  • Which kerberos flavor?

    So I'm setting up a small network with all the standard stuff (files, email, etc.) and I've decided to go with a Kerberos+LDAP solution. Any ideas or recommendations on Heimdal vs. MIT? I've used MIT before, and tangentially Heimdal, but I don't really know of any real reason for using one over the other. I just know that I'd prefer not to realize I'd rather be running MIT after getting the whole Heimdal up and running with a full user database. If any other info'd be useful, I'm happy to provide.

  • How would I modify this ffmpeg command to include 4 videos?

    Say I had 4 videos with the following names: Main Video.mov Top Left.mov Top Right.mov Top Mid.mov and I wanted to have "Main Video" play with a picture in picture effect with boxes of videos playing in the top left, top right and top mid. Each box would have the video that is similarly named. This command will do picture in picture for 2 videos, with one video in the lower right. ffmpeg -i 2013-07-31\ 231548.MOV -vf "movie=2013-07-31\ 231722.MOV, scale=iw/5:ih/5 [small]; [in][small] overlay=main_w*0.77:main_h*0.77 [out]" -strict -2 output.mov Can someone help me update this command to work with the 4 files I mentioned above?   • Postfix does not work after setting server hostname from plesk

    I have recently set my server hostname from localhost.localdomain to xx.mydomain.com from the plesk control panel. However after doing this change postfix has stopped working, I tried restarting and regenerating the config files but to no avail. I am not familiar with postfix but I believe there is a setting to be changed in main.cf. Here are the relevant errors I receive: postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system postfix/master: daemon started -- version 2.8.4, configuration /etc/postfix postfix/cleanup: fatal: host/service localhost/12768 not found: Name or service not known postfix/pickup: warning: maildrop/E5559996219: error writing 4FA2C996217: queue file write error postfix/master: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/cleanup pid 15334 exit status 1 postfix/master: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/cleanup: bad command startup -- throttling Any ideas? EDIT Setting it back to localhost.localdomain makes it work again. The only references to localhost/12768 I can find in main.cf are: smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 Should something be changed here? These two lines stay the same when I change the hostname. EDIT If I comment out the two mail filter lines (the ones shown above) and restart, postfix works with the new hostname. However this is obviously not the ideal solution...

    After issued command to stop pptpd, the pptpd won't stop until all the VPN client has disconnected.     I'm trying to setup a bash process for deploying my django project onto a linux server. Through cygwin, I'm running a script that is calling scp to copy my files over. Is there a similar command to delete *.pyc files. As of now, I've only been able to accomplish this locally after using ssh with: find . -name "*.pyc" -exec rm -rf {} \; I'm looking for some kind of command to call remotely that would be equivalent.

  • Can I set a default domain for a Windows Authenticated website in IIS7?

    I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter: User: domain\username Pass: SomePassword It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway. This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.

  • Exchange 2010 periodically stops responding to SMTP events with error 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out

    After some help diagnosing why Exchange 2010 Enterprise stops responding to SMTP events. I can't find a pattern to it. It doesn't appear to be an actual timeout, as the server responds immediately with the error. To reproduce it I telnet into the server on port 25 and issue a EHLO. The server immediately replies with the 421: 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out Once this starts happening I've found restarting the exchange box is the only reliable way to get it flowing again. Sometimes restarting the Transport service or the mailbox attendant service seems to fix it, but this could be coincidental as it often has no effect.

  • Outlook 2003 drafts folder missing

    I have a user who has managed to hide her drafts folder in outlook 2003. I have found the following code that works in Outlook 2007, but not Outlook 2003, and I would like to refrain from using 3rd party programs. I did find an article describing how you can retrieve it with a program called MFCMAPI, but I was wondering if there are any other solutions as how to solve it (without reinstalling Outlook)? The mailbox is located on an exchange server and she also has the issue on several computers. However, our exchange guy says that there is nothing wrong with the server. Unfortunately I do not know how it went missing...

  • controlling how UltraVNC handles ALT+TAB

    Most of the time it ignores it and I am able to switch away from UltraVNC to another application. I like this behavior. However, occasionally it gets into a mode where - for no discernable reason - it passes the Alt+Tab to the remote host which is incredibly annoying as I am used to the other behavior and suddenly I have no keyboard shortcut to switch to a different local windows. Since it appears to exhibit both behaviors, I assume there is some way to control which behavior is in use, but I haven't been able to find it

    Hi, I am trying to install skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.91-1.i386.deb on ubuntu 8.04: But in the Package installer, I get 'Error Dependency is not satisfiable: libascound2'. And I have tried. $ sudo apt-get install libasound2 [sudo] password for novarra: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done libasound2 is already the newest version. The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: linux-headers-2.6.24-24-generic libdns35 linux-headers-2.6.24-24 Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.   • Can't import contacts into Outlook from Excel

    I run MS Office 2010. I have all contacts from a previous Outlook 2010 saved in an Excel sheet. I have tried dozens of time to import, but when Outlooks is supposed to do the mapping of the columns I only have one column in my CSV-file: firstname;middlename;surname, etc. It means I cannot map the data correctly. I have tried saving in MS-DOS and Tab and it does not get better. I have tried saving on another computer and it does help either. ALso tried importing to Gmail with same result. Can anyone help?

  • Problems with connecting Thunderbird client to dovecot installed on Ubuntu

    I am trying to connect a Thunderbird client to my dovecot server. The dovecot is installed on Ubuntu. I know that my server works (at least partially), since when I send a mail to a user in the server ([email protected]), I see the new file created in /home/feedback/Maildir/new. However, when I try to connect with my Thunderbird to the server, It recognizes the server, but informs me that my user/password is wrong (they are not wrong). The exact message is: Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?     We're running SQL Server 2000. In our database, we have an "Orders" table with approximately 750,000 rows. We can perform simple SELECT statements on this table. However, when we want to run a query like SELECT TOP 100 * FROM Orders ORDER BY Date_Ordered DESC, we receive the following message: Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 6 The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space. We have other tables in our database which are similar in size of the amount of records that are in the tables (i.e. 700,000 records). On these tables, we can run any queries we'd like and we never receive a message about 'tempdb being full'. To resolve this, we've backed up our database, shrunk the actual database and also shrunk the database and files in the tempdb system database, but this hasn't resolved the issue. The size of our log file is set to autogrow. We're not sure where to go next. Are there any ideas why we still might be receiving this message?   • How can I work around problems with certificate configuration in Remote Desktop Services?

    I am setting up a Remote Desktop Services farm, and am having trouble configuring certificates for it to use. A demonstration of the problem I'm seeing can be found in Step #4. At this point I am convinced that there are problems with the user interface, and am looking for ways around them. Is there any way to configure certificates in Remote Desktop Services so that the settings hold and are reflected in the GUI? If not, is there any way for me to verify that the settings are correct? Step #1 - Create certificate to be used. I've configured a certificate to use with RD Web Access. The certificate is stored with in the Certificates MMC on my RD Connection Broker, and I am configuring the farm from that computer. I found by letting RD Web Access generate its own certificate that the following properties are required: Enhanced Key Usage Server Authentication Client Authentication This may not be required, but the self-signed certificate includes it. Key Usage Digital Signature Key Agreement Subject Alternative Name DNS Name=domain.com Detour about self-signed certificate generation As a quick detour, I was able to work around a problem with creating self-signed certificates using powershell. The documentation for the New-RDCertificate cmdlet gives the following example: PS C:\> $password = ConvertTo-SecureString -string "password" -asplaintext -force New-RDCertificate -Role RDWebAccess -DnsName "test-rdwa.contoso.com" -Password $password -ConnectionBroker rdcb.contoso.com -ExportPath "c:\test-rdwa.pfx" Typing this into the shell will result in an error message claiming that a function, Get-Server cannot be found. Prior to using New-RDCertificate, you must import the RemoteDesktop Module with Import-Module RemoteDesktop. Step #2 - Observe out-of-box behavior The first time you visit the Deployment Properties dialog box by navigating to Server Manager - Remote Desktop Services - Collections and selecting "Edit Deployment Properties" from the "TASKS" dropdown list in the "COLLECTIONS" grouping, you will see the following screen: This window is misleading because the level field is listed as "Not Configured". If I understand correctly all three of the role services are using a self-signed certificate. For the RD Web Access role this can be verified by visiting the website: The certificate being used also appears in the Certificates MMC: Step #3 - Assign new certificate The Deployment Properties dialog box will allow me to select my existing certificate. The certificate must be placed within the local computers Certificates MMC in the "Personal" certificate store. The private key will need to be exportable, and you will need to provide the password. I temporarily exported my certificate to a file named temp.pfx with a password, and then imported it into Remote Desktop Services from there. Once this is done the GUI will indicate that it is ready to accept the new configuration. Once I click the "Apply" button, the GUI indicates success. This can be verified by visiting the RD Web Access web site a second time. There is no certificate error. Step #4 - The GUI fails to maintain its state If the GUI is closed and reopened, all of these settings appear to be lost. Actually, the certificate I configured is still being used. I am able to continue accessing the RD Web Access site without any certificate errors. Oddly, if I use the "Create new certificate..." button to generate a self-signed certificate this window will update to an "Untrusted" level. This setting will then be maintained through the opening and closing of the Deployment Properties dialog box. Is there anything I can do to have my settings appear to stick? I feel like something is wrong when the GUI claims I haven't fully configured certificates.

  • Is it reasonable to use my Time Machine backup to migrate to a new primary hard drive?

    I'm planning to upgrade my MacBook's harddrive. I already use Time Machine to back up the system to an external drive. Is it reasonable to use Time Machine to restore my system to the new laptop drive, once I install it? I mean, a restore like this really ought to be fine, right? That's the point of it, after all! I know imaging the drive would be more appropriate but this plan seems a whole lot easier (albeit probably slower), with practically no risk since my original drive won't be involved. A second question would then be, are there any considerations to be made when doing a Time Machine restore?

  • Are Plesk server backups useful?

    I'm working for a startup now, and I'm the programmer. Because of our small team size, I'm also handling the server management for now (until we get a dedicated server administrator.) I've never used Plesk before, and the server we're using (a Media Temple Dedicated Virtual server) had it installed when I got here. One of my first jobs was to set up backups: Plesk was already running it's nightly server-wide backups. I created a small script to dump the web app, it's DBs and any assets, tar them, store them, and then copy them to another small server we have (to backup the backups.) But, we're constantly running into hard drive space issues because of the Plesk backups. And I'm wondering, are they useful? If I have the web app and all of it's assets, I could easily enough get another server up and running. Do we need to keep running Plesk's backups? Thoughts?

  • How do I set permissions structure for multiple users editing multiple sites in /var/www on Ubuntu 9

    I'm setting up an Ubuntu server that will have 3 or 4 VirtualHosts that I want users to be able to work in (add new files, edit old files, etc.). I currently plan on storing the sites in /var/www but wouldn't be opposed to moving it. I know how to add new users, I know how to add new groups. I'm unsure of the best way to handle users being only able to edit some sites. I read over the answers here in this question, so I was thinking I could setup a group and add users to that group, but then they'd all have essentially the same permissions. Am I just going to have to assign each user specific permissions? Or is there a better way of handling this? Added: I should also note, that I'll have each user login in via SSH/sFTP. The users would never need to do anything else on the server.

    I am trying to see if OpenAFS fits my needs as a distributed filesystem and is a bit stuck. There are docs but they're all quite hard to understand, so asking for some expert advice here. My questions: which version to install? I need windows client support so I need 1.5 - right? But it is not stable.. Or is it? And don't see any pre-built rpms for it, so compiling from sources? tried to compile and it worked but it created a non-"mp" kernel module while my kernel needs an mp one - how to workaround that? do I really need a new fresh partition to start with or I can re-use an existing one and just make it available via afp? any nice HOWTOs around?
