with all error reporting enabled

    I am trying to debug a broken page in a Drupal application and am having a hard time getting PHP to spit anything useful out. I have the following set: error_reporting = E_ALL display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On log_errors = On error_log = /var/log/php/php_error.log I have a file showing me phpinfo() which confirms these variables are set correctly for the environment. I have increased memory_limit to 256M (which should be more than enough). Yet, the only indication I get is a status 500 code in the apache access log and a blank white page from PHP.   • How to show useful error messages from a database error callback in Phonegap?

    Using Phonegap you can set a function to be called back if the whole database transaction or the individual SQL statement errors. I'd like to know how to get more information about the error. I have one generic error-handling function, and lots of different SELECTs or INSERTs that may trigger it. How can I tell which one was at fault? It is not always obvious from the error message. I read that .code can have the following values: UNKNOWN_ERR = 0 DATABASE_ERR = 1 VERSION_ERR = 2 TOO_LARGE_ERR = 3 QUOTA_ERR = 4 SYNTAX_ERR = 5 CONSTRAINT_ERR = 6 TIMEOUT_ERR = 7 Are there any other properties/methods of the error object? What are the properties/methods of the transaction object at this point? I can't seem to find a good online reference for this. Certainly not on the Phonegap website!

  • 412 Precodition Failed error only occurs on certain networks

    One of my favorite websites: http://jessiejofficial.com (yes, I'm a Jessie J Fan :')) has recently started displaying the error message "412 Precondition Failed" whenever I visit it from my home network, even when I use Tor Browser. At first I thought that this was an issue with the whole website, however I have contacted the web developer and he has said that they has been plenty of hits within the last 48 hours. Plus, I discovered tonight that I can access the website from my phone, through the mobile network. So it appears to just be my network as all of the devices in my house connected to the WiFi display the same error when I try to visit any page of the site. However there have been no changes that we are aware of or are noticeable to our network since the website was accessible, and I have just heard that another person in a different part of the country is experiencing the same difficulties also. Any help/advice/suggestions would be appreciated greatly Update: When trying to ping 'jessiejofficial.com' in Windows command prompt the request times out on all four attempts, on any computer connected to the wireless network. I can now also confirm that the same thing occurs on my MacBook Pro.

    If you have not read my SQL SERVER – Simple Example to Configure Resource Governor – Introduction to Resource Governor yesterday’s detailed primer on Resource Governor, I suggest you go ahead and read it before continuing this article. After reading the article the very first email I received was as follows: “Pinal, I configured resource governor on my development server and it worked fine with tests I ran. After doing some tests, I decided to remove the resource governor and as a first step I disabled it however, I was not able to drop the classification function during the process of the clean up. It was continuously giving me following error. Msg 10920, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot drop user-defined function myudfname. It is being used as a resource governor classifier. Would you please give me solution?” The original email was really this short and there is no other information. I am glad he has done experiments on development server and not on the production server. Production server must not be the playground of the experiments. I think I have covered the answer of this error in an earlier blog post. If the user disables the Resource Governor it is still not possible to drop the function because it can be enabled again and when enabled it can still use the same function. Here is the simple resolution of the how one can drop the classifier function (do this only if you are not going to use the function). The reason the classifier function can’t be dropped because it is associated with resource governor. Create a new classified function for your resource governor or just assign NULL as described in the following T-SQL Script and you will be able to drop the function without error. ALTER RESOURCE GOVERNOR WITH (CLASSIFIER_FUNCTION = NULL) GO ALTER RESOURCE GOVERNOR DISABLE GO DROP FUNCTION dbo.UDFClassifier GO I am glad that user asked me question instead of doing something radically different, which can leave the server in the unusable state. I am aware of this only method to avoid this error. Is there any better way to achieve the same?     Earlier I wrote a blog post about how to resolve the error with database diagram. Today I faced the same error when I was dealing with a database which is upgraded from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2. When I was searching for the solution online I ended up on my own earlier solution SQL SERVER – ERROR: FIX – Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. I really found it interesting that I ended up on my own solution. However, the solution to the problem this time was a bit different. Let us see how we can resolve the same. Error: Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects. Workaround / Fix / Solution : Follow the steps listed below and it should for sure solve your problem. (NOTE: Please try this for the databases upgraded from previous version. For everybody else you should just follow the steps mentioned here.) Select your database >> Right Click >> Select Properties Go to the Options In the Dropdown at right labeled “Compatibility Level” choose “SQL Server 2005(90)” Select FILE in left side of page In the OWNER box, select button which has three dots (…) in it Now select user ‘sa’ or NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and click OK. This will solve your problem. However, there is one very important note you must consider. When you change any database owner, there are always security related implications. I suggest you check your security policies before changing authorization. I did this to quickly solve my problem on my development server. If you are on production server, you may open yourself to potential security compromise.     Everybody was beginner once and I always like to get involved in the questions from beginners. There is a big difference between the question from beginner and question from advanced user. I have noticed that if an advanced user gets an error, they usually need just a small hint to resolve the problem. However, when a beginner gets error he sometimes sits on the error for a long time as he/she has no idea about how to solve the problem as well have no idea regarding what is the capability of the product. I recently received a very novice level question. When I received the problem I quickly see how the user was stuck. When I replied him with the solution, he wrote a long email explaining how he was not able to solve the problem. He thanked multiple times in the email. This whole thing inspired me to write this quick blog post. I have modified the user’s question to match the code with AdventureWorks as well simplified so it contains the core content which I wanted to discuss. Problem Statement: Find all the details of SalesOrderHeaders for the latest ShipDate. He comes up with following T-SQL Query: SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] WHERE ShipDate = MAX(ShipDate) GO When he executed above script it gave him following error: Msg 147, Level 15, State 1, Line 3 An aggregate may not appear in the WHERE clause unless it is in a subquery contained in a HAVING clause or a select list, and the column being aggregated is an outer reference. He was not able to resolve this problem, even though the solution was given in the query description itself. Due to lack of experience he came up with another version of above query based on the error message. SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] HAVING ShipDate = MAX(ShipDate) GO When he ran above query it produced another error. Msg 8121, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Column ‘Sales.SalesOrderHeader.ShipDate’ is invalid in the HAVING clause because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. What he wanted actually was the SalesOrderHeader all the Sales shipped on the last day. Based on the problem statement what the right solution is as following, which does not generate error. SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] WHERE ShipDate = (SELECT MAX(ShipDate) FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader]) Well, that’s it! Very simple. With SQL Server there are always multiple solution to a single problem. Is there any other solution available to the problem stated? Please share in the comment.     I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on this server. I had PHP 5.2 installed via the package manager. I removed it to install PHP 5.3.1 by hand. I built the packages like so ./configure --prefix=/opt/php --with-mysql --with-curl=/usr/bin --with-apxs2=/usr/bin/apxs2 make make install This installed PHP 5.3.1 in /opt/php/ $ php -v PHP 5.3.1 (cli) (built: Dec 7 2009 10:51:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 Zend Technologies However, when I try to start Apache I get this. # /etc/init.d/apache2 restart * Restarting web server apache2 apache2: Syntax error on line 185 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so: undefined symbol: OnUpdateLong [fail] Any ideas what's causing this error? All the references I can see have to do with building php5 packages for php4 or the like. PHP4 has never been installed on this machine.

    I am using Fedora 12, with kernel stv-fedora 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686 I have install VirtualBox OSE v3.1.4-1.fc12. When I start VirtualBox I get the following error: Failed to start the virtual machine WinXP32. Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND). One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older version of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND). However, if I run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup I get this error: -bash: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv: No such file or directory How do I get rid of the error and run VirtualBox?

    I am using Windows 7 and I installed Red 5 0.9.1 just recently. After it installed I put 127.0.0.1 as the IP adress and 5080 as http port. After I start the service in windows I try to connect to the localhost in firefox (http://localhost:5080) and get this error An error occurred during a connection to localhost:5080. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long) I checked my global flash settings and allowed localhost to pass along with the Red 5 folder in C/programfiles/red5. I currently have the up to date versions of JDK and JRE also. Any tips on what might be wrong?

    So today I was trying to copy a simple .PDF file from a local folder on my machine to a network folder and every time I tried to move the file I would get an error dialog box which would state that I was passing a wrong parameter and give me the error code of 8x90070057. Does anyone know of a way to work around this error so that I can get this file copied? I have tried renaming the file with an underscore in front. I have tried copying from my local folder to my desktop and then to the remote folder. I have tried hunting down anything that might be using the file. An example of the file name is: Flowers & Trees.pdf

    As a relative newbie in the Java world, I am finding many things frustratingly obtuse to accomplish that are relatively trivial in many other frameworks. A primary example is a simple solution for asynchronous http requests. Seeing as one doesn't seem to already exist, what is the best approach? Creating my own threads using a blocking type lib like httpclient or the built-in java http stuff, or should I use the newer non-blocking io java stuff - it seems particularly complex for something which should be simple. What I am looking for is something easy to use from a developer point of view - something similar to URLLoader in AS3 - where you simply create a URLRequest - attach a bunch of event handlers to handle the completion, errors, progress, etc, and call a method to fire it off.   • HTTP requests and Apache modules: Creative attack vectors

    Slightly unorthodox question here: I'm currently trying to break an Apache with a handful of custom modules. What spawned the testing is that Apache internally forwards requests that it considers too large (e.g. 1 MB trash) to modules hooked in appropriately, forcing them to deal with the garbage data - and lack of handling in the custom modules caused Apache in its entirety to go up in flames. Ouch, ouch, ouch. That particular issue was fortunately fixed, but the question's arisen whether or not there may be other similar vulnerabilities. Right now I have a tool at my disposal that lets me send a raw HTTP request to the server (or rather, raw data through an established TCP connection that could be interpreted as an HTTP request if it followed the form of one, e.g. "GET ...") and I'm trying to come up with other ideas. (TCP-level attacks like Slowloris and Nkiller2 are not my focus at the moment.) Does anyone have a few nice ideas how to confuse the server and/or its modules to the point of self-immolation? Broken UTF-8? (Though I doubt Apache cares about encoding - I imagine it just juggles raw bytes.) Stuff that is only barely too long, followed by a 0-byte, followed by junk? et cetera I don't consider myself a very good tester (I'm doing this by necessity and lack of manpower; I unfortunately don't even have a more than basic grasp of Apache internals that would help me along), which is why I'm hoping for an insightful response or two or three. Maybe some of you have done some similar testing for your own projects? (If stackoverflow is not the right place for this question, I apologise. Not sure where else to put it.)

I've tried manually adding the headers to the request, as well as using the setRemoteCredentials() method to set them, to no avail.   • HTTP POST prarameters order / REST urls

    Let's say that I'm uploading a large file via a POST HTTP request. Let's also say that I have another parameter (other than the file) that names the resource which the file is updating. The resource cannot be not part of the URL the way you can do it with REST (e.g. foo.com/bar/123). Let's say this is due to a combination of technical and political reasons. The server needs to ignore the file if the resource name is invalid or, say, the IP address and/or the logged in user are not authorized to update the resource. Looks like, if this POST came from an HTML form that contains the resource name first and file field second, for most (all?) browsers, this order is preserved in the POST request. But it would be naive to fully rely on that, no? In other words the order of HTTP parameters is insignificant and a client is free to construct the POST in any order. Isn't that true? Which means that, at least in theory, the server may end up storing the whole large file before it can deny the request. It seems to me that this is a clear case where RESTful urls have an advantage, since you don't have to look at the POST content to perform certain authorization/error checking on the request. Do you agree? What are your thoughts, experiences?

  • Apache HTTP and WEblogic Plug-in Location Directive question

    All, We are using Weblogic Portal and Apache 2.x http server with the weblogic plug-in for apache for load-balancing. We have an application that right now can only be accessed from one of our managed servers. What I would like to do is us the Location directive to direct all requests for that page to the one managed server and I can't get it to work. The context that the portal tries to forward to is something like /MyWebApp?portalusername= (where equals a legitimate user. For example /MyWebApp?portalusername=joesmith All other applications and the plug-in is load balancing as expected because every now and then you'll get sent to teh second managed server for this particular application and its not deployed. I tried various things in the apache http.conf like the following but can't seem to get it work? Any suggestions?
